  3. No dumb questions here. Love banana plugs. As often as I swap speakers around, it really makes it easy to A/B between speakers.

  5. Well some of you know i recently sold my RF-63 theater in search of something else for my living room. i knew of only one thing i wanted for sure. something very pretty to look at. i really wanted a ribbon setup but wasn't sure i could afford one. and i was looking a a few different brands. Salk, Ascend made the cut due to their ribbon offerings and then focal 800 series made the cut due to their price. well as much as i kept looking at the focal for the price i kept getting drawn back to the salks due to the gorgeous offerings they had. plus i had heard them once and knew they sounded amazing. well i finally found some salks that were across the country and they guy was offering only local pickup. so i made a post on facebook and my father in law just so happened to be heading towards kansas city. i made a call and then bought the speakers. they were picked up and survived the trip in the back of a truck with a camper shell. i only bought the front three as that is what the seller had. not sure what he had for rears if any at all. so without any more talking here are a few pics if my new Salk SongTower RT's and SongCenter RT:

  7. One doesn't need to have direct experience w/ a speaker to know that direct radiators have much lower dynamic limits than horns. It's physics, not conjecture.

  9. These are Craig's, which are very similar to Jan's. Jan has a very nice set of Universals which I built him about a year ago, but he much prefers the Jupiter build. This is pretty much where I'm at too, the Jupiters are just killer

  21. That would be my worry as well along with dribbling it down the side of the vehicle and melting the paint. I remember an urban legend going around maybe in the 80's. It was putting moth balls in the tank for increased mileage.

  24. I'll take a shot The autoformer input is usually 0 - 5. This would equate to C - -0 on this one. With this one, one can move the non-common input to decrease the attenuation by 1 or 2 dB. I assume both connections on the output side of the autoformer are moveable, to adjust the mid attenuation to taste. That looks like a plastic spool for the inductor, or just a plastic cap to hold it down with a brass screw. A steel screw would disrupt the magnetic field inside the coil. The tweeter is probably needs no attenuation, therefore no need for l-pad resistors. But hey...I'm still learning! Mike

  25. I don't see hair standing big dynamics coming from those speakers. They may sound fantastic at tea party levels, but impact, shear realism....might as well hook up the old set of Advents from the 80's.

  27. That opening is a bit alarming, I have never heard that much output from my F20s. I wonder how many subs it as killed.Good flick. many. There is a whole thread about it on Avs. Lol. Poor subwoofers.

  28. Interesting experiment. Sometimes the old half tank thing can lie. I will be waiting to see how it does when the tank is lower. I'd think Acetone would clean the injectors. It might improve atomization of the fuel. It may also raise the octane. If it increases mileage, it should be one of those factors. A common misconception is that higher octane is more combustible or flammable. The reverse is true. Regular gas is more volatile and prone to preignition, which means the explosion is occurring from pressure and heat before the spark plug fires. If you get preignition, you put higher octane in.

  29. I kinda get where you are going with that. With an electronic crossover, you can very quickly change crossover slopes or even disable LP/HP filtering. It is just as easy to change the crossover point. That is beneficial, because you can instantly hear if it is more pleasing. I was tuning a set of Heresy's to a single THT, and what I found was that I liked the Heresy crossed over at 40Hz with a very steep 48db/octave slope. The sub was crossed at something like 55Hz, with a less steep 12db/octave slope. This really did allow the Heresy to hit bass notes a LOT harder (with the sub off you could definitely tell). Point of note: I may be wrong, but I did some experimenting last night trying to find out what the common low bass notes there are in hip-hop and rap songs. I do not listen to that stuff, but my son does. What I found is that those low notes are 50Hz. That surprised me. Go check it out. For instance, the modern song 'Bang Bang' which seems to go really low is actually banging away at 51Hz. Does that surprise anybody else? I always thought it was in the 30's...

  37. I don't know what went wrong previously, but it's working now. However, it appears that it will not play FLAC or MKV files, so is of little practical use OK it turns out that my 5 year old NAS doesn't serve FLAC via UPnP, which is why it doesn't show on the 751 D'oh!

  44. To the OP, the term "BEST" is an elusive one? Cost, bandwidth, cubic feet of space, transient response, flatness, for 8, 10, 12, 15, or 18" driver? One driver or two? My Quarter Pie horns fill a corner completely (no wasted air space), is only 17" tall, which allows for various sizes and positions of a midrange/treble horn. It uses up 17.8 cubic feet of space, worst case. vs. 22.25 cubic feet for the Beck horn. The Beck horn has 3 folds for 270 degrees vs. one fold (90 degrees) for my QP. Guess which one will have the the better upper bass/mid clarity if the same driver is used? Also the QP uses only 11 pieces of wood with only 11 and 45 degree angles vs. 15 with lots of different angles, so QP is much easier to build. I'm just sayin'..................what is "BEST" for one person may not be so for another.

  46. What I can say is this: Klipsch has no current plans to release a sub that is better than the R-115SW at this time. We feel extremely confident that this is a great subwoofer, and it was even built with RF-7 systems in mind. It's that good, especially at the price point it's at. It really opens up the door for economically adding a dual-subwoofer setup that doesn't sacrifice on quality, in any regard. These are seriously bad-*** subs.
