  1. On behalf of us "little people" everywhere: you gave up your little people card when you got Jubes. Just sayin'!

  2. I have a pair of these and they're very good. They have a big sound that belies their diminutive stature. The tweeter is something special. There's a textural quality to the high frequencies that add another layer to jazz music and instruments in general. They thrive with big power amps in my opinion. I can't remember their rated sensitivity, but they really sing with a high current amplifier. Here they are beside my Chorus II's for comparison.

  5. Buy two conductor by the 50" roll at PE. I normally buy 12 to 14 gauge which is gross overkill for the job I expect it to do but then I never have to worry about using it on other speakers either. Some of mine have far more demand than Cornwalls. Speaker cables have absolutely nothing to do with shrill unless you somehow are getting some sort of electronic interference from another device. I use banana's for convenience because I am constantly moving things around but after a while they can get loose and can cause poor connections. For my quasi permanent hookups I use the fork end crimp connectors and they work forever. People will talk you into expensive wires that do nothing but conduct electricity like the cheap ones do. It is crazy how much some will spend and at Audiogon you can spend $20,000.00 on a set and the snake oil that comes with it is the exciting bonus.

  7. === not so. I’m still peoples, one of you. And let’s not forget that on more than one occasion I have offered to open the castle gates and allow crossing the moat for a Jube audition. You have yet to accept. But please, please, should you accept have your “I am a little people” card with you. It brings fond memories. Agreed that mine is long ago gone, the result of cresting the “I have quite a bit of cash and good taste” threshold. Signed - $Richie the $Rich

  9. Was heading home from a job and up a ahead coming towards me was a motorcycle with a side car. Hard to tell in the fading light of the day, but it looked old, not a Beamer, no piston sticking out to the sides, not a Harley, wrong sound, probably a Brit; Triumph, BSA or Norton. The bike was black, the side car was black, the rider wore black leather, black helmet and black goggles. In the side side car rode a skeleton. He flashed by me in a moment, glancing over my way. I felt a shudder in my heart. I knew I had just been passed by the grim reaper How do I know you say? The skeleton wasn't wearing a helmet.

  12. A roofing company that put a 2'x4' tarp on LF's roof ridge sent an invoice for $750. She was being too nice so I got on the phone. He said he sent 4 people out and that I must not understand business. I said maybe not but I do understand gouging.....it then got heated😑.

  13. So I just want to make sure I completely understand. Are you saying adding banana plugs or spades ( or any extra connection for that matter) changes the sound in a POSITIVE way?

  16. I wouldn’t have thought this to be true, but it is. I’ve already gone through a bottle of Menace, and I’m the only one using it. I also feel better physically, which seems odd to me, but pretty noticeable. The Peril is good too, but I prefer it with chicken, we do mostly beef over here.

  26. My Dad was a member of the Greatest Generation. A kid in the roaring 20s, coming of age in the Great Depression, going to war in WWII. I can only barely comprehend the stress he lived with. Then all the shenanigans my sister, brother and I piled on top of that. Lost him to heart failure way too young at 62.

  27. No offense to the seller but I will never understand people who are willing to sell their gear on Ebay at lower prices than in here. Even though selling here is free and fees are to be paid on Ebay. I personally know why this is, but not going to thread crap as this happens pretty often.

  29. Do this... and decide for yourself: Buy pricey cables from a seller who has a return policy. Now, hook one of them to one channel on your pre-amp (receiver, whatever), then your current cable to the other. Now, push your speakers close together (ie., almost touching), then play music with either your mono button pushed, or (if you don't have one) play a mono recording. Use your balance control to switch b/w the speakers. Here a difference? Even better, have a friend hook up the cable without you knowing which is hooked to which channel. Again, use balance control to switch b/w channels. Do you hear a difference?? Please report back your results. Also, I recommend reading this: http://ethanwiner.com/audiophoolery.html

  30. I made my own cables with Canare 4s11 Star Quad, https://www.ebay.com/itm/Canare-4S11-Star-Quad-11-AWG-Wire-Speaker-Cable-W-Banana-Plugs-10-Ft/150829228707?epid=1746297975&hash=item231e1f62a3:g:6rQAAOxyjPNREOZ5:rk:20:pf:0 When I need another set I will just order from that seller since it's easier. They offer lots of different lengths and setups.

  38. 10 watts would probably be enough (an extra 10 dB, compared to 1 watt) as would 20 watts (a total of an extra 13 dB), or 100 watts (a total of an extra 20 dB). The KG4s might need new capacitors. Go to the tube section of the forum,Talkin' Tubes, and see what they say about good amps. As to vintage solid state, beware amps that used a great deal of feedback to achieve a minuscule level of THD and IM, but gave rise to a "new" kind of distortion Transient Intermodulation Distortion, or TIM. I don't know exactly when they stopped doing this, but someone else probably does.

  40. Or unless the SPL meter is my grandma, where anything I play at any volume is "blaring"...well, unless it's Perry Como or Bing Crosby. Seriously though, I always learn a lot from your posts - thank you for that! I think with these speakers and a 1W amp, it's just not going to cut it for the OP, unless he/she/they listen to Muzak at elevator levels.

  41. Give Cleveland a call and see if they can get you 200-300 to within your budget. If I were giving anyone advice, I would say try for 75" or greater unless your sitting within 10 feet. I've gotten 65" for the last two or three monitors, I won't buy another 65" any longer. I want to get as close to 80"+ from now on and I would personally give away Oled and go with Qled to get there monetarily. Now Samsung is releasing an85" 8k Qled... my mouth is watering.

  42. @fmalloy Although outdoors, one loses about 6 dB for every doubling of distance, indoors it is usually more like 3 dB, due to room reflections. This may partly account for the difference in our SPL estimations. Some calculators use the 6 dB figure, then make up for it later by adding back in the effect of the room, which is like using the 3 dB figure. There is also some disagreement in the audio world as to what is "loud." Loudness is a perceptual phenomenon, not a physical one, although the perceptual is related to the physical. The amount of distortion makes a difference. Frequency response makes a difference. That being said, some of the charts online have a quaint idea of what is loud. There is no way that 60 dB is "moderately loud" unless something pretty bizarre is affecting perception. In my experience, Klipsch's chart is pretty good, i.e., with good, low distortion, equipment, or with live, unamplified music, "loud" can be expected to occur starting at about 90 dB at one's ears. With an old fashioned, highly distorted, hashy transistor radio, 70 or 80 dB can seem mighty loud. Some of them had more than 30% THD and IM distortion. "Good" speakers at 105 dB can have 1.75%, 3%, 7%, or even almost 10% IM distortion.

  45. I’m driving my Cornwalls with a Transcendent Sound SEOTL (original strapped to mono) at 4 watts. Granted my listening room is small but the amps are up to ear splitting levels. They are somewhat hard to find used but well worth the effort. OBTW, they replaced a Amp Camp Amp, solid state SE. Bob
