Ceptorman
Mark, can't beat free tools. A couple years ago I was wiring up a new snowplow on my truck. I was using a $150 flashlight working down around the alternator. When I finished and shut the hood I couldn't locate the flashlight, looked everywhere. I had to get plowing so I left and plowed all night. About 6 months later I found the flashlight buried in the suspension and brakelines on the passenger side….it still worked!
JL Sargent
On that radiator. Good tip about the cable tie Jason. I didn't see that soon enough. Anyway I was able to weld the radiator and it all looked pretty good but still had the tiniest little pin hole spraying water afterwards when under pressure. I decided that was enough welding fun and went on back to the parts store for a new radiator. All back together now and all is well. Moderators dtel Posted March 17, 2016 Moderators Share Posted March 17, 2016 You know it's time for new glasses when you pop a hun in the quarter slot machine, play two lines, pull twice and the credits are gone. It was $25.00 not $0.25 The real trick is to visit a casino, snuffle down the good cheap food and leave without risking a penny of the family fortune gaming. I have alot of practice doing just that, I have no problem walking right past everyone spending money to get to the restaurant..
RRR
Lol lol.... Look what I found clamped on to the tie rod on this Odyssey Van....some mechanic left his Vise Grips on. Looks like they have been there for some time.... There mine now....a few seconds in the glass bead cabinet and there live in my tool box... Yea man free tools.... MKP :-) I always purchased the safety orange handle Snap On tools exactly for this reason. Still left stuff under the hood at times. Find a few, lose a few. Just how it goes i guess.

oldtimer
Mine have always been more short lived than I would like. It's not like I can't grow things and keep them alive for decades, but those things are eluding me. I'm trying to switch to some redbuds which aren't as pretty in the foliage department but have a good flowering display.

You should send that pic and story to Vice Grip, it's a good advertisement for them, considering where it was it's a wonder it never came loose

Moderators dtel Posted March 18, 2016 Moderators Share Posted March 18, 2016 Japanese maplesalways been a fan of the japanese maple. nice looking tree. It's my favorite plant, we had 25+ different ones. Not nearly as many now only 8, the nursery where they came from must have had a problem with dieback and it was spread from tree to tree when trimming if cutters are not cleaned between trees. There is nothing that can be done about it once they get it, one branch will die off over the years until the whole tree is dead. Lost some really nice trees, made me sick.

Moderators dtel Posted March 18, 2016 Moderators Share Posted March 18, 2016 (edited) Dtel, what is the difference between those and the 'lace leaf' maple ? We have them here in the NE... There are over 300 different named varieties of Japanese maples, there are many different style leaves from normal maple shaped leaves to leaves cut all the way back to the stem which is called Dissectum. The main obvious differences is upright growers compared to weeping and color which is reds to greens and many colors in between. They grow great in the North which is where many of the bigger growers are, also out in Oregon where one of the better gardens is located, I would like to go see it one day. In the South it's best to plant them where they get a little shade for the more delicate varieties, the sun can be rough on some down here. http://japanesegarden.com/learn-more/the-five-gardens/ Edited March 18, 2016 by dtel
USNRET
Back home after the New Mexico trip. 13 hours from Ruidoso to the White Sands Monument, thru El Paso. Not bad for this family. While gone N.E. Texas had a little blow early this morning. Here is a photo of the storm as it passed about 200 yards behind my mother's place.Edit: as it passed over town added Edited March 18, 2016 by USNRET
