  5. OK, so let's listen more and talk less. I've put up two recordings of the Chopin "Waltz in C# Minor" on my blog site. You can listen directly or download as you wish. Listen, and comment. Should be fun... Blog link is in my signature line. Dave

  6. ...but I freely admit to shedding tears when listening to great music, well performed, and well recorded. I've recently been told I am not a real audiophile as I am happy with what I hear and am not continually jonzin for something "better." Just finished listening the Sheffield 1986 "Moscow Sessions" recording of the Tchaikovsky 5th. Peter Ilich would probably have been the first to say he wasn't a Bach, Beethoven, or Brahms...after all, he characterized his best known work, the 1812, as "rather noisy." However, this recording, orchestra, and conductor had the tears rolling down my face as raw emotional power of Tchaikovsky's final movement filled the room. It's why I listen. Why do you listen? Dave

  8. Got tired of listening to the commentators constant Dribble so I sent them a complaint. If others feel similar to the way I do and let them know, Maybe we can watch the Olympics and enjoy it at the same time. The commentators need to SHUT UP and let us enjoy the competition. Their constant babbling is annoying. Self serving. And detracts from the Olympic experience. Sounds like a . GOD DAMN HEN FEST! I guess I need to contact any advertisers associated with you. 10. I have got to get some Eva Cassidy music in my collection!! I heard a beautiful song this morning on my local PBS affiliate's jazz station on HD radio. I had no idea who it was, and as it turned out, it was Eva. It was just beautiful to my ears... "Songbird" is her best album with a version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" that will thrill you to the depths of your soul. Originally issued cd but there is a quality pressing on vinyl.

  11. Hey Guys, remember the thread "3-D anyone?". https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/119204-3-d-anyone/?hl=cheap#entry1318413 Well seems I'm not the only one who didn't care for it. 3D production has come to a screeching halt! http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9240667/The_3D_TV_fad_is_already_over I guess we can get on with 4K or whatever you call the next thing. http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/3d-tv-is-dead-long-live-4k

  13. Not sure I would skip the forte. It all depends on the size of the room and placement restrictions. In the right room with good implementation fortes are tough to beat. In other cases Corns or Chorus may have a better shot at success. Get ears on some Heritage or extended Heritage if you can. They generally have prominent mids, so may not bee to your liking.

  15. If I have to select one to cover all that I listen to then yes I prefer the push pull. The SET is wonderful for some music and it softens seemingly harsh content to allow for the music to be enjoyed. As you can see its not a simple answer. Didn't mean to be unclear.

  17. I'd recommend a digital unit - not analog, meaning that you can set time delays for each tri-amp channel. This reduces your active loudspeaker processor marketplace choices by only a little. I would not recommend a miniDSP 2x4 (i.e., without the "HD") or the DDRC series if you aren't an electronics/software tinkerer. I would also recommend something other than the Behringer DCX2496 if you have a very discerning ear or you live in a latitude where it gets hot in the summer (Behringer units have a habit of eating their power supplies). Other than that, it's what your budget will allow - price generally follows performance. Used units on ebay or even craigslist locally have been pretty good bets - so I'd really recommend looking there after you get a list of models in your hand that you're interested in. Make sure that you are looking for 2-in, 6-out units. For instance, my EV Dx38s are good units but they are 2-in, 4-out units. Chris

  21. What are your listening levels. I think you could get away with a smaller sub ONLY AT LOWER VOLUMES. If you get crazy then yes a 15 or 18 will be needed. Hsu uls 15. Psa xs-15 or xs-30. Svs sb-13 ultra. Or you can build a single sub of your own. Lots of options if you do that.

  22. I saw this pair of Palladium P37s listed on Audiogon. http://app.audiogon.com/listings/full-range-klipsch-palladium-p37f-p-37f-natural-2014-01-27-speakers-61822-champaign-il They look beautiful in natural finish. If anyone is interested, I have a pair of P37 that I will sell for much less. They are overkill for surrounds so I will let them go if anyone is serious. Mint condition, Merlot, all boxes, manuals, accessories, etc.

  23. If that is your current setup in your avatar, it looks great. I have an LS based system too. Audyssey XT32 is indeed awesome. You might consider painting the walls a darker color. You get a great deal of light reflecting from the screen on white walls. A person wearing white in a black theater will glow like a light bulb. I doubt you want to go to the trouble of changing to a darker carpet, but you can put a large dark throw rug between you and the projector screen to absorb light. On a projector screen, black is only as dark as the ambient light in the room. Therefore, the white needs to have more lumens to contract against that. The lighter grey the black actually is, the brighter the projector needs to be to make white.

  24. Probably does work, you kind of get use to the sound and a break lets you realize how good it is. Ever notice on an occasional day it just doesn't sound right, it's the same really, but I would bet a persons mood contributes to the enjoyment ? Not that it sounds bad it's just not as engaging, you don't get that wow that sounds good feeling, who knows. Just glad that's on rare occasion, could also be the music is not matching your mood ? Ever just stand there trying to figure out you want to hear and nothing jumps out at you, probably time to try something unusual ? Just guesses?

  27. Great pictures, they show all of my screw ups. You have the same part I used, you're good to go. Just connect one end of the coil to tap 3 and the other end to squawker positive. There is no reversal in polarity. .17 is correct, so it adds a little less than 1/4 ohm of resistance in series with the horn. The inductance value is what you get when you calculate for a 6kHz crossover point using 15 ohms, the impedance of the driver at the crossover point. This number may actually be closer to 13 ohms, but with a first order filter, the difference is insignificant. The electrical first order combines with the acoustical 3rd order natural/mass rolloff to increase the steepness of the slope -- which is actually a form of attenuation, since the driver is receiving less energy. So, the coil dials things down a bit, and you don't have to worry about changing caps values. Speaking of cap values, the primary cap is a 3.3uF, which measured 3.22, both caps were matched to within 2%. The B2 uses a 3uF. If I can stay within less than 10% on a first order crossover, well, I'm not going to get to wound up over that. Early networks like the K1000/5000 and K500/5000 used a coil in series with the horn, which PK later removed -- apparently no longer feeling the need for them with the new horn and driver. However, I've been doing this mod for a long time, and everyone likes it quite a bit. It takes some of the bite out of the midrange without requiring the move to something like a Universal. This also leaves more money left over for some capacitors that really smooth and open things up.

  29. I did do that once. Good thing the judge was hot and she was quite lonely and I was young. Now I must remind you that I'm a blue collar dude. That means physical labor and tired arms, legs you-name-it at the end of the day. No time at work to fool around online. So sometimes days can go without a post. I'm not sure I should be talking to you anyway. Anybody who doesn't ride the Mothership probably doesn't understand why they draped James Brown in imperial purple at the end of his show. see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOcDOrQlDHg As far as P-Funk goes you are either "Under the Groove" or missing out on one of the most sonically rewarding, well recorded experiences an audiophile could hope for. So pay attention when OT tells you something. Come on Dave, why don't you "Smell my Finger"

  31. Well I got them. I'm trying to upload some pics but I'm being told I can't. They are in JPEG and are smaller the 2MB; in fact they're all smaller than 700KB. Figured out this forum doesn't like not seeing .jpg after the name. Even though they were saved in jpg format.
