  1. We were teenagers still living at home and had the 8' dish. In our case you could get most of the SATs by aiming the dish parallel to the driveway. Then there was Telstar 3 which had some porn on it but you had to crank the dish all the way across the sky and actually perpendicular to the driveway. One night driving home from the ballpark my mom said to dad "Leon, looks like the boys have been watching porn again" pointing at that big dish in its awkward position in the sky. Too funny.

  2. Wife and i have "opted out" of this current training, paid for under homeland security grant(s). We are volunteers, we can do that. Should have banned travel from the first confirmed case, just like i said a week ago. This WILL get worse, our current Govt is a joke.

  3. It's all relative. To me, George's excess is . . . . well, excessive . . . . the little wooden supports for the cables and the particle accelerator re-purposed to a turntable. But I doubt George gives a fig about my opinion. On the other hand, most people satisfied with a sound-bar or HTIB think my systems are excessive. They look on tapped horn subs the size of a coffee table as evidence of chronic testosterone poisoning. It all comes down to where we land on the audio continuum. George is way out there, but we're closer to him than we are to Bose wave radio owners.

  4. And now here's the rest of the story. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-10-15/second-ebola-infected-nurse-identified-was-symptomatic-995-degree-fever-while-flying "But what is worse, is that as the WaPo reports the nurse had a fever of 99.5 degrees Fahrenheit before boarding a passenger jet on Monday, a day before she reported symptoms of the virus and was tested, according to public health officials." I try to not believe what is in the news as it usually is not accurate. If she had a fever or felt sick at all after caring for someone who had ebola, she should have self imposed a quarintine on herself until she felt better. A healtcare worker should know this.

  6. And you were on the forum?? It's nice that we still rank higher. When are you going to get Jake a lady friend? Are you giving him rawhide to keep him busy? Even though both my labs are neutered, the older one (6 1/2) sports a lot of wood. Should have named him Woody.

  7. We had one many years ago, then they started scrambling everything, we were left with only shopping and religious channels. It was cool how it moved to point to different satellites, and like during a football game it stayed on the commentators during commercials and you could hear them talk about things they would never want people to know. I remember watching a game and during a break one announcer told the other announcer that at halftime he was going up to one of the suites he was invited to because the food was great and there was some really prime beef walking around in that room he wanted to check out.

  8. Rain yesterday now clear, cooler, and sunshine. Lady friend in the shower (sorry no pics) and me having a first cup. Critter is pouting about sharing his time with someone else. Pick up the Volvo at 10:00 and then off to the NC mountains to see the sites. See you guys on the flip side. Cheers Gents

As it stands about half are in eingrish, good enough for free, now on to the "C" band 8'.5" Dish for more free chit. 10. Not needed no. You can run them off just your avr or any nice ss amp. A few watts is all they need. 3 of those would be a great upgrade from 82s. Can you fit one for a center?

  18. Yessir, nothing like live feeds ,wild feeds. Hybrid satellites w/C/Ku even Ka on some of the DTV carriers for locals. When I got started there were 12 transponder C sats still alive. An old Western Union sat. Now that photo, I can see your antenna. The other photo shows the top of your dish. craigslist has dishes all over the place. Some decent dishes for the taking w/some or cheap enough. You could put some C-band system or w/ Ku for practically no money at all. Enjoy! Edit: Drinking a cup of 8O'Clock Hazelnuts...

  19. Chad... your perspective is errant. Ebola as a contagion is far more virulent and has a higher mortality rate. I worked intensive care for decades through Legionnaires and many other infectious crisis. None hold a candle to this level 4 contagion. No healthcare workers were cross infected. The correct perspective is to respect the lethality of Ebola and make certain it does not get any foothold on our side of the pond. Measles in highly contagious but nowhere near as lethal and we have vaccines. We have vaccines to manage the annual flu strains. We have some treatment for Ebola - but not enough - and we have no Ebola vaccines. Get Ebola and you have a 50% chance of dying within 10 days........... at the very best.

  20. Perspective is a great thing when all the details are known, The viruses you mention have been well known and researched for generations and have a much lower mortality rate There are many unknowns and contradictions being stated which cause much of the concern with Ebola

  21. Obama talks of sending National Guard to Liberia http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/ebola-virus-outbreak/obama-may-send-national-guard-liberia-fight-ebola-sources-n227336 And here I thought the national guard was used for National Emergencies, Not sure how Liberia equals National Frankly I feel like any armed service members should have a choice in this particular scenario, I served my 8 years in the service both active and inactive and I certainly would not have agreed to be part of a mission like this, It is Humanitarian and I get that, but it has nothing to do with the military reason for existance. When I joined the military it had nothing to do with wanting to comply with every wish the president may have, it was to protect my country

  27. I don't know about you, but if this works it will be by far the best money we ever spent. Goodbye to co2 emissions, the internal combustion engine, electric bills of significance, world poverty unless by choice, and more things than I can think of at the moment. Hello, solar system at will. Dave It would be nice to think that is what everyone is up to, but that is not the case, weapon development/refining is where the money is at. Lived it from day one, the stuff they are into is well into the 22ed century.

  28. You got it right. It is so basic that government should act to protect the general welfare of its citizens. Instead we get arrogance, denial of responsibility, dishonesty and twisted ideology, all to the detriment of the citizenry.

  29. My Grandfather carved his name on the inside of this plane. He was an electrical engineer at Bell and was hired as part of the crew to help build it. I would love to see inside and find it one day. The entire crew have their names inside.......somewhere?.......He left Bell after the X-2b project. I know he had his hands on a number of the X-1's & 2's......If you look on the X-2 page in wiki, he is in the group crew shot........front row, eighth from the left.... .....I can't load the pic, it's too big. He is the bald one with the white tucked in shirt and black pants... Thanks Boxx!

  35. I think that's where my biggest problem would be, 75'-100' trees on most sides of me, between that and being on the fringe I don't think I have a shot. Well I'm off to go cut some grass, my sisters grass about a mile away and then the rest of mine. So this is extra music time for me, earbuds with ear muffs on top of that, this way I don't need to turn it up to drown pout the tractor noise, works great and relaxing.

  41. I understand making fun of advertising gimmicks that persuade folks into spending money needlessly, but otoh there are people who want improvements when possible to their listening at home pleasure...That said, I have no idea the actual benefits of Dolby Atmos and they may indeed be user specific insofar as it's an "upgrade," or not. Fwiw, going from 2 channel to 5.1 was a tremendous upgrade, whereas going to 7.1 was marginal in the beginning but I have come to appreciate it more when I experiment without the 2 rear channels....I also feel adding Heights was even less of an upgrade but more of a lateral move until I found the right setting in the AVR and now am glad I went that route...YMMV and I for one am waiting to see how Dolby Atmos pans out in Home Theater, but as Bonehead seemed to insinuate, it has been a success in Theaters.

  44. Morning gang: Yet another day of mucky thick smoke filled air to deal with, smoke settles in west during morning/afternoon then blows east at night. The smell is that of wet burnt wood, visual reference 4 to 6 miles, not my kind of flying weather, so today is another day of being a "Hanger Rat". Tarheel must be keepin busy, a good thing. Detel likely recovering from birthday bash.

  47. Last pics, it was still difficult to choose from about the hundred pics made during the build. I integrated the CT125 tweeters [Crites] into the Cobreflex midhorns by removing some material from the middle; they fitted right in after that, I removed the flanges. Well....then after constructing a pivot for the mid-high section and bolting everything together it was time to drag them into place and hook them up to the Decware Zen tube amps. Right from the start these speakers fill the room with authority, can't find a better description. We were used to the balanced sound of the heavilly modded La Scala's but were immediately struck by the richness of the Universals. Let me say that my wife is VERY happy with the endresult, it made her forget all the mess we had in our livingroom during sanding, coating and working on them. Hope you enjoy looking at this thread, I learned a lot from looking at all the threads you guys posted! Thanks, Nico
