  1. Mornin' All hope everyone is well being as the wife is working at home, we needed to set some hours...[for the time] we are calling 8AM the beginning of her work. We'll see how this goes. Left to her own, she wouldn't be out of bed at that time. Nothin' exciting today, yet...I need to fashion a handle for the whip sickle. May need to go out and cut something.... Don't think I have anything that can be repurposed. We have black willows down here.... That might work. It's tough as. Again, we'll see how that goes. Drinking leftover Mexican coffee. Not day old... only half day. I made it last night Could have a fire tonight and the next couple. Highs hovering around 70. Average is 80` for Tucson. As long as the sun is out, we can warm the house... and we do have, what I call, the sun room. Catches the early AM sun. Always nice in the AM there.... even in the summer. Anyway, I don't think we'll have the doors and windows open today. If it gets to 70, it will be there for about 5 mins before it starts dropping. There is some rain predicted....any is good... but, I doubt it will be a significant amt. Quarter inch at best.

  3. When I want some 'freedom' from my wife's most annoying fog-horned voice sister I just put on some Janis Joplin and she runs for her life out of here. Amazing what an excess of tobacco and Southern Comfort will do to your vocal chords. 🏇 Wb

  8. Please excuse the mess. I was working on the framework for the speakers most of today, and I have 3 MEHs ready to wire now. I do not know when I will be able to buy more MDF as HD, and the lumber yards are now closed in our area. At least I will be able to enjoy them as OB until I can try a cabinet. A cabinet will be made to where it can fit the existing structure. Once I find out which way we like it I will be getting them veneered in Mahagony that way. As far as the OB the woofer do fire forward through the horn...so this will be to me another way to try the MEH. It might be a total failure as a OB, but I can always add a cabinet to it. As far as dealing the horn to the baffle...we have 2 layers of MDF, and also overlapping as the easiest way to do it was to angle cut a sheet of MDF into 3 pieces, and then angle cut the other way to remove the center area for the horn. It is pretty solid right now, and when we do the final build on it we will also seal it off with caulk. The speakers are already pushing 200lbs each, and will def be a good amount over 200 with a cabinet. We have constructed this to where we can still take it apart for shipping if we want to, as the horn can be removed from the front baffle. Whe the horn is removed only theb1 side triangle would remain as they are glued with construction adheasive, and the woofer plates attach to them with screws. Another reason for not having a simple box if footprint...in order to minimize the footprint we also needed to raise it off the floor to get the horn center closer to the correct height. If we mounted them the way everyone else does it would have been much wider, and we would have to raise them off the floor even more, The last pic is why I have the horn protruding the front baffle. I liked the design and wanted to do a MEH like this non MEH speaker. I also wanted to try out open baffle to see how I like it. As far as the front baffle being wide enough...time will tell, and if it is not and a box sounds better, it will have a box. Sent from my SM-T830 using Tapatalk

  10. My poor wife. We are 11 days into self-isolation and it is really upsetting me to witness my wife standing at the living room window gazing aimlessly into space with tears running down her cheeks. Don’t get me wrong, I empathize with her. I’ve considered letting her in many times, but rules are rules.

  11. A new thread to clean up my old for sale. See picture. located in Chicago. open to trades. See below chorus ii pair with new crites crossovers and titanium tweeters. $900 original tags As I was sanding down the veneer I realized it couldn’t be saved so after sanding I painted them with Black acrylic enamel figuring I would redo the veneer at some point. Risers are removed and replaced with black rubber feet in the original holes and screws. I do have the factory risers! single quartet speaker $400 used as a center channel between the chorus iis. Brand new crites crossovers and new titanium tweeters. it was oak but sanded and painted black to match. I figured I’d re veneer them as a set. it has matching rubber feet. I have the factory risers. I realize this is a littles expensive for a quartet but with the mods there is decent money invested in it. I am open to discussing it. Items I would consider in trade with or without cash considerations each way. RF-7 components 1,2, or 3 series. rc-64 ii or 3 Heresy Iii or IV newer RP tower speakers. let me know if anyone has any questions.

  18. New member to the forum here:) I remember this t-shirt extremely well because it was created by my father's advertising agency back in the 1970's as I recall. My father (Bob Ginnaven, deceased) was the creative director and co-owner of an ad agency in Little Rock, Arkansas named Mangan Rains Ginnaven & Holcomb. They handled all of the Klipsch advertising for about 20 years, which was almost exclusively print media, no radio or tv. The only exception were the "Klipschirts" as we called them. I don't have any of them any more but the artist who created this Frodo image is named Buster Hall and he's still alive and on Facebook. The front of this t-shirt showed the front of the La Scala's with Frodo sitting on it holding the Lord of the Rings (Buster is a BIG Tolkein fan) with the word "Klipschirt" in Elven script at the top. On the reverse it showed Frodo's back, the back of the La Scala's with the word "bullshit" spelled out with Elven letters so you could and couldn't read it at the same time?! Man, I wish I had a dozen or more of these t-shirts now! I still have my Heresy speakers I got for my 15th birthday back in 1977:) They need to be refinished but they still sound awesome!!! Thanks for letting me take a walk down memory lane!

  19. Well a couple months ago when the wife was so sick and went to the doctor she was tested for the flu and was negative, so they gave her steroids and antibiotics and she got past it a couple weeks later, slowly at least over a few weeks. At that time they did give her the flu shot. We think she had the virus but no way of knowing except all the symptoms were exactly the same, she now has an oxygen machine to breath with when she sleeps. I was also sick for 2-4 days and got past it fast, but she is always worse with anything going around having auto immune deficiency. She is doing much better now. We really think we have already had it, maby, but still not taking any chances. I have never had a flu shot and had the flu once or twice in my life

  22. Sadly, in spite of our relatively recent history which includes the Spanish Flu, Polio, SARS, Ebola, MERS, etc., most medical schools no longer teach anymore the histories of Edward Jenner, Sabin and Salk. Nor do they teach about Banting, Best and the other researchers that developed insulin and then sold the patent for $1. This needs to change! Wb

  23. Influenza death statistics involve 10’s of millions of documented cases so the fatality rate is far less than covid19. If we should see the same number of covid19 cases as we do the flu we’d probably have close to - if not more - 1 million deaths. So can we dismiss comparing this to the flu?

  25. Hopefully it would be brother only and not your children. I had to give the DNR instructions for my Aunt..... it was the right thing to do, it was what she wanted. I still felt as though I had a hand in her passing. My mother then, gave me similar instructions because she saw how I treated her sister. Fortunately Mom passed without me having to go through that with her too.

  26. Awesome and congrats. The KG series are really fun speakers. I use a pair of KG4s in my basement system (where I've been working for the past four weeks, so lots of time on them) The KG4s were abused in a past life so I picked them up for $50. Recapped the crossovers through Parts Express (cheap money), added cheap plastic feet. They're driven by a Kenwood receiver from the early 2000s I got for free at a yard sale. The source is an Echo Dot using the audio out from Pandora. Truth be told, some days it just seems like the KG4 system is more fun than my tube based, dual subwoofer, external mid-fi wtih FLAC files DAC Heresy system. At 1/40th the cost of the whole system.

  28. the KG (KM) series are great speakers & very under-appreciated IMO. i have owned the kg3.5 & multiple pairs of the bigger kg5.5's, for the used price they cant be beat & are comparable to the KLF series. if you ever find the bigger models kg 4.5 or 5.5 they are a huge step up from the kg3.5 as they have the much better tractrix mid/tweet & bigger 10" woofers. ive seen many kg4.5/5.5 for around $250.

  29. I ended up with this TD-125 after providing all of the audio equipment for the last Tarantino film “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.” Everything had to work and be absolutely period correct. I ended up with two very early TD-125 tables while purchasing and refurbishing all of the gear. I put the best parts of the two tables together for the scene in Jay Sebring’s house - a scene that was cut from the final edit!! Anyway, I took the parts left over and built this TD-125 for my desert system. I had the FR arm in box from WAY back, but no headshell. So I made a mounting board and bought the Ikeda headshell off of ebay (Ikeda was the designer of the FR arms back in the 70’s). I already had the 103 and the step up so I used them. It’s a cobbled together rig for sure but DAMN it sure is sweet!!!

  30. We usually only do a few herbs and one tomato plant in pots on our raised deck. I hope we can buy plants this year. @NADman, we are forecast to get 2.5 inches of snow tomorrow, I feel your pain! I sure hope this is the last week of snow, it is very late this year here.

  32. So... after goofing around a while after writing I have to admit i am a moron. I misread the On/Auto/Off standby and when my receiver said make sure Stand By is off on your woofer, I thought turning Standby Mode meant putting the switch to Off because of my lack of reading comprehension skills lol. The moment I out it in Auto or On Yeah it worked and we enjoyed Frozen 2 and my walls rattled. Well at least I hope people get a good laugh LoL.

  33. @MicroMara Got mine new and disregarded the "Digitally Recorded" or whatever it was sticker on it. After listening to a couple tunes I started reading the cover and realized that Saga had made a very clean sounding live record! So no problems with mine either. Hope you heard the last song on that Down on the Farm LP... "Feel the Groove" is right up your alley... Rich, low vocals and about as funky as they ever got! The above song is from a few of the survivors of the Skynyrd plane crash.... they had left SC to fly down south and they did not observe a stringent flight readiness protocol.

  34. I've never heard them. Do you have a link to an article or info? Actually, in a liquor store I was once in, there were 2 Radio Shack supplementary tweeters of the kind Stereophile added to the Bozak Concert Grand for their review. They were just plunked on a couple of shelves on opposite sides of the store (not near the main speakers), among all those diffusing/reflecting bottles! They did sound fairly spacious and airy, I guess. Of course there were speakers in the past that were rear firing; Bose 901, some JBL Aquarius (as the name implied, they sounded best with a little vegetable aid), the Empire Royal Grenadier, etc. PWK's response to these was that it would be hard to avoid a diffuse, reverberant field if the listener was far enough from the speakers. He considered normal listening distance to be 16 feet. I found that to be true in fairly "live" rooms, like my parents' old living room. Here is a Realtor's picture of it, using the customary, deceptive, wide angle lens. Back when I listened in that room, it had a large Persian rug, and diffusing wooden Venetian blinds, so it wasn't that "live" then. The sound was marvelous! So ... when my wife and I moved into a new house, we built a music room/home theater of the same dimensions as my parents' room -- and, by coincidence, PWK's. The sound is quite good, but not as spacious sounding as my parents' living room. We are gradually removing absorbing materials from the room, bit by bit, while leaving the diffusers and vases, etc. in place. I heard of a guy who aimed the big mid/treble horn of the Altec A7 (I see the number 511B gliding through the mist of memory) toward the wall.

  37. Agreed with the above. You have 2 different types of inputs on the sub amp. You can use one or the other depending on what type outputs from your source you have to work with.
