  1. Just the fronts. My long time friend of oh... 30 years now and I are sipping some brews and watching a live Rush Blu-ray that my wife gave me for my birthday. Sounds lovely.

  2. Mercilessly transparent. I suppose it is a bit disappointing to get to the summit of loudspeaker performance only to find the majority of the recorded material is crap. How many times have we seen it and helped a newbie to Klipsch through the denial, rage, acceptance...then the joy of knowing their speakers represent TRVTH. Dave

  9. You might want to wait... I know I am going to wait for 2.2 to be fully implemented. "HDCP stands for High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection. HDCP requires that each HDMI connection establish a unique link between the two devices, often called a handshake. This "handshake" trades encrypted codes between the devices so that you can't plug your Blu-ray player into a recorder and rip a copy. Many of the problems that we hear people having with their HDMI devices comes from this handshake failing. HDCP 2.2 is all about protecting 4k content. That means if you want to stick with 1080p for the time being, you don't have to worry about HDCP 2.2. If you do want 4k content, every device in your video chain must have HDCP 2.2. This will be true in the future where content will be HDCP 2.2 encrypted. Non-2.2 encrypted content will not apply. The problem we've seen is that people are assuming that anything with HDMI 2.0 will have HDCP 2.2. So far, that has not been the case. Our research has shown that there are no devices currently offered that have both a full HDMI 2.0 implementation and HDCP 2.2. Right now, if you've bought (or are thinking of buying) a new receiver from the likes of Denon, Marantz, and Yamaha, you may see HDMI 2.0 on the specification sheet. This is a full 18Gbps HDMI 2.0 port meaning you can realize all the additional benefits of HDMI 2.0. But they don't have HDCP 2.2 so future content may or may not be limited. On the flip side, new Onkyo receivers are listed with HDCP 2.2. What they aren't telling you is that the HDMI 2.0 implementation is limited to 10.2Gbps (just like HDMI 1.4). While this allows the Onkyo receiver to pass the HDCP 2.2 handshake, it will limit how much data can be passed, negating many of the benefits of HDMI 2.0. If the device does NOT show HDCP 2.2 compatibility, when native 4k content arrives, your device will not accept it. If you are shopping for a 4k display, you'll want to look for HDCP 2.2 compatibility as well as resolution and bit depth. Match the display's capabilities with the HDMI 2.0 maximums, and you should be good to go. If the display does NOT show HDCP 2.2 compatibility, when native 4k content arrives, your display will not accept it. On receivers, you'll want to check how many of their inputs/outputs are HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 enabled. Right now, manufacturers are limiting the maximum number to decrease costs. With limited bandwidth on some HDMI 2.0 terminals and lack of HDCP 2.2 on others, you may have to send video directly from your Blu-ray player to your display (bypassing your receiver) if you buy one of the first generation HDMI 2.0 receivers. Conclusion HDCP 2.2 must be on a HDMI 2.0 terminal but not all HDMI connections support the full HDMI 2.0 spec. It is a confusing time as HDMI 2.0 is only now hitting the market. In a year or two, HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 will be ubiquitous. For now, consumers need to purchase with care lest they end up with a device that will become obsolete when native 4k content arrives. If you truly care about native 4k, then make sure ALL of your equipment that you plan on transmitting it through has the hardware support. If the new HDTV or AV Receiver you are contemplating buying now doesn't support HDCP 2.2, you may want to hold off for the next product cycle which is usually 8-10 months for AV receivers and HDTVs. 10. Morning gang: Sunday eh? recovery day, Zip planned. coffee barely making a difference. Lab/Cave monitor project completed, finely an HDTV in the cave and ALL wiring hidden, gone, non existent. On yet another note, i have not been flexing my Volume like i used to before my neighbor complaint,(im sure the locals like that). The guy that complained a month ago, came by the house wile i was gone, left a message he lost my business card. Stopped by his house yesterday, see he has a wife on the porch with him, so i walked up and handed him another card with my phone number on it,(in case of another complaint). This Wacco introduces me to his wife, and in the same breath, being "The Horses Azz" of the neighborhood. this guy is one of those wacked out NamVets, you get that real quick when conversing with him. I just looked at this guy and walked back to my car, holy cow, this is the kind of wacco that is on the edge/drugs for 40+ years. Reminds me of Bruce Durn in the movie "The Burbs".

  12. OK, I just got back from the Marshall game, and we are now 6-0 beating Middle Tennessee 49-24. Before this game, we were ranked #26 in the coaches poll. I didn't check the other polls, but I believe with this win we are a top 25 team. Frankly, I don't see anybody beating us this season. We should end up 12-0 this season with the worst behind us. We will definitely be the Conference USA Champs. Middle Tennessee is #2, and if not for rhythm difficulty in the first half, the score would have been 63-10. Way to go Thundering Herd! http://espn.go.com/college-football/team/_/id/276/marshall-thundering-herd ps: WVU won in a nail biter 55 yard FG. WTG Mountaineers!

Glen is a great guitar player, he was on an episode of "Later…with Jools Holland" a couple of years ago, he sounded great. God bless you.

  18. The best CD player is to rip your CDs in FLAC to a HD and use a music media software to organize the lot as opposed to some wooden shelves. Get an external USB DAC like an HRT music streamer and be prepared to stop having to change CDs. Playlists, yes please. Sound quality, yes please. No jitter, yes please. Cheers

  21. What I don't understand is why anyone here would want to feel obliged to defend those people (in the music recording industry) that have managed to create their own culture to defend their (really terrible) practices, unless they presently enjoy direct financial gains from employing those practices. What I don't understand is how the producers, recordists and artists can stand to play most of their own products at home.

  23. I think a lot of Americans have a feeling of entitlement, They persue that damn the consequences. Which I guess sort of equals selfishness. I lived in Germany for 3 years at which time I really did not notice a big difference between the way they lived, and we lived Perhaps as I get older I just notice it more but I see more of that behavior as I get older

  24. This is the only wall I could have a TV and have it centered on the wall. But with my power reclining sofa its actually perfect. It's also nice for the wifey for when she is in the kitchen. The house wasnt built with HT in mind. I am currently running a Def Tech for my center which isnt too bad but not ideal. But before spending a lot of money for the 64, I want to make sure I can fit it on the mantel. And then hopefully it will support the weight. Going to head up to Lowes and Home Depot and see if I can get some ideas on the mantel. Im just not sure how a 13 inch wide mantel would look. I have too keep in mind if I sell the house someday how it will look without a speaker on it. I have already replaced the orignal and dropped my custom mod mantel down to fit the TV on top and have enough room for the center channel. Nothing else, I suppose I could build a new enclosure and swap the speakers and see how each one sounds. If I built a new enclosure that is not as deep, then I would build it wider to have the same volume.

  26. Nhpeach, Welcome to the forum. I am sorry your father has not been able to live his audio(video) dream and has to purge his wonderful HT setup. What you have here is an incredible system with the best of the best Reference gear Klipsch had to offer at the time, and many say ever. I don't want to squash any of our members hopes of getting this system for pennies on the dollar but we need to be honest in our value assessment. These are a range of average used prices, geographically, condition, etc., they may vary. RSW-15---$500.00 to $800.00 RF-7(pair)---$600.00 to $1000.00 RC-7---$250.00 to $400.00 RS-7(pair)---$300.00 to $450.00 RB-5(pair)---$225 to $400.00 Guys, correct me if I am way off. Bill

  28. Hi and welcome to the forum! Based on your description plus having all the original packaging, this is my opinion a pair of RF- 7 800 to 1200 for the pair RC-7 350 to 500 a pair of RSW-15 750 to 1000 each a pair of RS-7 300 to 500 for the pair a pair of RB -5 200 to 350 for the pair I'd lean to the high side above if they are as described. having the boxes are a big plus if you are willing to ship and opens up a sale to a much larger pool of potential buyers I'm sure a lot of others will chime in soon.......good luck!

  30. Consequences? Like what would you want? The stock market is a place where people place bets. A lot of people are looking for abnormally high returns. When they see assets going up 30% per year, they are all gung-ho. It has nothing to do with the value of the asset. It's nothing more than just plain, old exuberance. Eventually, in all cases, we have to learn that exuberance really has no inherent value. Then, follows the bust. This is not crime. This is people gambling. There is so much emphasis on who hid what, what was not disclosed, phony mortgage applications, phony appraisals, etc., but you know what? Not a single investor would have listened, read or investigated if all the information was put in front of them. Chris (tigerwood) will probably disagree with much of what I have said, but this much is true: The whole stock market fraud (blue sky) law for compensating defrauded investors is a fiction. Here's how it works: Investor's stock plummets. He's unhappy. Lawyers go look at SEC filings. They find bad stuff, or they find bad stuff that was not disclosed. They sue. The fiction comes in because the investor never looked at any SEC stuff to begin with, but it is in the SEC stuff where we look for fraud. What people do is toss their money into the market on the hope of big returns. They are buying things they know absolutely nothing about. When you have that sort of behavior, you will undoubtedly come out with a lot of disappointed people. That's why there are no "consequences" which will ever change this sort of thing. The best thing they could do would be to require actual reliance by the investor who claims stock fraud. Why? Because the investor almost never actually relies on anything and is basically just "placing it on red." So, whether or not anyone lied, he should be allowed to go down in flames without any recovery if he loses his bet. But this will never happen because Wall St. would implode if it worked that way. Word would get out how bad an investment gambling on stocks really is. As long as we have this nonsensical fiction in play, it remains propped up nicely in a way that has at least enough predictability to get you from one cycle to the next and make it all have the appearance of a legitimate economic cycle.

  32. My 2nd grade grand-daughter is taking a 'music appreciation' class at school. An "old guy" with a silver pony-tail plays MIDI-ish music for them, and then asks questions. My daughter asked my grand-daughter what kind of music he plays for them. She replied, "Pop music." "Oh," said my daughter, "popular music, like on the radio." "No," said the grand-daughter, "Pop music, like Pop plays." ('Pop' is my grandchild pseudonym) "You know, music with HIGHS and LOWS."

  34. Sailor not Marine but I use one like these. Easily made.http://www.thecaseworks.com/servlet/Categories?category=Military+Challenge+Coin+Holders+and+Displays Purpose? At one time when someone claimed to have been part of a unit you challenged and a coin must be presented to show proof. It got "more lax" from there. I have a few that have deep meanings and the rest I gave to folks that collect them. Example: when as a civilian I went to retrieve the EP-3 from China during the "Hianan Incident" I got a couple of coins from folks that were appreciative.

  41. OK, so having toed out the speakers actually made the single biggest difference. I tried playing CDs through my Marantz AVR with Audyssey, but I found myself largely unimpressed. I think Audyssey works fantastically well for movies, not so well for music. Maybe, one day, I will get a new AVR with XT32 to see whether I like it for music. I tried running the CDs through HDMI out from my 751BD, rather than RCA. I could not really hear any significant difference. I expected to, since the Wolfson DACs on the 751BD were part of the attraction - so I really wanted it to sound worse over HDMI. It seems that the way some CDs have been mastered is not a good fit with the sound of the 83s, overall, even if the issue is tamed somewhat through re-orienting the speakers. Thanks, one and all, for your input and advice!

  42. Robert, Welcome to the forum. I say no but some(very few) on this forum may say yes. With AVR "bi-amping", you are using the same component with the same power supply to "enhance" the sound, which in my experience does not add any more detail, power, punch, than running it the conventional way.
