  2. Back when I had LP's I had Tea For The Tillerman and one of his greatest hit's albums. Now I have nothing by him and ran across it by accident, it was the music in a video I was watching on Youtube, I stopped and looked it up to go listen, then looked at CD's online from him, I need to get some his music again. I bookmarked it to remind me to play it through the stereo instead of just headphones, they sound good but can't replace a room full of sound. Thanks

  3. Heard this the other day and it reminded me of why I use to listen to his music.

  4. I want to say IMHO it’s more important now than at any point in the past that people let go of their preconceived ideas of the past about amplifier designs and there associated sound and actually listen for themselves preferably on the loudspeakers they are to be mated with. Sometimes things just come together in such a synergistic way that will just bring you more pleasure and it’s a very personal experience and matter of personal preference. I think my best advice for a beginner is make it your goal to put together a system that connects you to the music and draws you in to the point that you can listen for hours on end with “0” listener fatigue. Don’t settle for less 🙂 miketn

  5. http://hendrixibsen.rocks Potato Head Hong Kong Location: 100 Third St, Sai Ying Pun, Hong Kong Though not strictly a record store, you can definitely get your fix of wax and caffeine here. The Music Room – located within Potato Head Hong Kong, designed by Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto – houses over 8,000 records, hand-picked by German DJ and producer Johnny Hiller and selection of renowned dealers. The high-spec sound system includes JBL Pro Blue series loudspeakers, Macintosh tube pre amps and amplifiers, a custom-made rotary mixer from Japan, vintage Klipschorn speakers and, of course, a pair of Technics SL-1200s. The space, which features wood panelling and mid-century inspired furniture, also encompasses a homeward store and a coffee bar, and restaurant. http://blackgoldbrooklyn.com

  6. Bet it's been a month since I've seen the sun come up around here. Got to see it a few minutes ago!! It's cool out there but it will be nice if we ever dry out....even just a little. Looking around soaking up my first cup before I pull up the game from last night. Got a doe out there hiding from the breeze in the back. So nice to have good coffee again after getting stuck with a bag of stale beans for a week!

  7. Elden @dtel - Enjoyed this while partaking of first cup of mud. I used to listen to Tea For The Tillerman on vinyl but now it, including this excellent song, is one of my favorite hi-res albums from HDtracks. It’s exquisite in balanced mode from Pono through Class-D amp into Super Heresys with four iNuke powered Anarchy TH subs. I can’t imagine needing anything more in my small space and with these old ears.

  9. How does one test for “no difference” anyway? If, like ODS123, you are predisposed to hear “no difference” you are likely to say “no difference” whether you are listening to the same system or two different ones. His observations are skewed by his predispositions. Look at all his posts everywhere. His observations are effectively useless and have no value due to his obvious, repeated and consistent expression of his predisposition (fervour is probably a better word) to not hear a difference. How can the opinions of someone so fixated that he ignores and discounts the observations of others in this forum, audio equipment designers, etc. have any value? Also, for some unknown reason, the guy who thinks everything sounds the same has followed a fairly typical upgrade path that many normal audiophiles follow. Why do so if everything sounds the same?

  10. This is crazy, it should be legal for medical everywhere there is no excuse. Considering all the side effects of all the different medicines there is no excuse to not make it legal, at least as medicine. I'm not saying it's the cureall for everything but it does have fewer side effects than many, so why not.

  12. So let me get this straight, you sobered up from your dalliance with those solid state slatterns, got clean and went with a curvy, glowing wench. But then you tell us, oh wait a minute, I've done this before. And now you want us to applaud your repeated moral failings? So will this pattern continue to repeat itself? Your seeking affirmation, applause, and respect from the tubular community. I don't think so. Come back in a year, and we'll give you a sobriety pin. 😊

  15. === well apparently it will be new Klipsch speakers for all my friends on the CC&C thread as I have received a very official looking email document from the Secretary of the Treasury, Mr. Steven Mnuchin, that the sum of $3,500,000.00(that’s right boys, three and one-half million big ones) has been appointed to me only awaiting my approval and signature. So to make this fair and avoid the infighting free speakers might bring I thought it best to - - reserve the speaker of your choice - choose your finish - using the price provided on the Klipsch web site forward that amount to me to “hold your reservation” - upon receipt of my $3.5M your reserve speakers will be ordered, shipped and deposit returned - please allow 5-10 years to complete the process Gosh, what a great start to 2019 and Happy New Year to all you lucky guys and gals

  17. There are several threads relevant to this topic, so I apologize if I’m repeating myself. Here’s a brief summary of what I think are relevant issues: Those of us who listen to “natural” music (e.g., classical) know how a live performance should sound - i.e., natural instruments (e.g., violins, trumpets) performing live in the intended venue (e.g., symphony hall, opera house, perhaps a church with acoustics suitable for chamber music) where no electronics are employed (i.e., no sound reinforcement system), and the recording is not deliberately distorted using electronic tools. For the purpose of defining a benchmark for how classical music reproduced in the home “should” sound, IMO the “work of art” – and the benchmark - is the live performance. (“Work of art” may mean something different in intellectual property law.) My goal is for the sound reproduced by my hi-fi system to remind me of the live performance, and for inevitable distortions to sound pleasant vs. unpleasant. (Of course, a limitation of my approach is that it relies on my memory. And I recognize that different venues have different acoustics.) OTOH, a lot of music doesn’t involve natural instruments, and in some cases there never was a live performance, and/or the sound was electronically altered – so it seems to me that the benchmark isn’t as clear for how such music “should” sound. (For a lengthier discussion of this, please see the threads referenced below.) I am not a recording engineer. With that said, it seems to me that “Audio’s Circle of Confusion” is more of a problem for the second category (i.e., electronically produced and altered music), and less of a problem the first category (i.e., natural music) – at least from the perspective of the consumer. In other words, the consumer is less likely to be “confused” (or uncertain) about how classical music “should” sound, compared with electronically altered music. (I’m not suggesting that the recording engineer’s job of faithfully capturing the live performance of classical music is easy. Undoubtedly the recording process is much more complex than I’ll ever understand.) Your thoughts? Following are links to my lengthier comments on these issues. FWIW, I’d be interested in further discussion about this.

  21. If you're talking about the input on the sub itself, the LFE input is just an input that defeats the subwoofer's internal crossover settings, you set that in your receiver's settings menu. On some subs you might end up with a fixed 120Hz crossover on the sub with the LFE input since that's technically the upper limit of that channel's frequency. So, I would use LFE if you want to be able to adjust the crossover in your receiver and the regular inputs if you want to adjust the crossover in your sub.

  24. I agree with most of what you say ODS123, but I still find the use of the word “Beginners” in the subject condescending. IMO, this is all about the “O.” Like navels, everyone has one. I prefer digital playback in balanced mode from a Pono player (ESS Sabre DAC) through a class-D chip amp (Wiener TPA 3118 or TPA3255EVM) then through 12 gauge zip cord. I’d rather enjoy listening to music than debate the merits of the opinions of others regarding cables, break-in, etc. Since the 60s it has been my opinion, and advice to those who asked, that speakers are the most important component, with cartridges second. Those two components are, IMO, likely to produce the most clearly discernible subjective differences. Therefore, most of the budget should go to speakers. When more than 30 years ago I first saw and heard the stereo my now wife bought at Pacific Stereo in Chicago, I was furious. They fleeced someone who didn’t know any better. The “speakers” were hecho en Mexico sort of sealed boxes made from 0.25” particle board with no damping material. The crossover between a 6” “woofer” and a 2” cone “tweeter” was a single capacitor. These abominations were sold as a package consisting of a small Sherwood receiver and a Garrard record changer with a Shure cartridge. While hardly SOTA, the receiver, changer, and cartridge were way better than the speakers. To sell that mess as a “package” to a young woman “beginner” was, IMO, criminal. Truth be told, she loved her stereo. She listened to Carole King, and the like, by the hour and never felt she was missing anything. I still feel that speakers should absorb the bulk of the budget, but I now feel that room and recording issues produce more opportunities for subjective improvements than cables, break-in, etc., assuming you have good speakers. At least that’s my opinion.

  26. My Klipschorns have been somewhat neglected for the past few years since I set up my all horn 7.2 basement system, which is a shame since they live in my teaching studio and get used daily. For the past couple of years I have used a Pioneer SC-1222-K AVR that was retired from the basement to run the K-horns, and it sounded pretty good actually, but the Pioneer was needed elsewhere and so I started looking for a good and easy to use integrated (my violinist wife did not want it hard to use). Klipschorns are a great speaker and I thought they deserved a bit more love. After some research my first try was a Yamaha A-S801, which sounded ok but wound up being defective (it would shutdown after 15 or so min. of use) and a relatively unpleasant experience to return. I then used a 15 year old HK receiver and cheap Behringer DAC that was part of my kids stereo system and it sounded pretty good, but the longer I listened to it the less I liked it. Before my basement system was constructed I had a Yaqin made 300B tube amp with the K-horns, which I sold in part to help cover what I was spending to put the basement system together. I had very fond memories of that combination so I decided to try tubes again. Amazon.com is selling the Yaqin MC-13S tube integrated amp for a pretty reasonable price (Prime and with easy returns) so I gave it a shot. I also picked up a Yaqin MS-23B phono preamp as well, and a Schiit Modi 3 DAC to complete the system. I am writing this as I listen to this setup and I must say I am very happy with the results. I did spend a bit more that the Yamaha in the end since it had a built in DAC and phono section, but the results are far superior. Never thought I would go back to tubes, but glad I tried them again.

  27. Mine, too, Brother! For all my life and through my entire marriage, I smoked cigs - about 3/4 pack a day. 30 years of it. I had a bout of the flu shortly after my divorce, and I decided, "I got rid of the wife (to put it nicely); now, it's time for the cigs." Haven't smoked since. I must abstain 100%, or else... We smokers know exactly what I mean.

  30. Nothing like breaking the seal on a forty year old, never opened LP. Especially one you know well and your copy isn't the best anymore and the new one is a CBS Mastersound copy. So the seller and the market up there....lets just say north of the Mason/Dixon line must not recognize the value when I paid less for this than a new reissue costs at one of the online record shops. 6:30 left in the first period and the Hurricanes are up on Columbus 2-0!!!!! CDB: and even if you don't dig them you would appreciate the sweet, full sounds coming from this new vinyl..... had to blow off some of that extra vinyl that is sometimes on new ones.
