  1. Greetings everyone, Good to be here & hope all of you are doing well. Just picked up a pair of Belle speakers. Decided to pair it with one my monster receiver a Realistic 2100D which turned out to be a very, very nice pairing. Seems to be pushing these Belle's with ease and the sound is so smooth with good detail. Not a lot but pretty good. Bass is adequate while the horns on this speaker is just killing me softly. So damn smooth. Better than my Mach ones. I listen to a lot of jazz so I knew when these came up for sale I'd have to give it a try. Still getting used to horns but these are definitely changing my perception of them. Pics soon. Thank for the read.

  4. Since most of the US is under this hot zone, be careful out there. Wednesday our low temp was 48, today we will have a heat index over 100. That's a huge temp increase. It will take me a while to get used to this heat, if I ever do! My daughter's graduation open house is today, high school just flew by, will college also? Have a great weekend

  5. Thanks guys for the warm welcome.Pic indeed. Here you go. I must confess that I've never been fond of modern Klipsch speakers as I auditioned them against many others. They were a tad to bright and forward sounding. What made me go out on a limb and try these without hearing them I don't know. They were sort of calling out to me. More so from something inside of me that said "BUY THESE!". Much like the Wharfedales Denton's I bought. I'm two for two.

  6. I've had a pair of forte IIs from new and no weirdness nor bass shy, even with the old Yamaha 40 watt integrated. If you buy a recommended used car, but get one with problems, you may also wonder why others raved about it. Get a good one and you understand. Sometimes it is as simple as the particular ones you get, you know, like women. Many rave about them, but if you get a lemon it can taste sour....

  7. Just to make some feel normal, this is what you do when out of options with a 6 hour drive one way and really need want them. Surprised we didn't get pulled over. But to go with the inside of the vehicle idea Cornwall lll's in there boxes will fit it that same jeep with the back seat down, very little room to spare. 2000 Jeep Cherokee. Forte ll's easily in the back, had heresy's in the back for car speakers for a long time but that took to much space to be convenient but it did sound good.

  10. I found a few aspects of your post that I have "bolded" that caught my eye. Typically, lower level listening (65 dB - 75 dB) allows more detail appreciation than listening at very loud levels (90 dB - 100 dB) primarily due to the impact of the Fletcher-Munson curve and equal-loudness contours where the midrange is accentuated and bass / mid bass is de-emphasized. Fletcher-Munson curve In addition, once placement issues are addressed, the Forte series speaker (e.g., I and II) tends to be more difficult to drive in the frequency region below 200 Hz vs. something like the Khorn, La Scala or Heresy; and as the impedance of a speaker dips in certain regions of the overall impedance curve, the amplifier needs to deliver more “current.” Many vintage receivers, new budget receivers and budget amplifiers can become very anemic in the sub-200 Hz range when asked to deliver enough current to properly drive an impedance load around 3.5 ohm. Many of the vintage receivers would have difficulty driving 4 ohm loads; unless you went TOTL and even some of those would have difficulty. The HK430 isn't rated for impedance below 4 ohm; and for example, TOLT Marantz 2325 rated power of 125 watts per channel is not recommended for 4 ohm speaker impedance loads. Although, the Emotiva mini x has both an 8 ohm and 4 ohm rating, while the company has disclosed 8 ohm as 50 watts / channel RMS; continuous into 8 ohms; 20 Hz - 20 kHz; the company has conveniently omitted the frequency response range where 4 ohms can be handled and only discloses 80 watts / channel RMS; continuous; into 4 ohms (we don't know if that means it can only handle 4 ohms from 1,000 Hz through 10,000 Hz or some other range that does not stress the amp like the bass frequency range can stress an amp). Forte II impedance curve Heresy impedance curve La Scala impedance curve Khorn impedance curve There is a good chance that "harsh" is source related as there are many crap recordings on the market. Regarding "shallow" I believe that Deang and willand have outlined a couple of points that I excerpted below that can be significant impediments causing "shallow." Regarding "no punch" you will need an amplifier that can generate enough current to drive the impedance curve portion that is below 4 ohms satisfactorily, along with the portions that hover between 4 ohms and 8 ohms; and that listening experience will also probably require additional volume than the 65 dB or so listening level to overcome the Fletcher-Munson curve. If you have tone controls or equalizer controls, you can give it a bass boost in that area to help overcome the Fletcher-Munson curve for lower level listening. Also, I'm not aware of any Norah Jones music that is significant to the area of the impedance curve in question. Regarding "Heresy speakers sounding more dynamic," the Heresy speaker has a very benign impedance curve that can be driven by most any amplifier/receiver that even remotely has a hint of quality built in. Given the impedance curve of the Forte series, listening distance, and spacing of speakers, none of his receivers/amplifiers would be on my "recommended component" list for Forte speakers. I've listened to a lot of the vintage Harman Kardon receivers and amplifiers over the years and while many were “high current” designs, and noting that the HK430 should be satisfactory on a pair of Khorns or La Scalas, and excellent for a pair of Heresy speakers, given the Heresy benign impedance curve, it would not be at the top of my list of recommend components for the Forte series due to the impedance curve of the Forte dipping below 4 ohms for most of the 100 Hz through 200 Hz frequency range. In relation to the Harman Kardon vintage HK series of receivers, even the HK730 receiver isn't rated for 4 ohms and it was a significant step up from the HK430 design; and totally different as the HK730 used a complementary symmetry amplifier design. I believe that many people confuse the HK430 with the HK730; however, the HK430 actually has much more similarity to the HK330 than it does to the HK730. I believe that the HK330 and the HK430 are basically the same as they both used the same circuit board except that the HK430 tuner circuit board has FM muting section populated, the HK330 does not; and the HK330 has only one power transformer on the 20W rated HK330. .

  12. Full disclosure: I'm an owner of a pair of Forte II (bought new). I've used literally dozens of various amplifiers/receivers with them over the past 26+ years. My speakers have served in many different sized rooms of all kinds of shapes. Never once have I or any other listener complained about "shy" bass response. Their brilliant versatility is exactly why I chose the Forte II back in 1990 when I was picking a "rest of my life" speaker from the Heritage lineup consisting of Cornwall/Chorus/Forte/Quartet, etc. In my experience, and from decades of reading opinions on this forum, I believe the Forte II is the easiest Klipsch design for the majority of listeners to live with in real-world (ie non-audiophile) situations combined with real-world (ie non-audiophile) choices in electronics. Their measured response goes lower (32Hz) than just about every other Klipsch speaker of their generation and the Tractrix midrange horn eliminates beaming, honking, and all other complaints typically thrown at Klipsch speakers and horn designs in general. I have found them to be far less room-dependent, electronics-dependent, and cable-dependent than any other speaker I've owned. In short, they are the perfect speaker...for me, an ordinary average guy. In fact, my love for my Forte IIs and their phenomenal ruggedness and all-purpose utility prompted me to write about them for the Storyteller contest Klipsch held 15 years ago. My story was judged by none other than Billy Bob Thornton and Henry Rollins. It won second place. My story was proof: I have great speakers. Having said that, I believe you might have a bad set of Crites crossovers. Everything else has been covered by other comments above, but it should be pointed out that if your room isn't the culprit, and your electronics are functioning normally, and phase, drivers, or wiring issues can be ruled out, then a crossover issue is all that is left. I have Crites crossovers on my Forte II. When installed, the bass response was unchanged. I got smoother midrange, clearer treble, and an overall sensitivity gain of a dB or two. But my bass stayed exactly the same. Recommendation: contact Bob Crites and ask for help. I have no doubt that he will work with you to make sure you have a good set of the correct crossovers in your speakers. In the meantime, try reinstalling the original Klipsch crossovers and see what happens. Good luck.

  17. A funny addendum. In the course of my purchase of these fine speakers I excitedly loaded them as fast as a tortoise. It was a one man show. Do you know how HEAVY these speakers are to move by yourself? Had to rent a uhaul with the dolly made to move fridges. No help whatsoever. Took THREE hours that would have taken one with help. Yeah, I'm either a weakling or overly cautious. I did take the back roads avoiding freeways thus having an excuse to travel 25mph. Lol. Anyway as I was getting ready to connect these speakers up I noticed two screws that attatch the speaker wire missing on one of them! Panick sets in. Here is something that made it 30+ years and in my care I lost two screws. Oh, man I crawled all over the floor, garage called the rental place to have them look inside the van. I went back to the sale and there they greeted me again asking what's wrong. I told them the truth. "I'm missing a few screws". The ladies laughed. Then I told them what I was looking for. By the luck of the God that looks over people looking for their loose screws I found it against the floor boards. Phew! I had a lucky day.

The Titanium tweeter diaphragms were first and they cleared up the raspiness of the old and worn original diaphragms...I thought that alone made these pretty good and thought that would be enough...right... I hadn't intended to do the crossovers as the cost more than the speakers would sell for BUT now the speakers sound articulate and airy...no, I don't think these will replace Heresys, Quartets or Chorus lls that I have (all now have upgraded crossovers and all but the Heresys have the Titanium tweeter modification from BEC/Bob Crites) but they sure sound nice and FAR cleaner and clearer than they did before...maybe even better than new since the new diaphragms go higher and cleaner... Bob informed me that mine are the first kg2 purpose built new Xovers he has built...cool... Being difficult for me to compare back to back a stock KHorn with my Fastlane Elliptrac KHorn with extreme slope networks I was able to listen to a new stock KHorn in the listening room at Hope. In that room I found the stock horns to be much more forward and in your face than mine. But again I was sitting much closer than at home, I listen to tubes amps vs. an inexpensive SS integrated used at Hope so environments are varied for sure. But I find my Horns very smooth, no bite at all and a huge soundstage across a full 22 foot front. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with a better damped and larger mouthed Fastlane horn.
