  1. Morning Guys, My first car was a 1965 galaxy 500 convertible, 6 different colors and the back glass was out as well as a hole in the top above the front seat. Driving my brother once to see his girlfriend we hit a patch of ice car did a doughnut and slammed into a snowbank on the passengers side my brother went up and forward spilling a hot cup of coffee on his lap and hitting his head on the pin that lined the top up on the windshield (he was not very happy) got out to check the car only damage was a dented hubcap another time driving my brother and his girlfriend and a girl with me it started snowing out and the hole in the top was letting snow in and blowing all over my brother and his friend (stopped and hung a towel) funny times, I ended up using a pool patch on the roof, and brush painted the car with a gallon of paint someone left in a junked car..................Looked great from 30 feet away, just had to make sure did not scratch it as it would peel paint off like an orange Fun Times for sure

  4. Now duder I know you have been busy but set your priorities. Are your coffee klatch buds more important or is your job? Watched the Tarheels beat Virginia in a close second half (ACC tourney). Expecting rain today and then a mighty nice Sunday in store. Time to walk the Jakemiester. Cheers Gents

  5. Morning folks, up early this fine Saturday for another BBQ contest. This one is for pulled pork, and a benefit to boot. Man I tell ya, I fell like I have been busy lately. Usually I can stop in once in a while, but work has kept me going. Well I started some higher learning classes this last week, and I don't know how I will pull it off but I will give it ago. Sounds like Chucks painter did a good job, and Mark is fitting mosquitoes. The rest of you, well the rest of you sounds like your having fun. Bigstewman, maybe consider making coffee at home. I don't know what it is, but since I quit eating out, when ever I do know I get sick. MPK, another great thing about having a/c in the is that it cuts down on dust and contamination. I would give it a try if I was you, a/c makes it nice to work in the shop during the summer. Does anyones computer seem to bog down when on the Klipsch forum. Yesterday, I thought I finally got my adaware, malware, problem under control. I was at 40 percent ram usage, then I came here last night to do some reading and was back up to 50-60 percent. Well I have to run for know, you guys have a good one.

  7. The more I evaluate amp performance in near-field systems, the more I am convinced that every recording has a "magic" listening level (different for every recording I've tried) which I define as the level at which, with eyes closed, the immersion in the music becomes total. Everything seems to disappear, including the room boundaries, speakers, equipment, etc., leaving only a large soundstage of which I am a part, and with every instrument and performer being very clearly located in space (assuming, of course, that the recording isn't total crap). Generally, the level is quite low, rarely exceeding 70-72 db at the listening position; and most often the level is in the mid to upper 60 db range. I have not been able to duplicate this in large room systems which, of necessity, usually have to be played louder. At those higher levels there is no immersion, but rather just a big wall of sound. Just wondering if others have experienced this. Thoughts and comments appreciated! Maynard

  8. Welp sir, Having my second cup of starbucks Sumatra dark that Nan came home with last evening. Just 12 oz bag but, maybe the way to go in trying out what I may prefer. A bit at a time. Have to say not bad. Of course, having drank Maxwell and folgers for so long on a daily at home basis, the Sumatra is several rungs up the ladder in taste. While it does not have the aroma pregound, straight out of the bag, still not too shabby. Will be going shopping on my own for various items and will see if I can run into Maj.Dick..., or other, preground for now. Do not want to excite my senses with too much, too quick. Taking things slow nowadays, and savouring life. May take my bubba to go cup on the road this weekend. Always reading your posts... http://www.target.com/p/bubba-travel-mug-classic-black-20-oz/-/A-14461059#prodSlot=dlp_medium_1_3&term=bubba

  9. Mornin all. Looks like I missed a bunch late yesterday. Fun memories with the posts on Ford Galaxies, fairlanes, etc. For me it was the parents' ford station wagon and later a VW Beetle. ( I was more limber back then.) Full day of friends and family. Will work Baxter's walk in too. And ... just won an ebay auction for an Oppo BDP-95. Yeah, I know, but the guy's got great feedback and 100% positive rating. We'll see, huh. Check back in a bit. Chuck

  11. Sad coffee story … this cat at work is sick. I’m a germaphobe and have been trying to avoid him for days. Yesterday, I’m walking through the parking lot and notice that the coffee cup he’s holding is the same type from the place i stop each morning. Now, i can’t let something like that go without saying something. So, i ask him “did you go to that donut shop right down the street?” He says, “yeah. I generally go to this other place; but, went here today.” So, on his sick days he goes to a different place for coffee? Isn’t that like industrial sabotage? Anyway, this morning, remember I’m a germaphobe that thinks this dude has now contaminated the workers at my donut shop, I decide to stop at another place. I’m next in line and the guy in front of me starts coughing. So now, i have to leave. I walk down to the supermarket because there is at starbucks inside of it. they have horrible coffee; but, i drank it anyway--because i spent 20 years in a sea-going service. Sometimes it’s tough being me.

  12. A room with certain acoustic characteristics will sound more pleasing at a certain SPL, and also with certain types of music. A well treated room will sound "better" over a wider range of SPLs and with a wider selection of music.

  15. Agree with the original post/point. Admittedly, have not read all the responses, running the gamut from on target and specific to disinterested to dismissive and to flippant. However, may we not want/expect/aspire to decent and respectful talk and conversation among ourselves? Especially when we knowingly or disrespectfully refer to the greatest of Holy of Holies--our God, Lord, Savior, Creator of us all, and sure hope of all who love Him? It is not cute or amusing, or "accepted" or of no import when I hear the name of our Lord tossed about so mindlessly, so absently, so casually--and worse yet, as a pejoritive ("God damn". when God so wants us to know Him and love Him and relate with Him. He sacrificed Himself to save all who will know and come to Him, not to "damn" us to hell.). So, thank you for the initial and post, because this is something that needs expression, discussion, and understanding--NOW. To provide even a modest scale of reference . . . how much reluctance would we impose upon ourselves to substitute very worldly terms and names in the place of "God". Ethnic names? Murderous religious names? Racial names? But we do for the One who created and loves and provides for us so? Thank you all for the opportunity to express my thoughts about this!

  16. I don't really listen near-field I am back 11 feet from the Khorns in a triangle of equal lenght, my room is treated and Eq'ed so I have great balance and a huge sound stage. It just doesn't get much better!!! I have noticed on my recordings the difference in sound quality as well as the sweet level for that recording, just kinda depends on the recording itself!!!

They look like a nice 69 vette compared to a new Ferrari when compared to the Palladiums. Both well respected, but........... Nice speakers man! Wow. The elite of the elite! When is this going to end!?!

  23. Finally, someone who agrees with me! I'm a guy, which by definition automatically means, I like stuff, and I like to buy, stuff. No doubt, getting a new bike would be fun. That being said, if you have a decent 10-speed like is shown in the pic ^^^ which means skinny street tires, no suspension, road race bars, then I would seriously continue to use that. Install new tubes and tires due to rubber rot over the years, put some grease in the ball bearings in the wheels and fork race, tighten spokes, add a new chain, brake pads, have someone lube and adjust the derailer, maybe get a new gel seat, and I think you're good to go.

  27. and the older , the better - the peak quality recordings were done between 67 and 79 - in Germany -England mostly -that time zone was magical in sound reproduction -- the budgets that were spent were 50 times the ratio today - a record took weeks rather than hours to make - and with the current gear - it is even better - -SCOTTY - beam me back

  32. ^ I don't know about all of that. I do know, as a hard-core atheist of 22 years, just how merciful and loving my God has been to me, saving me from my arrogance, vanity, self-confidence, my delusions and stupidity, and my "self-sufficiency". My gratitude brings tears to my eyes every time (which is frequently) I consider His work for me and with me and in me. I do pray that understanding for others, too!

  33. We could start fighting about anything. The guy simply said that using the F word in conjunction with "god" was offensive to him. That is understandable. So why the big discussion? Why not just respect his need to not have God dishonored from his perspective? Geez!

  34. Exactly! We have the right but common courtesy should prevail. Social situations call for common courtesy, other situations can be used for the exercising of rights. Has it come to the point where people do not understand the difference, FFS?

  35. No go. "LMBO" is an OK alternative. I'm just not a fan of profanity, I had my share of that when I was an adolescent. Adults should be able to articulate ideas without having to use profane language or insinuating profane language. FYI, I am also not a fan of using the abbreviation "N-word." To me its the same as using the original word, which is equally not-OK.

  37. Yes, the constitution does not allow the US government to restrict the freedom of speech. Is it your opinion that a website sponsored by Klipsch Inc is the US government? We are a group of folks with some common interests. Each of us brings our own set of values and beliefs. Why not respect the fact that not everyone shares your values, nor should they need to. If the OP found it personally offensive, then it was. Nothing to discuss. I am making a statement period about "calls" for censorship. Klipsch can do as they want as do many corporations. However, people should be offended that society today thinks curbing free speech is a good idea; I am. I am offended that certain sites and certain companies are willing to claim that in the name of diversity, they force assimilation. I am offended that the list of words that are "offensive" grow daily. Now a series of letters offend. The OP stated he was offended. He has every right to be and there is no argument to that. But for those who don't share his particular belief, they are offended as well. My point is simply, if you are offended, "stiffen that upper lip up."

  38. No one has a right to not be offended; it simply doesn't exist. The Constitution GUARANTEES me the right to offend and to use the F-word specifically. See Cohen v. California. In his opinion Justice Harlan famously wrote "one man's vulgarity is another's lyric." As a society we are becoming far too comfortable allowing the PC crowd to dictate what is acceptable speech - it is ALL acceptable, any one person's or group's sensitivities be damned. An example of the aforementioned stupidity is this story where a bi-racial guy was fired because he made unflattering remarks about Michelle Obama. The PC crowd erroneously claimed it was racist. He didn't even use a racist word but now apparently if you use ape in a sentence it is verboten. When unflattering equals racism, we have a problem. Personally, I found some of the apes in Planet of the Apes quite attractive. Then you have Universities with their panties in an uproar and want these words banned because they are deemed offensive: illegal alien, crazy, insane, retarded, “tranny,” ***, gypped, “***,” ghetto, and “*******,” Where does it stop? It doesn't once you start catering to every Tom, Dick, and Harry so as not to offend.

  41. I will say that designing a horn is easy. Designing a great horn is hard, but quite doable. Designing a great horn-loaded system is very difficult. Horns are very unforgiving of non-linearities or inherent distortion in the system. There is a reason that even when designed correctly, many horns have a very distinct "aww" coloration. This is due to an incomplete impedance match typically in slot horns where the slot profile contributes to the sound as much as the horn profile (you're playing a driver through a duct rather than fully horn loading a driver). It's in fact this coloration that gives horns their classic "love or hate" characteristic. These days, few horn designs have this coloration but the stigma remains. The obvious improvements therefore come in the form of improving the evenness of the power response. In other words, design focuses on making sure the off-axis rolloff is indeed exactly as designed in every intended direction. It's this feature that separates the great modern horns from just generic ones used for amplification. This aspect can always be improved, hence horns, phase plugs and drivers will continue to be refined.

  50. "they sure are for pro use as titanium does not work harden as does aluminum alloy." Titanium also work-hardens, and then developes holes in the area of the suspension. Meyer Sound found that aluminum lasted longer in their rental systems than titanium. They bought new titanium JBL 2450's, removed and sold the diaphragm's, and replaced with JBL 2441 aluminum.
