  2. dutch prince: https://www.atube-highfidelity.nl/nieuws/bernhard-van-oranje-kiest-voor-klipsch-mcintosh/ (translation) BERNHARD VAN ORANJE CHOOSES KLIPSCH AND MCINTOSH Alongside the Hifi Rose RS150B and high-end cabling from Audioquest THE BEGINNING A project for an installation like this doesn't come together in just a few days. The initial encounter dates back to March 2022 when Bernhard visited our old showroom on Argonweg in Almere to listen to the Klipsch Klipschorns. Why Klipsch? Well, during a trip to America, he had experienced the combination of Klipsch + McIntosh, and both the looks and sound had stayed with him. After a thorough listening session, the initial impression of the Klipschorns was positive. By that time, we had moved into our new showroom on Televisieweg, where we were the only ones in the Netherlands to have the Klipsch Jubilee's. Considering Bernhard's preferences and the dimensions of the room where the speakers were going to be placed, we couldn't recommend anything else but to give the Jubilee's a try. So, as the saying goes, it was done, and we continued with a listening session featuring the Jubilee's in our new showroom. The Jubilee's, in comparison to the Klipschorns, showcased remarkable versatility. While the Klipschorns excelled in genres like Diana Krall in a live concert or Jazz from Miles Davis and Mozart's Requiem, the Jubilee's, without any adjustments to the equipment or settings, could make Armin van Buuren and Martin Garrix sound like the best nightclub installation you've ever heard. They delivered power, bass, and dynamics you'd desire, yet maintained the softness and finesse of a hi-fi set, allowing you to enjoy high volumes without discomfort after just 2 minutes. Where the Klipschorns made a good impression, the Jubilee's were practically a no-brainer, and this set was nearly perfection in every sense of the word. After finalizing the order, we proudly and enthusiastically went to Amsterdam multiple times to install and fine-tune this set. We also collaborated with other parties extensively to seamlessly integrate the installation into the bar/wall unit where it now stands beautifully. THE SET To fill a space of approximately 8x12 with a ceiling about 6 meters high with grand and beautiful sound, there's arguably no speaker better suited than the Klipsch Jubilee. The flagship model of Klipsch leaves nothing to the imagination. Despite being beautifully integrated into a colossal bar by a furniture maker, they might seem somewhat manageable in size. However, don't be deceived by the dimensions of these powerhouses (DxWxH): 76,127,175 cm. The Klipsch Jubilee's, with their external active crossover, require at least 2 stereo power amplifiers to independently drive the mid/high and low frequencies of both speakers. When you think of iconic, reliable, and powerful, you usually think of only one brand... McIntosh. With the C53 serving as the preamplifier and the MC462 and MC312 as the power amplifiers, there is extreme control over the sound, even at very high volumes. The MC462, with 2x 450 watts, handles the low frequencies. As mentioned, these massive cabinets can produce an immense amount of pressure and low-end. To continuously do this for hours on end, no amplifier suits better than the MC462. Additionally, the MC312 is the amplifier for the mid/high frequencies with 2x 300 watts, more than sufficient for the highly efficient Klipsch drivers with the mega horn. In addition to musicality, the set had to be an eye-catcher. Despite the large space they occupy, you're immediately drawn to the cabinet with all the McIntosh equipment and their dancing VU meters upon entering. Equally impressive is the Hifi Rose RS150B. This streamer with a full-size touchscreen display uniquely and addictively displays the album art of the current music. For cabling, we looked at the top segment of Audioquest, from Robin Hood to Black Beauty, and also Monsoon and NRG. A set like this would not be complete without reliable and high-quality cabling. LIST OF EQUIPMENT The set consists of: Klipsch Jubilee McIntosh C53 McIntosh MC462 McIntosh MC312 Hifi Rose RS150B Audioquest Niagara 3000 Audioquest Robin Hood Audioquest Black Beauty Audioquest Monsoon THE FIRST SET OF KLIPSCH JUBILEE At the time of Bernhard's order, the Klipsch Jubilee had just been released. Not only were we the first to have this set ready for demonstration in the Netherlands, but we were also proud to deliver the first consumer set! To immortalize this, we captured it with a plaque and in style. In this way, the already extremely exclusive set gains an extra touch of personality and uniqueness.

  3. Started in on a Supertramp roll w/ @grasshopper over in CC&C so here we go on a roll. lol Crisis? What Crisis? is the fourth album by the English rock band Supertramp, released in 1975. It was recorded in Los Angeles and London – Supertramp's first album to have recording done in the US. Funny, now Hodgson, who had no vision for this album, said in the mid-80's it's his favorite lp. lol Supertramp is the debut album by the English rock band Supertramp, released in August 1970.[3] It was not released in the United States until late 1977, but available through importers and was usually carried in record stores that specialised in British imports. The 1977 issue reached No. 158 on the US Billboard 200.[4] Indelibly Stamped is the second album by the English rock band Supertramp, released in 1971. It marked a dramatic change in direction to a more straightforward rock sound, and by admission of the band's own liner notes, "Travelled" is the only song with any resemblance to their debut album. Like their debut, this album was a commercial failure upon release, but in later decades it went gold in France and Canada. The cover photograph features the tattooed torso and arms of a topless woman. This is the first Supertramp album issued in the U.S.; the cover was in colour (in 1971), but A&M pasted two gold stars over the nipples. The album was banned from a number of record stores in Australia, while others sold each copy inside a brown paper sleeve. No gold stars on this lp! How'd that happen? 😂 The rest is history but yea I've got a ton of 'em just too lazy to take the pics. lol Breakfast in America sounds absolutely fantastic right now! Just got up off my butt and tweeked out "Child of Visions." Ahhhhhhmazing song! Hit it and crank it up!

  5. Sad news indeed. Larry was one of those special people you are happy to have in your life. His intellect always left me in awe. Holder of a PhD and an MD, a government career in the Public Health Service, he was a passionate and knowledgeable fan of classical music, yet also liked folk music. A good example of his love for and proselytizing of the classics was when he went into Bethesda Naval Hospital for some surgery and the next concert we attended his surgeon joined us for the concert! His presence graced the finest of concert halls, but he'd also don chaps and cowboy gear for his annual journey to Custer/Battle of Big Horn reenactments. He was an ardent lover of history, and never was without a history book at his side. A truly knowledgeable lover of high end stereo equipment, I always learned something when we'd go to the Capitol Audiofest together. Indeed he was always happy to share his knowledge and had a gentle sense of fun and humor. Granted, he was a bit quirky. Sometimes it was like we had an alien in our presence because somethings he just didn't get, but he knew that (well not all the time) and allowed for it. He had a full life, an interesting life, and an intellectual life, and what more could one ask for. Sleep well Larry.

  6. I have inherited a pair of Klipschorn speakers from my grandfather. They need to get cleaned up but seem to be in relatively good condition. Using this forum, I figured out that they are 1966 with oiled ash cabinet. I will probably keep them but would like to figure out value for insurance. The listings I have found have a huge price range. What affects value? Thanks, any other information you could offer would be greatly appreciated! klipschorn label 1.heic

  8. Sad news, indeed. Larry was my go to guy when I had questions on which recordings to get for classical music. He was my car pool buddy to and from the airport for quite a few Indy pilgrimages. My "Classical Music" collection grew quite large over the years due to Larry's Pilgrimage sessions and posts on Klipsch forums. Due to some unfortunate circumstances, I had to cancel my trip to one Larry's forum parties in which also missed out on meeting Gary and Thebes. I will have to fire up my recording of Holst's "The Planets" tonight which I listened to while the others were listening to it live. Rest in peace, my friend. JJ

  9. The exponential horns in these early models are more detailed sounding to me, same with the Chorus 1 vs II when sitting in the sweet spot. The Tractrix horns are more "open" and "airy" sounding but lack that inner detail, they do seem to have a wider sweet spot but it comes at a cost.

  12. Holy Cow Bat Man!!!! .... what was I thinking. Please blame it on my head and not my heart. I totally failed at my mandatory post-purchase photo-sharing duties!!! 🙂 As my wife keeps telling me....you have to do better!!! Some explainers: - My man cave/study/hide-a-way is as square as you get (including size!). About 15' x 15. Ceilings are about 9'. Furnishings are a bit of this and that, and not much of either. The room is having a major identity crisis. I wanted to get the important things first. - The set up is: Netgear Nighthawk Router/Tidal Streaming --- (RJ 45 Cat5e) --- > NAD CS 1 --- (Tosk link) --> RME-ADI2 FS DAC/Pre --- (RCA)--- > Alan Eaton 2 wpc SET amp --- (Mogami cable) --- > Heresy's IV - The REM-ADI2 Dac is lower right. The yellow lights are continuous visual frequencies. - The NAD C1 DSD end point is at lower left - small blue light. The NAD unit supports Tidal...which is the main reason I bought it. Plus the price was about $350.00 - Upper shelf is the Alan Eaton SET 45 amp. About 2 wpc. I was skeptical, but with Heresy’s, if I turn the knobs all the way, it is equivalent of about a forty wpc solid state amp. That is a rough estimate based on having owned a lower wattage SS amp years ago. Anyway, it gets plenty loud that I would never turn it all the way up. The Heresy IV are in Walnut with the "lamb’s wool" grills. They are everything I had hoped for, and more. I was happily surprised to find the stands came with them. Right now, I have no reason to change them. I'll see what the room is going to look like with some furniture and a little moving around. Some say taller stands are better. That will come later. You all did me a huge favor getting me over the hump. Money is always a factor, at least with the people I know. No one wants to make a high-dollar mistake. After looking at all the comparable speakers (in the Heresy price range), I kept coming back to them. At that price, it is mostly bookshelf speakers, and the tower type (i.e. Focal) which seem to me are the same bookshelf speakers with a longer to the floor cabinet. I saw a lot of speakers with full-range drivers (sometimes just one). Again, kept coming back to Heresy IV's. I had looked around my area up to about a 4-hour drive time for a pre-owned set but had no luck at all. Did that for about 6 months. I knew I was getting close. Then I put my post out there and you all responded. That did it. Pulling the trigger was not hard to do then. I dialed the number, order them up…and am glad I did. No regrets!

  14. I haven't been on here much in awhile. I haven't been using these much and that's not fair to them. These are in great shape. One grill has one scar, that's about it. They sound great. The original spikes and covers have been removed, but I have replaced them with threaded inserts and plastic feet. I will include adjustable feet for the front for tilting. I'm asking $1200 for the pair.

  15. I would like to use Dave's Eliptrac 400 on my Khorns as a 2 way with either the Faital pro HF200 16 ohm version vs the B&C DE85TN. Seeing if anyone has had the chance to a/b these and what they thought. I know it would all be personal preference, does anyone know which takes less equing as that is seems to be one of the issues. Thanks Duder

  16. Thought I'd drop a quick message to the group on the solution to my tweeter problem. The replacement K-105 tweeter arrived this morning. The first thing I did was put a meter across the terminals, read 3.3 ohms, good enough for me! Took my time, so it was installed in about 5 mins and playing a couple of mins latter. It sounds perfect, just like the one it replaced. I was surprised how replacing 1 tweeter put the whole system back in shape. I returned all the system settings back to where they were before discovering the damaged tweeter and it sounds as good if not better. I am thinking I might check out the drivers of the SF-1s I'm using for rear speakers. It never ends!!! Thanks to all who helped and guided me towards the best solution.

Taking me for a bit of a ride whereas the other 3 didn't. Imma nosin on 'em but have some things to get done outside. I'll slip back . Tell us more about what you're really trying to accomplish and how you're going to do it. I want some meat and taters on ya! Again, welcome to the forum. BTW, a roll of toilet paper is cheaper than tissues. 😂

  20. A quick swap back and forth is useful for sure and I do that but what I also like to do is listen to a set for several hours, days even and then swap them out. Only after really settling in with a set do you really catch what they have to offer, good or bad. Some times I'm more surprised when I swap out my mains for new speakers, listen for several days then swap back to my mains then I will be at the initial swap.

  21. I don't believe there is any other way, and it has to be right then. IMHO, what is unfair is not knowing how fresh the caps and such are. Another thing is that each pair needs to be 'dialed in' to sound its best, even using the same brand and even the same name. Ex: Trying to AB Forte to Forte II needs some adjustments to make each sound their best. A lot of people's mouths can't be trusted. None of our ears can't be trusted.

  24. Same guy posted as being from Des Moines last week and the location associated with the ad would have been about 20 minutes from me. Several years ago, I had a work colleague who bragged to me about how he had sold his one year old Mercedes G-Wagon to some Saudi prince for $20K more than he had paid for it new. I tried to gently tell him it was a scam, but he assured me he knew what he was doing. He didn't, and lost a car worth more than $100K. Never wanted to talk about it afterward.

It's fun throwin 'em down today for a lil change of pace. Been years since I've heard a lot of them. Now WHERE is that ELP Brain salad? Everything BUT that. I did all 4 stops in 71 at the old Cleveland Public auditorium on their Tarkus tour. After the response to the initial show we had them back for 3 nights in a row in the spring.. Then in 74 they did the World Series of Rock at the old Cleveland stadium. That's the one that just about killed me. That gong... lolol The hunt begins! It's here somewhere! 😂

What can be expected for the three types of crossovers Bronze, silver and gold. What difference do the Capacitor's inductors do for each, What sort of improvement can one expect for these crossovers. Also the new tweeters, Woofers etc.

  36. Also consider that even if changing the wire impacts speaker performance, the improvements to sound from better room acoustics may be much greater than any losses from longer wire. I have often read that the listening environment is the most overlooked place where people can improve their system. If changing the orientation of your speakers creates an immediate, noticeable improvement, I would bet that the benefits will outweigh any deterioration due to cable length. Good Luck!

Man this place is getting touchy since I came back. What happened? Not accepting it's the change in policy concerning changing speaker components. C'mon we're supposed to be sharing something we enjoy and not seeing a lot of enjoyment here.

  41. 3015 LF is an 8 ohm driver, DCR is 5.5 ohms. A quick look at the specs shows, the 3015 is not a good match for your Cornwall cabs. With no labeling, I am suspect also. The Eminence 15c is very close to the original K-33 and is a suitable replacement. I would consider replacing the woofer with an Eminence 15c or one from Bob Crites. Again I doubt the crossover is the issue, the circuit is fairly simple. If you can post a pic of the crossover, might be able to spot a flaw. HB

  43. So true... Where is the mold to the K-601? Can that be used?I don't like the more pinched sound or shrunken sound field of the K-700. Presumably you want the more expansive sound of a full-fledged Cornwall, not a sort of hybrid Heresy.

  44. Hello. I've been using Adcom Amps for about 20 years. First on Heresy's then on my RF 7's for the last 5 years. I bought them because I liked the way they sounded - brighter vs warmer, and they have plenty of punch. When I first auditioned them, I bought them over a B&K that was definately warmer. Since then, I purchased some Scott 99ds that I use on my Heresy's now. And, I've been listening to my uncles Mc240 driving his patricians. Over time, as I've listened to them more and more, i've become more of a fan of that slightly warmer sound and am considering a more warm amp for my RF7s. Obviously, I can't replicate macintosh and patricians with what I want to spend, but have decided that I do want a slightly warmer sound after all these years. I have a RF7,RC7, RS7 set up, and use it for both movies and music. I would likely get a warmer 2 channel amp to power the fronts, and leave the adcoms for center and rears. I'm currently actively bi-amping the fronts with dbx crossovers, but may not do this depending on the amps I get. I would like to spend $500-$700 (so, used). I've never bought a used amp (other than the scott tubes), so this would be a first. I was thinking B&K, since I remember it being warm, possibly Rotel, I don't know much about Emotiva, but would consider these if someone could describe this (XPA2) amp relative to others. Are there other amps that in your opinion sound warmer, but still very detailed? I'm using a HK signature 2.0 processor, which I really like and will be keeping. I know amps are a personal preference, but for those who have heard several brands, can you point me in a direction of Warmer vs brighter? Sorry about a long question for what I know is a common question - but I don't want to swap out and not have the sound I'm looking for, and it may be unlikely to hear these amps on RF7s, so test driving may be hard. Thanks for any (and all) advice. Del

  49. I have heard them twice. Once with Electrovoice 15trxb coaxials. Not bad at all. Then the same person who owns them installed some 15" Tannoys. Things got much nicer. $200 drivers vs.$1500 drivers. What I do remember about them is how loud you can play them without any distortion or breakup. In that respect they will put to shame 95+ percent of the other speakers out there. Really great for outdoors and a really big sound. They have their own signature sound which is kind of a cross between horn and bass-reflex speakers. It has been about 5 years since I heard them. I don't remember them for their sound-stage, clarity, smooth highs and other things that people associate with "high-end". The guru on this speaker is "FreddyI". I believe he is a member here. The Karlson homepage is still there but not active. There was a dedicated group of "Karlsonites" with a forum and very informative discussions. My brother built a pair recently but he hasn't fired them up yet. If you need info on construction, I'm sure one of us can provide it. Bottom line - it's a controversial speaker design that a few people adore, some people like and most just are just not interested in pursuing. And of couse, as with any other speaker, the right room and perfectly matched amplification might have just raise them to a higher level.
