  2. A little volunteer work for Rescue Connect this morning. Took two young Beagles to the vet for spay and neuter prior to adoption. LF went with me. Came home and made blueberry pancakes with bacon and more coffee.....yum! Cloudy and a bit cool today. Been having a Stoli martini with bleu cheese stuffed olives in the afternoon. Need more vodka. Maybe Carl will share his recipe. Cheers Gents

  6. Yes it's Friday. Saterday our daughter is bringing us to a fundraiser for hospice companies in the area, (she's a hospice nurse) it's a crawfish boil. $30 a person to get in and all the crawfish you can eat, 60 different teams boiling as a competition. Last year they boiled 47,000 pounds of crawfish, and there are 3 bands, the first and last is the one I want to hear, I love Zydeco music and Rockin Dopsie and the Zydeco Twisters are going to be there. The bad part is it is expected to rain, so I will dress to be wet and bring the waterproof camera, either way I'm eating a bunch of crawfish. you can only get so wet http://www.hospicefoundationofthesouth.org/crawfish-cookoff-2015/

  7. To Bi amp with a single source such as a receiver probably will not affect anything beneficial since you are drawing from the same transformer to supply the additional power. If you were biamping with a two channel amp to supply power to your woofers while letting the receiver channels provide power for the tweeter it may improve the sound. My two cents.

  8. Dang Ibiza........I bought a factory refreshed Gen 1 XDA-2 a week ago Thursday and it was on my porch in Michigan Monday afternoon. The added bonus was that they shipped me a Gen 2, and I swear it is brand new. Not a single scuff or scratch on this unit...black trim, updated remote and all. Maybe you can hint to them on the phone you are just starting your Emo journey and for your troubles maybe pitch in a pair of RCA's or something. They do have nice cables....hint, hint!

  15. I think the same thing. Then I come to my senses. Happy Friday everyone. I've just about made it through the week post Hope. It was just like the old Wide World of sports, Thrill of Victory and Agony of Defeat, when comparing last week to this one. Oh well, back in to the grind of life. Everyone have a great day, then weekend.

Evac on the hanger yesterday about noon, one of the two "Day Workers" i have, comes running out of the hanger flailing his arms and screaming god knows what (something in Spanish) as he runs past us, the day worker standing next to me takes off running right behind him, i thought he was running after him, turns out he was running WITH him! The word the guy was yelling was WASPS!! Paid everyone for the day and called an exterminator, done. Someday i should really learn a little spanish

  20. So someone with Asthma (me) that has a terrible time in hot & humid weather, could survive Hope in the Spring?Steve This date was good because the pine pollen was washed away by then and will be next year, too. And yes, spring is cool nights low(ish) humidity days.

  23. I'm actually an English, speech, and drama teacher. That doesn't diminish the fact that I love music though. I use it in my lessons as often as possible. :-) Roger, Roger. The bio and the stories on The Joint seem like a great place to start. I may just have to do some personal research as well. I asked my students in each class when I got back Tuesday how many of them had a relative or knew someone who worked at Klipsch. Around 30% of each class I polled. I even geeked out on the chemistry/physics and agriculture teachers Tuesday. Told the chem/physics guy he should work out a field trip to the plant so his kids could see the practicality of physics (and the what? 3-5 other branches of science?) at work there. Sadly, sometimes we teachers don't have enough time to use all the resources that are right at our fingertips.

  24. Bought the Chopin....$26.95 for a fifth. Your method is similar to mine though I usually swirl vermouth in the martini glass to coat the sides, throw out what remains, and put the glass in the freezer. Also garnish with the bleu cheese stuffed olive. Bien! Maybe Christy can make some etched martini glasses.

  25. Mornin' guys. The subject of old Coke machines reminds me of the the cable show American Restoration. They do that sort of thing but very high dollar. Think they are based in Vegas. Definitely seems to be a market for that stuff. I always think about my grocery work days in my late teens filling the pop machines. Glass bottles no less. Colorado is doing its typical spring weather thing ... back to snow for a few days. Shirt sleeves yesterday. Oh well, we need the moisture. Later ............

  26. I've heard of people turning them into gun safes. Restored -- those old coke machines are gold mines. Mark, too bad you’re not closer to me…i have an 80s dollar slot machine that i’m having trouble with. The third reels just keep spinning. I’m not mechanically inclined -- i can’t figure out what to do. I guess i could google it and there is probably a you tube video about this.

  31. I will tell you to bi-amp, and I say this without disagreeing one bit with those with an OPPOSITE opinion. That's because in my readings over the years, it seems in some speakers bi-amping yields a noticeable difference, and with others, no difference at all, so it's not "one size fits all." There are lots of articles which can support or dispel both sides of the argument, in detail. I will leave it with just my conclusion, but I could argue both sides and be correct both ways. The majority or mainstream opinion is, (passive) bi-amping does NOT work. In my living room with my speakers with my AVR with its limited power amp, I can hear a difference, but it's subtle. I hear more detail in the midrange, like the difference in sound between a french horn and trombone. My speakers sound good both ways. See what sound good to your ears.

  32. First off, thanks for this thread. A great read that has brought to me a better understanding of how, and why I listening to music the way that I do. While I make no claim to being an audiophile by any stretch of the definition, I have developed a very particular ear over the years. I have been using an equalizer ever since I purchased my first "true" stereo system back in the early 90's (Yamaha GE-3, which I still have and use to this day). I had for the most part found my "middle ground" settings which I have used with little to no variation for over 20 years. I use(d) the typical sweep pattern - high on the lows, flat to low on the mids, moderately high on the highs, and the loudness feature on my receiver to boost bass response. I now suspect my dependency on equalization is in part due the mastering process, which you have discussed. Low frequencies for me are essential. Since having purchased my RF-7ii's, I have experienced quite a bit of harshness in the high frequencies on certain recordings, typically when switching from live to studio formats, and occasionally between different artists on studio recordings. I didn't experience this with my older (inferior) Kenwood speakers, and find myself frequently readjusting my eq to compensate for this. Something I have not ever had to do. As of late, I have been spending most of my free time cataloguing my >2TB worth of music files. It's been a long and painful process, that I brought upon myself for being lazy in the past. I'm anxious to start the re-mastering experiment once I'm done! Again, thanks for a great read!

  34. If you do try have someone else hook it up and change the setting while your not in the room. Take placebo out of the equation entirely. Go back and forth. If you an pick out the better sound and it happens to be the bi amp then good for you. If not then join the rest of us who don't hear any difference

  37. There are a lot of workers in the factory at HOPE and their output has never teetered - if the quality can be maintained - the prices will keep going up to reflect the high end product - keeping the jobs here in the USA is crucial for the factory and the clientele of Klipsch which see a link between the 2 - a loyal bond , - PWK had a definite friendship with all the factory workers and that is the spirit that still drives Klipsch today - from the bottom to the top , the goal is the same , to maintain a high quality product that is not high end robbery -

  38. Should people unplug their equipment during a thunderstorm? I've never known whether this is an Old Wives' Tale. Should people unplug their equipment during a thunderstorm? I've never known whether this is an Old Wives' Tale. I would if I did not have some protection and homeowners. Certainly non-vital items without protection if going on holiday. So many mundane household items usually cause no problem but, as a rule, I would unplug if not being used.

  39. I can't definitively answer your first question (although I certainly have enough information already to place a bet), at least until I download some tracks from one of the high def online stores and have a look. I plan do this in the near future. Your second question is one that I've been anticipating about for some time now. The answer is of course, "yes", especially the lack of bass below 100 Hz and highs above 7kHz. Almost all phonograph records (vinyl or otherwise) have severe limitations on what can be put on them at the frequency extremes, else the needle jumps out of the groove or otherwise fails to faithfully follow the wiggling spiral groove. The reason for the really big RIAA equalization curve is due to this limitation of phonograph records in terms of recording latitude, analogous to significantly reduced color space in photography. Some people like reduced color space in photography, but I've found most people dislike it and would rather have a bigger color gamut. Once you rip the tracks and correct for equalization, I find that the often stated advantage of analog recordings/format disappears. Don't be alarmed: to me this is only a statement of the generally poor state of mastering practices that are taken for granted in the industry, having little to do with recording medium itself except for the limitations imposed by that medium. In my experience, the reason why phonograph records might sound better than digital discs (to many people) is that they cannot be abused like digital formats--abused in terms of equalization and other forms of "enhancement" using mastering practices. These mastering processes include compression coupled with creative equalization to: 1) always make the tracks sound "louder" on systems without automatic gain controls (i.e., all hand-held digital music players and computers playing digital music now have AGCs), 2) hide recording and mixing errors, or 3) mastering to make the resulting mix sound just like a table radio--all midrange and nothing on the ends of the spectrum. Apparently, few people actually have reasonably good sound reproduction systems - instead using ear buds and mp3 files on iPods. Once you level the playing field by "unequalizaing" digital/digitized tracks, the recovered tracks sound indistinguishable from really good analog tape recorders--except perhaps tape hiss or ticks and pops of a phonograph needle sliding across a record surface. 42. Both the 61II's and the 81II's sound great. If you want a little bit "bigger" sound, then go with the 81II's. Larger room, go with the 81II's, smaller room then the 61II's would work out fine. If $$$ is not an issue, then go for the 81II's. Bill

  44. If you find any cool items that could act as decorations or yard ornaments. Let me know I need something interesting down at the lakes out front of the camper. I am keeping a lot of "weird of no use items" and they will be going to Reno, just really a lot of junk furniture, desks, tarps (rotted), plumbing from the 50s/60s, i am hoping for an old coke machine i remember as a kid, still 60+feet @10' high in places to dig out, god knows what is under this stuff. i just do not wish to get bit by something.
