  2. Morning all just checking in. We sent our eldest daughter and the grandkids to ocean for the week, so The Boss has been staying with her mom. She needs some time off. Same ol' stuff going on..... still not super busy at work.... it really needs to break free.... Well we finally pissed off a neighbor this past Saturday night. Don't know who it was. I know it wasn't the young couple from next door cuz they were over our house. We were pumping out the music on the JBL's and they were hitting hard. Had some old 90's rap with some crazy bass (Snoop Dogg, Fat Joe and Ice Cube). Once the young couple came over we turned the music down so we could talk and play the game they brought over. Five minutes after they got here there was a knock at the front door. It was a Maryland State Trooper. He said there was a noise complaint and asked if we were playing music. I said yea it was us. He said when he first pulled up he could hear it but couldn't tell what house it was coming out of. He was a few driveways down. He was still unsure that it was us cuz he said he was going to knock on a few more doors... I said " no my man it was us. I think he was confused cuz I wasn't some kid but some 50+ year old dude lol lol. I think the reason we got a complaint was we had the windows open and that sound travels. We've pumped the music like that before but we always have the windows closed. Check in later... a good day to all.. MKP :-)

  5. I think it's just slow, there was news story yesterday saying Harley Davidson was offering rebates on bikes because they are having a hard time clearing out the 2016 models from showrooms to make room for the 2017 models. It is the first time in the history of HD they have offered a rebate, it's that slow. http://www.newsmax.com/Finance/StreetTalk/Harley-Davidson-motorcycle-backlog-rebate/2017/04/17/id/784788/

  6. In the past many times I felt like sending our kids and grandkids to the ocean, not the beach but out in the ocean ! Well Congratulations, at least you didn't answer the door with a "pissin off the neighbors since 1946" T shirt, that would not have helped. It might have been a complaint about the type of music and less about the volume, just kidding, open windows will get you every time.

  7. Hmmm, wonder what it is. Could it be the economy doing well? People buying new? I know the economy is doing well in most areas, it's booming here. A few areas around San Antonio and Austin are the fastest growing areas of the country. My wife keeps pointing this out in an attempt to get me to move to Texas

  8. I keep waiting on that knock at the door myself. I have to say my neighbors have been very good. You must have really been crankin to get a state trooper.

  15. From ad: Excellent condition KLF-30 tower speakers. Some cosmetic damage to the speaker cover that could be easily fixed. Damange is 100% superficial and could likely be completely fixed with a needle and black thread. Speakers functionally is mint. Driven by a Bottlehead SEX amplifier that is also for sale w/ enhanced iron http://bottlehead.com/headphone-amplifier-kits/ https://syracuse.craigslist.org/ele/6091025749.html No affiliation. Shame to do that to mahogany KLF-30s. Definitely not mint, but priced like they are. Some idiot put a sticker on the mahogany finish too! Little afraid of the bottlehead SEX amplifier too.

  16. Afternoon gang Nap was good, Carnitas on day two of slow cook. Shopping the Bay, Chinese are getting testy at their pricing lately. We may be affecting their economy in some way. Sun is out now for the first time in a week. Nap sounds good.

  19. Generally loudspeaker engineers select a balance between size, sensitivity and low bass (pick 2). The Cornwall III is larger with a higher -3 dB point, but at 102 dB/w/m is 3 dB more sensitive. Three dB is 2x the power. Pick your preference. A smaller cabinet nets lower sensitivity at the same f3 or the same sensitivity with a higher F3.

  21. Looking to purchase a single Cornwall to use as a center speaker. I'm in the Greenville, SC area, but would definitely be willing to drive a few hours to pick up. I'm about 2 hours to Charlotte and Atlanta and roughly 3 hours to Charleston and Knoxville. Black would be preferred, but not a deal breaker. Thanks.

  22. Were we live state troopers come out most of the time. I don't live in a "residential" type neighbor hood.. There's a busy main road that were on and the houses are not right on top of each other. Oh yea we were pushing those JBL's..... I really think it was because of the open windows. There were quite a few "F" Bombs for sure and that might have something to do with it..... but yea the open window thing that's what did it..... Yea for real Mark..... the bass was nuts..... All I can think about is how the living room was acting like a compression chamber pumping the bass outside lol lol..... and I didn't have any subs playing.... MKP :-)

  24. Sold to the Capt! Sorry I couldn't give a proper audition as my receiver was acting up but should be smooth sailing for years to come. Hope you enjoy as much as i did! Will be looking for a new sub in the Seattle area in a few months. Hopefully I can get a great deal as well.

  25. Gotta admit, I really am starting to grow fond of these little gain nobs. If I turn them to 100% I can hear a very tiny bit or air coming from the horns at about 2'. But anything below 50% and nothing, with head inserted in the horn. Still a bit weak in the knees when I get close to the horns though. Even though I only had the incident once, they have shown me that they can bite.

  26. I am biased and don't take what I say as gospel. Audio is highly subjective and to it's benefit. One solution does not fit all and application is highly dependent on personal taste, room, gear and etc. Anyone telling you there is only one way to go concerning speakers is also highly biased. Now, for the question at hand, the Cornwalls are a great choice and few can deny their place in the klipsch line-up. They will make a terrific set to build a system around. We argue all the time on what is the best or most desirable systems. What else is a forum for but, people of varying opinions and champions of one over another system.

  29. Exactly, you like your speakers, others like theirs, two or three way. 70% of it is the execution of the crossover. If you can force that crossover down or up so it is out of the midrange area, the better off you are. Choosing the drivers then does become more difficult. I myself like both two ways and 3 ways. My best speakers I built are three ways but I will say that they can destroy the two ways I built at frequency extremes and power but my two way speakers can disappear and also sound very good. Just not as present but oddly, present doesn't equal disappear. If you like two way or three way speakers, buy them or build them, and enjoy them. You only need to satisfy yourself. The key is identify what you like in sound and go after it. That's why I build my own but dabble in a lot of Klipsch. Klipsch speakers make a great platform to tweak. By the nature of it, in the Reference series, the RF7 II should sound better than the RP280. The horn on the 280 is better and the RF7's (much better than RF82) horn may be distracting so it might be harder to pin down than you think.... The RF7's will present a bigger sound which is likely what is being looked for here

  31. +1 to what Garyrc said. Make sure your Yamaha is setup properly before returning it. Specifically, front speakers set to LARGE and try straight or pure-direct mode since you don't have a sub. Also check your Blueray player - if you are connected via HDMI or COAX, make sure it's sending 2-channel audio, not multi-channel to speakers that don't exist. One simple test would be to 1) make sure the AVR has the front speakers set to large and then 2) play some 2-channel music via bluetooth or Airplay and see how it sounds.

  32. That's exactly how it works. Yesterday I was fine while working, sit to eat lunch for a little while or take a break for 10 minutes and it feels rough trying to get going again. By the end of the day I felt drained of any energy, but in a strange way it felt good. Like I remember after working out, which I don't do any more but need to start again apparently.

  36. If the RP280f's are brand new, they will take some break in before the top end settles down and the bottom end fills out some. Personally, I myself don't think the mid-lower end Yamaha receivers are a good match for Klipsch. Klipsch need less forward, treble tilting electronics. You have to be very very careful of upstream electronics, particularly amplification with Klipsch speakers. Room and speaker placement also plays a big factor. You can not have a lot of hard surfaces when working with more forward, crisp speakers. That said, if what I am saying about the sound is what you are thinking, make sure you have appropriate sound deadening and you may want to manually work with the EQ vs. letting the auto-magic configuration run. My 2 cents and others will surely disagree.

  38. . Class A has really nothing to do with an amps topology single ended or push pull other then that a single ended amplifier has to be Class A (single tube always conducting). Push Pull can be class A, Class A/B, Class B and so on. The push pull amp you are describing is Class A/B it operates in class A for some small percentage of its max power rating in both Triode or Pentode than switches in and out of class B as the situation demands more power. By the way I bet you a dime to a dollar your amp is not Triode/Pentode and is Triode/Ultra Linear. Recently I've seen many folks and even some manufacturers referring to amplifiers as Triode/Pentode. It would be seriously unusual and complicated to "properly" implement a Triode/Pentode combination because the required feedback tuning would be very different between two modes of operation. Triode and Ultra Linear operation is very similar. I know this stuff can be confusing. .

  41. Let the record show that the defendant, a certain Travis McGee, did doth personifically declaim and place upon the record that he is firmly of the opinion that a largish sub is required to bring the Jubs to their penultimator height of achievement. The State of Mind will upon rebuttal show without a doubt, and without using a single word of Latin, that a Jub is decidedly Jubilacious without the use of a sub. Indeed the State of Mind will move that the court issue a Restraining Order, barring a sub from being within 300 yards of a Jub.

  42. Hmmmm, now there is an idea, now sure how that would work, or how it would look, but smaller is the first thing that comes to mind. I will have to look into that, thanks for the suggestion Cutting off the flanges may cause a couple of problems. I would be careful about that suggestion. I am curious what Roy's perspective on that one would be.
