    • When we were in Hope Roy discussed exactly how to swap the doghouse, it comes right out.......you actually can get a whole new doghouse with the 12" woofer and ports already installed as part of the upgrade package.  Or....you can leave the 15" woofer and doghouse as is.  You can op to just change the top horns and drivers.  This can be done to any lascala.  The new tweeter is much bigger and some significant routing and maybe even tweeter trimming would need to be done.  But it's possible.   If you chose to replace the top horns/drivers and the doghouse the only thing left of an AL5 is the outside frame and top hat.  It's really quite a job to upgrade to an AL6.  Several of us basically said just get the new lascalas, as you also mention.  By the time you try and replace the doghouse you may scratch the heck out of what's left and you have to hope the new doghouse matches the veneer you have.  Knowing what I know from being there, I would never try it.
    • I use my “Table Tuba”, as a table. Currently serving as additional vinyl storage. It would probably be ok to use for electronics, my TT is big and doesn’t transfer a lot of vibration, but some. It might cause some issues with CD player, and maybe the receiver over time?  I’d say that amp is enough. I’m using a 300w Dayton with my T18 in the family room, it’s more than enough, now that system rarely is pushed hard, so you might want a bit more power if you are rocking out. Room placement varies, but you’ll likely get more oomph in a corner, but try & see. Sometimes placement is dictated by the space & not always ultimate sound quality, blasphemy, to many, I realize.  Let’s see some build pics.
    • The AL6 comes with an internal crossover, the DSP crossover is an option. And then there is choice of using an ANALOG crossover (3 way of course) into the power amps.
    • Aside from low end bass response , how does the AL5  compare to the Jubilee. I do remember you mentioning the Jubilee having a bit less of a live sound. I think a lot of people would be interested in some comparison , like impact , detail and immediacy , for example.
    • Great speakers and that's a fair price. I refinished mine by sanding the paint, oiling the wood, and painting the grills black. They are voiced very well and sound great with the large horn.  GLWYS
    • if you take into account the presumed price of the upgrade kit for the AL6, then you have ended up destroying one of two possible LaScalas. I also think that it will always retain its value, and there will always be people who, regardless of the sound, simply don't like all this additional fiddling with active and two amplifiers.  I think you made the right decision, @Flevoman. And it's not set in stone for all eternity.
    • Yeah, the paint job is not for sure not an artisan job.  I am sure at the time the goal was to "get these painted and in the air", and in the commercial world we tend to not consider the same details as the gear aficionado.  The quality of the paint is pretty good from 16' away. Thanks!
    • I think just the opposite , the AL5 will increase in value, plug and play passive , I love it . The older Lascala speakers are no slouch , I think they all possess the same fundamental live music experience that makes them  unique and highly desirable. In some ways I actually prefer the old sound, For example I’m a big fan of the AL3 , I’d keep them .
    • when you adjust the volume on your device (phone or tablet) by 1 point, it automatically increse the volume leven on the Three by one point as well.
    • Regardless of the source - one step of the volume makes it just too loud for comfortable background listening. I've partially fixed this issue by adding another bluetooth headphone amp as a preamp. I am connecting my phone with that preamp, then run it to the Three RCA input. So I can reduce the volume by turning the volume down on the preamp. But this setup kinda ruins the very purpose of purchasing the Three Plus at the first place - having nice sleek and vintage looking piece of gear on the nightstand.
