  1. It's Saturday for all you retirees who forgot to wind your calendars! 41 and sunny here. LF is in Wheeling....our first day apart in six weeks. Not much planned other than taking critter to the dog park and stopping by Whole Foods to get him a large bone. Need to make a trip to the ABC store.....hearing good things about Evan Williams Single Barrel bourbon. May get wild and crazy and turn on the much neglected sound system. Have the LF's Taylor guitar here so I may take a beginners YouTube guitar lesson later. She has 7 guitars and it seems a shame to not be able to play one. What do you guys have planned for the weekend? Cheers Gents

  4. What do we have planned? Well, I'm coaching my son's 5th grade basketball team against nearby rival Locust Fork in a couple of hours. That should be fun. Later my wife with sister n law will be making holiday candy. I'll be the official taster. Yep, life is good.

  5. Mathematically speaking, the Wife Acceptance Factor (WAF) calculation on these monster EV horns would result in negative numbers. Located in the middle of a forest in South Carolina, apparently. https://columbia.craigslist.org/bfs/4772422470.html They have a strangely compelling effect don't they? Like some kind of Electro-Voice Stonehenge! Thoughts?

  6. Checking traffic patterns on 2 interstates to Tampa and back X 2 BTB. Someone has to do it. Using 2 diff. routes as I have a closer cut for when I am behind the clock. Flexibility is crucial when carrying 250+ medical specimens. Avoiding traffic delays from accidents when possible is a must. Some days better than other's as I only have so much control over situation. Coffee and the speedometer cable working make it all possible for my style of driving. Watching the other driver and dodging their antics always reminding me about the calculus of probabilities, meaning that if I continue to drive in traffic, there will almost inevitably be a fender bender of some degree, or worse. Thanksgiving is typically over at Nancy's sister's place. Of course, I have to see my hometown friend of many years, as he is married to her sister. Not much to think about or decide. Sometimes it is nice to be taken for granted. Other times, not so much. I remain your friend, Billy

  7. The same as you, except for the lawnmower and Pecan chunks. Get the last few things needed, then cook and hope the mob eats most of it, (not really a problem) I love it but do not want to eat it for many day afterwards.

  11. For me it depends on what kind of music I am listening to. If i want a really clean soundstage in which I can 'see' Bradley from Sublime or Frank Sinatra then I will always go with 2 channel direct on my Denon AVR. But if I am listening to electronic music like Tech House etc sometimes I like that enveloping surround sound. I would definately invest in some acoustic treatment. Try taking a bath towell and pin it to your wall on the primary reflections points and it will give you a good idea on what kind of improvement it can make. The best way to find these is to sit in your listening spot and have a buddy hold a small mirror on the wall between you and the speaker. Have him move along the wall until you can see the front of the speaker in the mirror and that is where you will want the dampening. This will take some patience and some beer payment but it really makes a difference. The voices and instruments will be much clearer because you hear only the sound from the speakers. When that sound bounces off the wall and hits you you are hearing both the speaker and the wall but the wall sound took longer to reach your ears so its a faint echo that makes the music sound muddy. You will eventually want to get something better but a towell or a curtain is a good start to see how the mechanics work.

  12. Morning!! Got the Leslie fixed yesterday and celebrated with a rousing (?) rendition of 'Hi Heel Sneakers' on the B. Mostly getting ready for the Thanksgiving mob today. Groceries, table leaf, check supply of pecan chunks for smoking, etc., winterize lawn mower (not sure how that fits in). What are you guys doing for the holiday next week??

  13. Well that sounds like fun, hope they play well and most of all have fun, being the official taster also sounds like a good deal.

  14. Just curious, maybe because I've been playing this album a lot lately. What really amazes me is how tight this talented group of mostly amateurs sounded from vocals to instruments, especially considering only a couple of them were in bands at the time. Not to mention the kick *** soul tunes they got to sing. I'm not a huge fan of movie soundtracks but this one always floats my boat.

  24. I sold my Pioneer SC35 and ordered a new AVR to use as a pre pro.. I wish it had balanced, but it doesn't SC85 It has a better DAC than my Oppo, MCACC Pro, and the latest generation Class D amp. slightly better than a sideways move, but not earth shattering.

  25. Happy Friday, guys. Gonna be a good day. My lady is off work for a change and we're getting ready for Thanksgiving mob. Getting my Leslie (tone cabinet/speaker for the B-3) checked out for a weird noise, so my living room concerts can continue unabated. Sunny and mild in Denver metro and Baxter is settled into his new home and ready for a walk. Life is mostly simple these days and I couldn't ask for more. What a gift!! Check back later. (P.s. thanks to all who pitched in for Joe). Chuck.

  26. I've been texting an individual today regarding an RSW-10d he has for sale. The conversation turned out to be pretty humorous so I felt I had to share with you guys. Me: Hi, how much are you asking for your Klipsch sub? Seller: If you click on more ads by this user it will bring up all 40 of my ads including the ad for the subwoofer Me: Gotcha Seller: This way you can see better pictures of it but I'm asking 450 its like brand new I have two of them Me: Thx. I have dual RSW15 in my HT but am always looking for good deals on Klipsch speakers. Best wishes with your sale Seller: They don't make an RSW 15. And - 450 fair price they sell for 2000 mine is barely used and immaculate condition Me: Sure they do. These are mine Me: http://www.klipsch.com/rsw-15-subwoofer/details Seller: Those are over 13 years old and that's an analog speaker - a digital speaker major major difference you can't compare the two I have an analog but it's a 2013 model they don't make those anymore for a reason my speaker will blow both of those away together Me: Oh wow. You are welcome to bring yours over for a showdown lol Seller: No thanks but if you're interested in getting a digital speaker where one cabinet give you as much base as both of yours let me know. I'm not desperate I'm selling it for a fair price Me: You seriously believe what you are saying don't you? Too funny. BTW it's spelled bass. I've owned dual Velodyne HGS15's as well as dual Klipsch RT-10d (Digital) and one of my RSW-15 provided more output than either of those pair of subs. Which is precisely why I sold them and kept the RSW-15's. Ask anyone in the Klipsch forum and they will tell you the RSW-15 is the best sub Klipsch has ever made. Me: Forgot to mention I had a Velodyne DD12 (another "Digital" sub) and it could not even come close to a single RSW-15. Seller: Yes but this is the RSW 10d which out performs all of them the Velodyne your RT 10 D Me: This is the funniest conversation I've had in a long time. You clearly have never heard an RSW-15 have you? Seller: I used to own audio advisors in Palm Beach County I had thousands of them at my disposal its garbage Me: I'm sorry, I didn't realize I was speaking to an expert. Can you explain to me then through physics exactly how your RSW10d with a single 10" woofer + a 10" passive radiator will out perform my two RSW-15's which has two 15" active + two 15" passive subs? Seller: Research my friend...take care.... I'll sell it to someone who can afford it, so body with knowledge. (I then sent him these photos) Seller: Nice...but u wish u could afford that....I have 20 subs in my media room...Go away! Crackhead Me: I'm a moderator in the Klipsch forums with hundreds of posts showing various Klipsch speakers I've owned over the years. Me: It's just hard to take you seriously since "the expert" told me earlier that klipsch did not even make an RSW15 and later you say you had thousands of them at your disposal. LOL. This truly has been an entertaining conversation. I needed a good laugh. Me: In all seriousness, I do wish you the best with your sale. A good friend of mine in Kissimmee has an RSW10d. I've heard it several times and although It's a good sub, it just cannot come close to the performance of the RSW15. No response from the seller after that.....LOL Honestly, I couldn't make this up if I wanted to.

  31. My quick "Big Horn" story: Looking through the CL in norcal one day last Feb, saw a guy selling off componets of a theater in Monterey, so i ask the wife, Hey how-a-bout a weekend on the coast? Of course being adapted to speaker runs for the last two years, she has NO problem with this. Getting to the Theater, we are escourted behind the screen by an old retired audio engineer (Theater Owner) and shown the sound system that was updated 10 years before. JBLs, full theater set up, most everything was spoken for, Stacks, huge horns, wall mount 7.1s, so the guy is telling me what IS available, witch is really nothing left, i told him a couple of those huge JBL horns would have been nice, he then says i have a warehouse, would you like to see it? We met at his storage site a little later, he opens the place up and ask me what do i want, i look at the wife and say, "All of it". Three more trips to the coast and i had it all, what the hell to do with it i soon found out, NOTHING! Sold a few on the Forum(s), delivered most, donated a few, and gave a few away, and as of today i dont have one piece of that Theater. it was educational and a fun venture, lost money on everything, but hey no biggie, i was for a short time the NorCal King of JBL horns for a month.

  44. I don't want my recordings to sound like live...I want them to sound better than live. Is this possible? I say yes, and if anybody would like an example, I can provide it. This according to my own experiences hearing specific live performances, then listening to the recordings of those live performances. I just don't want to unnecessarily bore everybody with my war stories; I think I'm too wordy already.

  45. My favorite is Mogami W2921 quad core 4 conductor 13/14ga speaker cable. Mogami makes high quality wire and Mogami is the most popular professional cable wire choice, it is the wire used in nearly all major recording studios. It is sometimes referred to as High Definition wire because of its musical clarity. I make my own speaker cables using Mogami W2921 wire. . Using Mogami wire, GLS locking banana connectors, Techflex braided sleeving, cable pants and heat shrink tubing, my speaker cables both sound and look great

  46. Congrats! Awesome setup. I use dual RT-12d's and love the musical quality of them. If you have a mic and get the free Klispch Commander software, you can do a lot finer calibrating of the RT-10d's. However, the Klipsch commander doesn't do multiple positions, so you may just want to stick with Audyssey. Personally, I didn't like like Audyssey XT, but a lot of folks do. XT32 is a lot better version though (IMHO). I've done A and B testing using the Audyssey flat curve, and XT32 does a great job in my weird shaped room with no treatments.
