Up, family fine. Must take stock of situation, just checking in.

Amazing.  Appears you dodged a bullet.  Still having power after that level of storm is more than a little surprising.  I didn't get power for 5 days after Ike and some didn't get it for several weeks.

Sad part is the water event has started.  That said, the damage from flooding now will likely outstrip the hurricane plowing on shore.

Seems our guest rabbit will not be leaving until around Wednesday and the predictions are that the huge amounts of rain may be under blown.

All the best to Mike in Corpus.   Looks like he was 30 or 40 miles from the center of a cat 4.  No fun.

Luckley he is on the West side, north winds are much better overall, he possibly got lucky, hope so. For now it looks like you are just far enough out the way, hope that continues.

If it sticks around as long as they expect, rainfall will be the biggest problem left to deal with.

Gentlemen, place yer bets...

So far defying prediction...which is good news so far for Houston.   Gone much farther NW than NOAA predicted and no sign of the turn yet.  Good both because it may not turn at all, and it's looking unlikely to get back over the Gulf for a recharge.

My Aunt and Uncle are in Rockport but came up to Austin on Thursday, we are trying to figure out if we should take then back tomorrow or Monday to get them situated.  He is a retired EE and has house wired up to big generator to run fridge, microwave and AC.

May fly them back down to get a birds eye view of traffic and logistics first.

Luther is on NE side of SA I think they may still get pounded.  He is high and dry but wind may wreak some havoc with trees and power.

Given the unpredictability of this pookah at the moment, probably a take it day at a time thing.  Especially flying.

For Houston, this could be another Allison...the only tropical storm to have its name retired.  40" of rain, 9 billion in damage.

The weather channel said eastern Texas hasn't seen a storm like this in 50 years.

Good still. Estimated power outage 3-7 days. Generator sucking gas powering everything but a/c system. folks here are entitled to their own opinion but I can tell you first hand that if I was not carrying today at gas station bad would have been very ugly between me and the three bad folks.

one looter died in the doorway as he broke in with owner at home. That was a few miles away last night.

It's not bad at all here. The eye, or what's left of the storms' eye,  is situated between New Braunfels and San Marcos........ about 18 or 20 miles east of me. Rain has been relatively light, but steady. Since last night we have accumulated about 1 3/4 inches of rain. I have a couple rain gauges setup around the property. I was hoping and expecting more rain. The lawn looks like hell, and we have been under watering restrictions.... that's how dry it's been here.

Winds are about 25mph, with gust to 40 mph or so.

That is for every individual to decide on their own. Decide, learn, practice, know your own personal fiber and understand that you must take crap before being what some folks accuse you of being when you are just a dude. That is in public; in my house, no latitude.

didn't want this to go there just first hand experience when crap happens and impatient, tattooed, marked bandanna wearing hoodilums get in your space.

mistype, spell, meaning could be misconstrued on iPad and hot spot

Seems like the TV field reporters (ie human wind gauges) were issued improved microphones - hardly any wind noise so none of the usual shouting into the storm.   Stay safe down there and resist the urge to play with any displaced alligators.
