  2. Well I got them all cleaned up using light soap and damp clothes. I went with a natural slightly tinted wax to seal and protect. We have used this over the last 20 years on a couple other wood furniture pieces we have. Yes the speakers sound awesome (running cds through it). Love em. I did some research and wanted to do some tube amps and decided on a new build from getdynaco so I got a st70 and soon to arrive pas-3 or M preamp. I also have a new turntable coming in on Monday. It will be interesting but something I’ve had on my mind for many year is to have vinyl (ones created from analog source) and tube amp with klipsch belles, klipschorn … but these LaScalas will fit the bill in this room. I do have other rooms I’ll need to look over if I do see a klipschorn near me at a fantastic price lol. The AA crossover sound great to me but I understand will need new caps for longevity. I wanted to get my new gear going and listening for a bit and then do the upgrade. So not too many changes at once. thanks again all, for the great information.

  3. Well I've got an update too. I'm in my new house! It's not actually mine yet because the bank still dragging their feet but with the weather like it was. I called to ask my guy if the bank would pay for a couple nights in a hotel for me until they got the paperwork here for us to do the deal. He let me know that him and the selling agent were working on getting me in that night which was yesterday. So I signed a little document to get in prior to closing and I'm in my new place. It's tiring. I cleaned this place yesterday. Everything but in the cabinets, windows and the toilet. I wiped it off of course but not really cleaned it. And today I have educated myself about leaf blowers. I got one that can blow 170 mph and I thought jeeze cat five that'll work! Wrong. It's flat out not good enough. Not enough when you're in a forest. I'll clean it up, take it back and get one that does 250 mph. So I'm taking a break and heating some chili that I got to add jalapenos to this time. Also heating the coffee I made earlier today. Didn't take pics but it did happen after I warm up and dry off. I'll go back out in the cold rain and finish the driveway. I'm up at the top and it's pretty deep up there! Felt nice to be under a roof again and without the approximate $80 charge. Nope it's the empty the bank account charge. Delete the six figures and the comma then go back to what's been normal for me except this is extraordinary because it's mine! https://postimg.cc/ZCM4kMxW

  8. The list of amps especially solid state that descriptions fit are way, way too long to list... The same can be stated for amps that test not so good but sound great! Many of those would be tube amps! In the end spec list buying is for retards!! Sorry but my BS fuse is still very short LOL

  9. Thank you man! Yeah but it wasn't heavy rain and less gets through the woods even with the leaves on the ground instead of in the trees. So the rain stopped but I'm just worn out after being sitting on my tail for 4 months. Ate that good hot chili and the coffee once the cup cooled down a little. And I'm going to take a nap. Feeling old right now but I'll get out there and clear from the high spot down to the road before dark.

Congrats kinda maybe but you'll git her done me thinks. Then we'll let ya know when we're all coming in for the partay! Right now just kick back and one thing at a time til ya get it closed and own it! Then it's balls to the wall. 😂

  20. good man! I tune amps & preamps by ear, then confirm with appropriate and relative test procedures. If it sounds great but tests bad, you're testing the wrong damn thing! In reality you can get great sound with reasonable test scores to back it up. The perfect specs usually sound like dung, at least to me!

  23. Many feel that SEC bias was a factor in Florida State being left out of the College Football Playoff following an undefeated season, and at least one coach from the conference is unhappy with the snub. Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz discussed the College Football Playoff controversy during a Thursday appearance on SiriusXM’s College Sports Radio. Drinkwitz said he finds it absurd that a quarterback injury was the justification for excluding Florida State from the four-team field. Two sides to every coin applies here! lol Here is what has bothered me since the beginning of the Playoff system. ESPN is nothing more than a media outlet. Just like CBS, NBC, ABC and others. WHY is ESPN even allowed in anything to do with the committee's decisions? They always have had their nose stuck in there. The dude that started ESPN went to school where? Bama, Ga or somewhere down there and vowed early on there would always be a one of that conferences teams in the playoffs. How ya think they got as big as they are today? Any other conferences that wanted prime time exposure HAD to crawl on board w/ESPN. That's the crux of the problem as I and many others in sports news see it. The NCAA has made some attempts to change it up but nothing to speak of has happened. ESPN is just another news outlet why should they rule the world? That's ALWAYS held true. Prove me wrong.

  26. The F3 is a better amplifier than the ACA. I have built them both. The ACA is a simple circuit amplifier designed by Nelson as a diy project for a beginner amplifier builder to get a taste of what a class A mosfet amplifier sounds like. The F3 uses what is called power J-fets which also the more modern Firstwatt J2 uses. If you want more details of the F3 circuit you can look here. https://firstwatt.com/pdf/art_zv9.pdf The Zen 9 from 2006 is the same circuit retailed as the F3. Both are very good sounding but if hearing good enough you will hear a difference in the F3.

  30. This comment right here. After trying between three 2.0 USB sticks (1x 8G Cruzer, 1x 8G SanDisk, and 1x 128MB microsd in a USB adaptor for kicks and giggles) and between the windows formatting utility and the mac disk utility, nothing worked. Long search on the youtubes and reddit left empty handed but this comment. After formatting one last time with Rufus using Free Dos and MBR, not worrying with the default freeDOS files in the root and moving over the new firmware files. Safely removed, popped usb in the speakers and then applied power, and the lights finally did the dance. Thank you @insid4r

IF you can be honest with yourself you saw it coming too! Silly Humans! 😂 😎 Corrigan Collusion: The Head Of The College Football Playoff Committee And The VP Of Production At ESPN Are Brothers John Rich12/08/2023 5:16 PM BREAKING: Bombshell Evidence has come out linking the CFP Committee's Head Chair to ESPN... The Head of the College Football Playoff Committee is NC State Wolfpack AD Boo Corrigan. Corrigan's already been criticized for his bias against FSU as a fellow ACC Athletic Director. 0 Now here's where it gets even WEIRDER... Boo's brother is Tim Corrigan, the VP of Production at ESPN Given ESPN's close ties to the SEC, it would've benefitted the company to steal Florida State's Playoff spot & give it to Alabama... It's already troubling how closely intertwined the CFP Committee & ESPN are organizations... but we didn't know there were FAMILY TIES between the executives of the two organizations Was there 'Corrigan Collusion', or was this all just a coincidence? Kinda funny. I remember OSU winning a Natty one year with a third string QB. So now there's one heck of a QB w/a broken leg who, along with his teammate's and Uni are deprived of a chance to play as one of the top 4 in the country? Ole Nicky has his team in there though. THAT you can take to the bank.

  34. Absolutely. but perhaps not as much of a difference as Roy’s PEQ settings for the Jubescala. The LS bass bin has a massive bump around 148Hz and some EQ to flatten it out really helps the low end definition. Put the EQ together with the braced sidewalls and it’s much better.

  36. Got an update a while ago. I've been in the house that it flooded years ago. The owner owned the Duckburg lumber company here. The entire basemen was panelled w/4" knotty pine, had a nice bar with a fire place down there too. Guess the water was coming out of the basement windows. I mean it's not funny but... Was a state of the art ranch style surrounded w/a few nice trees back in the day. They'll be back here tomorrow and I'm gonna be gone all day soooooo. 😂

  40. The only other brand(s) I ever really considered outside of Klipsch were Altec and JBL (two sides of the same coin), particularly the vintage JBL like the Sovereign and Apollo series cabinets and similars employing the LE15/LE85-DLH175-375 midranges/077 cat's eye tweeters and other vintage horn setups of similar thinking......but ultimately when it came to the VALUE presented by the original Klipsch Heritage line of speakers, and how well those ended up being addressed in the aftermarket as well as having a pretty continuous "universal" ability to obtain service (drivers still sold by Klipsch and even Dean will build Klipsch authorized replacement networks for those line of speakers) tells me that I chose wisely and "saw the future" when deciding to invest in my Heritage cabs some 20+ years ago. While it is true that the JBL drivers are of a better class than the Heritage line used through that time, the Klipsch got more "results for the input" on the value side, and looking out into the future all those years ago told me that the Klipsch lasted longer (no surround refoams every 10 years) along with knowing that any drivers going dead otherwise would be an extreme cost that I probably could not "self insure" without brain a bank breaker in and of itself with the JBLs. It was sufficiently easy to obtain a trio of matched-driver Cornwall pairs and know that I could maintain and take care of them for a lifetime of service, and would be able to afford to "take care of them" because there were so many options in the marketplace to allow for that service to be done that the Cornwalls and Belles made sense as "life investments". Great results from affordable and common parts. There's always "better" but within the realm of "pretty damned good" and never really having to worry much about doing it all over again made it such that Klipsch was the right choice. Heritage really are "speakers for life" and the genius of the original PWK designs evident. If one kept the cabs in good shape one could completely rebuild the innards and run 'em for another 30-50 years. There's little else I could ever say that about any other product in ANY category, let alone audio, so I know I made the right choice. I literally wore out the first HT kit that drove those Cornwalls but the speakers are still here with a newer Mac core running the show. Took almost 20 years to wear out an amp but I found a way......tens of thousands of hours.....but the Cornwalls are still "The Speaker Of The House". Can't justify moving the beasts for anything else.

  43. Congrats! You got a fantastic buy by today's market! Most would have paid $2k for those. I don't need a pair and couldn't walk from those for even $1500. I'd buy a set to have in storage for that price. I used LaScala for a decade before moving to Khorns. If you run a subwoofer with those, you aren't missing much from the Khorns. Wonderful to hear your wife's impression. My wife had the same...and had the same again when I changed to Khorn. Nice to have their approval. I wouldn't be afraid to change the caps. I used JEM. Pull the entire crossover out. Break it apart and clean all connections well. I used a little sandpaper on all connections and then Qtip with alcohol. Sand all the spade connectors too. Honestly, I didn't hear any difference with the caps and cleaning...but I feel better about it. I would enjoy hearing ongoing impressions and experiences!

  44. I looked them over they looked pretty good and they were hooked to an older denon ss amp. The setup and spacing wasn’t great but the speakers sounded clear and really good as I was hoping they would. I was hoping i wouldn’t hear something off and didn’t. I loved the sound and overall appearance and they seem to be survivors so i bought them! We loaded them up and drove 2.5 hours home and have them in my 1st floor hallway as i type this and plan to move them upstairs tomorrow. Dang these are heavy! Im planning to order a new dynaco st70 and pas preamp. I was looking at some vintage gear but I think I’ll take my time and start with new tubes. The vintage gear was hk citation 1 with dynaco mark iii mono amps… but maybe as i get into this I’ll have various gear as i go.

  45. Welcome to the forum. Your LaScala look absolutely honest and original. In my opinion, they were bought very attractively for USD 1,000. Others will know better than I do, but the configuration of your LaScala is absolutely historically correct. The drivers are very original and the Type AA Xover also looks very original even with the authentic Klipsch wire, red and white, which I never would change against something „fancy“ from today.. Klipsch built it like this in the early 80s. Original with K77M. I wouldn't swap the original drivers if I were you, I think there was some confusion here in the forum a few weeks ago about the choice of K55V dual phase plug together with Type AA Xover...a confusion that has never been discussed before...as if the dual phase plug K55V wouldn't harmonise with a Type AA? I think this is BS as PWK himself would say in this case, and he designed it. If I were you, I would first leave everything as it is and listen. I would replace things in this order. First new rubber rings between K55V and K400 horn. Then just listen to see if the treble is too muffled. It could be that the Aerovox capacitors are too old. If they are already wet and leaking oil, I would replace them. There is a dealer JEM who sells the customised and selected polyester caps for your Type AA. Only they are Klipsch approved and it really doesn't make sense to use anything else because Klipsch was really looking to restore the original good sound. JEM is mentioned in the upper fixed zone in the Technical/Restoration zone. There really isn't much more to do for now. The bass should last forever if kept dry and not abused. Never change the coils and especially the autoformers of the Xover, they are worth their weight in gold and have a big impact on the original sound. I only realised this at the end of an odyssey after I had some wrong parts in my 1977 LaScala. You can also reseal the bass cabinet with thin insulating tape on the underside. Maybe you can think about replacing the diaphragms of the K55V with original new ones, but that would be one of the last measures of a fine tuning. In the meantime, have fun with your very great new acquisition.

  48. Recent developments and advancements in the understanding of all things Klipsch have led to the conclusion that the K-77-M should not be used with an AA crossover. It is too hot. WAY too hot. The K-77-M is pictured in this pair of La Scalas. The AA crossover was also designed to be used with the single phase K-55-V. In the speakers pictured here the date code is “W” which would imply the dual phase plug (soldered lug) K-55-V is used. The dual phase plug driver extends higher than the single phase plug driver and is not optimal for the AA crossover as designed. Whether these came stock from Klipsch like this, or they were modified, I don’t know. I do know there were anomalies during driver and crossover changeover years. But as these stand right now, they are not representative of what the Klipsch sound should be, according to recent discussions on here, with all the graphs to prove it. Don’t despair, others in better condition for the same price will be along soon enough. And when they do show up don’t hesitate to ask away on here. Welcome to the forum,
