  1. Good evening guys..... Coffee done many hours ago, I can't drink it in the evening hours. It gets me all crazy, I have some problems sleeping as it is. So I don't drink any at night. Joe that rain you got was snow up here. It dumped about 10" on us in NW Maryland. I tell ya I'm done with this winter. So no work today. Ok guys I'll have a cup with ya in the am.....a goodnight to all. MKP :-)

  5. We should grab pitch forks and torches to descend upon Klipsch/Audiovox to demand the banishment of foam surrounds. Talk about planned obsolescence? Foam surrounds don't last. The treated paper surrounds in Klipsch Heritage drivers last indefinitely. I enjoy the sound of my Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 while toiling at my computer, but I know the foam surrounds will fail eventually. Show me an old speaker with foam surrounds and I'll show you a re-cone waiting to happen.

  8. Good Friday morning gents. It got down to 30 this morning but at least the wind died down and it was dry. Should be mid 60's and nice tomorrow. No cable stories to tell that I can think of. Coffee should be espresso tonight as Friday night is movie night at the house. I'd hate to waste $2.16 of my hard earned money at Redbox by falling asleep during the show.

  11. For those without a multimeter but with an spl meter, try this calculator. I've found it to be pretty close to actual electrical measurements. Be sure to select "near a wall" in the speaker placement box, as the calculator seems to produce more accurate results in my experience, and also use real/realistic/conservative sensitivity numbers.

About potato salad, I love it also, everyone makes it differently and I love them all. Guess I am just easy to please ? And chips are my biggest weakness, more than sweets by far so your plate looks perfect to me. Looks good,

  16. Happy Friday folks! Warming trend here so we're anticipating a great sloppy snow melt, at least for a few days. Finally got Baxter out for a walk yesterday and will try again today. Movie Night on Fridays at our house, too. Will probably play a few tunes on the B before that. I've been stuck on a few old songs the past few days like the old country tune "Abileen" as well as some vintage Hank Williams. Not exactly pipe organ material but neither is the rock 'n roll that I like to bang out. Cheers............

Even a low volume, this pair is ground moving. Cut-off set at 40Hz, about 2/3 power on subs. Main pre volume just cracked open a little bit, OMGosh!!! 20. Yep I feel Ya, I was done with the winter as well cold here this morning heat is on but no snow YAY !!!!!!!!!! No Work Huh, Either you work for yourself or you have a decent Boss I am betting self employed B-4 my injury the employer wrote me up for missing a day due to inclimate weather, They expected me to drive 87 miles with 2 feet of snow on the ground and still falling "SAFETY FIRST" They actually told us we were emergency personnel, and when the Governor said stay off the streets we should tell the police we are emergency personnel and when they dis agree we should piss the cop off further by requesting his name location and badge number...............some of the management was a tad self absorbed We had a safety audit where they stated mediocrity was the center of gravity concerning management , I so wanted to print that report they of course blocked that option off to make a cup (NO K Involved )

  35. Hey Jeff. This is what I did. Generously season chicken with Slap Ya Mama and Louisiana hot sauce. (3 Boneless breasts, 4 Bone-in thighs) Line bottom of a large saute pan with olive oil and heat on medium to 350 degrees. Brown chicken on both sides for 5 minutes each. Brown both sides again for 2 minutes each. Remove the chicken from the pan and add 1 large white onion and one medium bell pepper diced. Cook until the onions are mostly brown being careful not to burn the chicken stuff that is stuck to the bottom of the pan. Deglaze the pan with about 8 ounces of white wine. (Chardonnay) Scrape everything stuck to the bottom with a wooden spatula. Once the wine is boiling hard add two bunches of broccoli and and cover for five minutes. Stir the mixture, reduce heat to simmer and cook an additional 10 minutes. Cut the chicken breast into wide strips and add all of the chicken to the pan. Stir and cover 10 minutes or so until the broccoli is cooked but not mushy. Enjoy with rice or french bread.

  37. How much distortion are we talking about? I didn't realize this was an issue. They don't seem to make external low power home theater amps though. You get a 5-7 channel amp and it's nearly always going to be 125-200 watts per channel. Even with inefficient speakers and playing at pretty high levels you're not going to constantly be running it at 2/3 power. Don't get lost in the weeds. All amps, even class A types, exhibit rising noise at diminishing power levels, as the inherent noise of the component parts starts to dominate thd/noise measurements at such micro-watt levels. Fortunately, that's only a problem if you're running genuinely high sensitivity speakers (think active rigs with fully unrestrained cd/horns). Once you go from micro watts to milliwatts, as would happen with less sensitive speakers, such potential problems are already in the rear-view mirror so to speak. I'm sure it's more than usual but unfortunately the posted numbers seem to be bloated and exaggerated though. Good examples: http://www.soundandvision.com/content/klipsch-thx-ultra2-speaker-system-ht-labs-measures Measured at 92 db. 97 is what is claimed. http://www.soundandvision.com/content/klipsch-reference-rf-83-speaker-system-ht-labs-measures 94 vs. 100 claimed. For comparison, B&W CM9's measured at 92.5 from the same lab. Martin Logan Motion 40's are 91. Paradigm Monitor 11, Series v.5 were 93.5. This is exactly why I suggested "real/realistic/conservative" sensitivity numbers for that power calculator. Forte II are ~95.5 db/w/m, not 99 as claimed. It's pretty much that way across the board with Klipsch, at least the ones intended for domestic use.

  43. Remember a 10dB increase in sound intensity most would judge as TWICE as loud, but 10dB more out of your amp is 10 times more power. To double the intensity again would require 100 times the power. Headroom is a good thing.

  44. As of 1240 PM today, I am officially a Fusion owner. As some of you remember, my first Emotiva purchase was a couple of weeks ago when I landed a sweet deal on an XDA-2. Prior to that, I had also gotten a great deal on a Fusion 8100 - but would need to be patient as it was in for repair. The waiting finally paid off today. Safe for a few minor heart attacks related to my own stupidity and rushing of getting it setup - things worked like a charm. It sounds brilliant, puts out some killer sound, and handles HDMI switching with a good amount of ease. I have not yet tested anything outside of it's PLIIx and stereo (also direct) modes, but I plan on toying with those sometime soon. My RX-V2500 has been moved off to the side as Mix-Out duty for my two RB-3's...it will eventually get replaced by a Sherbourn 4Z-75 amp. My heart attacks came from some poor management of devices on my part. The first issue that came up with a steady popping in the speakers (all of them) when no audio was playing through my computer. I tested multiple cables, and different inputs - all with the same result on the computer. However, if I used my Blu-Ray Player, none of that noise was heard. When putting audio through the HDMI though, there was no popping noise. It's only when there's no audio going through the card on the computer. That shouldn't be a big deal now that I have a device that will effectively handle HDMI codecs though and can be used via the Blu-Ray player. Not to mention the DAC... The second heart attack. For some reason or another, my computer was not finding the DAC after the Fusion showed up. I tried unplugging it at the computer, and back in. I tried rebooting the computer, the XDA...with no results. Finally, I decided to unplug and reconnect the USB at the back of the XDA.......only to find that I never plugged it in in the first place....wow. As it stands right now, I'm chilling to some Jeff Lorber Fusion ("Chinese Medicinal Herbs" for those who wonder) and am gonna sit back and chill to some good tunes for the rest of the evening. Obligatory photos - pardon my wires...I'm replacing the back fabric on this stand:

  48. Blown away by "Muscle Shoals". I watched the first half of it on Netflix on my PC because my SMART TV would not connect to the internet so therefore not to Netflix. The story was great and also the music. The audio was mixed perfectly for stereo and sounded great even on my PC rig. I watched the other half today on my family room rig since now my TV was connecting to the internet. The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix was of the same fantastic quality as the stereo mix and sounded absolutely wonderful through my RF-63/RC-64/RS-35 setup. If even a portion of the music out there was recorded and mixed with the quality of "Muscle Shoals", then real music just might make a comeback. Two for Muscle Shoals. Bill
