  14. Wow you have spring weather, hard to imagination with all the wind and snow. 12 deg with 30mph gusts. I know it's pretty up there but when it all melted I would move ! Ok I lived in the South all my life, a little snow if fine, THAT is enough snow to make be pack up and move...........yes I am a sissy. I don't want to live anywhere colder than here, an island would be even better, imo.

  15. 70's today and possible snow later this week. How's that for meteorological diversity (insanity?). These swings are never an opening to spring in Colorado since we don't get to spring until May and the big snow month is usually Feb. or March. Oh well, the dog liked his walk in the park today. Cheers, guys.

  18. 1% vs. 2% THD for a subwoofer is a meaningless difference. Especially when talking about kilowatt amplifiers, it means that difference shrinks even more. When you get into the 10% region, the conversation truly begins. Those numbers mean nothing without knowing the xmax of the drivers and drones. You need to calculate volume, not area. EDIT, someone just needs to get one of each and drag race them! I can confirm that the Palladium 12" has greater linear excursion than the RSW 15 driver. This is not to say that it is "superior" due to the significant cone area difference. However, the P312 does not disappoint on any front. It produces a hilarious amount of output for its size. When you run two of them (which we do in one of our listening rooms), it becomes extra exciting great idea horrible idea. seaton subs are monsters and would spank both subs you have. they are one of the best commercially available subs for music i have ever heard. Now I get that the Seaton subs is a great idea, but a DD-18 a horrible idea? Come on Scrappy, there is nothing "horrible" about a DD-18. It is a wonderfully accurate and musical sub. It's just not the monster HT sub that the Seaton is best known for. Bill The Velodyne DD-18 and DD-18+ are both phenomenal products. They are very highly respected around here for their performance. You will be hard pressed to find a lower distortion subwoofer on the commercial market with its sonic output capabilities. Data Bass, while informative, does not tell the entire story. I'll let everyone in on a fun fact: us engineers need our competitors to make high quality products that at least match and frankly can hopefully exceed what we're doing at the moment. When you ask "how are they doing that?" and can then apply your own design approach and supersede their performance, that's when you get the best products. This competition is what drives engineering forward. Once you're the leader, and if no one else is close, progress can stagnate. When there is a competitor making something you can truly respect, it pushes you further to leap frog them and give your customers the new greatest product on the market. This is especially important in headphones with the likes of Sennheiser, AKG and Grado. Not a single person in this office would say their performance-oriented products are anything but superb. For loudspeakers, we likewise have brands and engineering principles that we respect. One becomes deluded quite easily otherwise, and the customer ends up losing out.

  19. I have one of these (this pic is not of my own). Winchester Model 90. Mine shoots .22 shorts only. My grandfather gave my brother and I each one when we were teenagers. My brother dislikes guns, for the most part. I've asked him if he still has his, and he's always a bit evasive. I would love to have his so I could have the pair on display, so you could see both sides. Bruce

  26. Do I have a counterfeit badge from ebay? When I got my '81 Heresy's they were missing 1 badge. The one that came with it looks like the 3rd one down in post #5 above. The one I got from ebay is not engraved but rather paint on a copper plate. Same dimensions and exact same logo. And not brushed, just shiny copper. Did Klipsch ever make painted (not engraved) badges for Heresy's?

  28. So what? That is still NOT a reason to talk to people in the manner that he does. His choice of employment doesn't make it right to come on the forum and abuse other members. Maybe my opinion means "Nothing" to him. I don't care but he's a JERK. Just because he has a different opinion than other members does not make him right. He's just mad because someone else makes more money than he does and he thinks his job and position in life is better than others. Cry baby

  33. That RSW-10 was $1300 retail when new. Your $400 find was pretty nice. You've used it (not sure for how long) and now you can get a brand new $500-600 (street) Klipsch sub for the price of shipping, maybe $100. That's pretty nice too. The real question is, can you get a replacement driver that would equal the sound quality of the original Klipsch, and for how much? My answer is "I don't know." I think the safe bet would be to take the new one. But what if you could UPGRADE the old one for a couple hundred bucks? I would get a second opinion. The folks over on AVS.com are real knowledgeable on sub drivers. Many people here are also members there. Try asking your question on the DIY Speakers and Subs Forum to see if that Dayton Audio driver would be the best replacement driver for your Klipsch. http://www.avsforum.com/forum/155-diy-speakers-subs/

  38. I can say this much about the Mid Ti and tweeter etc, - to my ears - in my place - which is more on the warm side - with the wall treatment and Area rug - fabric recliners etc, - it sounds just fine in my place - what makes the most difference now in my system is the quality of the music - if its crap music or quality is low - bad recordings - then it will sound worse - alot worse than before - but if you play any clean quality recording - it will sound that much cleaner - detailed and i dont feel it has that chalk board finger nail sound - but if i did hear that - i would change them out also - who wants that there is not wrong or right about anything - if it sounds bad to your ears - then its bad for you - - what stands out is the small details more and the bottom end dosnt over power the top - i was nervous doing this because of reading all these Neg. ;posts about them - got me concerned - but i had them already and i wasnt going to turn back till i heard it myself - its still new to me - but i didnt hear anything that would make me consider changing them - forget about HT - or other types of music that is just noise or dance music etc, - even Heavy metal - i wouldnt use those types to show off the system etc, - those types of recordings are usually never clean quality music to begin with - i am sure i will run into a song or two or recording which is low standard or over processed from the start when recorded and yeah - i am sure it wont sound great on those few i run into - i dont think any system will sound great all the time with everthing you play on it - a friend purchased a set of Polk speakers - Rti 9 i think - not sure - they are impressive to look at - and he took them home hooked them up and guess what - he didnt like them - - after hearing my RF 82's - he heard the polk once and took them back - he came home with the 82's and then later got the forte II also - and never looked back at anything else after i got him hooked on Klipsch - he did his upgrades also on the Forte II - but back then i didnt know about the Mid ti and he didnt either so he got the Mid from Bobs - his sound great also - now mines sounds great - they both sound great to me - but now i found i didnt have to add any EQ or exciter and i still hear them clear and detailed more than before which i had the exciter on to bring it out more - knowing me - i am sure i will play around with the exciter later on - its a human thing - and why not - thats what this hobby is all about - enjoy it - play around - try different things - new things - old things - what ever - as long as it keeps you enjoying it - i have always liked classical violins etc, - and still do - but as of late - the saxophone really shines on the forte II - and the vocals - very nice - really all instruments are present - all that is needed is a quality clean recording - i guess there is no right or wrong etc, - its your personal taste - everyone has different hearing also - i know for a fact that i myself have a good ear but i am congested alot also - so that affects it - when i clear up and my ears open up - for that time - i can hear so much more - just dosnt last the speakers sounded very good before and they sound just as good now plus a little more detailed on the top end - thats all - nothing too drastic i think - bottom line i think it comes down to the quality of music - who ever is thinking about it - i say - if you like the sound now - then leave it alone - but if you are changing them anyway or they need to be replaced if broken etc, - i say give it a shot and see how you like them - if you are a person who seems to want to adjust your EQ or always looking for a little more on the top end - then i think you will like them -

  40. Thaddeus Smith is who I'd hit up for questions. There are others also like Joesportster that have a lot more knowledge than I do. I can tell you what I started doing, but I'm also still tweaking things. I took my laptop and turned it into a music server as others have also done. I bought a USB DAC with component outs and have been uploading my cd's lossless onto my computer and transferring them to an external hard drive. I then hooked the DAC into a tube amp and have it powering a 2 channel set up. There are several music players besides Itunes, Windows Media Player that may do a better job for you. JRiver is highly recommended as well as Foobar2000. I am playing with both to see which I like better. Both outperform Windows Media on sound quality and can play higher resolutions and media files. Windows Media doesn't do AIFF or FLAC,and depending on the player you decide to use, need to make sure the files aren't wma as the player won't pick them up. I personally like the setup with my computer being output to the amp through the DAC better than running through my AVR. It seems to me anyway, the sound quality degrades a little through teh AVR and with it directly through the amp opens up the sound stage.

  41. Also all you old school .22 fans might like this, my grandfather passed on one of those High Standard .22 revolvers from Sears, got it new for like $40. 9 shot, can shoot .22 longs, shorts, and magnums.

  42. That definitely complicates things! Each track... argh. Any way, it's good to know, and at least with our favorite CD's it sounds like a worthwhile project. For those people who have FLAC's already made, they could process those.

  44. Regardless of hearing loss, to me its all about the dialog. I think voices ought to sound realistic, and that includes the level. If I'm sitting 10 feet away and somebody talks at reference level, they'd be screaming at me. I can hear them just fine and it seems fairly normal at -25 db. THX Reference was meant for a large theater that may be full of people. I don't believe it is necessary in a perfectly quiet small living room. More important than toning down the loudness of voices is making sure whispers can be heard. Klipsch does a good job of this compared to other stuff I've heard. When somebody whispers or mumbles, I want to be able to understand it, and I also want it to sound like a whisper, which by definition is quiet. Also, home theater is a social activity. It is awkward when you can't have a conversation with your guests. It is important to me to be able to hear the full frequency spectrum and have good dynamics, yet not be so loud that you can never talk. So, I like having a good balance. -25 and sometimes -20 does this for me. As long as you have good overhead capacity I think this is plenty loud enough. Louder is more encapsulating, but as with the concert volume, you'll just get used to it after awhile. I think you can get away with less as long as dynamics is good. If I listen to concert blu rays at -25 vs. -10 I don't enjoy them any more at the louder volumes, actually less because my tinnitus kicks in and I can't hear well for a long time.

  45. Pro version of Heresy II, with a nice robust crossover - including a tweeter protection circuit. I picked up a pair earlier this year and am using them in my HT setup with good results. Not ported, so they have good mid range but are a bit anemic on really low content.

  46. No, the k-76 was designed / used in much lower output speakers like the Quartet (117 db) and Heresy II (115 db.) The magnet is much smaller so less sensitive and they won't take as much power. The 301 II's are rated at 125 db.
