  2. Got my 13 year old Autistic son to the surgery center this morning. It turns out that the Autism school he attends was playing with soybeans for some tactile stimulation and either he or one of his class mates shoved a soybean in his right ear up to his ear drum. the ENT Doctor had tried last night, but it was clear up against the bone and he had to put him under. Everything turned out ok thank god, but I hope the school plans on picking up the bill the next time Roger

  3. Yea I could have posted this in "what I got Today" but this thing is soooo cool I just had to give it it's own thread.... As some of you my know my wife and I own a autoshop. We have had the shop for 17+ years now. I've been a mechanic for close to 34 years now.... I love tools...I love the shiny wrenches all neatly lined up in my tool box. Everything has it's place in my tool boxes. I have two older Mac MB 1700 tool boxes with matching side cabs...all together they measure right about 12' long... I have as much in those boxes as my 1st house cost me back in the early 90's.... and that's not counting the other equipment I have... So really my tool buying days are over....the things I do buy are several hundred dollars a time... I can't spend $700 a week on tools... So I will buy a few new things a year... I've been looking at this thing called "The Mini Ductor"..... It heats nuts and bolts up with no flame. It uses magnetic field to heat the object. It'll get a 14mm bolt cherry red in about 20 seconds. It has different size coils that you put around the bolt or what ever your heating up. It also has a long lead that you can wrap around bearings. It came UPS today.... I opened it up and checked it out....looked really cool. I put it on the bench and figured I would play with it later after I finished the radiator job on this Civic I was working on. Well what do you know, there was a small 10mm bolt that was rusted stuck...It was going to snap off. I hooked up one of the small coils pluged the unit in and pressed the little red button. With in 10 seconds the bolt was smoking....held it there for another 10 seconds and it loosend right up with my wrench. Yea this thing it the shitt... and I got to use it again on the alternater belt adjuster that was frozen up... Hmmmmmmm .....magnetic field.... I wonder I Bob Carver had anything to do with this....lol lol Trying to load pics....give me a minute.. MKP :-)

  4. Is it OK to refer to Klipsch audio in this thread? As I sit working at the computer, I'm enjoying California by John Mayall via Spotify. The nearfield sound quality of these Promedia 2.1 speakers continues to amaze me. They'e almost like a good pair of headphones, but without the headache.

  5. I just realized (and did some research to verify) that this July is when Mike & I first ordered our Jubilee's and this coming August will be the 10th anniversary of ownership. I guess Mike will have to do a 3,650 days of ownership review... I'll just say that they still rock!

  6. Headed out to play some Yahtzee at my bud's house today. Finishing up my Peet's coffee pods and will pick up a fresh bag of 8 O Clock while I'm out. Warm and sunny out today and plan to make the best of it and hope to play our Yahtzee outside and soak up some rays. Hope everyone enjoys the nice weather while it lasts.

  12. and i give you credit for that Zen. I wish more people would use such restraint. I read recently about a guy that kept a journal. He said that he had been going back and reading what he wrote 20 years ago. While remembering the events that he wrote about, he was very surprised at how much his memory had changed them because sometimes the details that he wrote about on day one are much different than he remembers them today.

  13. similar thing happened to one of my kids when they were young (about 6 years old). stuck a bead in her ear and the ER doc couldn’t get it out. i’ll never forget before they put her under, she was hugging her stuffed animal. I asked her if she was scared, she said “no; but, my bear is a little scared."

  14. Thanks Guys.... I thought alot of you would dig it... I was so pleased the day I got it it was use within 20 minutes of opening it up... I figured it would stay in the tool box before I got a chance to really put it to use.. Cool pics Fjd.... Yea Bob is the man...I got a few of his creations at the house....and I got one of his amps at the shop that power's the Klipsch mustang guy.... I got it from National Tool Warehouse.... I do like to buy my goods from my local tool guys....but I'm sorry It was almost $200 bucks less @ the Tool warehouse! I was surprised when it showed up yesterday.... I showed my wife -AKA- MKP's BOSS...What I wanted to get... (I must start planting the seed).... asked her to start shopping around.... Well hell she didn't just shop around..... she ordered it and didn't tell me. It just showed up. So check it out...... My wife gets me tools...wants to get Klipsch speakers and Carver amps.... and she's doing all the planing for the trip to Hope...Yup been together for 25 years now DizRotus..... I don't know what the range is for danger of the jewelry thing.... I don't wear any....not even a wedding band... Yea JL Sargent..... One of the main reasons I wanted one is for manifold/cat converter jobs.. I was doing a cat converter on a Honda Pilot last week. It was the rear converter there a real pain to do. I've done them before but this one really beat me up. There are four nuts that hold the converter to the cylinder head. The cylinder head has four studs in it. These were soooo tight and stuck I was thinking I might be braking a stud this time... I was thinking I have got to get one of those Mini Ductor's. I was thinking just alittle bit of heat would free these frozen nuts.... and there's no getting a torch in there.. Well I ending up NOT braking anything but I knew I had to get one of those things. So yea..... bring on those rusted nuts and bolts.... and those sized bushings..... cuz I'm ready for em MKP :-)

  15. Just that's extremely nasty smelling, and rags highly flammable. The Watco product has been used by dozens of us over years of experience with very good success. I brought back to life a set of Klispchorns that had been in a storage space for 7 years and were about as dry as I can imagine. Took about 4 good goings over. DO NOT OVERAPPLY the product in any single application or you will have a gummy mess. It can be resolved by applying more product as a thinner for removing the gum, but best just to apply to lint-free rag and go lightly. It's all the rubbing that does the job, by forcing the product into the pores and smoothing the wood grain. There is no substitute for a lot of loving elbow grease in a project like this.

  16. Dr. Bill's (not me) recipe': *remember fire hazard* BLO heats up as it dries so any rags and whatnot should be thouroughly washed with water and soap and disposed of safely...preferrably outside... the Drs. recipe' IIRC: 3 parts Gum Turpentine to 1 part BLO...I found mine at Home Depot but should be able to find anywhere...good luck but wanted to share...Do only in a well ventilated area... Bill

  21. Very neat tool, but, from the warnings about metal rings piercings, etc., somewhat scary. What's the range of influence? I can't get my wedding band over my ancient knuckle. If I were to use it with my right hand would the ring on my left hand get hot, or even warm? Speaking of loosening stuck nuts, perhaps USNRET's urologist could have used one of those. :-) Chuck, from Better Call Saul would hate that thing.

  22. Watco Rejuvenating Oil is very similar to the dreaded BLO product originally used at the Klipsch factory. Shake gently before application, use several thin coats vs one heavy coat for a better (non-gummy) finish. READ THE DIRECTIONS - it's a fantastic product. Make sure to get the uncolored type, they have some with stain in them as well. If there are deep scratches in the veneer, you might try a colored Old English oil first to bring back the entire surface to the same color and fill scratches, buff off, let dry, then follow with the Watco.

  23. The hinge is just a gate hinge welded to angle iron to change the mounting point since the hinge point is higher than the mounting point. The latch is a car door latch and can be controlled with a cable release. The frame is 4.5" by 2" extruded aluminum. I'll try and get some better pics. Hope this helps.

  24. My Silver Ticket screen came in and I've assembled it but have not yet mounted it to the wall. Seems to be a nice screen and a great value. I got it from Amazon and it was one of those used "open box" buys -- stated to have no defects other than damaged packaging. With free shipping, I paid $164 after sales tax. it is pretty big at 138" diagonal. As noted in reviews, installation instructions are not great but it wasn't too hard to figure out how to put it together. Overall, pretty satisfied with purchase. I don't know how the performance will be once I project an image on it (still deciding on projector) but the reviews state it is comparable to most other screens priced much higher so I'm fairly sure it will do just fine. Here it is fully assembled.

  25. I used to use BLO cut with 1/3 paint thinner but have changed over to Watco Danish oil (natural). Much less smell and the finish turns out nice! Watco saved the old look of the BLO finish. To back up a bit... I would not use water to clean wood! You can clean by wiping with a cloth soaked with paint thinner. For the crayon markings you might try magic eraser. Watch your rags that they don't catch fire. I throw mine in a bucket of water outside.

  26. Find you a used professionally rebuilt HH Scott or Fisher 7189/EL84 integrated amplifier and forget about it. Don't be fooled by the eBay ads gone over by some unknown technician those amps are usually just ban-aid fixed to play music long enough for the seller to pry the maximum money out of your wallet. Watch this website garage sale page or Audiokarma.org barter town. Sometimes deals in your budget pop up.

  33. you should go...you earned it. i waited nine years before going to file a claim...VA rated me at 60%, strangely denying a condition that was diagnosed at a VA hospital. I live in pain everyday...so now i’m happy to be getting some return on this daily pain. can’t sleep more than a couple hours at a time. i’m still fortunate after i walk the halls of a VA hospital.

  36. One more and I will stop. 1970's I go in to see a USN O-6 dentist and have an extraction that required sutures and was advised to come bck the next day to have them removed. OK, I'm an E-5 and he's an O-6; roger. I get them removed and UPPED for flight duty. Next thing I know I am launched on a mission that requires a steep approach from high altitude and low and behold I burst a hole from my sinus cavity into my mouth due to pressure change. I get medivac'd and this same USN Capt scolds me for having the stitches removed too early. I got a foil wrapped sinus cavity and a skin graft inside my mouth. Liquid diet for a while. As I get older I wonder why I never, ever visited the VA to register and apply for disabilty for numerous things upon retirement as I thought that life just brings crap to you but then I see some folks that claim out and out BS and want a parking spot because of a 10% hearing loss or some sheet.

  37. Here's the bright side. I've had them chiseled out with hammers, root canals, all of it. Love it. I am a nitrous freak and my dentist is truly outstanding. I've had him banging on teeth he was trying to get out and felt and heard the crunching and collapse of bone. He'd pause and ask if I were OK. Response was "Is that all you've got?" Never go to a dentist that doesn't use gas. Dave

  41. Honestly, when you consider exchanges with him it does give credence on Klipsch's stance on not allowing political discussions on the main forum....Someone mentioned the car wreck analogy before and honestly I think those conversations/debates are important, but once started hard to stop/hard to keep away from and someone's feelings will be hurt....Look at all of the people who complain and don't realize the secret is not to click on those threads. Then again, once engaged it is addicting.
