  3. Today I attended T.H.E. Show Newport. Overall, the Show was fantastic, although horribly over crowded. A few of the multi $$$$$$$$$ rooms were unbelievable, others horrific, overall a great time. My particular interest in the show this year was all horn loaded speaker systems, full range speakers, and open baffles. The horn systems this year were good not great, (probably setup) there were very few full ranger speakers, but a couple very good open baffles. As always, Legacy open baffles were excellent, Magnepan also good but a lot of the same. A nice surprise - Emerald Physics showed up with the KC-II, an open baffle passive hybrid - very similar to my Yield. This is a great looking nice sounding speaker. Nice work EP.. I only spent about 4 hours room hopping, but I got a chance to stop by Justin Webers room. Amps and Sound was paired with Chapman Audio, and VPI - what a great sounding room. The Amps and Sound display consisted of a pair of Casa Blanca mono blocks.....drool... Also on display was one of Justin's head phone amps, and although I am not a headphone guy, I was delighted by the sound. (What headphones were those?) I hope Justin or other members will post some pic's, and links to reviews. I am told www.ampsandsound.com is getting excellent press. Good job Justin... Dave

  6. Keeping on subject. I enjoyed my coffee while wiring up trailer lights on my Jeep Cherokee. I know their not audio cables, but they are wires. Never mind the mess, everything will get tidied up. I need a good vacuuming, as I have been hauling a lot of wood and what not. Now that I have this little trailer, hopefully that won't be much of an issue. And my humble 2 channel camping rig.

  13. You can't rebuild the valves from the back side. Gotta go at them from the front. Oh I thought he was changing the whole contraption, your right, valves are easy...........once you get the right ones. I would bring the old ones with me, they all start to look the same when your looking even if you do know the brand.

  15. Back to the bathroom. I finally have the pipes inside the wall where they belong. Drain pipe is in. I can't put concrete in till my drain comes in so I may start working on the walls while I'm waiting. I'd like to get my hands on the knucklehead that put this in. The copper lines were kinked below the slab and there wasn't a brace anywhere to be found. The copper pipe has a cover to keep the concrete off the pipe when you pour the slab. They had poured concrete in-between the pipe and cover! Pretty much negates having it there to begin with. The section I put in has been wrapped in tape, then covered in plastic so I should be good.

  24. After "winning" a NIB Tang Band W6-1139SG driver on eBay with a low sniped bid, I decided to scratch-build a 25Hz tapped horn sub as first brought to my attention by Carl in: https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/138019-25hz-tapped-horn/ Rather than further hi-jack Carl's thread, I started this thread. The plan is to give this sub to my older son to use with a pair of Heresy I gave him earlier. That way, he can use, or not, use, the sub as the time and proximity of his condo neighbors dictates. Unfortunately, the DIYAudio Group flat packs I used to build 4 earlier examples are no longer available. The dado cuts in the flat packs and the fit of the CNC cut panels made assembly a snap. IKEA furniture is harder to assemble. The wood is cut. While the table saw was out, I also cut the wood for 4 mini-Karlsonator single-drivers, The mini-K wood is in the foreground, the TH wood in the background. Also attached are photos showing the TB driver and the 3.5" driver for the mini-Ks.

  28. I used to ride a Honda 550. They are geared a bit low, but are super smooth. I geared mine to the moon for highway riding, added a handlebar mounted fairing and spent a summer riding from Washington, DC to the Florida Keys. MG, how in the world did you get one in the crate? And HOW is it that you have one, and don't know where it is?

  30. I will have to take some pics. My phone camera is iffy. Both the Dreams are in the restoration stage. My daily rider is a '92 Honda 750 Nighthawk. I grabbed the Dreams since I was looking for something smaller due to age. Picking up the 160 Scrambler this week, but it needs a complete engine rebuild.

  31. The KV-4 arrived on Thursday in perfect shape. It's about as close to brand new as it could possibly be...it actually smells brand new yet. So, I know it wasn't pushed hard or used much previously...which I know it wasn't (actually a really cool story behind this one). Impressions... First off, its huge compared to the RC-62 I had several years ago. It images perfectly with the CF-3s...ran it through Transformers AofE, 9, and Apollo 13 and the front stage is seamless. Dialogue is crisp and clear. With the entire front stage I'd say the sound feels effortless...that is, even cranking the volume it doesnt sound like the speaker is anywhere near its limits. Definitely adds something over using a phantom center setup. I know someone mentioned that it had a hollow type sound to it. That hasn't been my experience at all with it, if anything it sounds tight and clear. Very happy with how this turned out!

  33. I got the same problem TAZ I did not think you had blose I was kidding......But I have always taken care of my stuff and do not see kids these days trying to keep heirlooms nice at all. I got my moms and dads stuff which now is impossible to replace. Some times I think I would rather give it to someone who appreciates it than even sell or give to relatives. But then I run into the problem of finding younger people interested in older stuff. All they seem to want are phones and junk. The fact that people pay 500 for a dam phone just infuriates me. I just can't wrap my mind around it. Then when you talk to them about a 500 dollar speaker they roll their eyes. I'm sooo confused....lol..Rick

  34. Thank you! I have to agree. I'm usually a walnut fan but these have the nicest oiled (curly) oak veneer that I have seen. They rode the Klipsch express up here from Florida and I purchased them from our own Willland who posted earlier. Thanks Bill! These sat for quite a while after I got them due to battle with cancer that I went through but I won that battle and I was finally able to enjoy these wonderful speakers. They've got new crossovers and Ti tweeter diaphragms. I added bronze glass tops and picked up an extra set of grill frames so I could try a nice, vintage looking linen fabric. My flash caused this pic to make them look too white but it is a classic, open weave natural linen fabric that looks very nice in a living room. I still have the risers too but took them off when I was looking at different types of stands to get the tweeters up to ear level. The blocks are rock solid and have worked very well. I have a bit more in these that I meant to invest but I don't regret it. The only reason I am even considering parting with them is that I'd like to build a pair of Cornscalas one day and I don't have the room for both. I could be quite happy with these as my last speaker though. I'll have to sleep on this one if you decide that you may be interested in checking them out. Mark

  36. Without an active electronic XO, bi-amping will send the same amount of power to the Hi's and Lo's. The excess wattage sent to the Hi's will be wasted as heat in the passive XO. A lot of forum members feel that passive bi-amping has no benefit. I have tired passive bi-amping and gave up on it. I tried it with 3 different amps and with an avr.

  37. Ya know I love my little Hersey's......they live right next to there big brothers....ChorusII's.... When someone new comes to the house....it doesn't take them long to say something like "dude what's up with all the speakers" So I tell them it's what I do....so I ask them if they want to listen to them.....most of the time it's hell yea.... I tell them alittle about the speakers and amps, I'll ask them what kind of music they like so they can enjoy the music. I will start of with those little Hersey's.....most of the time there eyes will pop open....cuz they can't belive all that sound is coming out of those speakers. Then we might jump into the LaScala's with a sub or two......then there hooked.....after that I might say are you ready for the BIG sounds......they look at me like....are you for real....... The ChorusII's are called upon powerd by big Carver TFM55x and some other subs might be powerd up....After the jams they say I have never heard and felt music like that..... But it all starts with those little Hersey's......they are a great little speaker for sure..... Now go get ya some Klipsch.....lol lol MKP :-)

  38. After 36 years nothing would surprise her, she has seen some stupid things over that time, it's really the best way. Once on a boat she was lying out sleeping/tanning and a lady was with her mother trying to take a pic of themselves so I offered to help. Before it was over they were each taking pictures with me in the pic telling me they were unsuccessful last night in the bar trying to pick up someone. About this time my wife who was about 20' away looks up laughs and turns over, after it was over I sat back down and she said "go for it", which is what she always says, but I think it's like when Clint Eastwood said " you feel lucky punk", well that's how I take it anyway. Here's how I see it.....if a one, two or three night stand makes you happy...go for it, just let me know that's what you are doing, so I can cook my own dinner! Those women were all over dtel....I just looked up and laughed, I figured they could have a little bit of fun. After 36 years my bet is that you will be back right where you should be, or I will just come find you! Travis, years ago I might have "blown my stack", these days....it's "whatever"! Life is just too short for drama, anger and any of those other ugly emotions. Yes, I'm very excited about you coming on a cruise with us!!!!! Fall and winter are my favorite times of the year to cruise the Western Caribbean...still warm, but not painfully hot!!!!

  39. I agree 100% with Opus's advice. Forte II INMHO has a better midrange with the tractrix horn. I have owned mine for close to 25 years. Allows for a wider soundstage, and less off axis listening. Unless you have a subwoofer in the equation, you will probably be disappointed in the lack of bass with any Heresy version. I am not a bass head by any means. Ray Delguado, excuse spelling of Rays last name if I butcherd; was the head engineer on the extended Heritage line that the Quartet, Forte, and Chorus line fall into. Ray is one very respected engineer. You owe yourself a listen to the forte II and chorus II versions before pulling the trigger on the Heresy. If nothing else it will only validate your decision to purchase the Heresy. Best regards, John

  43. Tell the young man just what you told us and that you have changed your mind having given him years to convince you otherwise. Start looking for someone who cares as you do who shares your values. Perhaps you should become an audio mentor (find some audio nubes who could use and appreciate your experience) and make it your goal to fine the right person to inherit your Khorns. Best regards Moray James.

  44. Morning gang... Working on making the 2nd cup....for me it's going to be a long weekend. Before we left the shop last night me and the wife was looking at the schedule. I said what's up with the red X on Monday? She said it your birthday and I closed the shop.....man I got a good boss:-) So I got some lawn work planed, gonna cut the grass and suck up some leaves......almost done with the leaves..... Got plans to fire the grill up....man I love the grill... So this plumbing thing......ahhhhhhh.....I don't do plumbing!! I fix cars, make money and pay my plumber buddy....lol lol I don't do most stuff around the house.....I don't like it and if I don't like it I don't do it....plus if I take the money I can make at the shop per hour.....it doesn't make sense for me to fool with the house stuff. Now I do like working in the yard, I find it relaxing riding my tractor cutting my weeds.... Ok guys....wishing all a great weekend.. MKP :-)

  45. Cloudy here this morning but should clear up by noon. Back from breakfast. Ate at the bar with the regulars. Two eggs over medium, 3 slices of bacon, potatoes. Half way through the cook/owner puts a plate in front of me with two more strips of bacon. He said my slices were a little puny Jake fed and walked. LF has her niece (29) and niece's friend (28) staying with her for the weekend. Says they are lookers but I haven't seen then Hope everyone has a fun weekend and as always.... Cheers Ladies and Gents

A few years back a customer really pi$$ed my wife off ..long story ....like I had to tell her to leave the office, that's how bad it was.....so the the guy is standing in front of me not saying a word.....So I say...." sir let me tell you how my shop runs.....this is MY shop and I run this shop....but you have just pi$$ed off the president of this company, and the press happens to be my wife. So when we get home tonight I'm going to see if I'm still working on your car this week....if she says NO...then I will call you to get a tow truck for your car"!! 49. Well, at least a couple of us simply said "That was easy..." King K'horn wins again. Palladium is wonderful speaker, but the required violations of PWK fundamental rules required to get that level of sound quality from a form factor that small radically increases costs and the result is, as he predicted, good but not optima. The RF-7 is wonderful as well, but simply not in a class with the K'horn for the same reasons. The Klipsch engineers are the best and they know PWKs rules by heart. That's why when they break them they have specific marketing reasons to do so and do so at the minimum required to reach those aims. Dave
