  1. Maybe, it looked like it must have been a really low speed impact. A lot of people at the far end of the street use my neighbors driveway to turn around.

  3. Yesterday, I heard on the radio about the Ukrainian tradition of the summer kitchen. Most of the older rural houses would have one. It was a small building beside or attached to the main house, so that in the hot summer weather the meals could be cooked without making the house too hot. The woman describing it talked about her fond memories as a little girl of spending time in the summer kitchen with her granny. It was a simpler time, right?

  6. I have 3 La Scala al5 for LCR and a pair of Forte IV’s for surrounds and 2 rhythmic audio 15” subs, if you can do it you really can’t beat it in my opinion. In my 40 years of upgradeitus this is my end game. The center stand has been replaced with one that the center AL5 just fits under BTW.

  12. That's because we tend to associate products with when they see the light of day. Roy was working on the design and concepts in mid 90s, it took a couple of years to get the first patent which came about in about 1999. Which was right at about the same time as Paul and Roy were working on the Jubilee bass bin, building and curving prototypes, the AES article written, etc. My understanding is that the Jubilee KHJ bass bin was pretty far along (maybe approved by Paul) by the time the first patent on the vented horn was granted. According to interviews that Roy has given, PWK saw the curves on the vented horn and liked them, but they were bringing him to CES in Jan. of 2000 (that might be '01, the photos of him sitting next to Jube with wood horn on top). Whatever the reason was, PWK said they would go with the KHJ for the Klipschorn Jubilee, and would use the vented horn for the Klipschorn Jubilee II. Sadly, Mr. Klipsch was gone just two years later. I think it was well after that you started to see the vented horn design being implemented in Klipsch Professional products. Very easy to make the assumption that it wasn't around during PWK's work on the KHJ. I thought the same thing myself until I heard the interviews and discussions that Roy has given about that process. One of these days I hope we can do an oral history with Roy on all of this. That was sort of plan back in October, but we just didn't have the people with the video and production expertise at the time. Travis

  13. I have also never heard the 11s. But, I have the 1s and the IVs and I much prefer the bass of the IVs over the 1s. Much punchier mid bass from the IVs than the 1s and the entire sound stage of the IVs is deeper and wider. My experiences are that the Forte 1s are great speakers but I would not trade the IVs for the 1s. I am lucky to have and enjoy both. I think the IVs take my system to another level over the 1s. Of course that’s just me in my space etc.

  15. I think I saw that statement somewhere, something to the effect that the new ported/horn loaded bass bin on the Jubilee doesn't have an association with PWK, is "all Roy," etc. That is actually incorrect. The history on this is quite clear. They were starting to finalize the Klipschorn Jubilee (PWK's name for it in 2001), and Roy began to show PWK the curves from his ported/horn loaded bass bin and PWK is apparently quite excited because it looked at though it was going to be an even better fit (less compromise?) PWK made the decision that they would go with the KHJ bass bin that he and Roy did together and get it to production, and then they would come out with a Klipschorn Jubilee II using the ported/horn loaded bin using Roy's patent. He wanted to launch the Klipsch Jubilee at a certain time. I think that is a common misconception because people are not aware of all of the things that went into that design, including everything that went into the AES article, which they revised for 3 or 4 years before approving for final publication.

  16. Hey, what's up with you? You start with a couple of very normal posts. Then you throw in a couple here and there with links to software. Then you have a post we typically see with first time posters who are spammers. 10 or 15 sites they always hyperlink to a term paper site. If you are for real, welcome, hope you hang around. You might want to avoid leaving a paper trail on the internet that you are willing to engage in academic fraud to have more free time. If you are a spammer, we will know soon enough and you and all of your posts will be erased.

  18. Well, I have em, they are in pristine condition too! The gentleman that was selling was interested in some Forte IVs for his pool table area. Within minutes of getting them home i ran into one unintended consequence, namely the corollary to WAF: CAF. Cat Attraction Factor. The fur covering is like a magnet and so far the only solution has been AC/DC. (Music, not electric shock) If I can't remedy this I may have to head to the Garage Sale area. 😕 WAF rating so far is not zero, but hovering around a 2 on a scale of 0 to 10. I'll have to start a new thread around these in the modifications area. I think LPad'ing the mid and tweeter are going to be necessary to bring out the bass from these. I really don't mind sacrificing a few DB if it brings them into balance. First things first though, measurements in the morning when everyone is out of the house.

  26. I had a most important task today... clean the coffee maker. The red blinky has been on for a week. Drew quite a pile of calcium out of the machine. Put a fresh charcoal filter in, too. then I dusted the floors.... with diatomacious earth. That should slow the bugs down. It's not as satisfying as watching them roll over with their legs kicking... but, it works a female landscaper.... hmmmmm

  30. Back to business , the SME is built up and sounds better than ever before . In two days I´ll install the MA 505 MK II . In the meantime I use the Micro Seiki AX 1 Armborad to place record covers there. Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention " One size fits it all " This picture shows the bronze cutting bearing which supports the arm. The following work was done on the tone arm - Arm completely disassembled and cleaned - Vertical bearing cleaned, sprayed and the bearing play precisely adjusted - Cleaned the contacts of the headshell connector and checked the ease of movement of the spring contacts. - Replaced plastic cutting bearing with bronze cutting bearing - Cleaning and polishing of the horizontal bearing seat - Rewiring of the tone arm with ultra pure copper stranded silk wire - New 24 carat gold plated RCA jacks The SME 3009 Improved S 2 sounds quieter, at the same time also more dynamic, finer and more natural. Voices are more graceful and realistic. The stage structure is clearly better. Width and depth are a bit more pronounced. So, I like the tonearm very much and in my opinion it has made a real class leap. Wonderful, I do not regret a cent !

  32. True Marvel, was not a member here until I ran into difficulties with the install however- So after I cut the slot between the 2 horn holes on the baffle, the tweeter horn had to be carefully angled in, then moved into the midrange horn hole at one end, then the mid-horn/driver was squeezed through and moved to the other end of the midrange slot, the tweeter could then be slid up and into place. Once both horns were mounted a small piece of plywood cut to fit tightly in the slot was coated with shoe goo rubber cement and pushed into place from the inside, sealing the slot between the horns tightly.

  37. It's ok @grasshopper. When I was in Phoenix I gave my phone to my youngest daughter and told her to make sure everything I was on was safe. She has a laptop but it's just used for her business she said. Then told me 90% of it was on her phone. Yea, ok so why is it now i'm scared to death to text someone on my phone? I freak using Google to look something up. Yea, she's gonna take care of me allll right... The older one that lives here set up my laptop. I'm soooo screwed... hahahaha

  41. One more pair of these amps for sale. A friend I built these for traded up to a torroidal version I built for him. He had a carpenter design the faceplate out of Curly Maple to look similar to a Pass Amp and I installed them. These are beautiful. Asking $650 and I’ll ship for free in the continental US. These are the same as the Walnut ones but don’t have the SMPS filter board.

  43. I am a 63 year old longtime music lover and sometime audiophile. I very rarely join in on conversations about any of the equipment I own or have owned because my “testing” is simply based on my own anecdotal experience, in my own idiosyncratic listening-rooms, with my own (mostly unusual) combination of components. But I now own a pair of Cornwall IV, the purchase of which required I trade-in my beloved Cornwall III. I bought the IVs without first hearing them because I also own a pair of Heresy IIIs and IVs, too, and I thought the improvement in sound between those two sets of speakers probably would also demonstrate the likely direction of differences between the two latest generations of Cornwalls. First, let me state this: the forth generation of either of those two speakers definitely sound more appealing than the already pretty good third generation. Their bass and treble are more extended and their midrange projects more than the earlier generation. The crossovers reportedly have been changed to steep-slope designs, which I really did not understand the significance of until I heard them. Basically, to my ears, there is little to no overlap now between the frequencies at the crossing over points between the tweeter and midrange, midrange and woofer. Whether or not that explains what difference in sound you will hear, I can tell you that, to my ears from my listening chair, the sound is just a good deal more clear. I hate to say this, but, within its limitations as a wide-baffle/box speaker, the speakers both, but especially the already-better-sounding Cornwalls, sound more audiophile (as I compare them to my audiophile level Harbeth HL5 Super Plus and DeVore Orangutan 93 speakers). I cannot yet say they sound more natural because neither or broken-in yet, but it is pretty obvious that they are better. I drive my Cornwalls in a large room with a Line Magnetic 845 20 watt SET, which is designed as an integrated amp but which I bypass directly to the amp because I drive the amp with a Shindo Vosne-Romanee preamplifier, fed signal from a Denafrips Terminator Plus receive streaming signal from a Bluesound Node playing mostly Tidal higher-res recordings. Until I got the Cornwall IVs, the system with which I use the DeVore speakers sounded better, though less dynamic and exciting. That system utilizes a Shindo Cortese SET with a Shindo Masseto preamp and Holo Audio Kitsune Edition DAC from my computer. The Cornwalls IIIs were more fun to listen to in the larger room but the DeVore setup clearly was more resolving. It is a closer thing now with the Cornwall IV. My experience is that when more modern iterations of Klipsch Heritage speakers sound less musical it is either because they are driven by mismatched electronics (Class AB solid state other than more expensive brands, like McIntosh, Pass Labs, Krell, something like that) or the listener is more familiar with electrostatics or narrow-baffle ultra-modern audiophile designs, neither of which recreate the genuine tone and timbre of live music, in my experience (though please do not misunderstand me: I occasionally have LOVED the sound I have heard over certain Quad, Magnepan, Focal, Golden Ear etc. speakers). They don’t soundstage or image like the speakers that do that best. Neither does most of the live music I have heard. What they do, however, is sound closer to live music with the result that I enjoy recorded music nearing to the way I do listening to live music, which often has the hairs on the back of neck standing. If that is what you like, too, I think you will thoroughly enjoy Cornwall IVs. For me, they are quite good enough to pair with Line Magnetic, Shindo and Denafrips.
