  1. Well mustang guy I'm not really sure but I guess it's just a comfortable place to come put your boots up on the table, kick back and tell us what's on your mind. Several of us are retired so its a place to chew the fat and compare notes without a specific frame work. Talk about your wife, your kids, your dog, the job, your girlfriend, your 401K, what neighbor doesn't like your music, how mean your parole officer is, your solution for ISIS, what you had for breakfast, whatever you are feeling at the time. Everyone is welcome, little bickering, and worthless but free advice just for the asking, Additionally we hand out "likes" very liberally. Don't be a stranger, Cheers Gents

  2. So here it is... my Pioneer TP-900 8 Track Super Tuner, couldn't find the Jensen Tri-axels. As soon as I read the first post on this thread, I knew it was upstairs in my shop. I went hunting. Still looking for the 8 Track that is not an 8 Track with the weed in it. lol lol

  7. Why is this thread 143 pages (2,854 posts) long? I'm lazy, and I don't really want to read 142 pages to find out. The original post was: "My morning routine has me enjoying a cup or two of non GMO, environmentally friendly, green, expensive, co-op purchased, coffee while reading the latest in the cable debate now on page 19 in one thread and a "hot topic" in two others. Pursuing Cal's thread that wandered a bit and ended up in a discussion of coffee I would like to pick the brain of the serious coffee drinkers here and get some suggestions, tips, and advice. Here are the particulars. I usually do not grind my own beans. I drink two cups in the morning....that's it. Expensive to me is more than $10 a pound. I am not particularly loyal to any brand or purveyor. I have a Keurig but routinely use a Mr. Coffee. I guess among serious coffee drinkers, to use an audio comparison, I am in the boom box stage. So what would be a step up?" I thought Carl's advice was sound, and as with most threads here, they fizzle once good advice is given. Not this thread. It has taken on a life of it's own, and I want to know why???

  12. OK, so we had a couple of pizzas tonight from the pellet smoker. One was just pepperoni and the other ham and banana pepper. They turned out really nice with a beautiful brown crust. But my family didn't really care for the smoked pizza flavor. Oh well, can't pull aces every time.

  13. In the first place sir, if you think that was an attack you are mistaken. In the second I am not the one pontificating about "My Mod is great EVERYTHING else is junk." Just because you say something is so doesn't make it true. Your anecdotal evidence about critical Klipsch management proves virtually nothing, except that you claim these people exist and they've said XY and Z. Please provide names and details. Please provide any research results. Their decision to use tractrix addresses many engineering goals. None of which means the exponential horns were junk nor poorly designed. They are different to be sure. Better is a judgement call. Unless you hold exclusive rights to judgement as well. By playing nice in the sandbox I mean support your contentions, not with JBL literature or stomping your feet and name calling but with fact. Your replies are quite predictable and frankly beginning to bore the dogshit out of me. What it's beginning to sound like is that you've dumped beacou dollars into your system and now you need to justify it.And everytime someone points even the mildest criticism your way you get hissy. By the way, any and every time you introduce digital delay into a signal you've opened pandora's box in terms of imaging depth. The signal also tends to sound a bit sterile. Did the pro sound gods mention that? That's why Richard Vandersteen spent so long coming up with a way to do it passively. That's why I'd prefer to live with the Khorns as they are now rather than add digital delay to make them "measure" better. As to point 2 in your reply, the part about you not being a scientist nor an engineer, that sir is quite obvious. JWG

  14. For sale one pair of Klipsch CF-4 Series 1 in cherry. In very good shape and sound great. I have another pair of these that I am planning to keep and restore and don't have space for two pairs. Pictures below. Happy to answer any questions through a PM. I'm in the DC metro area and would prefer a local pickup, not shipping. I'm having a bit of trouble uploading photos here (too big) - please PM for images or see the CL posting I've also put up in DC: http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/mld/ele/4651614400.html Thanks! G

  15. I recently purchased a Galaxy S5 phone and I must say I am very impressed. It has a load of features but so far one of my favorites is its ability to control my LG TV, B&k Preamp and Comcast cable boxes all over the house. Its easily the most useful phone I've ever had. Add to all that the fact its waterproof and you've got yourself a winner.

  16. If you could measure the impulse response of both mains and the sub it would be easy to do. As far as it helping you have to hear it, it sure couldn't hurt it.

  17. Like this? You got it, except that you should NOT cross the DH1-a below 450 Hz., EVM woofers have lots of output at 450 in my horn, so no worries there. The peak diaphragm displacement of the woofer ist at 48 Hz., so if you want to be safe, 50-6j0 Hz. is good. since the recommended Xover to the Danleys is 60 Hz., they should match up. Also, don't forget the HF Shelving of about +12 db at 12 Khz. with a 3-3.5 Khz. "knee" under the "Parametric EQ" label. Also try about 2 milliseconds time delay to the DH1a/JBL. The dispersion of the horn is amazing at 8 Khz. so you won't feel you need a super tweeter at that point and Audyssey won't have to work as much as it did the the AA.

  18. Playing hookie from work today so :emotion-29: Tomorrow I will be hard at it though... Never liked to work weekends and due to my insistence on not working weekends, I ended up changing the culture at the local place I was working. No wonder I had a couple of friends back then. Alas, justice caught up with me and only work weekends now. Oh well!

  19. I am confused still... So you are crossing over at 500hz but your bass bin has the Hi Pass bypassed? Shouldn't there be something that shows how low the bass bin goes? You don't have to use a high pass in the minidsp. It just protects the driver. Also most avrs come with a built in high pass for each speaker. So i don't need to select 50hz for the highpass... Just bypass it, correct?

  20. Thanks for the cool information about the origin of the RSW-10d and RT subs. While wonderful for music as designed, they could benefit from more powerful amps for HT applications. Maybe even servo controlled to keep distortion down. Bill

  24. A Linkwitz-Riley filter is designed to create a -6 db dip at a desired frequency. When the high and low pass signals cross, the voltages will sum, giving you a flat "curve". The 24 dB slope will better protect the mid driver from lower frequencies (a driver killer). Klipsch crossovers are Butterworth filters, and create a -3 dB dip at the desired frequency. When combined, you will get a +3 dB bump. Try them both. That's the beauty of the active crossover...no parts change.

  31. I also remember having the soundtrack to Deliverance as one of my first few 8 tracks. Dueling Banjo's sounded great on my two speaker system..... (I did always wonder why they named that song Dueling Banjo's when there was only one banjo and one guitar)....

  32. That series had problems, obtain the service bulletin and do it. The mod adds caps in the feedback loop, and you will probably need to replace IC-412, a STK-3106.

  33. What? There's a game this weekend? Oh, that's right, I have tickets! Damn, almost forgot.... That is completely irresponsible of you!!! You need to send them to me for safe keeping. I won't forget.

  34. I actually did do most of that last night, although i didnt mess with the board. I do know that there are polyswitches in them but i dont know how to tell if they are bad or not. They have been driven pretty hard i know one of the tweeters is shot so i am going to order a diaphragm for it.

  35. Thanks for the welcome, although I did have an account in 2011 that seemed to be invalid now, posted few mostly always lurking. Thats nice in the pic, been keeping an on on that one little worse for wear here. Tell me more about this relay, where can they be sourced? If cheap i'd just do it anyway. Except for the station memory no longer worker (which I can't seemed to find a replacement cap/bat for) everything functions but sure aging. Along with the Corns I have the WF line for my home theater setup which I actually really like as well. I've have seen it something mentioned about balancing the rails on a receiver, whats that about? I've been messing with rope caulk on the Corns, have a new set of binding posts to install yet. Here's some eye candy..
