  4. English translation. You have some of the greatest loudspeakers ever made, still capable of producing excellent sound exactly the same as they did starting back in '63 or '64. If at all possible, you should let us assist you with restoring the Crossover networks and then you should set them up in some corners and play them. If you haven't heard them, you deserve a listen. Room permitting, you won't find a better-sounding system and they will give you years of enjoyment. Whoever ordered these originally was an audio aficionado and wanted the best money could buy in audio. Too often people are turned off by the shear size and weight (they go in corners so they actually take up unused, wasted space frequently), or think they are complicated to set up and play. They are not. They don't require expensive equipment to use. You probably already have all you need to start playing them to see what all the fuss in about. The speaker is still in production today, 78 years later, longer than any other speaker ever made. If you have children who enjoy music they will thank you for it. Or, if you have neighbors you don't particularly like, these are for you. As least give them a try, and if not possible, we will help you look as other options with good solid data. I think that is what grasshopper was trying to say. Travis

  7. I have Klipsch Quartet speakers aligned horizontally on a shelf in my family room (see photo). In this configuration, there are 4 screw holes where the risers used to be attached. I am concerned that the cabinet is no longer air-tight, and may be affecting the bass or otherwise. The speakers sound great; I just want to optimize. 1. Should I bother plugging the screw holes? 2. If so, what is the best way to plug? I envision having these quartets in place for a long time. So a permanent plug is okay, but you never know if there is a temporary solution should I decide I want to re-attach the risers as some point. Since the Quartets are horizontal, the plugs will be slightly visible. So I'm also looking for a aesthetically pleasing solution. Thanks in advance for the advice! IMG_8722.HEIC IMG_8722.HEIC

  8. I thought they were consecutive but just realized they’re 1 number off. I’m currently located in South Georgia (US) on the coast. They mostly have water marks on the top from drinks and rubs on the corners. Also the speaker fabric looks like it should be replaced 😬

  9. This particular set came from my grandfather, so I have been fortunate enough to hear them. And though I don’t want to part ways, it must be done. I have noted the serial numbers are consecutive 😁 I do appreciate everyone’s input so far!

  11. I'm still looking for that 50 to 60 watts/channel. I'm driving my La Scalas with 125 wpc. While certainly more than enough, I wouldn't want less than half for the trip through "Sweet Jane", "I Don't Need No Doctor" and "Layla". 😆

  14. Hi folks. Just wanted to mention here that I'm leaving Klipsch / Premium Audio Company effective tomorrow, Wednesday August 23. It's been a pleasure getting to know you folks a little over the past 10.5 years. Thank you again to the Mods for your time volunteering here. I know I haven't been around here much, but it's only because I have been way too busy with "other priorities". Anyway, I've added a couple other admins to the forums: @gansd -- who for the last few years has been my boss, and @jbabad -- who is the Web Services Administrator and Senior Director of IT at VOXX. Both are great guys and I am sure will keep things here running well in my absence. I may pop in from time to time! Be well everyone! Chad

  15. nope, never seen it live. But I'll stick with the RF7 MK2 for now! I've never had speakers other than Klipsch, my first were the Heresy's and then I've had a set of KSP400 and now since 2013 the RF7

  16. Yes, I guess putting back the screws would be the easiest. I was originally worried they wouldn't look great, but I guess it is pretty easy to spray paint them brown and they will blend well enough with the wood veneer. Thanks

  20. Hi AA7, Welcome to the forum. Klipschorns are exceptional and revealing speakers. They will let you hear greater realism in recorded sound than is possible with ordinary speakers. This is because each Klipschorn consists of three horns of different sizes enclosed in a corner cabinet, to cover the entire range of musical sound. Another way of describing a horn is to call it a "lens"--it literally magnifies the sound so you will hear more detail and more dynamic range in reproduced sound than you have heard before. Because these horns are very efficient at turning power into music, the Klipschorn can produce very realistic concert sound levels with only a few watts of power from your amplifier. They will also let you hear--in great detail--any shortcomings in your amplifier and your source material. This means you might hear mistakes in recordings you never knew existed, like items rattling in the studio, microphones being overloaded when a vocalist gets too close, smeared instrument sounds when a recording is poorly mixed, and much more. But when things are right you will have the opportunity to hear music like you are at the recording session and the musicians are playing in your room. Sound like fun? That's why I've been here for over 20 years. Every Klipschorn was a very expensive speaker at the time yours were purchased, and since 1963 was in the early days of 2-channel (stereo) high-fidelity, not many matched pairs of Klipschorns were purchased right away. I would check the serial numbers on the sticker of the lower bass bins on both cabinets and see how close the serial numbers are. Often a customer had a single Klipschorn in the late 1950's or early 1960's for listening to music in 1-channel (mono), and later when stereo became more popular, they ordered a second Klipschorn from the factory to match the cosmetics of the existing one. The serial numbers will tell the story. Have a great time here and enjoy the music! triceratops

  23. LOL! My first exposure to Klipschorns like yours was in Nashville in the later 70's. While looking at stuff I might one day afford, I heard a thunderstorm (Alan Parsons Project). It was a blue sky, severe clear day. Sneaking into the high end room, the next record up was Santa Esmerelda (disco). I noticed my bell bottoms were tickling my ankles. They were visibly moving to the bass drum!!! and yet, it was not so loud you couldn't talk. I was bit that day. In my whole house I have 2 proper corners for K-horns, ... in different rooms. 😐 You have a wonderful gift.

  24. We can help with that, your general locations, and photos of both speakers, including warts, dings, water damage, etc. would help. Location plays a factor, as well as condition. Overall, they have been going up in value. Travis

  27. thanks everyone, I'll let the offer pass me by for a while (turned out afterwards that it was also second hand) and maybe there will be a series 4 one day 🙂 again my current setup is still fine! Here in the Netherlands it is not easy to try out a set of speakers at home, for example.

  28. Hey guys, Scott is a tech who makes a living in electronics and understands capacitors better than me and probably most on this forum. My thoughts are a room problem peaking the response and has nothing to do with film caps that rarely fail in a X-over network.

  33. There will 4 in the line. One to go with khorns and la scalas. One to go with Cornwalls, fortes and heresys. And two smaller ones. All based on the hornloaded vented system. They sound a little different……

  35. When I had my old 928 Porsche I'd have to run down to Cbus to the dealer once in a while. Just to nose and see some local kid who moved down there and worked lining up the rides for repair. One day when I stopped he was laffin and said to stick around if I wanted to see something funny. So I did. Nothin to do anyway. This was like 30 years ago. In rolls an F-1 red Ferrari with the roof off and some skinny greasy sleezeball in 50's attire and a woman dressed exactly the same. It was retro all the way complete w/wrap around shades. I about died seeing them crawl out. So this kid and I walk down and watch it unfold in the service area w/some lil fat guy carryin a breifcase and wearing a black suit and tie who'd been waiting not talking to anyone. So the kid introduces him to the couple and said he was going to tune it up for them. I'm like wtf so watch. Panel's removed for him and he opens his briefcase. A puter and a few lil wrenches and screwdrivers all laid out on a new out of the package cover. Plugs the puter in, pulls out a lil screwdriver and starts tweeking this and that while the engine was running. I heard that thing smooth right out like a lion ready to pounce. Then he closed it all up. They thanked him and everyone left. 15 minutes max. I walked back upstairs and the kids telling me this. The guy that brought it down from Cleveland was only the gardner and the woman with him was the maid for some rich dude who owned the car. Whaaaa??? Then he told me it cost the guy 5k for that lil fat dude to come down from Detroit, spend the nite so he was there in the morning, tweek it then back to Detroit. The couple bringing it down was a perk from the owner. So every time they brought it down, that was they way they dressed for the ride and it had to be a perfect sunny day for a ride otherwise it was a no go. I can't begin to imagine what people thought as they saw him on the inter-state dressed like that crusin in a million dollar ride. You'd have to run easy peasy w/only a 6-8 clearance on the highway. Just crazy and had I not seen it I wouldn't have ever believed it. Wild for sure. lol My motto? If it ain't broke don't fix it and he knew it! lol I did get a deal on a couple citronella candle buckets today @ CVS. 3 left @ $1.69 each. Snagged 'em all. SCORE!

  38. I consider the Klipsch Forte' to be one of the best balanced speakers Klipsch has ever produced and owned a pair for over 12 years before going to the true Heritage line of speakers. I have owned a couple of pairs of Belle's but switched to Klipschorn's and La Scala's but feel your assessment is not fair since they were not in their original factory configuration (they are not Belle's anymore with all the changes). Sonicaps (sonicrap) are cheap and not a worthy replacement for a good quality paper in oil capacitor, also the K-77M has a different timbre' than the C120. Maybe try an unmolested pair and see if there are any differences in the overall tonal response. Also I did not see what you were using as a source. Remember your system is only as good as your weakest link. If you were listening to streamed MP3 files I can certainly understand why they would sound like crap.
