  4. I normally make some roast duck for Christmas dinner. We had cracked open a ham on Christmas Eve so I didn’t end up making the duck until yesterday. Brined in a pineapple-orange juice and fresh Thyme mixture and then steamed before a high temp sear in a cast iron skillet in the oven. Shallots and Chard were then cooked in a balsamic glaze made from the pan drippings.

  5. ... when I was flying electric R/C helicopters, that was a real problem. The batteries we used were a single cell, capable of discharging 10A @4v and were the size of a book of matches. And YES they would light up if you shorted them. Multi-cell packs were supposed to be stored in ammo cans. see lithium polymer [li-po] batteries

  8. Blindman, Is your handle true? If not there must be a story behind it! If it is true, you are very resourceful! Why don't you plan on shipping it in late February or early March. Please move this to email craig@nosvalves.com I do not want to get in trouble with Klipsch here. They may not mind as I'm not a competitor. I'm not sure who to contact about the can and can't for me. I used to be very much a preferred vendor around here. I have that No BS Paul Klipsch attitude LOL!! PS folks my Knee has been spectacular! It's just amazing what a good Surgeon can do!!

  11. I always thought having cassettes and CDs in my car was a nuisance and a distraction but... (I came across this on some social media network...) Muhammad Ali had a record player that played 45 rpm records built into his automobile. In the 60s, Norelco "Auto Mignon" only held one 45 rpm record at a time, for 4½ minutes of play, potentially distracting the driver with the need for multiple record changes. Consumer Reports claims the Norelco players were able to keep the needle on the record while driving and that the needle performance was "unaffected by rough roads, car sway, and sharp braking." However, "a steady stylus had its price, wearing down the records from the high pressure required to keep it in place. And the RCA unit's turntable ran fast, speeding up records," according to CR. In addition, there was nowhere to put the vinyl since the Norelco didn't store any records. Car record players soon made way for the eight-track tape deck. In September 1965, the Ford Motor Company introduced factory-installed and dealer-installed eight-track tape players as an option on three of its 1966 models (the sporty Mustang, luxurious Thunderbird, and high-end Lincoln), and RCA Victor introduced 175 Stereo-8 Cartridges from its RCA Victor and RCA Camden labels of recording artists catalogs.

  12. Remember when I mentioned a record I was looking for in the collection Well I couldn’t find it and that made me mad as hell So I purchased Richard Wright - Wet Dreams (The new Steve Wilson mix) And at the same time I purchased an obscure release that I’m sure no one here has heard of - By the way it was released only on cassette and again on vinyl a few years ago, and when I saw it I just had to have it. So I will keep it a secret for now and keep you in suspense until it arrives

  14. About 4 years ago, @Blackbird gifted me a pair of Heresy speakers in pretty darned good condition. I listened to them often at work and a bit at home. @MookieStl examined them and told me they were "1.5" editions. I had to pay shipping from Florida to Missouri, but they were well worth that and even had the proper top and bottom shipping styrofoam to help them make a safe trip. I agreed at the time to: Pay shipping to receive them. Give them a good home where they would be enjoyed. Keep the shipping materials. Offer them up when I was done with them with the same deal applying going forward. No sales or gifts to anyone, they must be offered up here to the next recipient when you're done enjoying them. You must be willing to accept the above terms and conditions. There is no time limit on "done". Just give them a good home and listen to them. Ideally, you'll have them a while and pass the joy along someday. I will accept PMs starting today, and I will make the decision on January 5th as to who they go to. That person must provide a ship-to zip code (U.S. only, sorry) and be willing and ready to paypal the cost of the shipping on that day, providing that the amount isn't beyond your budget. If the amount is too much for you, they go to the next person I choose. This is not on a first-come first-served basis. Replies to this thread are not being considered, only PMs. On January 5th, I will announce here who gets them. Tell me what speakers you have now, and why you'd like to own a set of Heresys. Tell me why you should be the person that gets them next. Tell me you agree to the terms. My reputation here is solid; this is not a scam. The original thread is here:

  16. Since your listening level is on the low side, you are a perfect candidate for a 300B amp. Keep in mind, all are not created equal. I don’t think I’d go for a cheap SET amp. When it comes to low watt amps, the power supply and driver stage is crucial. More so than moderate to high powered tube amps. And this is the first place where corners are cut. Not trying to scare you away, just making you aware.

  17. there's 1 sure way to determine if you have a Klipsch Shorthorn Model S utility cabinet - an unfinished cabinet would have these dimensions .... Height 36 .75" , Width 24" , Front to corner 22" - a finished cabinet would be slightly larger ..... H-37" - W 25.5" - Front to corner 23.25"

  24. I thought the peakiness was from the parallel sides (doghouse to outer side walls) for the 10 or 11 inches. Then John Albright said the Peavey FH-1 cabinets had it too, but I've not read that anywhere else. Whatever, it never bothered me when I had La Scalas. I may end up with some again one day. If I do I will keep them, as I've missed them as soon as I let them go.

  36. A bookcase is also a good thing to have on the back wall of your listening room, although it works as a diffuser as much as an absorber. Mine's 6' tall by 4' wide, which will have a definite effect. Actually, since my system's evolved as far as I want to take it, the next step is room treatment, but rather than install sound absorbing panels at random locations, I'm considering bringing in a consultant. However, as you put the idea, it makes sense. It won't get done for a while, though, since the Must Get Done list is still too long.

  38. I just listened to that song on Tidal, on fiberglass La Scala splits. All original except the tweeters are DaveA’s and the crossovers have been updated with JEM caps. I don’t hear any resonance. I will say, I don’t think that is a very good recording unless that was the effect they were going for. Sounds like a microphone effect. Dark, muffled dreamscape.

  39. Randy is full of misinformation. The top and bottom of the LS bass bin are adequately braced. It is only the large side panels that are an issue on the LS 1. Just like the 1/2” thick back panel on a Heresy 1, the side panels on an LS 1 will muddy the upper bass from its vibration if played at a louder volume. my LS cabs were stock thickness 3/4” and the braces provided a noticeable difference in clarity. Would I have gotten similar results from increasing the thickness of the sidewall? Perhaps, but the braces were a cheap and easy install compared to increasing the sidewall thickness.

  42. Hello, i have some questions about klipsch subwoofer RSW 10D. and that iz... are klipsch subwoofers same sounding like RF 82's? Coz my RF 82's sound good at bass only when the volume is between -3 to +6 Db. and above, but at the cost of all unwanted higher frequencies at ear piercing harshness as though from an ancient loudspeaker (most probably like the first one when it was invented). It does sound somewhat okay for ears at lower volumes (or at good times of our mind or the so called debatable/doubtful break-in time) but with little bass with much distortion when playing music DVD's (for movies there isnt any distortion). The performance of RF-82's prompted me to discard my plans to buy a klipsch subwoofer. Instead i was searching and visiting sites of Velodyne,REL,Paradigm etc.,(musical subwoofers). So if i buy one of 'em will it match RF 82's? or On the other hand if i buy RSW 10D,will it be a waste of money for low volume (peaceful) hearing? what could be the preferred room size for RF 82's? Does it sound good in BIG rooms? pretty confused... thanks everyone.

  44. hello, i hv a similar problem. i got a Yamaha amp. and the speaker impedance options from it are 6 or 8 (i prefer to use 8 ohms). As far as my front speakers are concerend, it can handle 8 ohm (RF 82's), but if i connect a subwoofer, does this impedance matters? Moreover, though i searched the specifications of Klipsch RSW-10D the impedance is not mentioned. so my question is does speaker impedance setting from amplifiers matters for Subwoofers also? suppose the input impedance & sensistivity of Subwoofer is 5 Ohms, then the sub gets damaged by the 8 ohms setting in the amp? Thank you.

  45. Now that i decided to try bi-wiring, i would like to know expert opinions from you. i am using 2x2.5 cable for my RF-82's (it was written on the cable roll). In the users manual of Klipsch speakers it is recommended to use 16 gauge AWG cables. Those cables are fattier in looks and it have big sized copper strands in it. Can anyone tell me 2x2.5 is 16 gauge (AWG)? My second question is about another set of cables i have, which is thinner in looks and have many thinner strands in it. is it ok to wire using these two different gauges? if so, the lighter gauge should go on where? i.e., to the HF or LF section of the speaker? My yammie has provisions for biwiring. Thanks.

  46. New Year Greetings! Hello everyone finally i own 2 RF82's along with a Yammie RX-V1500 (120W/RMS). I connected my RF's to the A section of the amp. and changed the speaker impedence to 8 Ohms, then i selected the front two speakers as LARGE & the cross overs set to 60Hz. my room size was selected MEDIUM. The result was that the LFE from those speakers was astounding & more than expected when played DVD's wth LF signals (i played Enigma,Eagles-H. Calif.). BUT when i tried to play Jacksons History, the Corrs, kylie, Guns n Roses, all higher frequencies and midrange felt harsh. Still i am workin on the auto setup with YPAO to remove this harshness. Does anyone know how to tame the highs & midrange? or is this a technical problem with Klipsch? Will this change when i ll have a full home theatre system which will channel the frequencies to seperate speakers? Moreover, i am worried coz i have seen the "made in china" on the back of RF 82's. This was confirmed by the p-o-o-r quality of outer wood finish which was loose and tend to tear off when touched on the edges. But anyhow i am impressed by the POWER of those 8" Cones. thanks.
