  1. Rode one of the bikes last week and found time to hit the range also - win, win. Having a great stretch of weather here in south KC, not a cloud and 60’s - 70’s. Still busy with the the odds and ends of moving, in the process of shoveling 4 tons of decorative rock. Keeps a body young ya know — (hint hint Mr. ‘Heel)

  2. Scanning yahoo "news"... an ad Stunning Apartments in Arivaca for Retirees"....sure they do! lol gonna sand and put one more coat of poly on these chairs. They need one more... a finish coat. caught a few fish for dinner. Seems the military was playing today. Fly bys from an A-10 at tree top.... and I mean tree top. A Huey thumped by... then a C-120/130 blew oven at the top of the hills [the A-10 was much lower]. A-10's are cool.

  3. Yes Grissom Air Reserve Base is still open. The A10's are now in Terre Haute but fly to Grissom often, the KC-135 Stratotankers flown by the 434th Air Refueling Wing call Grissom home. The Air Museum at Grissom host on of my favorite car shows, "The Warbird Cruise-In". The show cars are parked under the wings of the aircraft with the A10's visiting and flying low and slow (pilot clearly visible through the canopy) overhead enjoying the view of the vehicles. Seemingly in appreciation of us as much as we are of them. The bases namesake: Lt. Col. Virgil Grissom was a native Hoosier and one of America's original seven astronauts. He was born on April 3, 1926, in Mitchell, Ind. After graduating from high school, he joined the Army Air Corps in 1944. After completing his initial military service, he enrolled at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind. He graduated in 1950 with a degree in mechanical engineering and reenlisted in the Air Force. He received his commission as a second lieutenant in 1951 and upon completion of pilot training, was sent to Korea where he flew 100 combat missions and won the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal. Subsequent assignments included duty as an instructor and test pilot at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif. In 1959, Colonel Grissom was chosen for America's space program and became one of the original seven astronauts. The exploits of Colonel Grissom and his fellow astronauts were chronicled in the book and movie, "The Right Stuff." He flew the second U.S. manned spacecraft, the Liberty Bell, on July 22, 1961. Two years later he teamed with Navy Commander John Young to fly America's first three orbit missions in the Gemini 3 space capsule. During that flight, he became the first man to maneuver a vehicle in space. Colonel Grissom was to have the honor of being the first flight commander for the Apollo space program. It was the Apollo program that eventually landed a man on the moon. However, he died January 27, 1967, at Cape Kennedy, Fla., along with two fellow astronauts when they were trapped in their burning Apollo spacecraft. It was engulfed in a flash fire as they were testing the craft on its launching pad. On May 12, 1968, Bunker Hill AFB was renamed in his honor. When the base became a reserve facility in 1994, the name was changed to Grissom Air Reserve Base. The base was rededicated in his honor on Sept. 30, 2011, during a special ceremony held in the newly named Gus Grissom Hall. A special plaque was also installed on the base parade grounds to commemorate the day.

  4. was a nice peaceful trip to the lake. Gotten too shallow for the fancy bass boats to launch. Folks with oars rule the lake. Got a little chuckle.... One couple, on a kayak, asked if "we" were on tour/// Huh? ZZTop. Then, I spent 1/2 hour chatting with a BordePratrol agent at the ramp. When I saw a uniform walking toward me, I thought I was gonna need to dig my fishing license out. Nah.. just a BP.. Nice convo. We talked politics of the border and "the wall" and the cartels. .............Actually, it was his Friday and he was looking for a place to take his boy fishing. I think he was trying to hide and cruise out his Friday w/o getting involved in anything too exciting. --------------------------------------------- Decorative rock... what a pita. Generally speaking... If it is bigger than pea gravel, shovels don't work on it.

  5. There's a couple of posts above yours with a bike in it. Or, with snow and winter coming, we could talk about snowmobiles! Have fun shooting, I have a gun I haven't shot yet, and need to.

Found a friend with a shooting range so tomorrow I'll visit with my new Extar EP-9 with red dot. Needs to be sighted in. LF will be taking the Jakester to the spa for a trim and bath while I'm popping caps. That's about all the news from the slow lane............

  7. Even if it's wrong it's goin down! Ever have one of those soul searching days? Got some re-masters in today and I'm just gonna unzip 'em and GO! GONG! Never get enough of them. They just do it and it always sorts. Angel's Egg was released in 1973 and their 4th. Cracked? Yuuuuup, but great just the same! On December 15th, 1988 Keith Richards and the X-pensive Winos took to the stage at the Hollywood Palladium and killed it. The new remaster? He STILL killed it but it just cooks. By the time you hit the D side of the albums he's jammin and you'll be right there with him. Keef's Keef and he's never gonna change. Got that funk goin on all thru the albums. Some good stuff fo sure! 😎 Their first album in 6 years and man WHAT an album. A tribute to Malcom his brother Angus said. The Aussie misfits re-united and put together a masterpiece tribute album. Brian Johnson's back on the vocals, Cliff Williams on the bass and drummer Phil Redd is even back! Their first release since Malcom's death is pretty darn amazing. If ya liked their other 16 albums you're gonna love this one. Clean, crisp and tight everywhere. A foot stomper and sweet groove like only they can! The world-wide hype? They come out on tour I'm gonna soooo be there! Ya better jump!

  9. Disappointed in your lack of true ocd. Plus, you charge too much for your time, lol. Been having French Market coffee with chicory lately for a change. Sometimes I just want that dark unique cup. Going back to Honduran afterwards most likely.

  10. I purchased a Node2i at Magnolia/Best Buy back in January of this year. At some point it started generating a lot of static. Searching on line I found some clock settings that needed to be turned off but I still had some misc static. This static went away when I bypassed my external DAC and went RCA outs to my Integrated. I also took tried my CD player thru my external Dac and found no static issues. I then found that a factory reset eliminated the static and I could use the coaxial cable to my external DAC but that only lasted a few hours and the static was back. I repeated this several times to no avail. I put an email out to Bluesound and they responded but wanted logs etc and all this diagnostic info. Frustrated I went to Magnolia and 'no questions asked' they ordered me a replacement. Picked it up today and the new Node 2i played thru my coaxial cable to my external DAC sounds fantastic with ZERO hint of any static. So many people are critical on this forum of so many things but I was very impressed how quickly Magnolia/Best Buy solved my streamer problem . Kudos to Magnolia - I would definitely buy audio gear from them again.

  11. A-10s just look mean. I'm directly under a flight pattern of two Warthogs, they pass over probably 4-6 times a year. They seem low and slow. Not sure where they're going, or coming from, is Grissom AFB still open? The cat almost saved that hi-side. Looks like he hit his head, hope he was ok. Alex Marquez had a hi-side much worse than that last Saturday in Valencia Spain. He raced Sunday, but wasn't competitive.

  13. I thought that they look good too. Not sure who made the cabinets or what size they are. For the money, they might be worth it, even for garage service.

  15. My OCD kicked in... I ended up putting a second coat of finish... poly spar varnish on these kitchen chairs. If I had wanted to make them good I would have sanded and tacked,... the first coat was still a wee tacky to sand and I don't have tack cloth... . Wife was looking at what they might cost [vs my time refinishing the "free" chairs].... at the high end $215ea and closer to reality, $115each. Hardly worth my spare time. They do look better, even with the "distressed" finish. I love that euphemism. Nice weather to do it outside. Didn't get much working time before the poly gummed up. 85` and no humidity the other day, box came down [damn cats] that had packing peanuts in it. The peanuts got loose and static stuck them to the cats that was mildly entertaining

  21. From the ad: "Used Mid Century speakers for sale. Each cabinet is in great shape with very little wear overall. Each has a Electro Voice Wolverine LS-12 running full range, direct wired. Sound nice, but could also be a great project as cabinets have plenty of room and are solid. Local pickup only." The cabinets look like a good start for some nice speakers.

  23. A wall of sound is fine as long as you don’t care about finesse detail imaging soundstage accuracy spatial cues Some music actually contains these things and its enjoyable to experience them. But some just want loud and bold. Whatever blows up your skirt I suppose. Shakey

  25. The aforementioned price you are referring to included delivery. For you David, the come and get it price is $350 As-Is. Testing is available here. Anything else would be an upcharge though as my time is not free. If $350 for a single Forte II is still too steep then I suppose you could just wait for Santa Clause. Ho Ho Ho.

  26. I have the the old K-55-V divers with the push pin connectors in my 1978 Klipschorns. / great driver , you can always install new diaphragms if they are tired --- Can you replace a K-55-V with a K-55-M on an AA crossover? ---yes Will the more modern K-55-M sound better? ---yes What’s the difference between the two? the K55M has the same sound as the dual phase plug k55V -

  28. As others smarter than me have opined ^^^ "yes" the K-55M is a drop-in replacement for the V. A few years ago my buddy @mustang guy dropped a pair in his La Scala's. We A/B'd them against each other with pink noise. They sounded different as in one was slightly higher pitched than the other one, I can't remember which was higher. Not better or worse, just slightly different. After both M's were installed I couldn't hear any difference in simple listening tests. Both sounded good. There is a dip in the frequency response between 4500 Hz and 6000 Hz on the V. The M eliminates this dip. In real life you can't hear any difference in playing music with the dip but my buddy wanted to plug the hole and that's why he bought the M's. He felt better that he had a mid-driver which was technically better.

  31. You can but I would not advise doing so. K-55-M has trouble replacing a diaphragm, K-55-V does not. Soldered lug K-55-M not so on K-55-V but no resultant improvement of sound like there is with the K-55-V soldered lug. K-55-M has an annoying habit of having the plastic back side become a little loose which will cause a buzz you will catch grief over when trying to figure out what is wrong and the K-55-V does not. I have given away or sold real cheap the K-55-M's I had because they are not as good for various reasons mentioned. When I was fixing up La Scalas I used parts just as though I were going to keep them for myself so the K-55-M's went bye bye. One other thing here. Talking with Bob Crite's son one day about new diaphragms. I had a set of K-55-V's that ohmed right but did not sound right. Apparently they have run across this too and the only cure is new diaphragms. Now I am a cheapskate and the idea I would have to spend half of the cost of new drivers to just replace diaphragms bothered me but I went ahead and did it. Solved the problem just fine, saved money and good to go for another 30 years I guess. You have recapped those old toasted capacitors, right? Also look into putting a mid brace in there between the dog house and sides to kill the cabinet resonance.

  34. Heresy speakers replaced and planted on top of my LS since the evil cat was watching me the entire time! So I pop in and laff getting caught up in here. Sounds like someone had too much sleep last nite! THEN MicroMara throws out some "Yes." Happened to remember I just got the 50th Anniversary "Live" tour box of 4 lp's. THEN I had to remember where it was. Piles everywhere so have to get that shelf up this week. Sounds great and they pulled off a lil trick on the lp's. Should be a great listen! Crafty right? Down side is now there are only 7 of 8 sides to play? Guess they don't have enough music to put on another side. hahaha! It does have a coolness factor though. Cya when I see ya! Sounds great so far though. Do miss those that have passed though!
