  1. Decided to toss this one on just to see how things worked with the addition of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. IF you pick it up ya don't need a sub! Just a touch maybe. I killed mine completely for this first listen. Glad I did too because it shines w/o one imo. Alan Parson's "One Note Symphony" is a 3-lp album is great way to look at them from a different perspective. The orchestra was a great addition to so many of his works all onto three 180 gram discs.

  2. I admit, I´m always torn, the vintage stuff definitely has the bigger cool factor. 😎 But the little AS201 that powers my KG 1.5 now already sounds very nice, so it´ s bigger brethren must be even better. Sigh, so many choices...

  3. I just love King Crimson, and this album is so good it needs a couple of spins 🤪 And I’m sure @dirtmudd mentioned that this is his favourite album by King Crimson Artist - King Crimson Title - Red Album ID - https://www.discogs.com/release/4703409-King-Crimson-Red

  4. Further progress, painted the motor boards and the backs of the cabinets this weekend: The labels suffered a little from the masking tape, but the important print is ok- There were some very minor mishaps from painting, a matter of a little sanding. Once that is done, I can start oiling and waxing the wood.

  6. St Peters is punching well above its weight class. Nonetheless, I expect @Tarheel‘s UNC team to take them seriously, and to take them out. The B1G sure strengthened the arguments of the small schools with 20+ victories that don’t make the tournament unless they win a conference championship tournament. Nine B1G teams qualified, but none made it into the Elite Eight. At this point it’s ABD (Anybody But Duke). IMO, Coach K’s farewell tour is unseemly. I don’t want it to turn into a victory lap.

  7. The LaScalas deserve better than an AV receiver. Plan accordingly. If you have to use one for the short term just to get some sound, that’s fine. But look to a good tube integrated or tube separates. That will be when you discover just how good the speakers are that you bought.

  10. On to this from Ray Wylie Hubbard's March 18, 2022 release "Co-staring Too." lol Since I already had his "Co-Starring" lp I just had to get it. Right? 😂 In all, not a bad album if you like Ray Wylie Hubbard.

  12. I built this room as part of an addition in 07 when I was in business designing and installing home theater systems here on Cape Cod. Until last year it was a theater room only. The screen and LCR speakers are behind the curtain. Two 12" passive subs are under the stage front firing with a 15" front firing through right side wall at listening position. Equipment rack is flush with the right side wall. I had a dedicated 2 ch room in the finished basement but that's been reperpoused so now I'm trying to use the two systems in the same room. The space is 14ft wide x 20ft deep. The floor standing speakers are 9' 6" center to center. The listening position is 10' from the face of each with 5' behind to the back wall. The room is acoustically good and tight, no windows and one solid core entry door behind the chairs. There are minimal wall reflections and I'm changing up the acoustic treatments. I always subbed out that portion of theater builds but I'm on my own with this one. I'm planning on a simple combination of absorption and deflection panels on the side walls. No corner bass traps as of yet, surprisingly no issues have arisen. The 2 ch system gets the most time by far and I want to be careful not to deaden the room. I know what do do with the walls but I'm not sure I need to bother with the ceiling much. Now the kicker....the rack between the speakers as it protrudes into the room. The way these speakers project and disperse the sound has me experiencing no problems as currently configured. I sure don't want to cut into the stage to recess it and I don't want it off to the side. I know purists and perfectionists frown on this....but hey. For anyone that might be reading this I'd appreciate any input or suggestions, Thanks

  13. Thank You Sir, I appreciate your input. I do trust my ears, very much actually. These speakers have been part of my system less than a year and I'm constantly amazed at what they're capable of. I'm very happy with the complete setup and having listened to music critically for over 40 years squeezing every bit of performance out of the systems I've owned...I'm more content now than ever.

  19. That Kenwood amp is beautiful, and it probably sounds pleasing, but the new gear, like that Yamaha unit you mentioned, will have more detail and clarity. If you save up a few more euros, you could get a Yamaha model that’s higher in the range, and that would be even better. Years ago, I went from a mid-range 1977 Yamaha CR-1020 to a used bottom-of-the-range 1998 RX-V392, and the difference was surprising. I had to remove the 1980s Yamaha EQ-70 graphic equalizer from the system, because with the newer receiver, it was obvious that it put a “veil” over the sound. With the older receiver, you couldn’t tell that the EQ was in the signal chain. I took it out of that signal chain and instead used one channel of it to EQ the subwoofer, reducing some peaks and dips in its response. It was fine in that role, because our ears don’t hear low bass sounds with such accuracy and detail as we hear mid-range sounds. PWK was right about that. The next year I got a new 2005 RX-V750 (better again, quite clearly), and in 2016, a new RX-A2060 (Aventage Series, even better again). The lesson for me was that the engineers at Yamaha (plus Kenwood, Klipsch, and nearly every other audio gear company, presumably) have not been drinking coffee and making paper airplanes for the last forty years. They’ve been improving the gear, and it’s easy to hear how much more clear and accurate the new stuff is. In short, the new stuff sounds much more clear and has higher fidelity, and isn’t that what we’re all after, with our high-performance speakers and everything that goes with them? The old gear looks great in some cases, and may sound kind of good, but it’s a bit like watching a standard definition TV fed by a VCR. Okay, I should have just used that sentence at the start.

  23. At a price of $5,500, you are in the range of buying a used (underground-) Jubilee. Although the Klipschorn is a good sounding speaker, the Jubilee is better. --- Hands down better! Note: I have personally enjoyed and lived with both. They are no longer manufactured and they are somewhat hard to find on the used market. So it would take some diligence. The OP said these were for a living room, so below is an example of what Kudret did to make his Jubilees more living room friendly. There are other variations also, although his implementation is probably within the capabilities of many DIYers. This is meant as food for thought .... Good luck, -Tom

  27. The speakers are 99% of the equation ,almost any competent amplifier powering your Lascala’s will essentially sound the same as any other ,so any decent AV receiver will work just fine with your new speakers ,IMHO. Enjoy your awesome new speakers , another Lascala or at least another big heritage speaker would work for center , another Lascala being by far your best choice .Be careful about crossing over those high output speakers with an undersized subwoofer ,because it won’t keep up , and you’ll be very weak below crossover point .(very bad).To avoid this problem run your speakers full range and augment the Lascala’s where they naturally fall off .Congrats on your very fine new speakers and welcome to the forum🤓

  28. Based on your descriptions I would suggest that you “trust your ears” and not make changes based on some preconceived ideas of how a room should be acoustically treated. The most valid and ultimate test of your system’s performance is the listening experience and it sounds like you have an excellent performing system/room. PWK noted loudspeakers having well designed controlled directivity have many advantages in reducing distortion for a given sound level along with advantages in direct versus reflective ratios as experienced at the listening position in typical home listening rooms and in your situation as described by your listening experience it sounds like the controlled directivity advantage means the use of typical absorption panels and their placement aren’t necessary in your room/setup and could actually head you in a wrong direction so proceed with caution would be my advice at this point. miketn

  30. I'm happy for Coach K and the team.... the game wasn't very exciting, though. I'll be leaning toward St. Peter's. I like the "Where did these guys come from?" factor. They have nothing to lose. Have to agree with Neil. They might be over their heads now... again.. still

  31. I found this old Klipschorn (AK4) sweep w/ Audyssey. I don't see anything here (frequency-wise) that I'd think would rob violins of their wood sound -- could be wrong. I assume the 43Hz peak is a room anomaly. I will give the Haydn a listen tomorrow, through this horn and its mate, and post my impression.

  32. Well mzkitty already raved about the new WE 300b tubes. Someone with that many jubilees and Roy's sub designs is pretty discerning in my book. 😉 The plant has a great facility here. They have a five year warranty on them. Going to be interesting to see what they do first.

  36. I think another pair of older KHorns would be more of a lateral move, at best. And that price is on the high side of reality. Even in this over-priced world. Never owned KHorns, never owned a house with a room big enough to appreciate them so I’ve been told. I do have two pairs of LaScalas (LSI Splits) and a pair of Peavey FH-1 bass bins that I play around with. I am a big fan of a better tweeter than than the K-77 for starters. The Crites CT-120 and Dave A’s SMAHL with a DE-120 driver are affordable and reversible options that slot right into the existing tophat. I own both. A 2” throat mid driver on an appropriate mid horn is an ear opening experience, but now you are into some serious coin and some woodworking, unless you buy the Volti package. The Elliptrac 400 gets huge praise. Lots of driver options. I have a couple of 2” drivers and horns I play around with. There is a PRV D2200Ph driver and a ZXPC 18 x 10 horn that is a really economical experiment which sounds incredible for the money and would work with your existing crossovers with the addition of a cheap inductor you could mount on a separate board. The woofers can be swapped out relatively inexpensively with the Crites CW1526 and if you don’t like them, I would be one of several people that would buy them off you in the Garage Sale section of this forum in a heartbeat. Always looking for another pair of these... Crossovers are a personal choice. The AA you have are highly regarded by many on here. If you are going to stray from tried and tested designs you may want one with adjustable attenuation for the mids and tweeters. The ALK universal or a clone comes to mind. You could probably completely, and reversibly, transform your existing speakers for half of the asking price of those KHorns.

  37. Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. Does this look like "RED" to you? I waited 6 weeks longer to get the exclusive red color. 🤬 They told me this thing can take selfies, and with 5 camera lenses I thought no problem, but nope, I still had to take the picture of this phone using my other phone. 🤳

  38. We had a great spring week, averaging 68 F and 12 hours of sunshine daily, wonderful. I use these days to go to Holland for a few hours every day. To Venlo , a nearby Dutch border town. Venlo is a Dutch city and municipality in the province of Limburg. As of January 1, 2022, the municipality had 102,128 inhabitants. The river Maas flows through Venlo. The city is about 1 hour drive away. Many groceries are cheaper here and also especially fresh, so I like to shop here. Especially fresh here is the fish and of course all the delicious cheeses. The Dutch are a totally laid back lovely people, I love spending time there. Some impressions ...... Of course, because it is legal in the Netherlands, I occasionally visit a Dutch coffeeshop. Looks like that " Snoop Doggy Dog " was here as well
