I had no idea about this until I went looking at videos on getting internet to outbuildings and thought I would try it. Amazon had free returns on both so if it did not work it "should" be no problem returning. It says it can go up to 1000' of wire, but I would guess the further you go the signal would get worse, just like the power of the electricity drops off dramitically with length of wire . I had talked to a guy about this and he said years ago this technology was pretty rough at best. But the power companies got involved and refined how it and now it is what they now use to read meters, the numbers for your power usage goes right to the office. I would imagine they had a huge interest because cutting out meter readers probably saved millions. I am just happy it worked, kind of always suprised when something works as advertised. .

Thanks guys, I appreciate the input! I do have an older bottom firing 12" Klipsch sub with large rear port, forget the model number. It has served me well and I'm sure it will help. I'm waiting for my new preamp to arrive, a NAD C-165 BEE. Current preamp is a mostly restored Tandberg 3002 A. Nice sounding pre but, no remote. Digital is a Marantz SA8005 for CD and my Apple devices. Turntable is my trusty, dusty Pioneer PL-400 which still sings. It has needed work however. Power amp is a Parasound 2250 v2 which I have used with other horns including RF-7II's. I think it will be a good fit with the LS'. Fixed up some 16 gauge speaker wire today with spades and a touch of solder. Can't wait until tomorrow afternoon.

OK I needed to get reliable wifi out in the shop so I tried something I had watched a video on. And it worked great. It is called Powerline Ethernet and uses the powerlines in your house. It is 2 small boxes, one plugs into an outlet and has a ethernet cable that plugs into your router, this sends internet into your power lines. The second box is the same but you plug it into any outlet on the house wiring, it also has an ethernet wire to either wire directly or to another router. I have a pump shed about 20' from the shop so I dug a trench and came off the pump shed extra outlet which is connected to the house and ran a wire into the shop and installed an outlet. The shop is on it's own meter so I had to come from the house. I plugged in the box by the router and went outside and plugged in the other box and a wire to a router I bought. I pressed the WPS button on the new router and it connected to my music laptop in the shop fast and has a great wifi signal, as good as what is in the house. It worked, now I have a solid siginal out there even with the doors closed. The circuit I used is about 250' long and has 3 outlets on it not counting the one I added on the end and on the other side of the breaker box. I have the Parasound P6 and it’s phenomenal for its price. More inputs than you could ever use, phono preamp (which I have not used) DAC (have not used either) and incredible bass management if you ever want to add a subwoofer.

I was going to run networking out to an outbuilding at our last house. I've got a couple boxes that convert cat 5/6 to fiber. We had a bunch of fiber we pulled out from work. That way I wouldn't have to worry about lightning hitting the ground and frying gear.

Recently, a friend of mine posted some 78 La Scala's with refinished cabinets and re-capped crossovers. All the drivers are stock. I was hesitant due to my room size. He made me an offer I couldn't refuse and is going to deliver them so I pulled the trigger. They arrive tomorrow. My room is a converted one car garage, 22' x 11' with 9' ceiling. I stated to research old posts on La Scala's in smaller rooms and found many had success. I'm just looking for current suggestions on a starting point for placement, maybe room treatments etc. I would like to use the long wall which is where I had my other speakers. It would be a real pain to rearrange the room to use the short wall. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Second vote after owning it. If I wasn't using a DAC straight into the amp, I would still have the p6.

I lucked into a used NAD C-165 preamp and Emotiva XPA-2 Gen3 last year for pretty much a “2 for 1” deal. Having last owned a NAD C-162 feeding a couple of C-372’s amp sections, I was floored by the significant increase in sound quality. I will say without a doubt though, as @absolve2525 mentioned, if it wasn’t for the Emotiva amp’s powerful bass performance I would miss the more versatile tone/EQ controls of the older preamps. The newer preamps only give like +/- 5 db boost to the bass and treble now. And no loudness control, pfffft... I think the closest I ever get to listening to music “flat” is with the La Scala Splits, and even then I like a little more treble, and that’s WITH a pair of SMAHL lenses and DE-120 drivers. One thing is for sure though, this hobby, or passion, hasn’t gotten any cheaper. Each incremental step seems to be closer to a week’s take home pay. Thank goodness for the other hobbyists that pass their used stuff on to a good home for a fair price as they continue their journey.

FINALLY my Astell&Kern came in... Equipped with four ess9068 dac chips and a Korg Nutube... you can select between the OP amp and the tube amp... or several levels of mixed amplification.

I wouldn’t call that a “small” room. That said, I really think you need to get them on the short wall so you can sit further away. It might be a hassle, it in the end you’ll think it was worth the trouble. Shakey

That's the truth. I was using a wifi repeater on the corner of the house in the direction of the shop. Worked great until it decided not to, most of the time it was fine but some days not so much, for no apperant reason. I really did not want to run a ethernet cable out there, and paying for another service out there was not going to happen. .

Yes, been around for maybe 20 years as a product name or less. Usually it is dc cab go for distance but yes. Depending on your circuits wiring, you may well not have anything bothersome. Modern tech. Can be cool, until it isn't. @dtel

Nice! I sit 8’ away from my LSI splits which are about 8’ from each other. I guess you would call it a near field equilateral trainagle. The real game changer is the distance from the back wall. I find 2’ to be a minimum. The soundstage goes deep. And as others have noted, nothing in-between your speakers. It kills imaging. In a quiet setting an unheard of 70db is engaging. A tight sub will put the cherry on top.
