  3. Today I attended T.H.E. Show Newport. Overall, the Show was fantastic, although horribly over crowded. A few of the multi $$$$$$$$$ rooms were unbelievable, others horrific, overall a great time. My particular interest in the show this year was all horn loaded speaker systems, full range speakers, and open baffles. The horn systems this year were good not great, (probably setup) there were very few full ranger speakers, but a couple very good open baffles. As always, Legacy open baffles were excellent, Magnepan also good but a lot of the same. A nice surprise - Emerald Physics showed up with the KC-II, an open baffle passive hybrid - very similar to my Yield. This is a great looking nice sounding speaker. Nice work EP.. I only spent about 4 hours room hopping, but I got a chance to stop by Justin Webers room. Amps and Sound was paired with Chapman Audio, and VPI - what a great sounding room. The Amps and Sound display consisted of a pair of Casa Blanca mono blocks.....drool... Also on display was one of Justin's head phone amps, and although I am not a headphone guy, I was delighted by the sound. (What headphones were those?) I hope Justin or other members will post some pic's, and links to reviews. I am told www.ampsandsound.com is getting excellent press. Good job Justin... Dave

  6. Keeping on subject. I enjoyed my coffee while wiring up trailer lights on my Jeep Cherokee. I know their not audio cables, but they are wires. Never mind the mess, everything will get tidied up. I need a good vacuuming, as I have been hauling a lot of wood and what not. Now that I have this little trailer, hopefully that won't be much of an issue. And my humble 2 channel camping rig.

  13. You can't rebuild the valves from the back side. Gotta go at them from the front. Oh I thought he was changing the whole contraption, your right, valves are easy...........once you get the right ones. I would bring the old ones with me, they all start to look the same when your looking even if you do know the brand.

  15. Back to the bathroom. I finally have the pipes inside the wall where they belong. Drain pipe is in. I can't put concrete in till my drain comes in so I may start working on the walls while I'm waiting. I'd like to get my hands on the knucklehead that put this in. The copper lines were kinked below the slab and there wasn't a brace anywhere to be found. The copper pipe has a cover to keep the concrete off the pipe when you pour the slab. They had poured concrete in-between the pipe and cover! Pretty much negates having it there to begin with. The section I put in has been wrapped in tape, then covered in plastic so I should be good.

  24. So as sad as it makes me i have been talking with the wife about finances, and her military GI bill does not cover her summer classes she is taking. so i will be paying 100% of the bills over the next 3-4 months. while i have enough to cover it i would be flat broke so i am letting go my recently acquired home theater. it will keep me stress free if i just get rid of it. i really can live with a less capable home theater in my living room (just don't like to). so here it is. the 5 speaker setup will include: 1 pair of merlot P-37F towers next up would be the merlot P-27C center and finally the merlot P-27S surrounds and a pic of them together This setup is the REAL DEAL people. i was very skeptical before i ever heard them because of what i was told by others. however after taking a leap of faith, these are THE ONLY speakers that when i come up from my cinema equipment, i am equally as excited to listen to these. take looks out of the equation and there are by far the best sounding klipsch i have had in my living room. the standout speaker for me is the center channel. I'm sure its well known that i am not fond of the rc-64 because after hearing a superior center i just never could get over its asking price for how I FELT it sounded compared to its matching towers. with that being said, the palladium is far superior in my opinion. the clarity on it is just unreal compared to any other klipsch center i have heard. this setup is fantastic in every aspect in my eyes. you get fantastic sound and pieces of art. if anyone has any questions please feel free to ask. the towers retail for 8,000$ the center retails for 3,500$ the surrounds go for 4,000$ grand total for the package is 15,500$ i am asking 6,250$ for the setup. i have all the packaging material for these speakers as i bought them all brand new. there is a very slight bit of "damage" to one tower and one surround. the tower has about a 1/8" by 1/8" spot that is just discolored a tad from the merlot stain. and one surround has what looks like a small finger nail imprint in the bottom wood cap. i can get pics for any serious parties. i have no problem shipping these but all expenses are on buyer and INSURANCE IS A MUST! i would be heartbroken if they got destroyed. location is kansas city area and i am willing to drive a few hours if asking price is met. EDIT: 7,000$ GETS YOUR FREE SHIPPING TO ANYWHERE IN THE 48! LOCAL WOULD BE MINUS SHIPPING QUOTE AND I WILL ALSO THROW IN MY ONKYO 805. ITS A BEAST

  26. He's gotta be a serious collector if an Evil Knievel bike ended up in Bluffton. I always preferred dirt bikes. Mom was a nurse in the operating room so I heard horror stories on any subject she wanted to traumatize me with. (in hindsight I wonder if she just played me like a fiddle) Irrespective of that, I always figured if I was going to be in a wreck, I'd rather it be my fault hitting a tree I didn't see rather than getting hit by a car that didn't see me. Spent some time on a Yamaha RD-350 and felt naked most of the time. In the dirt world, had a Yamaha YZ-465 and just a number of years ago, a 1983 Maico 490 that was bought as parts in four boxes. Prior owner crashed it, broke a shift fork and took literally, every single nut & bolt apart to find it. Maybe he was going to restore it....I don't know. But if it came apart, he did it. I had the fun (as in fun, not sarcastic) of putting it all back. Indeed, when the boxes arrived via Greyhound, I couldn't hold myself back so started a dry run with the engine. About 30 minutes later, I found the problem and had the entire engine put back together in a trial fit. Took back apart and commenced to fix properly. Both of those bikes were nothing but serious fun!!

  27. I used to ride a Honda 550. They are geared a bit low, but are super smooth. I geared mine to the moon for highway riding, added a handlebar mounted fairing and spent a summer riding from Washington, DC to the Florida Keys. MG, how in the world did you get one in the crate? And HOW is it that you have one, and don't know where it is?

  28. The KV-4 arrived on Thursday in perfect shape. It's about as close to brand new as it could possibly be...it actually smells brand new yet. So, I know it wasn't pushed hard or used much previously...which I know it wasn't (actually a really cool story behind this one). Impressions... First off, its huge compared to the RC-62 I had several years ago. It images perfectly with the CF-3s...ran it through Transformers AofE, 9, and Apollo 13 and the front stage is seamless. Dialogue is crisp and clear. With the entire front stage I'd say the sound feels effortless...that is, even cranking the volume it doesnt sound like the speaker is anywhere near its limits. Definitely adds something over using a phantom center setup. I know someone mentioned that it had a hollow type sound to it. That hasn't been my experience at all with it, if anything it sounds tight and clear. Very happy with how this turned out!

  29. Dave and everyone thanks a ton.i wanted to invite everyone close out but didn't want the moderators to get angry. That said, we are in room 1311. Come in and kick me in the shins and say hello. Newrecordday.com interviewed me and several journals... Fingers crossed it goes well. Chapman T5 were paired with out mono blocks... We got our hands on a VPI prime and Ralph at Sonic Studio (Amarra ) showed off what the IRC func can do to tame a terrible room and showed off Amarra for Tidal. I was never a streaming guy until the Demo... tidal is too cool. The headphones were Mr Speakers Ethers. Each day has presented new challenges but also crazy new opertunies. None have come to fruition just yet but I'll share soon. Long story short it's been an unforgettable experiences.... Big thanks to Dave ( who custom made a base for the VPI) andScott Hicks.

  31. Thank you! I have to agree. I'm usually a walnut fan but these have the nicest oiled (curly) oak veneer that I have seen. They rode the Klipsch express up here from Florida and I purchased them from our own Willland who posted earlier. Thanks Bill! These sat for quite a while after I got them due to battle with cancer that I went through but I won that battle and I was finally able to enjoy these wonderful speakers. They've got new crossovers and Ti tweeter diaphragms. I added bronze glass tops and picked up an extra set of grill frames so I could try a nice, vintage looking linen fabric. My flash caused this pic to make them look too white but it is a classic, open weave natural linen fabric that looks very nice in a living room. I still have the risers too but took them off when I was looking at different types of stands to get the tweeters up to ear level. The blocks are rock solid and have worked very well. I have a bit more in these that I meant to invest but I don't regret it. The only reason I am even considering parting with them is that I'd like to build a pair of Cornscalas one day and I don't have the room for both. I could be quite happy with these as my last speaker though. I'll have to sleep on this one if you decide that you may be interested in checking them out. Mark

  32. Without an active electronic XO, bi-amping will send the same amount of power to the Hi's and Lo's. The excess wattage sent to the Hi's will be wasted as heat in the passive XO. A lot of forum members feel that passive bi-amping has no benefit. I have tired passive bi-amping and gave up on it. I tried it with 3 different amps and with an avr.

  34. A couple weeks ago had a water overflow in the motorhome that saturated the carpet and pad, thought we got most of it out using a 5 hp shop vac, cam back home 1 hot day and whew what a smell turns out the water brought out every old smell / stain in the carpet from the original owners, Tear out the carpet and find lots of embedded dirt etc from the last 25 or so years decided after seeing the 1 section it would be best to remove the other section of carpet as well, this left a low area in the living room (ISH) and the Bed Room area, turned out 11/32 finished plywood was the perfect height for a flat floor from front to back after 3 or 4 trips looking at flooring we decided on Laminate so we now have a chestnut handscraped Laminate floor from front to back with a unique baseboard trim The Motorhome has a LOT of odd angles and protrusions with rounded over corners making normal styles of baseboard an adventure so I thought why not try Manila Rope I think it came out pretty Nice and it is certainly MUCH EASIER to clean

  35. I agree 100% with Opus's advice. Forte II INMHO has a better midrange with the tractrix horn. I have owned mine for close to 25 years. Allows for a wider soundstage, and less off axis listening. Unless you have a subwoofer in the equation, you will probably be disappointed in the lack of bass with any Heresy version. I am not a bass head by any means. Ray Delguado, excuse spelling of Rays last name if I butcherd; was the head engineer on the extended Heritage line that the Quartet, Forte, and Chorus line fall into. Ray is one very respected engineer. You owe yourself a listen to the forte II and chorus II versions before pulling the trigger on the Heresy. If nothing else it will only validate your decision to purchase the Heresy. Best regards, John

  42. Man, just when Carl built up my courage last evening, I'm sitting here enjoying my 2nd cup of Highlander Grogg, reading the days posts, and you got my tail between my legs again. Rainy here so I will shower and encourage wifey to shower so if things don't go well, and least we took our last showers. Probably should fill every bucket we own with water too...just in case. Maybe I should wait until Monday so in case I have to call in a real plumber, it's not at double time weekend rates. Creative procrastination!

  43. Ahhh...yes......plumbing ..... The best approach is to confidently state 'I don't mess with it' as though you just have better things to do. The truth is that I may not have enough homeowners coverage to take care of the !!%## - ups of which I am capable in this area. Usually get a buddy to 'help' while I supervise. Pretty day and I'm heading outside for most of it. Need to hit Best Buy first and pick up a new 'puter first. Will keep you posted. Cheers guys.

  44. Dam all out of coffee filters, who the heck is in charge of the inventory around here. Ah plumbing, besides Mondays one of my favorite things in life. I'll tell you this, the first time I installed a new toilet flange. I didn't pay attention to the orientation of the bolt holes, needless to say I had to chisel it out and install a new one. Fun, fun stuff. As for today, well breakfast is still in order ( I had to vent about the coffee filters). Then a baseball game at 10, maybe some yard work or trailer rewiring. At 2 brakes on the aunts care, a quick pad and rotor job on a Caviler. Then depending if the weather holds up, maybe some camping. Well got to run, the belly is growing.

  45. Cloudy here this morning but should clear up by noon. Back from breakfast. Ate at the bar with the regulars. Two eggs over medium, 3 slices of bacon, potatoes. Half way through the cook/owner puts a plate in front of me with two more strips of bacon. He said my slices were a little puny Jake fed and walked. LF has her niece (29) and niece's friend (28) staying with her for the weekend. Says they are lookers but I haven't seen then Hope everyone has a fun weekend and as always.... Cheers Ladies and Gents
