  1. I don't know how to kindly break this to you but never happen. Go look at the old veneer options available some years ago and look at today's. Klipsch has been bought out and is a profit vehicle for people who are not audiophiles. They are never going to support old speakers and someone had to recruit JEM and Dean to even get crossovers back in but not directly supported or sold by Klipsch. Dean, if I am reading right, had to fund parts from Universal Transformer from his own pocket. The large deep pockets of Klipsch were not available for this if, once again, I am reading what was said rightly. I will give you an example. The old drones from the Fortes were cloth surround. Klipsch did in time offer a compatible part but it had a rubber surround. You want to restore your old Forte you can't to this day as far as I know get a cloth surround drone. It is so bad I once sold a set of Fortes to a guy. He told me to keep the speaker and send him the drones only. A Palladium owner trying to find parts with no luck was posting on the forum a short time ago. The highest end speaker Klipsch sold at the time and no current support parts. Old speaker parts are only important to we old speaker owners and the bean counters at Klipsch are not going to sink time money and inventory into items of no interest to them compared to selling new sets of speakers. DIY Audio is run by and started by audio hobbyists some of whom have gone on to create the commercial offerings you see there at times.

  3. Count me in as another who has no idea where I fit here anymore. I have been a VERY occasional visitor over the last couple of years, but a 20 year member with a lot of road traveled, making contacts with forum members I have had relationships with over the years to do "The Lifetime Restoration" on my four pairs of Klipsch cabs. I basically did all four as Crites woofers, MAHL tweeters, A55G and Dean's high end parted networks. I spent the last two years building them out/restoring the cabs, all basically "drop in" replacement - sticking with the PWK "geometry and schematic" with aftermarket replacement parts. I did it because I could easily source the parts, many report good results from them, and I could do the work myself, allowing for the restoration of the cabs such that I could enjoy them for another 50 years as they have to date. I also spent extensive time actually sampling those parts. And now I don't know if I can go any further - or if point of fact I went too far already. I also don't know what the rules exactly are. As I told Dean in a conversation - "This all looks like 'The Obscenity Standard' " where one (the deciders/moderators) "know it when they see it". And as one who has been here for 20+ years but not much recently I have to wonder if I'm even ALLOWED here. I don't have anymore "stock"/all Klipsch parted speakers anymore albeit redone with drop-in replacement parts. But as one who rally WANTS to know (because I really don't want to grind gears here trying to find out) I'm just trying - from the POV of one who just finished both systems in terms of speaker resoraion and electronics updating, thought I would report the builds - to know whether I should or if it's acceptable. It seems not. So now I'm thinking I better not, because I have NO IDEA what the rules are other than that the forum is apparently shunning anything "not Klipsch" (there own it and is their right). Even if it means that I "should show myself the door" I DO think those remaining deserve to have a "standard of practices" around here rather than what seems to be "The Obscenity Standard" where that definition is in the eyes of the beholding moderator. Made less blurry, it becomes SOMEWHAT easier to apply that standard (albeit understood that it will still have issues). Just trying to set my compass/GPS here.....

  4. I'm new here. I joined when I decided to resurrect a pair of H700 Heresies that I rescued from a fire ravaged house, 16 years ago and had been sitting in my carriage house, collecting dust. I'm a 52 year-old polymath and autodidact; an inner city dwelling working class slob; a Joe Blow master carpenter, specializing in very high end residential remodeling, whose income just barely places him in the middle class; a grad school dropout, just 8 hours shy of his Masters. I have a strong appreciation of things that are hand made and built to last; I have Grand Cru tastes, but a Bota Box budget. I am probably not Klipsch's target demographic. When I decided to rebuild my H700's, I wasn't sure that I wanted to spend a lot of money; I literally chose between throwing them in the trash or fixing them up. I dove into the archives and read everything I could about Heresy speakers, the original networks and updates through the years. There is a treasure trove of information here and I am incredibly grateful for that. However, reading the comments on the Heresy H700, H1-3 iterations, it became clear that my initial impressions of my ratty and ancient, 51 year-old speakers weren't far off the mark, and became concerned that even after bringing them back up to spec on a budget, I might still be dissatisfied. In doing research, I couldn't help but notice the infectious enthusiasm for the experiments and modifications to early versions of the Heresies to bring them up to contemporary listening standards, excitement that has all but evaporated in the past year. As such, I followed the threads, modified my H700's to the "Super Heresy" spec and could not be more impressed or satisfied. Yeah, I noticed the plugs for the "authorized vendors" when I first posted my project, but brushed it off. Coming from the motorcycle industry and being a lifelong BMW Motorrad fan, I'm well accustomed to the chorus of "stock is best" and assumed that was what it was. However, as I've been on the site close to a month, it's looking increasingly more like outright shilling, a dogged and rigid orthodoxy and even a decent amount of overly-creepy fan-boyism, from what I assume are middle-aged men. It. Is. Weird. What I'm getting from the new and improved forum vibe and this thread in particular, is that I am not welcome here. It is insisting is that I must leave my components stock, use only official parts and if I'm not satisfied, I am wrong, because I'm not using my components correctly and am required to shell out between $5000-$6500 to get products that perform to my expectations. That's a fine how to do.

  5. I found myself thinking about all this stuff you said and then reflecting on what brought me to this forum to begin with. I had bought two sets of La Scalas and they sounded different. So I go online to try and find out why and ran across this forum. Why did I come here to begin with? To find out how to fix my old Klipsch speakers. Many of us would never have participated in this forum if it was a cheer leading club for unadultrated pure Klipsch. I came here for answers first and foremost. I happen to Like Klipsch more then any other commercially produced speaker and have proven that by the hundreds of sets of Klipsch gear I have sought out and fixed and moved on. I don't look for any other type to work on except Altec A-7's and that has been but a handful. Along the way I know I have sold new systems for Klipsch because I exposed many to Klipsch and some went on to buy new.

  6. @MMurg Did you ever pm a moderator to ask clarification of why the thread was deleted? Speculation is a hoot, but perhaps something from the [dead] horse's mouth would be beneficial. Just curious. PS: loved the Belle mod.

  8. I find myself fortunate to have joined this forum years ago. The Klipsch crossovers fascinated me, and I really wanted to learn what the capacitors, inductors, and autoformers did in a circuit. It was through modifying, measuring, and listening that I was able to learn. I will always be grateful for those types of discussions, and to all those that contributed to them.

  9. I have been at this game long enough to consider myself "informed". I understand that an amplifier's only job is to "amplify" the incoming signal. That I choose to believe that components (and how they are implemented in the circuit), chassis design and implementation, connecting wires, etc. all have an impact on the resulting sound quality, does not make me "uninformed". That I don't believe two amplifiers with the same power output can't sound different, doesn't make me "uninformed". So while my opinion may not be "worthwhile" to you and others in this forum, it's still my opinion and is only expressed as such. I don't offer it as some sort of standard. OTOH, some would say that if I believe what my ears tell me, I have no merit because that conflicts with measurements. I'm not going to tell you that you must hear things the way I do or you are an idiot. But that's the way some would treat myself and others that don't believe amp = amp. Music is about emotion and how you feel when your favorite song moves you. I can enjoy music with most any stereo system, but there are some products that bring me closer to that emotional state than others. I don't need measurements to tell me that.

  12. it looks like I've found an upgrade for my AVR, A mid level Marantz 1605 that will have adequate power for my surround system and with a separate amp, more than enough power for my Heresies (even as it is, I suspect)

  13. This post is out of character for you. Why are you driving up paranoia? Trey only said it had been discussed. When we become a bigger pain then any benefit we are contributing, sure, why bother with it, can you blame them? If they were going to disappear the place they wouldn’t have bothered spending three days to rebuild the server two weeks ago (thanks @Chad). Why suffocate them with all of this? Give them some room to breathe and navigate.

  14. The internet 'MAGNIFIES' the detritus that has always existed in most of modern humanity and in fact, it has accelerated such behavior with it's ability to viralize such content. nothing will change, because people won't change. Web3 is coming which will further incentivize and monetize behaviors that can garner the scale and crowd funding properties of abhorrent behaviors. It is very like being brain washed and hypnotized in that personalities that would normally be unwilling to act in such manners, begin to partake in behaviors that have become 'Normalized'... no matter how unhealthy that behavior is. The adverse is unable to garner the same velocity of adoption because it appears 'standard' and 'normal'.

  17. I’ve always considered amps as generic tools to power my speakers , and to be honest, unless I’m listening to a noisy amp , I’d be hard pressed to discern differences, certainly not significant differences . Who knows what others may hear though , maybe it’s like a wise old forum member once said , it’s ” The difference you think you hear “ ,maybe it doesn’t really matter, it’s really the perception of better sound , isn’t it ? If people claim to hear a difference I believe them.🤓

  18. I would say so ... Happy Monday... it is Monday, isn't it? I'm beginning to think we have a killing field for rodents...6 rats in 8 days... and they are lucky I bring our cats in at night. Scratch another rat. Frank was out for about 15 min before he got one. I think the rodents at the neighbor's, now empty, house are migrating.... There were dogs on the property... Our cats couldn't provide rodent control in such a hostile atmosphere. I'm looking at the bottom of my bottle of Woodford Reserve. Not like I hit it hard. I opened this bottle on Christmas. I like it ... but, don't really drink. I'll have a sip or two... and enjoy the flavor. Really!

  24. Post your laugh of the day here. Here is mine. A pensioner drove his brand new BMW to 100 mph, looking in his rear view mirror, he saw a police car behind him. He floored it to 140 , then 150, ... then 155, ... Suddenly he thought, "I'm too old for this nonsense !" So he pulled over to the side of the road and waited for the police car to catch up with him. The officer walked up to him, looked at his watch and said, "Sir, my shift ends in ten minutes. Today is Friday and I'm taking off for the weekend with my family. If you can give me a good reason that I've never heard before, why you were speeding... I'll let you go." The Man looked very seriously at the police man, and replied :- "Years ago, my wife ran off with a policeman, I thought you were bringing her back." !!! The Cop left saying, " Have a good day, Sir "...

  25. In the beginning.... The dreamers waxed excitedly about building global communities, democratization of everything, and opening up the world to all voices. And then hucksters and pirates moved in to use it for mass behavior modification and training the population to consume more. Then the reality of what "community" actually means set in, and the new owners didn't like it at all. Real "communities" are not like Disney fantasy villages, they are far more messy. There are lots of kinds and styles of interaction and relationships - good and bad. There are lots of noisy disagreements, bar stool conversations, ideological bantering, and too many variables to control. The "town square" no longer fit neatly into establishment values. Enter the various "clamp downs" "cram downs" "cancellations" and my favorite euphemism - "de-platforming." All ownership eyes turned to the idea of Disneyfication of every property and every messy town square. Consider what YouTube has become from what it once was. Is the Internet worth saving just so people can shop in their PJ's at 3:00 a.m., and hear "news of the establishment pied-pipers?" Or should it just die off like what is happening to broadcast TV?

  28. Yep. That was a weird time and it was the lowest common denominator that closed down those important discussions. We ALL were learning new things and tried to deal with it as a community...Others, not so much. Imo, that may be the scapegoat, but there appears to be marketing decisions as well as the forum has outgrown its usefulness in that regard. Imo, Carl was a major contributor in the lounge and seemed like a nice guy, but he didn't need to be a moderator.

  29. Didn't know about new server so thanks. Don't know what others want, but like the place when helping newbies with their new or older Klipsch as best can do. Thankfully there are members here that know more than me they can turn to. If Klipsch support can do that, and other sites cool. Haven't a doubt in my mind we promote sales and Klipsch with goodwill. No point in a reply, as we have been here long enough to know each other's opinion, I trust. I've said likely way too much already. Good fortune Klipsch!

  34. There is an NAD 1600/2600 combo available in my neighborhood at a reasonable price, however in reviewing the back panel of my AVR, I've realized that I'll need to upgrade that first, to a model with pre outs so I don't have to futz with two set of controls every time I want to change the volume. So, first things first...

  36. Klipsch has already come out and said this place is on the chopping block and that they don't care who's here or who leaves. My guess is that it could disappear at any moment so if there's info, pics, charts or part numbers etc you may need in the future search them out now and save them for they might not be here tomorrow. Get contact info from people you want to stay in touch with or find people on other forums I really believe it's just a matter of time.
