  11. I agree with about half of what you say there, and not at all with the other half. Yes, in spite of all the measurements, home audio can still be pretty subjective, with some very dedicated fans of one type of equipment or another. Where I strongly disagree is with your statements that minds cannot be changed. That suggests a closed mind, or even two or more factions, each with their own closed minds. That's the opposite of what the Forum is about, as I see it, anyway. We're here to exchange and share ideas, and to share the joy that our sound systems bring us. Yes, I know that some guys would not ever want to admit to using the word "joy", when they're sober, anyway, but that's what great sound, or great bikes or cars, for that matter, can bring us. Yes, belittling and name calling, in other than well-intended attempts at humour, bring down the level of everything good on the Forum, so that's obviously no good. I'll mention something that I think I've only mentioned once before, a long time ago, so there should be no eye-rolling if I relate it again. Here it is: I've been a big motorbike fan since I was a teenager, and I still enjoy talking about them. One day I got chatting with a co-worker, back when I was a millwright. He told me that over a long period of time, he'd owned a BMW RT sport-touring bike, a Harley-Davidson Sportster, and a Honda Gold Wing. He'd found that each one was a good bike, very effective at the type of riding it was intended for, and just what he liked when he'd owned it. What made him laugh was that each bike had its own group of dedicated, maybe dedicated to the point of being rabid, deadly serious fans. As far as each group was concerned, their Chosen Bike was the greatest thing on two wheels, and anything else was pretentious trash, ridden by ill-informed suckers who either would benefit from hearing what they should be riding, or who were too far gone to learn anything at this point. Sound familiar? No, we don't have to get along, but it's a much better Forum if we do. Also, there's so much that we can learn here. As well as making friends, I've probably tripled what I knew and thought I knew when I first joined. Let's keep it that way, friends.

  19. @grasshopper when I was little we talked about it at grade school. Teacher said it was enacted to help family farms have enough daylight hours to collect and store the crops. Don't think they had those similar to daylight lighting systems back then! Dark thirty? You lucky- duck! It was whenever I heard my name called and I guess it was more quiet back then because everyone could hear their own mom calling. If she was angry... my middle name was included.

  21. Blah, 34 here in Sherwood Forest a suburb of Duckburg @ 3PM. Robin Hood across the street has been out blowing it all away from his over-grown mansion. Heard a blower all morning and finally had to slip out the front door to grab a couple lp's that showed up yesterday. lol Then figured I'd slip out and grab one of @JohnJ's favs. A nice big Gyro w/fries. Came home and there was Robin on his lil John Deere tractor just startin the clean up. He smiles and waves so I waved back. Inside I was laffin my rear off. An old jacket n jeans wearing his Elmer Fudd plaid hat with the earflaps down. Think Imma gonna wait since it's gonna be mid 40's Thursday and Friday. Maybe I'm missin sumpin but at least that's some of his garbage that won't blow my way. Kid to the South of me raked everything up around the base of his two trees in the front yard. That's all headin my way too w/the wind. Mr nice guy is gonna hit this place once or twice this year and forget it. What I don't get will blow to the neighbors just North of me. Maybe a dawn to dusk curfew would work for this dude. I just don't get it. lolol

  22. Yes, the Jubilee requires biamping since the crossover is active (a DSP) and operates at line level before amplification. So, each speaker requires two channels of amplification. Since I'm using identical amps, I am vertically biamping, i.e., one stereo amplifier per speaker. If you wanted to use a different type of amp for the HF (say a tube amp) and the LF (say a solid state amp), then you would horizontally biamp.

  23. They are definitely needed for using different amps for HF and LF as many power amps do not have gain controls. All the power amps I own, including the ones I'm using with the Jubilee, do not have any gain control. I personally don't need them because I'm using identical amps for HF and LF, but not everyone will. Unfortunately, the Jubilee manual does not mention this either.

  31. Sure that is a good idea especially if they are close. Exhibitions like that are not best places for critical listening sessions. And for systems where you have possibilities for adjustments on one hand that is great tool on the other hand it gives you possibility to "break" something really bad. For KHorns you cannot adjust anything and they were great with deep, firm, snapy bass. And Jubilees even on youtube sessions, trough some random microphone and headphones, they sound interesting so I assume properly set up they should be great. I guess great power comes with great responsibility.

  32. I built stands for my three nine sixes from 4x4 lumber. I located the 510 same height as the center point of the 402 atop the Jube bass bin(s). Cut the lumber at same angle that match the trapezoidal shape the 396 cabinet, 11 or 13 degrees, I can’t remember which at this time. Painted flat black and sturdy as helll.

  33. After looking at the Jubilee setup in the picture and your comments about them fiddling with the DSP bass/treble gain controls, I'm fairly confident in saying that you probably did not hear Jubilee as they should sound. Unfortunately, I think some of the blame rests with Klipsch for not providing adequate detailed guidance for properly setting the Jubilee up. The manual is definitely inadequate for the task. After having them in my relatively small living room for a year and a half now, I have some of my own "lessons learned" that I'm hoping will make it into a future version of the manual or at least a Klipsch blog post linked to the product page. The first is to have speakers positioned such that main listening position is as close to on-axis of the K-402 horn as is practical, both horizontally (i.e., via proper toe in) and vertically (i.e., tilt the horn down as necessary). The manual gets the toe in part mostly correct but does not mention anything about possibly tilting the horn down when needed. Next is getting the in-room bass response correct. This is where Klipsch really needs to provide guidance as what I'm about to say I only know because of my own experience or from information that came directly from @Chief bonehead. Unlike the Klipschorn or the Underground Jubilee, the new Jubilee does not need to be near a corner for full bass response. Roy has said on this forum that the Heritage Jubilee is designed to curve flat in half-space (on the floor away from the room walls). This is not mentioned in the manual. So, once the new Jubilee are placed near walls or corners (as they will likely be in most normal-sized rooms), there will be room gain that will cause a departure from flat response. They can start to sound boomy. In my room most of this gain was in the very low end (20 - 30 Hz range), so it wasn't apparent when listening to a lot of pop/rock material. However, once I put on material that had significant content in that range (e.g., certain orchestral music), things became unlistenable. This cannot be corrected with the gain knobs on the DSP as that's not what they are for. Some other form of bass room correction is needed to fix this. Unfortunately, the Jubilee DSP cannot be used for this as the end user cannot modify the settings. I feel that this is a mistake on Klipsch's part. They should open up the DSP for those who know what they are doing. This forces the user to use an additional level of processing for bass correction, either automatic room correction systems like Audyssey, Dirac, etc. or manually with another DSP or parametric EQ. Luckily, my processor has a multichannel parametric EQ built-in that is compatible with REW. So, at least I didn't need any other external gear to do this correction manually in my room. I have a feeling that the people running the demo at that show weren't aware of any of this. Therefore, they were constantly fiddling with the bass in the hope of getting it right and failing.

  34. Well apparently it was good for the farmers way back when. But not sure how many of them have been eradicated in the last decade or two. Sad but true. That extra hour was really good back when I was lit all the time that did last call twice that night! Hey, I posted something by that band yesterday or the day before!

  35. A single ended ,SET, tube amplifier will never need re-biasing if done correctly when built. Majority that is, the ones with cathode biasing which most are. If biased correctly the tubes will more than likely never need replacing depending of course on tubes used. In other words no maintenance just like a SS amplifier.

  45. @grasshopper Sorry to hear about that second wifey. Good thing mama bear did some nosin. Man that kind of stuff makes me wonder. I think the oldest checks to see if I'm on line daily. At least that's what she told me. lol Otherwise I could be laying around for days blowing up like a small Goodyear blimp. My buddy the mailman keeps an eye on things too. lol He's getting close to retirement though. The lil hotty that's gonna replace him just doesn't have it figured out yet. lol Normal today. He gives me a couple days to get my mail and if I don't he's bangin on the front window laffin at me. Cruel and unusual punishment for sure. That Kona is like drinking JP4 for me. I put on my roller skates when I drink that stuff. Lil tune for ya weather wise. Enjoy!
