  7. So, I have recently set up a new lounge (man-cave) in my basement with my audio and guitar equipment. Right now I have a McIntosh MC2105 amp, Outlaw Audio 975 preamp, Oppo BDP103 BR/CD player, and Pro-Ject turntable with a pair of Heresy II speakers and a Polk subwoofer. I'm seeking out a pair of Cornwalls to replace the Heresys as the main speakers and ditch the subwoofer. To the point of this post. I want to get a decent pair of headphones to plug into the McIntosh amp. When I started looking around at headphones, it seems everything is geared towards portable players. What I want is a nice pair that are just for my stereo and don't have cheap thin wires and require an adaptor plug. Who makes good "old school" headphones for home stereo set-ups these days? Or are their vintage ones I should seek out instead? Thanks.

  23. I am a bit confused... Looks like banana plugs plug into a part that screws into them? Is that last bit included? My 12 AWG wire is simply wound around the set screw, which is then screwed down, a few loose strands and all. I guess spades are what I need but never figured out exactly waht to get. Yes everything you need is included. The banana plugs you would have to add but other than that it's all you need. And like I said you can go no plugs if you wanted. I like using plugs. Sure beats wrapping the wire in there and screwing it down with strands creeping out lol. A spade would be cheaper. But your khorns deserve the better ones

  30. Nice job guys. All of the screws are non-magnetic stainless steel. I fill small coils with hot melt, lift the coil a little and let the glue run underneath a bit. I then press down, and fill the hole. After it cools, I drive a screw in. People who like to play with different tweeters usually have a pair of Al's attenuators, so I leave it up to the customer to dial in the tweets. I do try to steer people away from the adjustable l-pad version, which I don't like. If someone doesn't want the add on attenuators, I can solder in a l-pad using high quality resistors -- normally Mills, unless they specify something different. Mike pretty much nailed the deal with the jumpers. The first set went to Craig, and they were a prototype of sorts. Jan's order was in, but I needed to validate some things before I started his build -- and one of those things was the attenuation level for the BMS midrange. I scaled the parts based on 12dB of attenuation, and I was pretty confident with that number. However, Craig called within a day after receiving them to tell me that he thought the midrange was too forward. We were prepared for that possibility, and I had them set up so the midrange connections on the 3670 could be moved to add 3dB of attenuation. This would of course require the addition of a 15 ohm resistor in parallel with the driver to keep the crossover from shifting. Craig and Jan are both at 15dB of attenuation. Right now, I'm debating on whether I should rescale the parts and fix the attenuation level, or just go ahead and leave as is -- offering the two choices and taping a resistor to the board. I'm expecting to be told by Dennis and John (Warren) both to go ahead and actually solder the resistor in and lock it in at -15dB. I asked John to do some measurements for me after sending him a pair of the 3670s, and the results were interesting. After years of battling the idea of l-pads and running resistors in conjunction with autotransformers -- several of the plots showed a clear improvement by using the resistor in parallel with the driver. The plots confirmed what Dennis and Al had both been saying for years. I will leave it to John to post and explain the results of the plots (if he wants). Resistor or not, I would prefer that the attenuation level be "fixed". My preference would be no resistor, and that's based on the wide range of things I've tried over here with my LaScalas. The effect of the resistor may look better on paper, but it just sounds better to me without it.

  36. I may not be an expert at anything, but it sure is nice to have well rounded tool box of trade skills and experiences. We've had about 2 weeks of sleepless nights because the motor crapped out in our little baby swing. Fortunately I've got the tools and capability to track down the issue, replace the tiny motor (required mechanical dexterity, soldering, basic troubleshooting), and put it all back together without any extra parts. Super dad to the rescue! I'd like to thank my HS auto, wood, and electronic shop teachers - the basic skills learned in those classes almost 20 years ago have been far more valuable than any amount of Calculus that I've managed to forget.

  39. Interesting experiment. Sometimes the old half tank thing can lie. I will be waiting to see how it does when the tank is lower. I'd think Acetone would clean the injectors. It might improve atomization of the fuel. It may also raise the octane. If it increases mileage, it should be one of those factors. A common misconception is that higher octane is more combustible or flammable. The reverse is true. Regular gas is more volatile and prone to preignition, which means the explosion is occurring from pressure and heat before the spark plug fires. If you get preignition, you put higher octane in.

  40. I said "BS" because these things are relative. You can see from the picture that my setup is pretty tight. Seriously, I sit 7 feet back and listen with a quarter watt or less - what do I really gain by going to large format drivers. Now don't get me wrong, I like to lean on the volume every now and again, and if I had a large room and sat 20 feet back, I would probably be in trouble -- but in the present situation, it sounds just fine. I figured out how to get rid of the harshness over a decade ago, and you don't need a new horn to get it done. The dual phase plug K-55s are solid from 400 to 6000, and sound great. They also accommodate low order filters, which have low part counts. With only a half dozen or less capacitors to deal with, you can now afford to invest in the ones that actually sound good. If you have a really big room, and/or like to listen at concert levels quite a bit, then sure, the BMS or some of the other drivers are great choices.

  42. Tv is working good, game viewing is great, so im done with this Cave upgrade, next up is the "C/Ku" band of the big dish. 24 transponders on each Sat x2 if you switch to the Ku band and yes 75% are indeed scrambled, however im going for the live feeds. Any big dish owner knows what im talking about. Live news feeds are always somewhere, still have two old receivers that seem to work fine. 20 years ago there were a good amount of Sats, today they have doubled in number. noticed the new receivers have a search function and pricing is under a hundred bucks! Ebay has everything needed these days, and dam cheap too. Sounds like Tarheel has his extended weekend planned.

  44. A lot of people put different engines in fords and Chevrolets......do you still call a Camaro a Camaro if a different engine is in it ? It only matters if your trying to sell it as a Klipsch model and do not inform buyer you had done mods to it. As far as Crites mods such as tweeter it still fits in the space looks like the old one. Also Klipsch did offer upgrades over the years them selves and made the upgrades available to the owners. Rick

  45. As one who has had a medium amount of experience with modding some of the Heritage models, I really don't think that there's any kind of sliding scale of "quality" or value or worth, based on what those mods might happen to be. Some folks make changes such as updating crossovers, diaphragms, wiring, and I think can legitimately call the results at least "true to the originals".....Others make changes that are not even close to what was intended for that model, and hopefully they enjoy them, and then if selling, will disclose what's been done. Obviously what you think is better or worse is very subjective, but then you would have had to have had a baseline to compare that too....Just for an example, I am currently taking a pair of empty Cornwall I cabinets that I got from a friend, installing a K-76 titanium diaphragm tweeter, Chorus K-61 driver and mid horn, and a huge Kenwood woofer, with appropriate crossovers. I'll be putting in some additional insulation within the cablinet, reinforcing all of the interior joints, and adding some gasket material around the back panel. Is it a Cornwall? No. Will it sound fantastic? i hope so, but don't know yet (it should). What's it worth? Who cares.....
    1 point
  46. At some point I'd say it is Klipsch inspired. I tend to still call it Klipsch as long as the cabinet still exists. As long as it still sounds good to me I don't really care what others call it

  48. Hi All, Thanks for your response!! Really speaking, all your suggest didn't worked for me.... I did the same as per the all your suggest. I feel my choice RF-82 + Denon 3312 it really bad combination for 2.0 channels. Today I asked my friend to provide his 2.0 stereo amp (Pioneer A-229) to test the bass on my RF-82. Wow Wow!! I so impressed... what a BASS... I really felt very proud to have a Klipsch speakers.... After 2 years today only I saw the real effect of RF-82. - Pravin
