  8. D H L The large global corporation is named after the American entrepreneurs and founders Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn. The name for the US logistics company was derived from the first letters of their surnames in 1969. In 2002, the German postal service bought the US company.

  10. Beef, onion, chili powder, green bell, green jalapeno and cayenne pepper, tomatos, kidney beans, garlic, cumin, paprika, s&p * by the way, tagged 115 db several times with that cd, lows around 89. Clean and clear as a whistle, wonderful bass that negates the need for a sub in here too! I would not want to color what these woofers can do with anything else. The textures in the bass... wish I could have found a 1440 of Jeff Becks "There & Back" when I tested the 15 inchers last night!

  20. Acquired yesterday. Drove through those eerie amber colors of that eclipse between Knoxville and Nashville to split up the trip. Actually these have a well respected provenance! I'd have to check before I laid that out. * @Dave A refurbished these prior to the last owner! Been a long time since I've have Klipsch that would crank! These do it so articulately and with a lower than usual frequency response that I disabled my SB-3000, it can only be adjusted down to 30Hz. The K-48-Es trounce that without a problem. The double pleated shades & latex pillows won't cover this environment for this so I'll be taking care of that next.

Automobiles instead of horses, trucks, electricity, telephones, cinemas, medical technology just everything. Wait! I missed prohibition! šŸ˜‚

  24. Thank you everyone. I see this Forum is just like it used to be. Everyone helping each other out. Mark at Paduch Home Theater had me give him a dimensional drawing of my room, and my speaker layout. He is giving it to the commercial design department and they are supposed to get back with him or me with their recommendations. Time to put the LaScalas and Klipschorns for sale. Can't believe that it has been about 20 years since I changed anything but the sub and TV.

  33. They sounded very good but the drivers I used wouldnā€™t play as low as the K-33 or unfortunately quite as high so they had a little trouble getting to 400Hz. they were flatter through the middle of the woofers normal range however and had a very nice quick attack. The original woofers that Dennis used are now unobtanium and I havenā€™t been able to find T/S parameters to exactly compare. Making my plenum angled and adding some wedges to reduce the internal volume would probably help with the high end. There were some other woofers that might work better that are still available, but at a higher cost compared to the budget drivers I used. In the end I swapped my K-33 back in and Iā€™ll probably go eventually to a K-43 or an Eminence Kappa 15C. I do think there is merit to the PPSL function and Iā€™d like to build a pair of Dennisā€™s dual 15ā€ PPSL subs to go underneath my KP-250s.

  38. I got into music around 6th or 7th grade in the mid-50s. Our record player couldn't do justice to rock n roll. I started out buying 78s, thinking 45s were just a fad. At the record store I saw speakers like Jensen and ElectroVoice. With the Allied Radio catalog I bought a University 312 tri-ax speaker and build a knockoff cabinet like the Airstocrat (I think Klipsch had a hand in that model). That and a 24W Allied tube amp using 5881 output tubes. A mono system. That did the job until the early 70s when the amplifier's transformer died and I couldn't find a replacement. So I began auditioning speakers while in Graduate School in Syracuse NY. In the first two or three stores I heard nothing that was as good as my single Airstocrat knockoff. Finally, a store in North Syracuse had some Klipschorns. By this time I was bringing my own records to the store for auditions--Rolling Stones and some classical music. The Klipshorns satisfied and I exchanged several letters with Paul Klipsch about the speakers and why the are so good. As a research assistant I could only afford one at time--they were $884 each! Took me a few months to go from mono to stereo. I built a Heathkit AR-15 receiver and was set then for maybe 20 years. Later I got Sony and then Denton receivers, but a could years ago I went back to tubes with the Elekit 8600S and Western Electric tubes. Life is good. Klipschletter2.pdf Klipschletter1.pdf

  39. A buddy of mine hauled around a pair of La Scalas as his PA system back in 1977, and kept them in his van when not in use at a gig, and kept them hooked up to his car stereo. We spent many hours driving around Denton, TX like that, listening to a lot of the KANSAS / Carry on My Wayward Son LP, and Fleetwook Mac / Rumors. That experience prompted me to get my own La Scalas several decades down the road, although not using them as a car stereo -- but they sounded great in the van.

  42. Well, since your ProMedia 2.1 system is new, you definitely have the new and improved right-angle DIN connector, so that is likely not your problem. And I don't know how Klipsch handles warranty work outside of the US, but they (or the outlet you purchased your unit from) surely would stand behind a new purchase that was bad right out of the box (unless there is some question as to whether you purchased your system from an authorized dealer). I would first suggest getting in contact with the retail outlet and/or Klipsch and describe the problem you are having and see what they can do for you. If you don't feel that approach is going to work for some reason and want to trouble-shoot the problem yourself (and you have the skills for doing that), I highly recommend going back through some of the many threads on ProMedia 2.1 system failures & potential solutions having to do with control pod issues, internal fuse failures, bad capacitors, poor board contacts/soldering (etc.) to see if any of that information might be helpful. Good luck

  43. I have tied The Marantz 2325, 2270, Pioneer 1980, 1250, 1050, 950,850, Yamaha 3020, 2020, Kenwood 9600 and many others. They have all been sold and the Sansui 8080db is still my favorite SS receiver. I now have tubes everywhere except my home office and that is my Sansui room along with a set of Chorus II.

  44. Just a follow-up to say that I am back in business with a new DIN plug end on my control pod cables that Mister_Clean took care of in short order (and for a reasonable price). Beyond that, it seems to me that Klipsch has a definite (and chronic) problem here that they are well aware of. While I like Klipsch speakers, this does not speak well of Klipsch as a company who sells a product that is either defective out of the box, or may well go belly-up down the road when the DIN plug finally bites the dust. Just my 2 cents.

  45. New member here. One of my two ProMedia 2.1 set ups has decided to act up. Not only does the right channel not work (no green light and no sound), but there is also no sound coming out of the woofer. I checked the single screw-out fuse on the back panel and it looked OK. The DIN plug was a bit bent (from the perspective of the outer plastic sleeve versus the inner metal housing), but all of the pins were straight. Here's the really weird thing ... a low level of sound is coming out of the left speaker, however, this is only when the Main Volume potentiometer is turned all the way down on the right speaker. In other words, the Main Volume control is working in reverse ... if I turn it up, the sound in the left speaker goes down, and when I turn it down, the volume goes up (although it never gets very loud at all). I have tried plugging jacks in and out, and turning the main power switch on and off, but to no avail. Since not only my right channel isn't working, but the woofer isn't either, does anyone have any ideas what is likely the problem with my unit?
