    • My initial impression of the ACP+ alone is astonishment. I haven't done any measurements of actual output power in my own setting, but the thing is rated at one watt into eight ohms, and it easily pushes the Fortes to satisfactory listening levels and beyond. More on this later.   I have a short playlist I use to test system changes: Tin Pan Alley from SRV, Take Five from the Brubeck Quartet, and Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits. For both Tin Pan Alley and Take Five, I was able to push the volume control almost to the max. In fact, I had it topped out on Tin Pan Alley to get the best experience from the dynamics from both Vaughn's guitar and the powerful rimshots from the drums, and it was still a bit anemic. I think this is where one watt just doesn't cut it. However, with the exception of those peak dynamics moments, the sound was amazing. I'm pretty sure the song was recorded in a studio, but the engineering is brilliant and I've always heard it as if it was recorded in a medium sized club. Using just the preamp, that image was more precise than I have ever heard it, and the most noticeable difference is the drum kit, which leads me to Take Five.   I would love to know what the studio setup was like for this session to see if what I hear is anything close to reality. One of my frustrations, though, has been how I hear Joe Morello's drum kit, and the cymbals in particular. No matter what components are in my signal chain, the cymbals have never had a realistically precise location in the perceived sound stage. They do with the ACP+. I'm not going to go so far as to say I could pick out the precise location of each cymbal, but the sound fit within what would be the realistic size of a kit, if that makes sense. Plus, every other instrument had the same sense of location. Again, I think more than one watt is needed to get realistic dynamics, but it ain't terrible.   Sultans of Swing is where I ran into the biggest shortcoming of this set up. This is a much "hotter" recording than the other two and it drove the ACP+ to clipping at any volume setting above about 3 o'clock. Below that, it sounded spectacular.   Today, I'm going to try a couple of different settings on my streamer to see if I can mitigate some of the differences in the incoming signal levels and listen to a wider variety of music. If I have time, I'm going to add back my amps and try them in different output modes to see what retains the most of what I like about the preamp, alone. Should be a fun day.
    • Hello Marco! Where are you located? Perhaps I can help...
    • Are you in the PNW by any chance? I think I may have just picked up your old F-IV's or at least the dealer I bought them from told me a story just like yours, said the buyer eventually came back and bought a subwoofer.
    • One can't get a shot of the bottom-shelf red eye for $24. ... bump
    • Not sure what's the problem..... Keep trying, he might reduce the price more.
    • Are these still available?  Thanks
    • State is giving me $24.00. Can I buy them for that?
    • Hoping to get folks to post some of his stories they enjoyed. I always found him to tell 'colorful' stories about his day and what was happening in Arivaca, AZ - population approx. 500.
    • No, but that I imagine that info will be available once they launch in a few days.
