  1. I was actually going to say the same thing. I spent the weekend installing ac in my garage while my wife primed and painted so I actually DID watch paint dry and it was honestly more interesting than golf.

  2. Didn't watch a minute of it. He was more interesting when he was banging I-Hop waitresses.

  3. Hmmph. You're a little arrogant to think it was your work with Tiger's swing that won him today's tournament. Most people think it was the surgery I did on his back, but unlike you, I'm way too humble to mention it myself...

  4. My best guess case for total or severe loss if they can stop it where it is. Let's pray the walls hold. We need an international effort to develop extreme fire suppressing technologies for when a 100 million dollar effort would be a bargain, like it would be in this case. Airborne units stationed in strategic areas around the world that can reach great treasures like this within a hour or so, and ground units closer with abilities beyond those normally called for. It has not appeared to me that the Paris firefighters had either the hose pressure or height necessary to reach the heart of this catastrophe nor have I seen anything but water being used. We can do better! And we should. Dave

  14. The "Stranger in Town" LP was literally new old stock! It had the tiny shards of vinyl still in there. Blues Breakers is the gem here a little needle drop noise at the beginning of both sides - everything else - gravy! Another from the haul, needs a few more zaps with the zerostat, but it sure plays nicely for an LP from `76!! Either someone had moved to another plane or a rocker fell on hard times..... I robbed that store yesterday. More to come...

  15. Well at least in person you're outdoors, probably with other people socailizing and you had to travel and make preparations. But seriously if you are down to watching golf on TV you need to get a hobby...hint..... Listening to awesome Klipsch speakers comes to mind

  18. Before I get in some kinda rut! Change up! lol Nice solid LP here from 1971. Remember a fat lil lion tamer I met once in a bar while on the road. Yup she really was a lion tamer... Woke up the next morning in her bed. Totally clueless I asked, "I didn't did I?" She said, "No honey you didn't." To this day I have no idea what or how that happened! Truth! Soooooo, yup HAD to buy this LP. "The Morning After." 😂 😂 😎

  19. We were [basically] beta and in a lot of cases alpha testers. We would buy these silly little helicopters that would barely fly... let alone be controllable...so we could rebuild them and make them air worthy.

  20. Hi @JohnJ search 3-D helicopter flying I used to be active... Simple, little, easy to fly... Got out for a couple reasons... 1] very expensive hobby. Even if you don't crash, they are maintenance intensive. Stuff wears out fast. 2] I got a "Sorry, wrong number" call from Raytheon. Truth

  25. Impedance fluctuates with frequency. My experience with most of the Klipsch stuff and tube amps, is that they sound better using the 8 ohm taps.

  26. My beef is with "audiophiles" not the speaker maker here. I did not comment on the actual speakers, they look really nice (awesome actually), but they are corn-scalas. My point is that the audiophile community will accept these as true "audiophile" (whatever that means) but if Klipsch made the exact same speakers, they are sub par. Same thing with Volti's speakers.. They are absolutely beautiful and I'm sure they sound awesome, but they are basically modified heritage and the heritage do not seem to get any respect. I use to go to the Audio shows here in town. At one of the last real shows that I went to (about 10 years ago) out of all of the systems, the Wilson room, a pair of Revel Salon 2's with levinson amps thrown together in a room (I forget what they were showing), and a pair of hand made speakers using Pioneer car audio components (may have been TAD drivers labeled Pioneer) were the three best systems that I heard. I am not saying that the other stuff was not good, but Audio shows usually do not have equipment set up well. After one audio show, I gave up after that because I realized that I did not care to chase this BS any more. I had a way too expensive system and "downgraded it" to a complete system (using Palladium 38 mains) where the entire system cost about what the speakers and preamp from the previous system cost and it still sounded just as good (same room). So my thoughts on the audiophile thing:

  28. I am also using a MiniDSP with tubes upstream and down. I am running a Musical Paradise P-307 (Tube preamp & phono stage for R2R and TT) into a MiniDSP 4x10HD. With the MiniDSP acting as the crossover, the signal then goes to a Bob Latino ST-70 (~35wpc PP EL34) for the HF, a Dayton Audio APA150 (150wpc class A/B SS) for the LF, and a Yamaha P2200 (340W class A/B SS) for the sub. I love the tube sound and don't think that using a digital crossover takes away from it at all. In the future, I will probably move that ST-70 from the HF section down the the LF section and use a low-powered tube amp (either SET or OTL) for the HF section for even more tubey goodness.

  30. ESPN reports a guy making his FIRST bet won 1.9 million. He bet $85,000 at 14-1 for Tiger to win! I think $3 is a big bet. I wonder if he told his wife he was betting the family's life savings on a golfer who hadn't won a big one in 11 years? http://www.espn.com/chalk/story/_/id/26524565/bettor-wins-119m-tiger-books-take-bath

Pics to follow... but I’m sure some will wince in horror... also so very glad I didn’t sell - the shell disintegrated when I was moving them... I’d have hated to have someone else inherit that..

  33. I think you are correct about the make-up about the forum but it's a lot like it in my state of Texas.-- am in a 45/55 minority but when you realize the difference it isn't a drastic amount of people and becomes relative. As mentioned, when you discuss government it IS about politics...I think you started a good topic but unfortunately talking about solutions (or even how government should be involved) it will turn political....After it being banned on this forum for the last couple years I have developed a new appreciation for it and don't understand why civil discourse can't be had on these topics. I think the thread you are talking about is "Angry White Men," and it got shut down because there are a lot of conservative (although I don't know what it means anymore) and as much as I love you Gilbert, I reported the post above just to see if it got erased....It didn't so I rest my case. Sincerely hope you and your family are doing well. {Edit Note: It's only the 3rd post I've EVER REPORTED} Hey, good to see ya posting, Jeff! Thanks for the lesson, but after this response you acquiesced sooner than myself and the thread would've been locked! I just can't hang with it brotha and think we should lobby for a Klipsch Civil Political Forum. You and me could be the moderators.

  36. Since I went fully active, I have not used the room correction in the 88A. I have just used REW and found my crossovers and PEQ's, put those into the 88A and am running with that. The nice thing with the 88A is that there are different configurations you can store and run to compare setups with. If you haven't purchased a product yet, you may want to wait until they announce more products that run the 2.0 version of the DIRAC. Be sure you read and understand the product application notes for the various products. It is not alway immediately obvious how they work.

  37. You should notice a definite improvement in midrange clarity. If you want even more of an upgrade in midrange go with a three way design like a Heresy, forte, KLF-20 or 30, etc.

  38. Been there plenty of times, they do a good job. One of the best seafood places I have ever go to was Fitzgeralds on the lake in West End, great place until the hurricane took it out. They were in business from 1940 to 1998.

  41. As far as I know, all the KPT-KHJ-LF bass bins have used dual 12" drivers (originally K-31s). All the early bass bins (like the ones I own) used the strut stiffeners: ...while later ones use the shelf-type configuration--done to improve manufacturability and reduce assembly time (according to Roy): There have been one or two third party bass designs--not done by Klipsch that you might be referring to. I'd like to keep this thread focused on the Jubilee rather than all other competing designs. As far as the K-402 horns, there have been three versions that I'm aware of: the first one with a metal throat assembly (and the polymer material comprising the rest of the horn that softens and cracks when exposed to direct sunlight), the second compression molded version made of ABS that weighs in at 25 pounds/horn, and the current injection molded ABS version that weights in at 15 pounds. As far as I know, all three versions produce equal acoustic results. There are many customizations that can be done DIY by the owners. Mikebse2a3 (miketn) has modified his K-402s to enclose them, as shown in the pictures above and below, and has produced a full thickness front of zebrawood (IIRC) that hangs from the top of the bass bin and covers the center panel of the bass bin. Kudret produced the first full box for his K-402s, looking very similar to the KPT-305 mid-bass modules before selling them years ago: Many Jubilee owners have chosen to upgrade their 2" compression drivers. The first round of upgrades were to incorporate the TAD TD-4002 beryllium diaphragm drivers (very expensive), but more recently, there have been FaitalPRO HF200s and HF20ATs, Radian 950PB (aluminum diaphragm) or Radian 950BePB (beryllium diaphragm), BMS 4592ND (dual ring radiator diaphragm), various JBL 2" drivers, etc. The original K-69 driver (P.Audio BM-D750 series I) was replaced by the K-69-A (P.Audio BM-D750 series I with modified diaphragm-phase plug spacing), then more recently, back to the K-691 (a version of the B&C DE75 with a modification). EDIT (7 November 2021): with the release of the Celestion Axi2050 "full range" 2 inch compression driver--that's currently used in the new replacement version of the Jubilee--there is yet another option for compression driver upgrades for the basic K-69-A or K-691 drivers that were shipped with the Professional version Jubilee (using the KPT-KHJ-LF bass bin): There have been discussions of adding a nose on the front of the bass bins in order to complete the horn mouth closure--like that of a La Scala bass bin. This would help broaden the bass bin polars on the high end near the crossover frequency to the K-402 horn and deepen the FC of the bass bin another few Hz. The following picture of a Levan horn mouth extension for a similar type of W section bass bin is provided as a visual for the bass bin nose extension, with the added wide side panel wings of the Levan horn made necessary for the shown half-space loading of the picture. These extended side panels would not be needed for the Jubilee bass bin in a room corner, rather short wings spanning edges of the two mouths and angled to intersect the adjacent walls would be enough: Chris

  42. I will add this. I, like most people have listened to and loved music most of my life and have always had what most people would consider a better than average system. But when my wonderful wife convinced me to give Klipsch a shot everything changed. (She grew up in Hope and knew many Klipsch employees) I guess like Woody Harrelson said in white men can't jump I was listening to music but not really hearing it. Now when I listen to music that's all I'm doing i give it 100 percent attention. And I have found my lascalas begged me to listen to a much broader range of different types of music. Stringed instruments really shine as do certain drums. I don't know if the things I'm talking about here can be measured or not but Klipsch has made me love and appreciate all kinds of music I would never have given a chance otherwise.

  43. I think that there is merit to the basic argument. The basic idea, I believe, is that a lot of people focus on the least effective means to increase their sound quality. I think this is because there is no "mental map" of what's the most important factors and what's the least important. This is a common problem, and one that I've dealt with effectively in my career as an engineer, manager, etc. I'm not sure that we'll ever get consensus on the exact weighting, but at least some idea of the important factors to keep in the mind's eye might help those that do not have a good overall picture would help. Below you'll see a strawman hierarchy of those factors to help those that might be over-focused on less important factors, in approximate importance order (which of course is debatable)...but the overall picture is still important. I can say that I've seen far too much spending and emphasis on electronics to the obvious detriment of loudspeaker, room, and source music quality factors. Maybe something like the hierarchy below might help those that have trouble understanding the relative importance of all the big-hitter factors in one chart. Chris
