  1. So I bought a pair of Chorus I's 6 months ago. I started listening to music with them and began hearing things previously hidden in some of my favorite songs. Yes, I was gloating and beaming about how great these speakers really are. Last week my wife was re-arranging the furniture in my man cave so as a courtesy I put on her favorite Music Choice channel, The 70's. I sat in my lounger and listened to Rocky Mountain High by John Denver and started to appreciate the background instrumentation that I never knew existed. I began to feel a little self conscious about liking a song again that came out when I was 7 years old. But it did sound good, so I justified my position based on sound quality. This type of closet-appreciation went on for 6-7 more songs, me finding new subtleties in each one. Then came Shadow Dancing by Andy Gibb, a song that no self respecting alpha male ever liked or could even stand listening to. You guessed it, I'm hearing instruments and clarity that made me want to listen to this song longer and longer. After I'd listened to the whole thing, I felt dirty, shameful, and a loss of self esteem. Like I came out of the closet musically. As of today I am still ashamed of myself for what I did and how I felt. But I knew the Klipsch community would have mercy on my soul, or pitty me. Either way I'm cool with it. But if you ever see me wearing Leif Garret or Andy Gibb schwag, please please slap me. Joe Dirt - Out. B)

  4. Mornin' guys. Will be on the road this weekend starting this evening but will try to check in when/if I can. Gary, thanks for the great pictures and narrative. Keep 'em coming. We had the privilege of listening to an organist rehearsing when we were in Germany and it was a real kick. You get to do that regularly! Cool stuff. Everybody have be well and have a fun, safe 4th. Cheers, of course..... Chuck

  7. Inappropriate personal attack on a public forum. I suggest the entire post be deleted immediately or at least the public attack part, and certainly the title of the thread which is 100% personal attack by name and has nothing to do with a request for a sub-forum. The request for a tube section may have some merit and is fair game for public debate, but attacking a Klipsch employee is out of line.

  11. Paul W. Klipsch called these details the "inner voices" of the music. He considered revealing them to be one of the goals of speaker design.

  13. Thanks guys... Chuck, I will be editing that concert recording soon as things settle down a bit...... I have more photos I just took around outside, including that HUGE bell and tower weather vane... Off to dinner to meet up with the many people that have NEVER heard this organ or been in this church. ;0)) Enjoy your evening everyone... .........Gary

  15. .....but, right now I am on 'standby' for this organ (Chuck as I remembered liked the casework ), the convention goers have been visiting organs under our care throughout this region and into Connecticut today, and all the past 5 months of restorative work on this late 1800's organ we have been doing, it has come down to THIS night... The church has been fully restored on the interior, including a brand new bell/clock tower (which was ripped off the church and in a heap on the front lawn by an F3 tornado) has been replicated to original specification. Even the cell phone co. has their new antennas concealed with in it !! ....anyway, here, the front of the church is in 'concert' mode and the organist is rehearsing right now for the after dinner concert for 300 persons.. A photo of the setting.... (all the antique chandeliers have been cleaned and relamped with new LED bulbs, the front set are illuminated as shown either side of the choir area)

  16. Afternoon friends...... Ok, not to detract from the auto chats, I am into that as well, but, thought I would do a little updating of the organ convention, now into day 4....I am sure some of you have heard of Holst Planets? Well, last night this organ (same that was used for that movie night which you saw), a very top organist his wife and an assistant were at the console (yes, took THREE persons!) to play the full orchestral score arranged/transcribed by the featured artist ;0) The power of this instrument is immense and I recorded it at (24/96) resolution with my quality M/S mic 15' up... Sat in the first pew and it was incredible! I could not wait to get home at all hours to run it through the Dynaco/Khorn system! First off, I goofed at NOT bringing the new DB meter, a REAL one and not an iPad app., to see what the level was where I was sitting to replicate back home. Let me say, since the trip home from the experience is only about 5 minutes away, I was able to approximate.. Well, I had to really juice the system to equal a similar level!! The sound is not quite as full in some ways (not all about volume) as being there, but probably ONE of the best recordings I have heard of the instrument.. The Velodyne brought it home where the Khorn's begin to attenuate at their 32hz. Here is a photo I wanted to send from last night to you all just before the show....

  17. Interesting side note here: Glen Campbell played guitar on the Beach Boys, "Pet Sound" album. He also toured with them. Following Brian Wilson's breakdown he toured with the Beach Boys from December of 1964 to March of 1965. He was offered a permanent position with the band but declined.

  20. caps can easily be damaged so I suggest that you practice soldering on some old dead boards til you are confident in your ability. Take photos of the boards so you know where parts go. cut the caps off at the body of the cap will make it much easier to remove the legs. You will also need a solder sucker to clean up the solder from the holes. some flux will help you to solder in new cps but does require you clean up after. bob uses good parts. fine tuning is fine if you know what sound you like/want. Only you know what you like and different caps sound different in different locations so setting up to be able to quickly and easily swap out a single part in a specific spot is worth while or you will destroy your boards they are not designed for a lot of swaps. You should have a good iron with variable temp control like a Weller or Hakko minimum quality. A soldapullit is what you need to remove solder, use a quality rosin solder do not use silver solders. good luck.

  25. Come on Maynard, this has nothing to do with agreeing on anything. This has to do with common courtesy. Chad has feelings and Chad works here. What do you have to gain by a PUBLIC personal attack? Is it just to embarrass him so you can get what you want? Why not just edit the wording on your post to get rid of any personal references to Chad? Then you can state your case without all the emotional baggage. If you insist on calling out Klipsch employees by name, then you are simply satisfying your ego by bullying and then you would be right, I can't agree with you on that. I love reading your stuff on tubes, I love your passion for them, and I love the way you share your knowledge with the Klipsch community. I just don't understand why you stubbornly cling to posting in a way that is hurtful to someone you want to help you get something. I don't want you to explain it, I would just like to see some common sense editing so we can move forward as a posting community.

  29. I love cruises. I prefer long ones with lots of sea days. To me, being underway is the vacation--i love that more than the port calls. Nothing more relaxing than being underway; besides the casino is open then. Took a 15 day trip from Los Angeles to Hawaii to Ensendada to Los Angeles. Day One hit a nice storm…20+ seas and 70 knot winds. Love being on deck at night--pitch black out there…i imagine the ship taking on water or falling overboard--i try to scare myself for fun.

  30. God Bless Canada and her citizens. The best neighbor a country could have. I remember growing up in the Detroit MI suburbs, went to Canada frequently. I'll never forget when Canada helped free some of the Iranian hostages a huge sign(banner) was put up on one of the taller buildings in Detroit that could clearly be seen across the river in Windsor Ontario that simply stated "THANK YOU CANADA"

Roger It makes me nervous they made me a moderator, you being one would scare the crap out of me. Eldon, Seems as I need to clarify.... What I have been doing is not whining, but Bitchin with justification! Much more MANLEY than whining! If you need further clarification on the matter, I can recommend a moderator that is an expert, as he based his campaign on whining... Roger

  35. It happens, all apart of the live music experience, like paying for tickets. Just need to use your brain to focus and if you can see that they are drunk.. never say anything to them... never. Perhaps to the usher if you can find one. Just focus on the music and hope she takes her top off. Sent from my keyboard using telekinesis.

  39. Oscarear, Give me an Fn break! you want to talk pedigrees, let's talk Klipsch pedigree's at least!!!!! I have been staying away from this thread, at the suggestion of others, trying to let it die it's own Death.... POST COUNTS??? PWK himself would cry BS on that one! I realize that your hands are tied Chad, but we just recently FIRED a member who racked up a TON of posts in a very short time with a TON of likes that is a glaring example of why post count and reputation absolutely should not be the measure of membership. Chad has already said that he can't do length of membership, but I feel this is EXACTLY how it should be determined. How about the FACT that I was a member of the BS section for several years before other members that now have a couple of years that are still members, but I can't be because of post count??? I own more Klipsch speakers than 90% of the members here, have owned more Klipsch speakers than 95% of the members here, have more Klipsch knowledge than 95% of the members here, Have heard more of the big Klipsch speakers than 99% of the members here, have been to Klipsch gatherings including ones that are by invitation only, I have been to Hope 4 times and am friends with Roy, but I don't post on most postings if I feel the correct answer has already been given, while others often repost what someone else has already posted or even worse yet, "their feelings" on the subject to rack up post count. I have been an active member on BS for years and still should be PERIOD!! Roger

  42. To each their own... I will tell you this, When I met my wife, a hardcore country fan, she couldn't stand the Grateful Dead. Over the years, by no persuasion of my own, she finally got it. Some feel it, and some never will, and that's o.k. I have 1000+ live shows in my media library, and I keep adding to it. GD was never a studio band. They are the quintessential jam band, and their shows are where the magic was/is. I am in envy Gary. I tried to get tix for both the Chi-town and Santa Clara shows, but just couldn't swing it for one reason or another. I believe you are in for a real treat. I spoke with a friend earlier this week that saw the Santa Clara shows, and their sets included material that hasn't been played live since the late 60's/early 70's (Cream Puff War anyone?). Enjoy!

  43. really? you guys would spend 1500 on a speaker with a k701 horn and a higher crossover than a CW2? you can buy a CW2 upgrade to all Ti diaphragms, have a better mid horn and a lower xover point for a fraction of the cash. I would not buy any new speaker with a K701 horn if I did it would have to be a heck of a deal and I would lose the k701 right off the top. I think a CW2 is a way better deal and a Chorus 2 even better or a set of CF4 or even a set of KLF30. Just me but veneer is too cheap to fuss over buy what you like stick it on and be happy.
