Funny you mention vacuums. My son went to vacuum this morning and nothing. Dang belt broke again, I think its time for new one. Speaking of new, I think my coffee maker is on the fritz. My coffee hasn't been that hot or that tasty. It may need to be cleaned. Where is Marks directions for cleaning coffee makers. Maybe that is in order this morning. Well it sounds like there has been a lot going on around here. I have been a little too busy to sit and read through everything. Sounds like everyone is doing good. Minermark had some sort of food poising, hopefully his wife learns to make their own tacos for taco Tuesday.. Yes Tuesday is Veterans Day, before I forget I want to thank all of you Vets out there for your time in the service. Both my grandfathers and uncles were in. A call is in order to my uncle on Tuesday. Well time to get back at it, so much to do not enough time for music . Maybe later.5 points

And good morning! Got our Hoover Platinum Collection vacuum cleaner this week from Amazon. Free shipping. The box was adopted(of Course) by one of cats to sit upon on end. Went slow with opening it this week until yesterday. Put it together(easy)and proceeded to let it sit. Sure enough, Nancy was reading about it, and digging on the ease of looks, features. Finally she powered on and, I did not have to use it at all. I told her she looks good using it and so far no vacuuming for me. No more Dirt Devils for the forseeable future.4 points

You will notice that the top amp lighting is dimmer. In the late 80's some kind folk broke into my house and damaged the amp glass. The replacement from local glass business didn't quite match. On the plus side they destroyed all 4 boze 901s4 points

Chad, It appears that direct signups for Forum ID's is not going to work since we have people who are spamming the site. Perhaps requests for new ID's should go through a moderator.2 points

I empty and clean the filters, that's my extent of knowledge of vacuums, oh and there noisy. You can get as smart as possible, it's only going to get you so far, it's a design thing, we can never really win that game only play along. I will never understand how they work, never, I have spent most of my life trying and have no idea really.2 points

I put the CT125's in mine along with the Crites A/4500 crossovers. I cannot really speak as to how much the improvement in sound is owing to the 125's or xovers , When they arrived I was too anxious to hear them to just swap in the tweets. I wish I had. They do sound fantastic and were a marked improvement over the old 77's and tired AA crossovers. Maybe ask Santa for the tweets and post a WTB for A/4500's? You certainly won't be disappointed and you worked hard this year so you deserve it. Right?2 points

Part of our service with Invision Power includes the Spam prevention service. Without that, the forums would be ALL SPAM ALL THE TIME. A few are getting through the cracks. When we flag them as spammers, they get banned, all posts deleted, and reported to the spam service, which uses the data to identify trends and help detect more spammers. I've also been banning IPs and in some cases entire blocks of IP addresses. We'll get 'em. We'll always get some that slip through occasionally. This is why we have mods :-) We aren't going to hold new user signups for manual approval. We just don't have the time or manpower. Our money is better spent making great speakers and headphones. ;-)2 points

Yeah it's from another company but this is an interesting article. Starting at page 20 it hits on why two subs are recommended. If you're too lazy to read that much, they measured a 16 db gain for the important seats at 36 hz plus being much more uniform up to 55 hz. http://www.harman.com/EN-US/OurCompany/Innovation/Documents/White%20Papers/LoudspeakersandRoomsPt3.pdf Pop quiz on this in the morning.1 point

Knowing what I'd do now I'd do things differently but otherwise, do you know what the best solution is to retrofit a rack into a room? I'm fine with it just being stuck in a corner but it's got to look sharp if I do that. Was going to order a Middle Atlantic RCR but apparently they discontinued them.1 point

Ok, my laptop idea didn't work out to well as it makes some horrible sounds when hooked to my receiver. I am thinking of building a htpc, if so would I still need a dac. Or could I just build the dac in with the htpc. How could I build a low cost htpc that doesn't sound like crap. I know I would like to stream movies down the road, but for now music is what is important. Actually lets just stick with music play back, as when I am done with the basement I can move this HTPC to the garage. So really my needs are a simple HTPC that I can connect to my network to access my music, via remote app on my phone. It must sound decent and be able to play back flac. Wow I really simplified that. If I can't build the dac into it, then I guess it gives me reason to buy another piece of audio gear.1 point

I was wonder if those that have Bob Crite's CT-125 tweeters in their La Scalas would chime in with opinions. I am not dissatisfied with the stock K-77s just wonder if the change is worth the price (in your opinion of course) considering it as an upgrade. With my KG4s and Heresy's I put titanium tweeters in and liked it, not an option with the La Scala. Christmas is coming soon and I was thinking of asking Santa to bring me a pair1 point

I was just going to ask how the RC was playing with Heritage. Soooo, not so well? Also, how did you find an RC-25 at Best Buy? Or is it from the newer Reference/Icon line? Sorry, newer reference line. Just didn't do it for me. Decided that other than the sub, I wanted all Heritage speakers in the mix.1 point

Whether there is an audible difference between caps is an old controversy. I believe PWK wrote an article about it being possible to make caps out of whiskey bottles. I was hoping to avoid the age old controversy of which caps are better and do they make a sonic difference... that's another topic beyond this.1 point

If the backs come off of yours ...... I think I helped mine by reinforcing that panel from the inside by adding a layer of plywood to firm it up. If does not vibrate at all now so I think it helped. I also put a seal around the edge to help seal the box better. One year in ice storm we had no power for a week hooked them to a battery powered boom box. You could hear them outside we had no power but we were rocking out. Neighbors were walking by with funny look on their face it was awesome. Rick1 point

The backhoe don't care if it's in pipe either, one thing I will say I hate to strip the end of a wire when it's direct burial wire, it's a pain. I haven't cut a wire with a backhoe yet but I did cut someone's 1 1/2" gas line in half with a trencher once. I smelled the gas and took off running to the truck, got a wrench and cut it off before it found a spark. His contractor cut corners and buried it about 6" deep so he not mad at me.1 point

There was a thread about a pair for sale in 2013 for $2000 on AudioKarma.com Youthman also listed a link in 2013 for some for $2500... https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/143853-shinall-kks-1-corner-horns-better-than-khorns-2500/1 point

I agree. PWK did caution that putting speakers on (most) stands will degrade the bass. A trihedral corner is best, with a little acoustical padding on the right and left corner walls, starting at the front of the speaker (not in back) to damp down midrange and treble reflections off the corner walls. If the speakers are on the floor and you are too close to them, things may be in the way of the treble pathway (your knees when you are sitting, a table, etc.) even if you have the speakers angled up on risers. Some people put speakers like these in the upper corners of a room, angled down, with the tweeters aimed right at the listeners ears. That way you get bass reinforcement from all three surfaces, and your ears can be on axis.. Of course, if the room is too small, the listening angle will be too extreme, unless you are in bed. Cautions: 1) The Heresy was not designed to be hung -- I can visualize it pulling it apart. It should get some support from underneath, such as a shelf like support that presses up against the bottom with a small lip around all sides. and screwed into the studs. The support can be angled down, if the speaker is securely attached to the support. Somewhere there is a picture of several Heresy IIs with supports like this mounted at the wall/ceiling juncture at the Klipsch plant. It was obviously a surround sound set-up, with several Heresy IIs along the walls, and Klipschorns in the rear corners. Very cool. 2) Anytime a heavy speaker is mounted on a wall make sure it is earthquake safe. PWK said that putting any full range speaker in a corner would be like multiplying the amplifier power by about 4. I would add that it would also shift the balance toward the bass.1 point

We've been down this road before. I like the designs that differ at least some from the factory Klipsch models, but for a company to copy cat another mans exact line up and designs which he spent the majority of his life researching and improving upon is lame IMO. Not much to actually design when you are copying straight across the board.1 point

8 inches off the floor is far too much. It is certainly further reducing the bass, in spite of what others may claim. Try them on the floor. The bass will be enhanced the closer they are to the wall and preferably a corner.1 point

"now have a set of '82 Heresy's I've restored am looking to mod" "How much of a difference would it make to put in Crites titanium diaphrams?" None, you have K77M tweeters. "What is the purpose of that?" Balance the speaker better for use off the floor.1 point

Mustang Guy: I would give you some advice, if I had any. You have such unique knowledge of your listening environment, there is nothing I could add that would be above your level of knowledge or experience with your space and gear. Everybody Else: I have been to Mustang Guy's Speaker Ranch and heard a brief glimpse of what his setup can do, and all I can say is that it is way above my listening experience. The bass is thunderous in a way I have never heard before, not so much loud as it is all-consuming, it's like taking a sonic bath. And I know MG turned the volume level down so save blowing out (pressurizing) my ears. I know you guys like your La Scalas; he runs six. His place sounds better than any cinema I have been to. It's unique to my listening experience. I think you should convert your digs to a jazz bar and charge admission.1 point

I love the screen you are using for music. Are those meters a functioning applet, or is that a foobar theme or something? Very very cool!1 point

"Two subs are recommended..." is misleading. Two are totally unnecessary for full range speakers, defined as per PWK as covering all but the last octave. That octave is inherently non-directional to human hearing. Also, in my experience, the fussy instrument setup and such is only necessary if you are anal or in a hurry...either or both. My sub, shown here as the big box with the port up and the R2R on it, blends relatively seamlessly with the K'horns and I simply have trimmed it over months of listening to various source material and tweaking.
