  3. Hello and good Sunday afternoon my friends! I am sorry that I was unable to come up with my 'old fashioned' coffee extravaganza this weekend. Darn box out in the garage could NOT be found. Need to paw around the junk pile out there and hopefully find what I am looking for. Meanwhile, I was MOST happy that I was able to fine new 'O' seals for my LESS then year old Ryobi powerwasher (3100 psi) Used it for last spring's deck/winter cleanup and the house washing and a few car rinsings and the seals all blew out in the handle AND hose ! Called about replacements, but they are NOT available from the factory for safety reasons..........hmmmmmmmmmm. Lucky, we have a company down my street in an old mill building that has A to Z for hoses, belts and fittings for every application imaginable! I brought the hose in, the guy said, "Yup, we got those, how many?" I said TEN please. So, for $3.50 I got enough to replace as needed. I installed them with a dose of 100% pure silicone spray... With that introduction out of the way, I am going to go play with that and give the SUV a good de-winter rinse and make sure it is ready for the task of cleaning the hard winter crud off the deck... I will report later .... enjoy your day everyone. ............Gary

  4. Time to get C&C up and running again! Where ya at Mark? Chuck? Gary? billybob? Other 'gang members'? Good weekend around here. Mostly celebrating my beautiful better half's birthday. She got her requested patio chairs along with flowers, some fine dining, cards and bbq tonight. Somehow I enjoy her b-day more than my own. Have a great day and cheers to all............

  5. SCORE! Snatched this 1987 Heresy II pair with stands and risers on feeBay just over an hour from home. Now all I need is some random sub plucked from Youthman's sound emporium, just anything the Brother's not using. Thanks, all, for the welcoming ideas, comments, suggestions, leads, and good vibrations. Bill

  6. Looking for a pair of lovingly used full range floorstanding mains to compliment my current configuration: RC 52-II center stage and RB 61-II rears. Running 105 watts x 5 channels via Yamaha Rx-V476 home theater receiver. The current movie I'm playing in my head involves a pair of either Heresys or Cornwalls in good condition and a sub or subwoofer pair that will fill a rather large listening room with sliders that open to a pool and patio. Music I'm listening to today is PERFECT for those period Klipsch boxes... Rory Gallagher, Johnny Winter, John Lee Hooker, Drive-By Truckers, Diana Krall (she rocks any- and everything), Scott Miller & the Commonwealth, Webb Wilder, etc. I'm in the 727 area code, 34684. Prefer local items but will travel up to ?? for the right deal. Holla! -Bill

  9. Great score. They look fantastic. I'm into DIY, so I'd build a tapped horn sub, or two, to augment the Heresy pair. YMMV Enjoy!

  11. My only gripe about the new line is that currently there are no surrounds that will match the RF-7ii and RC-64ii's. They discontinued the RS-62ii and didn't offer a replacement. The only thing you can buy is the RP's with the dual 5's, which doesn't have the same beef as the dual 6's and visually the finishes don't match. I really wish they would come out with some top tier Reference surrounds that have real wood veneer and titanium compression drivers. Actually I wish they'd come out with a "baby RF-7ii" bookshelf with a 10" woofer and the same 1.75" compression driver.

  12. I have never heard or seen the 280F but knowing the reputation of the RF-7II system for HT and it's beautiful real wood veneers(cherry), big 10" woofers, and big ole 1.75" compression drivers, you can't be disappointed there. Bill

  14. Congrats Bill. You even get some cool looking stands with them too. I know you don't know me but hopefully my reputation over the past 11,127 posts can vouch for my integrity. If you would like for me to pick them up for you early next week, give me a call. We can check them out with the RSW-12. If you would rather pick them up yourself, I totally understand. Just offering to help a new forum brother out.

  15. I brought this home from work on Friday, but haven't even had time to hook it up. It's a MOTU (Mark of the Unicorn) firewire interface, with 8 mic/line inputs as well as another 8 available through an ADAT optical interface. Supposed to have very clean mic preamps. It will do 24/96k. I can hardly wait to try it out. I also have an Alesis ADAT 8 track digital recorder that I want to import so tracks from, so this will work better than going through the ADAT DACs back through some ADCs (2 tracks at a time) to get them into my PC. 17. It was nice talking to you Bill. I look forward to having you over next Saturday. I think you will enjoy the LaScala Trio. This is by far the best online community I have ever been a part of. Glad to have met several of these guys. We share a unique "brotherhood". Bill said they sold yesterday.

  18. After a more than 3 year absence of Klipsch speakers in my house I'm very pleased to say that the drought has ended. Last night I gave the finishing touches to a Heresy project that I've been working on for more than a year. I had a pair of cabinets that I don't recall where I got them from. Gradually as budget allowed I picked up the various bits and pieces and last weekend the final parts arrived. Then came the required crossover updates and mods. As I wasn't able to afford the Atlas squawker drivers I opted for the Selenium drivers mated to the K700 horns. This required the use of Mr. Crites tweeters and the -4500 mod to the crossovers. As they are right now they have K22EF woofers, K700 squawker hours with Selenium D250-X drivers, (borrowed) CT125 tweeters, and E2-4500 dividing networks updated with Solen capacitors. So the obvious question is "how do they sound?". Well... They sound a heck of lot how I remember Heresys sounding. That's a good thing. They could stand a bit more bass but that's nothing a decent subwoofer can't fix. As time passes and "extra" $$ dribble in the plan is to change out the woofers to a pair from Mr. Crites and purchase my own pair of of CT125 tweeters. This is what it all currently looks like: Forgive the dust. I'm a single guy and housekeeping is not my thing.

  19. My brother had several of them back in the early 70's When I saw them all for $45 I had to pull the trigger. They are 2006 reissues. My house is starting to look like the 40 year old virgins house.

  25. Apologies for the long post, I was just going to make a comment and got carried away - must be the morning caffeine... My, how times change us.... I used to pull 'all-nighters' listening to music with friends in high school and college. Then, I moved to Baltimore with my (future) wife and spent the next few years finding my way to a profession and career and aside from live shows and concerts, I rarely listened to any music other than what the radio had to offer (although there were a few fine stations in my area). In fact, I'd left all my gear and records in North Carolina so I didn't even have the opportunity for dedicated listening. Once we settled into a house and work became stable, I began to miss those listening sessions and spent a lot of time with friends who had an audio set up. One weekend, I was visiting a guitar bud in NC, listening to and admiring his vintage tube system when he suggested that since I liked tubed guitar amps so much more than SS, I may be missing something with my wife's NAD set up... and the seed was planted. He added that I was the one that had gotten him into tubed audio gear when he heard my set up in college - a pr of McIntosh MC-30's, an MX-110 and a pr of Khorns that I'd picked up at a 2nd hand shop. I got the gear because it was cheap (I think I paid $350 for the lot back in the early 80's) and there was definitely a 'cool-factor' when my friends saw the tubes and big horns. I just hadn't put 2 and 2 together 'til he mentioned it. In fact, he 'inherited' the MX-110 when I left school and is still using it. Within a year, I had cobbled together a decent set up - a Music Reference RM-9 amp, Audible Illusions 3a pre and a pr of B&W 801 speaks. I was again spending my evenings and on till the wee hours listening to music and really enjoying life. Then one afternoon when I should've been eating lunch, I stopped by another 2nd hand shop and came upon a few piles of records. My intention was merely to set them up properly so they wouldn't warp but once I started flipping through, I noticed an early Beatles' LP still in the shrink. I flipped a couple more and found the same record (I think it was the "Second Album') only it was still sealed! Soon after, I had pulled every Beatles' album on Capitol through the White album still in cellophane in pristine condition and all but the White album had an additional sealed copy. I was more than excited but the finds kept coming - the Who, Hendrix, Dylan. Many records I found I was too young to pick up when they came out but here they were, most in great condition and about 50, including the Beatle's were still sealed. I gathered myself and asked the lady at the counter as casually as I could muster... "How much for your records?". She said... "$1 each" so I started gathering LP's but soon realized, I couldn't go through them all as I was already late getting back to work. Finally and with a bit of desperation, I asked... "How much for the lot?" and after a brief negotiation, I bought everything for $75 (which just happened to be all the cash I had in my pocket). I loaded 250-300 records in my car and rushed back to work but I was worthless as all I could think about was getting home and looking through the stash. Of course, it had dawned on me that I had left all my records and turntable behind in North Carolina when we moved thinking that CD's were my future. Now I had @300 LPs and nothing to play them on but as luck would have it, that Saturday, we went to my mother-in-law's house to visit and do laundry. I noticed a yard sale going on where I found another box a quality records - including some Mobile Fidelity titles. This was an unprecedented week in vinyl for me! I bought 25-30 records and mentioned to the lady that I just go back into vinyl didn't even have a TT. She yelled for her husband and he called me into the house where he showed me a Thorens TD-160 TT. My prayers were answered and I picked that up along with a spare Shure cart and a box full of cleaners and accessories, including a GEO-disc. By that evening, I was spinning vinyl again and loving' it... I was on a roll and already planning to bring back all my records from NC. I was once again staying up late, listening to music (mostly records) almost every night and began upgrading in earnest. For the next 10-15 years, a parade of gear passed through my system - I discovered the revelatory experience of SET and as a result, rediscovered the merits of horns and found my way to this Forum. Along the way, I have met many audiobuds and quite a few have become close friends. Times have changed (as have my sleep habits) and I don't listen to music as much I used to nor do I switch out gear nearly as often so those revelatory moments in audio are few and far between. There have been weeks, sometimes months when I can't be bothered to go down and listen to my main system and I content myself with music streaming in the background and the occasional live show. I think that's just age and there's a natural arc to a hobby like ours but I still love music and its a profound part of my life. Of course, when I run out of excuses and do manage to sit myself down, warm up the system and spin some records, I am easily taken by the music and remind myself just why I should be enjoying this experience every moment I still can - after all, we can't take it with us.

  27. My bracing will be similar to that but also adds front to back baffle bracing. I decided not to take off the front baffles but will add the 3/4" strips all the way around them and liquid nail/screw them in place Just like reattaching the back panel. Will be a tad tougher than my CF-3's that have removable front baffles that screw in place with 6 screws behind the grill peg holes. But no biggie. I have a right angle attachment for my cordless drill for those. My arms areally a little sore from yesterday's scraping of old glue and I have one more back panel to remove but I've scraped off what I could inside the cabinet and ran a razor down the channel from the back side and also used a thin scraper.

  29. Use large black plastic garbage bags to wrap the speakers in first, before anything. The slick surface will help protect the finish of the speakers. Wrap them up and tape outside of bags, masking tape will work. Use something soft in the bed of the truck, I used old outdoor furniture cushions. Wrap them in tarps and they'll be fine. I hauled 5 KSP-300's like this is my truck 175 miles, half of that in a rainstorm. Nothing got wet. Keith

  30. Interestingly enough, at first impression....my ears actually prefer the sound of the HK3490 as the Preamp. I've even tried the different "Curve" settings. Don't get me wrong, it sounds good....but the HK seems to have a more full sound. I'm trying to carve out some dedicated quiet time so I can really compare the two...just too busy of a week this week. Hopefully I can clearly define what differences I am hearing.

  33. for A to B comparison, the important thing is to measure at exact same point. When you measure at Amplifier, it'll be bit more voltage as the speaker wire reseistance is not part of the measurement. When you meassure voltage at Speaker connections, it'll be little less compared to the measurement at amplifier connections due to the voltage drop acrooss the wire. You can measure at both points which will allow you to understand the voltage drop for each speaker wire (channel). Start with 300V AC (one position right to OFF) and then change to 200V AC range if measurement is less than 200v AC for better resolution. That said, since you're not measuring Ampere, it'll not reveal the exacts that you're after.

  39. I am trying to understand your current set up and my memory is also acting up. IIRC, the K55 is probably a 1 inch throated driver. The Altec 805 is probably a 1.4 inch throated horn. Am I correct so far? If so, you must be using an adapter. What is the crossover point for the 805 horn and how steep are you crossing? What is the history on the 288 driver? Any chance it will need a new diaphragm or will it need to re-magnitized? They are older drivers and if they were used in PA or if they were moved around much, they may need some work. Otherwise the 288 can be a very good driver. There may also be issues about relative sensitivity of the two drivers (and their impedances), so the crossover may need to be re-worked.
