  1. Morning all, boys at school, breakfast and protein shake down, dishes washed....................................was sentenced to some hard times last evening, wife wanted to watch the ACM (American country music awards) I suffered through with as little comment as I could humanly stand. 1 thing really struck me though Country (or at least what they call country) seems 1 hell of a lot more like POP than what I recall as country..........................also the show was very poorly mastered you heard more of the audience than the performers, and several times while accepting awards the performers would ask which way to face while speaking. all in all a very poor effort at an awards ceremony IMHO. reminded me more of a huge drunken yuppy party than a country music event..........................."Times they are a changing"

  2. Morning all. It was 62 and clear this morning. Absolutely gorgeous out. It's a far cry from the rain we've been getting pounded with lately. I think we're about 10 inches over where we were last year at this time. Happy Monday to all. Every minute you're at work today is one minute closer to the weekend!

  4. You've pretty much nailed it, Joe. I won't listen to or play the crap that passes for 'country' today, and I've been playing country music for a long, long time now along with rock 'n roll. The music industry seems to have homogenized country into a 'pop' sound to appeal to a wider, younger audience and the result is garbage. When I play country it's always along the lines of Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, etc. My hope is that good artists will someday find a way around the 'industry' and get back to roots. Thanks for the excuse to vent and have an excellent day.

  6. Hey folks ... slow but good day yesterday. Played a bunch of old rock 'n roll on the Hammond and then started pulling out old LP's, many from my folks' collection. Good stuff and a real kick to listen to them again. I love great well kept vinyl. Guess I'm showing my age, but damn it's good stuff. Topped off the day with dinner and watched 'The Imitation Game' via Vudu. Fine movie and recommended. Cheers to all! Try to check back in a bit.

  9. I had the previledge of working as a "sensor systems specialist" on this bird during late 80s and early 90s. Found this picture and thought you guys might enjoy seeing a blast from the past. "Proof that with enough horsepower you could fly a brick" was the old joke at 27 tons.

  12. Belle's are the sexiest looking, but cost as much as KHorns and don't perform as well as LaScalas. As an extension of what Carl said above. You can get in and out of a pair of LS for free. Buy em, try em, sell em. If you like, and have the coin, throw it down on some LS 2's. I also agree that you shouldn't rule out KHorns. People who have used false walls said they worked very well. With a horn sub, you may not miss the bass of a KHorn, but if you want to just turn the sub off, they are the best.

  13. Not crazy about country music, it's really alot like POP now anyway, although Zack Brown has some good songs.

  14. Go see 'em! Today! I have Cornwalls in a (13x15 roughly) bedroom. Heresy's in a bedroom are fine except sitting on the floor the bed absorbs some of the mid/highs. I found myself wanting stands or shelves for the Heresy's. The foot print of the Cornwall didn't make much of a difference to me compared to the Heresy. I'd also consider having glass tops made for the speakers to protect them.

  15. I don't think is a 2" driver like you think, I think it has to do with the voice coil not the exit. My opinion is that I like the spacing between the top hat of the b, vs no spacing on the c. The c seems to blend in more, and plain looking. Now on that note, the new style looks to be a mixture of the c and b giving the space of the b but still not all the extra wood added. Kind of a clean look, I actually like it. For the record, my opinion is pretty much the same as yours. I just like to hear others' reasoning because I like to see how others see things.

These sound perfect with no hint of distortion with a 800 watt amp running them. Call for more info 918-860-3074" Wonder how much of that 800 watt he's using? <edit> I see from the GS section that I'm not the only one who questions this lol

  28. That's a pretty interesting quote, IMHO. It also tells you something about why his loudspeaker designs live on--70 years after their original design (e.g., the Khorn bass bin) basically unchanged and why they still function properly after all those years without much more than replacing capacitors in the passive crossovers every twenty years or so. Chris I wish audio retailers still had listening/comparison rooms. I believe given the opportunity a good percentage of the general public could discern "accuracy of reproduction". While this doesn't answer the question of higher pricing I think this story is worth sharing. PWK used to set up a pair of Khorns and set up a pair of Heresies in front of them. He would first play the Heresies for the listener, of course they thought the sound was coming from the Khorn. Needless to say, the listener thought the Heresies were awesome compared to the "run of the mill" speaker. Only then did PWK play the Khorns for them. It was almost always a sure sale for Heresies, leaving the customer longing for the higher end Khorn, which ultimately led to future sales. This sales method probably resulted in lower sales initially, but based on stories of upgrades by our own forum members I think that sales presentation worked out just fine for PWK.

  29. OK, the money shot. This pre can be purchased as an un assembled kit or pre-assembled from TS. I purchased the unassembled kit. If anyone here thinks for one moment that I assembled this myself, you're gravely mistaken. This is Maynards craftsmanship. He did a stunning job and I'm extremely thankful I sent it to him. During assembly, he found that one tube had a dead leg and the two others were marginal. I never would have caught that. I contacted TS and was told that Maynard measured some anomaly and that the tubes were fine. I took the "tube fanatics" word for it and ordered 3 more tubes of the same number and manufacturer as what came with the kit. These tested perfectly and then the entire unit now scoped perfectly. I'm really glad I know my limitations and had Maynard build this.

  31. I have not been very active on the Forum over the past few yrs. I read some of the postings here (after migrating to the new Forum system and the new look). Looks like a few folks got together in Hope in late March, but sounded like less than dozen. When I last knew a few things about the company, ?Fred Klipsch was running things, but basically was not interested in us (c. 2007), likely as he had bigger fish to fry. I have no idea what is going on with the company now. Let's face it, the "kids" (those of the IPod generation) have Zero interest in speakers that weigh more than they do. Too bad for them. But in a bad economy, they also don't have the money for Heritage speakers. Even the worst marketing folks know that free and easy P R by keeping product users happy is very desirable - but only if the users are touting the currently sold and profitable products. It would have been nice to have more warm fuzzies from Klipsch than just the website at this time. Oh well….. From what I gather, there is no other planned get together this spring / summer. FWIW, I have moved again, having started a new job at The National Cancer Institute, part of the NIH in the DC area. Awesome job, but I do miss New Orleans. Any members from the DC area, please say hello !! In the meantime, let’s for some type of GTG in 2015, even if informal and not in conjunction with Klipsch as a company. ….NOLA….. (

  35. The Heresy III's look sexy in those pics. Which is cherry and which is walnut? I figure the reddish is cherry and the yellowish is walnut. Chad, maybe there is a way to caption the pictures for each finish. I'm sure you have already thought of that, but I for one think it would keep folks from possibly ordering the wrong thing.

  38. "You've been mis-informed..." No, the margins have increased over the years when I was a dealer ('78~'88). Klipsch had less margin in the 70's, but it increased a bit in the 80's. Back then the basic discount was only 35 points off of list, there was a prompt payment discount, and you had to order at least $3500 (at cost level) to qualify for free freight, and if you couldn't pay the bill promptly you lost the freight as well. Now it looks like if you pay promptly the discount can be right at 50 points, and freight is paid at only $2000. I see from the two sheets that they increased the basic disount in '97, but decreased the prompt payment discount, and you had to pay faster too. If you expect brick-and-mortar dealers to have product for you to listen to they need about 30 points to keep the doors open.

  39. The Belle Klipsch makes a great centre speaker. It was built for that purpose, and was designed to please PWK's first wife, Belle, and was even named after her. The Belle also makes a good TV stand. It's only 19 inches deep, and can be placed close to the wall. Having your large TV on the speaker instead of mounted on the wall means it's about a foot closer to you, making it appear a bit bigger, which is usually a good thing. It can be hard to find a single Belle. I had to buy a pair to get one, but now I have a spare, and it can be used as a rear centre in a 6.1 system.

  40. Chuffing has a chuffing sound. Is the port loose? Sometimes the actual port tube or tube flare comes loose. Don't worry about getting shocked. Just use the one hand rule. Put your other one behind your back. The only shock would be local to that hand, and there would be no way it could travel through your heart. Most modern electronics have bleed down resistors on high voltage cap circuits. In about a minute after removing power a modern electronic device should be safe to handle. It is best to be safe with the 1 hand rule, however.

  42. As mentioned, Rodney has a router there with code on the bottom for all to use. Not blazing, but adequate for email and the forum. If we actually do some sort of feed if someone has a mobile hotspot with a good signal it might be a better idea. I have Sprint hotspot but the signal inside the building was not usable at all with the doors closed but would at least ring with the doors open. I had to go all the way to the fence to maintain a conversation. Don't if I would have anything useful in the hotspot category. Since Verizon worked for Andy, perhaps a better choice. There was a tall cell tower no more than 3 or 4 miles towards Hope. Dave

  46. The sub was extra in that deal. I did try it in place of my 660 and wasn't overly enthused by the difference, and it's too big to replace the 440. Figure I'd let someone else get in on a deal on here. Pricetags I have on CL are considerably higher - so it's definitely a perk for forum members.

  47. Black normally is not my 1st choice in speakers. I am here to tell you, that black and copper sure looks great together. The contrasting grain on the veneer really looks nice. The veneer on the front around the cones adds a nice touch of elegance while still having that intimidating look. Enjoy those new beasts, Bill
