  2. Thanks Paul. & I've got a surprise for you too! Look what I've got to experience tonight, well now actually. Only on the second tune and it is more like the live one that @dirtmudd sent here to widen my Led Zeppelin leaning tastes

  6. Hi guys ! It's my birthday today 😄 So I got a gift of some nice new and used Jazz records. I buy them at Jazz Messengers in Barcelona in Spain. I had a nice store bag in the package 👍

  8. @dirtmudd That one was in with the first batch but it must have been liked... was scratched all to h*ll. Ultrasound does have limits and that one, a few Allman Bros and a couple Clapton were not like the majority that appear unplayed. Really noticing the bass... the by the lb record plays it back very well like the live record. Having stock H2s for almost thirty years then going down to 38hz with the F3s whetted my appetite for all I could get. Lots of familiar LPs sound so different with my rig broadcasting down to 18hz! The old Genesis utilizes the low notes too.

  11. Another from my long forgotten dabbling effort to acquire class. I bought this one simply because the actress on the cover reminded of my high school sweetie and I thought it was about time to pick up some Mozart anyway. I eventually saw “Elvira Madigan” (the quintessential schmaltzy romantic chick flick) at a foreign film festival with another girlfriend who commented on how beautiful she thought the actress was. After the movie, we went back to my humble college abode (a tiny stone cabin holdover from the early Model T touring days) and I played the album as we downed a bottle of Auslese from Flintstone juice glasses by candle light......yada yada. These old albums do contain some nice memories, I’m glad that I hung on to them.

  12. Going through some of my oldest records. This is the first album that I ever bought. I wanted to start a DG recording collection in my teens but not start with the usual Bach or Beethoven and the cover looked so classy on this one. I thought by my age now that I’d have have a wall full of black an yellow labels but I think I only have about a dozen and those are mostly in boxes. This is a very nice recording and still sounds clean after 45 years of being lugged around the world.

  13. That is a Jazz classic I have heard it but unfortunately don’t have it in my collection Edit Hold on - Hold on I do have it on LP 😱 I tricked myself as my memory is failing me https://www.discogs.com/Sonny-Rollins-Saxophone-Colossus/release/4085008

  14. 10 days and counting here. If this yard work doesn't kill me first. Happy birthday @mustang_flht & @JohnJ! Too stinking sore and tired to even THINK about chasing LP's this evening! Next up the chainsaw work but it's in the shop getting gone over. Hope they take their good old time too! Tomorrow? Imma gonna crank! Wait! Imma gonna go get a doughnut! Just sounds good! Had a bag of frozen peas nuked earlier for dinner. How nuts is that? STILL have the sirloin to go with them laying in the fridge! Told ya I'm TIRED! HAHAHA!

  20. I enjoy listening to music thru my Klipsch speakers while cooking something good for dinner. whats the tastiest dish you can cook at home? i can make a delicious Pasta Carbonara, no cream, just noodles, eggs, some sort of aged pork, salt & pepper, and cheese. Sometimes I'll add onions, garlic and peas.

  22. have encounter both during my desert life. I actually saw myself in an episode of that 70s tv show Emergency. This guy gets bit by a Mojave green rattler. at the hospital, he's telling the doc that he wanted to sell the venom to a hospital or lab. I DID THAT. When I was about 14 or 15, me and some friends thought we could sell venom to the local hospital. so we went out and caught a rattler. put it in an ice chest and lugged it home (a several mile walk). Called the hospital and they told me that "we buy our anti-venom from a laboratory." Crap, what am I gonna do with this snake now? another time, I can't remember how I encountered this rattler; but it ended up in the truck of my Dad's car. I forgot about it until he came home from golfing and told me what he found when he opened the trunk to get his golf clubs. I remember the conversation starting off very calmly with, "by the way, you can never drive my car again."

  23. Their bite is like a bee sting. Unless you are particularly allergic to them, they are "harmless". Climbing rocks sound like [rattle] snake and scorpion territory. We don't like those, either. If you ever see a SunSpider... that will put scary in perspective. They make tarantulas look cuddly and cute. SunSpider are some alien looking mofos. And they are fast/ darting around. Did I mention ugly? They don't have any venom. They will bite the crap out of you and pretty formidable as critters go. Did I mention they are UGLY?

  24. You're way wrong about that. For starters, this is a .22 cal - a tiny round that is great for target practice and training yourself up to handle a rifle - the explicit purpose I bought it for. Not so great for a guy running at you with armor and a rifle much larger caliber than you. Sure as hell isn't going to do much in a CZ. This (which I also got last week) however is EXACTLY what they used in World War II. .30-06. Lots more firepower than the puny .22 that I posted up there.

  28. Another one of my oldies - Paul Horn, “Inside the Great Pyramid” Solo flute improvisations recorded within the chambers of the Great Pyramid. Vintage New Age (how’s that for a genre?) and very cool recording with ancient acoustics.

  29. Not really. I smoked about 1 1/2 packs a day, mostly in a social setting or at work. Was working as a tv new photog, spent time waiting outside of courts, driving to next assignment, etc. In retrospect I had it easy, but just decided to stop. It was before any of the kids were born.

  30. Hang in there Dave. You will quit smoking, just try to be alive when you do.

  34. Yes these were purchase in Chattanooga at a thrift store of all places! They were offered for sale locally to several vintage speaker enthusiasts and I happen to have the winning bid. I was told they were sold and then the original buyer had second doubts...so I was next in line. I only wish I had a dedicated room to place these beautiful speakers but for now they are set up in a conditioned, humidity controlled garage until they find a new home. I plan to keep the Belles if can move them to the correct spot. Free demos to anyone local who wants to stop by and check them out in person. Just trying to preserve quality hifi when I can.

  40. Well yea, it's a big deal, like the most important thing, if you do the right thing or be a responsible person can not possibly be as important, even what generation your from is at the top of the list. For me I would need a bandage that looks like it was drug behind a truck like the rest of me for it to blend in.

  41. uh huh I retrace my steps, thinking it will spark something. ..or BS until it comes back... the other day, wife and i were talking and I was going on about a friend.... and I couldn't remember her name. phone #, yes. the Bighorn Fire [in Tucson] is getting some attention. Evacuations have been ordered. They can't/don't want to put people on the ground to fight it. Too rugged. For now, it's an aerial attack. the fire down here... doesn't appear they are taking action. Unless "monitoring it" constitutes doing something. I see they are coming out with a range of skin tone bang aids. 180` shift from ones with characters and big bright colors.

  44. had to laugh ... I will skim news headlines and only read the article if it appears interesting (or incredibly stupid). this one article was listing the demands that the occupiers in Seattle have. I don't recall all of them but some included dissolving the Seattle PD AND the court system. But, in their infinite wisdom, they want new trials for some already incarcerated. Maybe @DizRotus can help me understand how we can retry cases when the judicial system has been eliminated? Who will be the judge -- the King of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland? don't be alarmed though folks ... I'm sure that they've thought this out completely.

  46. The grill frame material is a plastic or composite material and is unaffected (in my experiences) by water. I've actually soaked a pair of Chorus II grill covers for several hours in the bathtub one time due to heavy cigarette smoke residue in the fabric it was a case of hope it works and doesn't ruin them but I almost considered them ruined anyway should have seen the tannish brown water they left it was pretty gross. More recently I've experimented with the car wash on a few set sets of covers and that is my new method of cleaning them works fantastic brings them back to like new condition if they're just dusty dirty heavy stains will likely need some touch up paint fabric type in a spray can works well.
