  7. Time for some John Wick 2. The speakers are on either side of the screen. They blend into the darkness but there is no issue hearing them.

  13. If I were king, leaf blowers would be outlawed . . . but then, only outlaws would have leaf blowers. Seriously, they're NOISY and merely move the leaves. Typically, a lawn service guy blows them from the client's yard to the neighbor's yard. Wait, now it's becoming clear. A lawn service then charges the neighbor to blow the leaves back to the original yard. If we tag the leaves like pigeons, we'll see that the same leaves are blown back and forth all season. It's a form of job security. Personally, I don't hire a service, I can leaf well enough alone.

  15. I'll do you one better, I'm Mat Weisfeld, owner of VPI, this was the last project that ran before I took over. I tried to kill it before it happened (I was too late) and moving forward I've done next to nothing to market it, you'll notice that it isn't even on our website. I've also opening shared this information on our forum and others Forget the comparison to the Scott, look at it as more of a unicorn collectible product inspired by the Scott that you will never see from us again. The main reason is that I don't know amps, at least not like the experts in electronics and amps are. Companies should have and keep their focus. VPI making a tube amp doesn't stick with our focus of making turntables and components that work with turntables. The reason is because of exactly what was mentioned about the amp, the components are made overseas and we certainly are not hiding it. It is assembled here by VAS but you will notice the "Made in America" part of our logo was removed. I can proudly say that was my only real contribution to this unit. Essentially, it was too late for me to stop the project but I made sure the "Made in America" portion of the logo came off. When I took over VPI we had 100 units. I believe we still have about 10-15 units left. To me I couldn't tell you the difference between the circuitry of the Scott or any other amp. (Also I personally prefer solid state but that is another story). The origin was that we have a guy, we called him Black Market Richie since he always bring in old cool equipment, he came by the factory with a Scott. (side note: that man has sold us one too many reel-to-reel players if anyone needs ) Harry fired up the Scott with a Classic 4 in our original listening room (which is now my office ) and Steve (from VAS) and him were blown away. Harry and Steve got to talking and Steve from VAS went to work. From there the 299D was born. All of that aside and regardless of my protest, the unit does sound and look great for the money. While the parts were sourced globally they are assembled here, properly tested, and if we did make this product here it would easily retail for 6K (or more). I used one in my home for awhile and was blown away with the performance over other units I had that were triple the price. Long term I hope Steve at VAS continues making this product under his own brand and I will gladly recommend it. It is easy to use, diverse, reasonably priced, and sounds fantastic. Regardless of the internal workings, the Scott 299D inspired the creation of this unit. I hope this clears up some of the confusion -MW

  18. Saw this one in the theater and agreed with an earlier comment that the fbombs felt like a new toy since they hadn't been used to date. More realistic? Probably, they can do what they want. I really liked the devastation Prof X could cause with his mind, for the reasons put forth (ahem - don't want to spoil it). I didn't care for the method for his condition by the end (is that vague enough to not completely ruin it?). It felt quite anti climactic for that character, but it's xmen... They can simply jump to a new timeline and do it again differently at any time.

  21. No problems with my tube amp but, I have a few pro amps that will make the speakers pop upon turning off. This occurs if the amps are cut off automatically. Manual cutting the amps off does not cause this problem. Others have reported using a power strip or console to cut every thing on or off with the annoying pop. To my knowledge, the pop does not damage the speakers or amp.

  22. Mine do too. I always turn the volume down before shutting amps and preamp off.

  23. Usually I find trash or varnish build up in the small fuel passages. I'll take a pieces of stranded copper wire and pull one strand out to use as a cleaner. It's small enough and stout enough to clean the passages then you can blow some aerosol carb cleaner through to get the remainder.

  26. No one promotes anything anymore - there's no need. Everyone here knows who does what. It has nothing to do with being "weak at heart" (cowardly), it's simple economics - I would have to sell and build 350 sets of networks a year to equal my current salary. Sometimes you can be a real jackass.

  27. Thanks Deang for the kind words, I used regular RTV for the coils just to get things tested. Will strap them down per your suggestion after I know I didn't goof anything up.

  28. Theoretically the reason not to run two centers is because you have two tweeters and two tweeters introduce lobing. I don't know how much this is a problem in real life but I imagine it is because if it wasn't there would be more dual center speakers. http://audiojudgement.com/speaker-lobing-polar-response/

  29. Yes. If you use a tablesaw or router to cut full length slots on all 4 sides, you will see holes in the corners. If the box is small enough that the 1/4" plywood bottom only needs to be supported on 2 sides, you can hide the holes fairly easily: Either align the slots with the pin sockets and slot the tail boards, or align the slots with the tail sockets and slot the pin boards (see pic). If you want to slot all 4 sides and avoid corner holes, you'll have to stop the slots short of the ends on either the tail or pin boards. For this, the router is a better choice. If you've never dovetailed a box before, plan to practice.

  31. For me, the question is what will i get tomorrow. USPS tried to deliver a package to me, registered. they left a note saying i could pick it up at the post office tomorrow morning. i went on their website and put in the tracking number; but, it doesn’t show the sender. it shows it arriving at ISC New York on June 15, the next line says it went to Customs. I have absolutely NO idea what this could be. I haven’t ordered anything outside of the USA. And the sender has my NEW address, which very few people have. I hate mysteries; but, i have to wait until tomorrow to find out what it is. Maybe some British Rock Star got tired of his guitar and passed one on to me? wishful thinking.

  33. I think my fuel is all gas (non ethanol). Better be for the price. Anyway I watched a youtube video or two on hard to start blowers. It could be pilot error as I'm not holding the throttle/trigger in while starting as shown. The video said to prime 5 times even if there is gas in the bulb. With that in mind I tried it again and after several pulls it started. I did not dare cut it off and let it dance around on the porch floor for awhile. The grass has been cut but it started raining before I could blow off everything In case you're wondering I am not mechanically inclined

  35. I mean this very sincerely when I say "thank you" for posting them here first. You are right about Klipsch enthusiasts posting here and I can say without hesitation they will be appreciated by whoever gets them. They do look a bit rough but you've been very honest about how they were used and their condition. That will help your sale. The real advantage to selling them here is you don't have to deal with Craigslist. There are really good people here who I would not hesitate to do business with. I'm in West Virginia so I will not be a buyer, but I wish you GLWYS.

  36. OK. So I'm the one who set this guy up. I'm sure I will get some smart a$$ comments but this big setup was for not sitting very far away and being at a seated position right in front. I made a custom center with twin eminence 15's, 6.5" BC driver and a horn tweeter. Eminence 3 way crossover. The size of the center is to match and be between the two KPT 684's laying down. He loved this center channel and put all the electronics on top of the speakers. Sitting 8 feet away in a recliner was an absolute destroyer. The Xii's and the K402 are not for sale....so don't ask.

  41. Nikko Alpha amps from the mid-70s to the early-80s pair amazingly well with many speakers including Klipsches. With hundreds of watts, the attenuator rarely gets past 9 o'clock with Klipsch. Vocals are lifelike and crystal clear. A good Alpha 220 sells in the $200+ range on eBay, Craigslist, etc. rock-solid reliable, too. Mine have been running for 35 years without issue. Nikko's top Beta preamps (and top Gamma tuners) are also amazing. They also happen to be the same vintage as my Cornwalls. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
