Zero here but the man to ask is @MicroMara. The guy w/327 carts and the 25 arm turntable WITH the dust brush. 😂 That table of his is a piece of art and he's fun to play with too. Doesn't eat much either. He'll surface. Some of the other guys will step up I'm sure. I'm the dumb red-headed step brother in the gaggle and just stir the pot a lot. Waits... I KNOW the comments are coming! Ruthless bunch in here! 😂4 points

Seriously? I can honestly tell the difference. Did a lil bit of an A/B test yesterday and there's a vast difference just like I knew there would be. The compression game sucks for sure. It does fill a void though with one's level of worthlessness. 😂3 points

I had the predecessor of that one for a little while. The ATLP-5. It would not allow me to hook it up to a preamp like it stated it would. Maybe the newer model corrects that. Not that particular cart, but it's a Microline and that is great! They operate with less weight because it fits the record groove better, don't wear out the LP like some rounded types actually do. I've preferred that brand for decades because of the clear separation of the high end, the clean bass and all around tonal qualities of Audio Technica. & I loved the chunky look of the ATLP-5!3 points

They're definitely "vintage." Everything looks sound....and old. Any way to demo them? I'd wanna hear them before knowing what I'd pay for them. That being said I'd love to find a pair like that. Oh I'd plan on recapping the crossovers after seeing them. What's the asking price? I'd move on these quick before someone else finds them.3 points

In the past I have owned every Heritage model and enjoyed them all. Years ago I started a long journey learning, building and experimenting with OB speakers. I too doubt I will go back to box speakers for my main listening room. I do use box subs for the lowest end, but my 3 front speakers are a DIY project with Heil AMT's and dual 18 inch woofers housed in an H frame. Overall, very inexpensive to make and enjoy. Biggest expense for me was the active crossover and amps. If you are at all interested, I highly recommend you take the journey and learn about OB speakers and build your own. Yes, there are many manufacturers of OB speakers, but you will pay for the better options. Pure audio project has some great, high end, options for the top end. There are limits to how you can use OB speakers relative to room size since they must be away from rear walls. Picking drivers for a project is not difficult and you can spend as much as you want in that area. Have fun and enjoy the journey. If you are interested in my experience, you can search my old posts during those builds. Plenty of pictures there. I still use and enjoy my KPT-942's in my large barn. OB would not likely work well in that application. In the picture below, you can see two of the full size Marty subs in the corners. I only use the subs for movies. For my 2 channel listening evenings, only the two mains operate. Bass is not at all missing, contrary to popular belief. Of course, you need a lot of room to house dual 18 inch drivers in each main speaker.....they are rather large. If you are interested in the build of the double stacked Heil AMT's, there is a very long thread with some really good commentary from some extremely knowledgeable guys from the 'old' gang on this forum. If you have never heard a Heil AMT, you owe it to yourself to find a set and listen.... If you wish to learn about OB speakers, there are many great resources on line. I highly recommend a deep dive into the Linkwitz Lab documentation.... Enjoy!3 points

Well I did a thang the other day. I've thought about streamin since I've got Amazon Prime but never tried it. Soooo, a couple years ago when I was putting together this rig. I made a phone call to one of the best boardmen in the business only to get laffed at again. I asked about a Schiit Mani phono stage and was told he knew both guys and they made some good schiit. 125$ and it's done exactly what it should do. It pukes it's a Puffffffin next time. Wasn't calling him again for more abuse (lol) so ordered a Schiit Modi+ DAC to see if it would work. Here in 3 days from TX and plugged it up this morning. That was after a short search for that 25' patch cord I had layin here for sumpin. Don't ask cause I dunno. lol Well, I do but nm. lol Long story short this thing sounds crazy good running thru the PrimaLuna and into the LS w/o the JBL SP128S fired up. NOW I can get off my rear, have tunes cookin and get some work done around here instead of worrying about flippin lp's all the time. I'm sure the 2k DAC's have their advantages but this hits the spot for me. I'll NEVER stop spinnin cause I know the difference but it does scratch that itch. Well worth the $150 imo. So much for being pathetically worthless. "Git 'er done!" @Marvel @JohnJ @Tarheel and the rest who might wonder about a quick fix. It really IS some good Schiit.3 points

I find my Modi 3+ a good deal/ Cheap and improves the sound over built in DACs. I have a Saga S preamp as well It does the job well too.3 points

More follow up, I just got off the phone with the folks at JEM performance. They still rebuild crossovers so I will send them mine and they can make sure everything is up to snuff. I can solder but this way they can inspect everything and replace / correct as needed.2 points

In cycling related news: The fork on the Cannondale Prophet Lefty that I bought a while back was leaking oil. Unfortunately Cannondale has changed hands 2+ times since the bike was built and no longer services old Lefty forks. Fortunately there's a company in New York, Mendon Cyclesmiths, that services older Cannondale Lefty and HeadShok forks. I sent the fork off to them and it should be arriving today. I'm really looking forward to riding it as much as possible now that the weather is getting nicer. I didn't want to ride it too much with the fork leaking oil because these forks brand new are $1,000+ and I only paid $300 for the bike. Surprisingly, they only charge $85 for rebuiliding the fork!2 points

Has anyone given you an idea of price once a buy is in the offing? Have a relaxed time and trade...2 points

The seller is going to have them set up so I can listen to them before we complete the deal.2 points

I would want to hear them before buying. Look for pealing/delaminating of plywood, dinged corners, water damage, etc.2 points

usps is baaaaad, m'kay? They mark stuff as delivered when it is not delivered! Like yesterday here! And a dozen times before. * My doorbell takes videos of any & all activity on the second hundred feet of my drive up here! no notifications, No video = nobody was here. They forged my signature once a couple years ago when I was in the ghettos of a sc swamp! That forgery was listed as an alias when I closed on my home!! I don't have aliases. Not only baaaad but criminal. No, they're exempt but I did get my $300 back. "There's no Place Like Home!" huh Dave? Updraft before the storm can be pretty bad, then you know what's coming! Glad you only got rocked and not rolled!2 points

I have the Mani 2 and the Loki Mini+. Great stuff. I'm actually looking to possibly sell the Mani because I picked up the Rogue Audio Sphinx V3 Magnum so I really don't need the Mani anymore.2 points

Switching amps or power supply can result in a sonic difference. For instance with a tube switching from triode mode to ultralinear will be perceived immediately due to the increase power. Bass control is easier with SS gear compared to tube gear. This warmth or sterile terminology is not the best wording. Some tube amps appear more warm due to distortion for the most part and suit high sensitivity speakers. SS, better control of all frequencies for the most part. I don't compare my SS gear to the tube gear. I like class A, class A/B, Digital and tube gear. One is not better than the other, it's the user's implementation toward their goals.2 points

Just recently acquired a turntable - after a very long time without one. Decided on an Audio-technica AT-LP5X Based on reviews, classed as a "best under $500" Direct drive, manual. Looking to add an ATVM95ML Any experience with this cartridge?2 points

so USPS is coming along.....Fedex is still way, way to hit and miss out here in cal-i-for-ni-ay. My mixer had to go back to Presonus in Baton Rouge and I was VERY leary as it went Fedex both directions. Had to buy a box from Presonus to ship it in and I packed/padded the be jeepers out of it. Come through relatively unscathed TG.2 points

I would go as far as saying 2 of the same manufactures, with the same topology, etc. For example, Parasound HCA-750 versus Parasound HCA-1000.1 point

Great advice, everyone, thank you. Due to my total newbie status on the board I cannot "like" any more posts today.... however, please consider all advice "liked"!!1 point

If I got them, here's what I'd do: -Remove all drivers and the networks -Blow out/wipe out as much dust as possible. -Give the top, front, sides a very light sanding -Repaint with whatever gloss or matte level black paint you choose -Contact JEM Performance Audio or forum member DeanG for network rebuilding options -Reinstall everything -Enjoy1 point

Not yet. However, I've been watching online sales for a while so I have an idea when they are going for... I'm comfortable with the deal we have tentatively struck, I just wanted to be aware of any known issues... provided they are just good, solid, old La Scalas I should be in good shape. I'll update the post once I have a chance to see / listen to them in person.1 point

You might want to sit down before you read this: I contacted Klipsch and let them know that I had seen this was an on-going fairly common problem and wondered if they were covering it with an extended warranty. THEY ARE REPLACING MY CINEMA 600 WITH AN 800!!! They no longer make the 600 so they are replacing it with the 800. I'm so gobsmacked, I'm telling myself that I'll believe it when it shows up (in 5-10 business days). I'm wondering if I am delusional when I read the e-mail and receipt for it! That was a short shelf life for the 600 so my guess is they quit making them because of the power supply problem. This problem has to be costing Klipsch a lot. Not to be ungrateful but I hope the 800 has a more robust PS. At least, now I'm ready. If it has the same power supply, when it goes, I have the one I just got from Amazon! LOL! (and bonus: Now I know I need a set or Torx drivers!) Thank you Klipsch!1 point

I think you've got a good handle on it. Speakers that are easy to drive and present a benign load don't usually benefit from more watts. Now when I say "easy to drive", I don't mean speakers with less than 95 db sensitivity. I mean speakers like the Heritage series and comparable ones. I still maintain what you are hearing is that you prefer the sound of the more powerful amp, and not because it's more powerful. Because it just sounds better. This may be for several reasons. 1) You like the sound of tubes over transistors 2) The Fisher has better parts and a better circuit design 3) The Fisher has a more robust power supply Or some combination of all of the above. But I don't think output power is what you are hearing.1 point

This has not been my experience with amplifiers that can switch between triode and ultralinear or pentode. Perhaps you mean gain?1 point

I am more than likely wrong, but does it have something to do with impedance swings and the amount of power it takes to keep everything under control?1 point

To all interested buyers: Have no fear buying these speakers. They are indeed the real deal, near mint, matched pair. They have been re-capped with the correct factory authorized Klipsch capacitors and the original phenolic tweeter diaphragms are included in the sale. seabreeze is my brother and I was present at The Listening Post in Pittsburgh when he purchased them new in 1986. Give 'em a listen before buying if you can. If not inspect for obvious damage and price accordingly. Don't worry about replacing anything that's not obviously bad. Leaking capacitors and damaged drivers if present should be accounted for in price. If that all works I would take them home set up and play some music. If there aren't any issues I'd listen for awhile before spending money. See what you like and don't care for before spending money so that when you do spend money it will be well spent. Good luck.1 point

Well, congratulations on your find, i’ve had the big heritage models or classic models for over 30 years not really a lot to look for as long as the cabinets are in halfway decent condition. That’s all I would be worried about all the drivers & CROSSOVERS if need be shoud be replaced for what I would call lunch money at todays cost , very inexpensive however, the case, thats the most important , crossovers, their are almost endless combinations. and if they are 25 or 30 years old, I would definitely without hesitation replace them give or ALK engineering. They’re all good. Depends what you’re trying to accomplish. They’re pretty good guys to deal with. I’ve tried them all what I’m using now would not be everybody’s favorite is an AB – 2 only due to the fact that I’ve been in bi amping them for probably 20 years, including active CROSSOVERS such as the Bryson, but keep in mind that’s after years and years of experimenting around with different combinations and different amplifiers. The speakers do seem to sing their best with tube amplifiers on the top and a good solid-state amplifier on the woofer cabinet, but good luck enjoy, you don’t need to get into all of they sound fine on a single amp try to get your hands on a good SET amp it’s definitely a different experience for me anyway just by humble opinion the better your sources naturally the better the sound enjoy good luck , NOTE the Biampping has to do with the way the speakers sound. I am not bi amping to get them to play louder. That’s not the idea. I like the older models better just my opinion , plus their current price is absolutely utterly ridiculous …..1 point
