  1. I just got a text from Chuck's lady friend. They are both fine although they are a bit worried about possible flooding at Chuck's house. LF says her house is on higher ground and should be alright. I'm hoping to hear from Chuck this weekend providing he has a line to call out on.

  2. I don't blame people for not wanting to leave, I never want to leave either. But I would never expect someone to risk their life because i was willing to risk mine. Reminds me of an old joke.................please don't make this religious or political, it's just a way of heard headed thinking There was a storm once and everything flooded up the roofs of houses. One man sat on his roof, it was very hot but he said god would save him. 3 boats passed and two helicopters in the next couple of days , he told them all you go ahead god will save me. A few days passed and he died, as he got to heaven he ask god why didn't you save me,I prayed and depended on you ? He was told I tried, I sent 3 boats and a helicopter we couldn't force you !

  3. Photo from around noon today. The retirement home is still standing! About 36 hours more of rain. We'll see what happens next. Photo taken by a friend who decided to ride it out. so far so good. Best wishes to everyone in NC and SC. Cincy

  4. That's an understatement, last night it was reported they were rescuing people from low areas where there was a mandatory evacuation. I would guess the only reason they went out to get them was because it was only a cat 1, there is no reason to risk sending rescuers out to risk people's lives to save the terminally stupid. I know it sounds terrible but it's true. In South louisiana, the part that sticks out in the gulf as a peninsula, there was a mandatory evacuation. When the stupid people who didn't leave called to be rescued they were told sorry we can't send someone until the storm passes. Now for the old or anyone who had no way to leave they went and picked them up before the storm , they actually went door to door telling people to get out, the stupid or hard headed people who decided to stay got the chance to experience a hurricane up close. Bet they listen next time, if not they deserve to get whatever happens to them. Sorry, but it's true, why should someone with a family of their own willing to help rescue and save people which is dangerous enough risk their lives during a storm, to save someone who thought they knew better.

  5. It's all in one's own personal choice....nothing more. Heck, I feel the same way about some of that way out there "exotic" veneer some people put on their speakers, too. People are going to like what they like.

  6. I was really concerned about how close Chuck was to the water and the fact that he was staying. One of the things I told him was not to go into his attic to avoid rising water without bringing tools needed to break through the roof to escape.

  8. Very nice, I always wanted one but never could justify the cost, they are good no doubt but far from where they started with pricing . I am sure quality and performance improved along the way also but the price jumped, deservedly , I don't know how each compares. Either way they are very nice and the best thing they had going for them was great customer service, this is in most cases worth a higher price. Part of the reason it aggravates me so much that Klipsch is very lacking in that department, we tried to get that word to them (from our personal experience) and nothing ever changed, it's all that is missing from being an exceptional company, and i really hope that changes.

  10. @Jeff Matthews - I believe it. and 100% agree on all points. makes me shake my head at some people... as I'm sure there are those who watch me & do the same. I hope my decisions do not have the potential life changing impact on OTHERS though. saw a note on the "crawler" on a weather network that the Cajun Navy is asking for additional volunteers for more help in the Carolinas. probably illustrates one or more of your points right there.

  11. Believe it or not, a lot of the rescues are made by private citizens. A lot of people like to help others in times of need and aren't concerned with passing judgment at the time. Different people are equipped differently, have different skills and are willing to take different levels of risk. This all calculates into the equation.

  12. just my $.02 worth. they DO make these choices at their own peril. there is a little to be said for Darwinism... and sometimes seems like Darwin needs a little help.

  13. This actually happened over here with Harvey last year. It happens on every storm. People stay. If they are unlucky, they will get help if weather and conditions permit. They make this choice at their own peril.

  16. I've made that shift already. The listening sound quality improvement is noticeable by flattening the phase curve (and its resulting group delay). ...but that's a subject for another thread. (Perhaps I'll start one on that subject soon.) Chris

  17. Some people are clueless. I saw a news report in Hawaii of some Asian lady who flew in to Oahu for vacation about 24 hrs before the hurricane was supposed to hit Honolulu. She was surprised the news crews were there and when they asked her about it she said, "I didnt know anything about a hurricane!". We drove around much of the island and there were about 10 buildings total that bothered to put any sandbags or board up any windows to prepare. The scariest thing was all the local 'tent towns' right on the beach that would have been annihilated if it had actually hit.

  21. Yea but up to date in the era of "green" this and "smart" that, I should have insisted we bought a pair of `72 small block Novas at an auction. Went to the dealership to get it fixed and they told me about the alternator not charging the battery. Ticked me off so bad that the reason has been deleted from my brain to alleviate headaches. But she ONLY wants Honda......... Like I ONLY want Klipsch Heritage!

  22. Most cars these days have power outlets that will charge cell phones. I keep a sealed AGM 12v battery like they use for trolling motors charged up in case of an extended power outage used to power my c-pap machine for up to a week. I am deathly afraid to go to sleep without it. +++ Friday Noon: I just saw where HUNDREDS of people are in attics and on rooftops waiting for rescue. HOW is this possible? Did they not notice everybody in their town was gone, and there was no food in the grocery store?

  23. 2 in 315,000,000. I don't own a cell phone either. Cell phones are so passé. Chuck, like myself, probably has moved on to more cutting edge technology. Look into the future below.

  24. cell phones today, have those slim batteries, in fact, the phone itself is a computer, it seemed to me, that a good 20v lithium ion battery could easily be utilized to provide power, in extended instances, I pictured just buying a belt clip, using a cable and two adapters from your belt to where ever, and you're back in business.... looking at the Dewalt page, they even have a wifi set-up (what will they think of next) I thought their radio was pushing it when that came out a few years ago...

  26. The way I see it, it's not form OVER function, it's good quality form AND good quality function. Klipsch has always valued the outside finish of their speakers, that's why they offered speakers in multiple finishes. Black was less expensive, there were the common veneers Oak, Cherry, Walnut, and exotic veneers such as rosewood for which the customer paid a premium. Do you think PWK was silly to think this way? I don't.

  34. Working a little long today so I needed some thunder from down under to get me through it. This 10th anniversary vinyl of the classic self titled album by Wolfmother is amazing. Very lively. Including artwork by Frazetta is just icing on the cake for me.

  35. Havent been in the office much this week and if I was I was watching Netflix's "Ozark". That was a great series and Jason Bateman was amazing as always. As for spinning some records I really only listened to one and that was Coheed and Cambria's 'Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV, Volume 1: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness'. I was never really into Emo but this album has always been one of my favorites and was always a favorite of mine when prepping the Chinook for a mission.

  36. Always loved these and wished i could do it. There are 50 of these along the Mississippi Gulf coast from trees left over from the hurricane. The biggest is the largest carved eagle in the world at 17'. Wish i had even half of that skill.

  37. No, not the band that did the sound track for "The Dirt Gang." The pepper harvest is abundant this year. I have a couple of special edition sauces to offer. The first is called Yellow Peril, and uses 7 pot peppers. It packs some heat, with a bright flavor using ginger and garlic, finished with lime juice and Hawaiian sea salt. The second is Red Menace, from Arkansas Ghosts, which hasn't been made yet, but will be soon. Sizes are subject to custom order. Prices are in line with previous pricing.

  40. I have a RW10 for the sub and used it. Sound was hollow and disconnected without it. I realize it's a very small enclosure but my Polk 5 channel surround bar sounds so much fuller & lifelike. Hooked the bar up directly to my Carver M1.0t thinking the Sony DA188ES Receiver might be the issue. Still sounded like a pair of Bose Cubes to me. Maybe it's defective. Called Crut......d. & explained my problem, they said send it back. Have always been satisfied with their customer service. Already noticed that they have a returned & refurbished one for sale on their site. Should have known better to wait until the reviews were available.

  42. Listened to it for 2 weeks. Packed it up and sent it back. Crystal clear highs, little mid range & no low end what so ever. Beautiful speaker but highly over priced for $2200. Really disappointed. Wanted so bad to love it but my 2 KG1's for $50 sounded better in the same place. 😐

  46. Congrats on the score, I love the RF-5's probably my favorite out of the whole Reference line. Those woofers are common but a lot o them have little dents / dimples, as the listing above states they were used in the RC-7 and RF-3 as well. The RF-35 woofers will work too but they have a different dust cap. Just so you know the RF-7 / RC-7 horn and driver will bolt right in to the RF-5's, I swapped complete RC-7 crossovers and drivers into the pair I eventually sold to a member here and it was a nice improvement. I've collected another set of the drivers for my current pair of RF-5's and working out custom crossovers soon to get the most of them. Don't get me wrong, they sound excellent stock but I just can't leave things well enough alone.

  47. That sub I posted under my Belle is a Lil Wrecker (Lil Mike). Much smaller and only uses a 6.5" sub. I run two of them to try to keep up with the Belles. The do a very good job up to a point. They system in in a small room and music only so they do the trick. No eq. I hope to build a F-20 or something similar if I ever do a dedicated music room bigger than where I use them now (12x24). I am not a big fan of direct radiating subs except for electronic music or movies, which I currently do not do.
