  1. So today I became a U.S. Citizen. My wife and I closed the shop for the day. We went downtown, I took my Citizenship test and got sworn in. It was a long day but well worth it. My parents immigrated from England in 1968, they drug me with em. I was 5 years old at the time. I have a vague memory of being at the U.S. embassy yelling" I don't want a visa, I don't want a visa". lol lol That was a long time ago. A lot of people think that even though I served in the U.S. Army and married a U.S. Citizen that would make me a Citizen. Not so. But that's OK cuz, I took my test and passed. I raised my right hand and pledged my allegiance to this country. Oh yea it was a good day to become an American :-)

  2. Well now it has been crazy. Went to the beach Wednesday night to see the full moon and my date stayed with me for the night. Had to hustle her off in the morning as I had a coffee date with a newbie at 10:00. That done I had dinner with the first lady at her house. The sweet thing knows how to grill and has one of those green egg grills. I like this W. Virginia lady so I cancelled Ms. Little River flight attendant who was coming to see me. W,Va lady and I will go to a neighborhood pig picking with band and I'll stay overnight with her this time so she won't have to travel. Feast or famine my friends. Almost feel like BigStewMan. Hey Mark.......next pub trip save up and fly over the fires. You can pee on them.....that should do it! Cheers Gents

  5. Watch out for those fires, hopefully they get them under control before they reach you neck of the woods. On that note, we have service pro out cleaning our basemen. Do to some flooding caused by a contractor not turning a valve off. Sounds like the cleaning process is a lot more then expected. They take everything out a separate into 2 piles. One that's salvageable, one that's not. The stuff that isn't along with the damaged material gets replaced, well is supposed to get replaced. We will see how it goes.

  9. First of all, congratulations. Oldtimer … lay off the Brits (i actually wouldn’t be upset if i was one). Pretty cool things come out of England…Queen, Pink Floyd, Yes, some very attractive women too; and there are even Raider fans there. I was told that two weeks ago, you couldn’t find things pertaining to the Miami Dolphins; but, there was Oakland Raiders stuff all over. So we’re obviously talking about a pretty smart country. I like the bands from there. But remember, they are the rebellious ones! And we all know raider gear just looks cooler than any other team, and they are dedicated followers of fashion...

  10. Hey All I am new to the forum. In the past month I have made a lot of changes. I acquired 1980 La Scalas, which replaced my heresy's. I have did the usual upgrades to the speakers. I have Crites sonic cap AA cross over rebuild and his steal stamped woofers, which both had a big improvement over the tired motor run caps and damaged original woofers. My stereo components are... -Recapped Mcintosh mc240 amp -Recapped Mcintosh MX-110z tuner pre -Marantz CD5004 cd player My La Scala came with the k77 round magnet tweeters, very closely matched in sensitivity and in very good shape. In the past 2 weeks I have tried different tweeters upgrades from two different sources. Reason, I am doing this, is because there lacks any direct review of the these two tweeters here or in Audiokarma.org. To start of, I do like the K77 round magnet tweeters, Dynamics and attack are very good! It has PWK sound. Other opinion or preferences from others, there sharp sounding, honky, percinig, stressed. That could change drastically by your other components in the system or recordings. K77 as we all know has it limitations, Run out of steam at 12k-14k, Can't take much power etc. Now the reason I was looking for a tweeter upgrade was to find a less harsh 10k-20k end. As I said before I do like the K77 but I could hear the weaknesses. For 2 weeks I looking at my tweeter options that was a internal drop in replacement. I read both of the sources sites, looking at the forums for positive reviews and negative reviews. I won't be comparing these new tweeters head to head but compare them both to the k77 tweeter. First I'll start with installation and physical quality Crites CT-125 I am going to start with the CT-125 because it is the mostly mentioned and most popular upgrade in the forum. When I got in them in the mail they looked well-built and were literally a drop in replacement, no wires to attach or odd screws or adapter or anything. Really made it easy to install. Bolt in, hook to the cross over and done! It made my speakers look original. Eliptrac HF B&C DE120 tweeter When I got the Eliptrac HF B&C DE120 tweeter in the mail. They were well packed, little more tightly and safely then the CT-125. You could see an high quality of the drivers, Heavy and very compact, sleek looking. The new designed horn looked pretty cool, well carved out of wood. These were little more involved to install, the horn had original holes and two new side holes so you could mount with new holes or use your originals. I used the the originals. But the Screws from the k77 horn were way to short! I made a 15 min trip to home depot got some longer screws and few slid on ends. I took the tweeter wire off the k77 and mounted the slide on ends on the original tweeter cable, hooked it all up. Not as much of a drop in installation as the CT-125. Figure out the wires and get longer screws. A beer went long with this installation. With the Eliptrac HF B&C DE120 tweeter the horn is flush with the cabnet has a nice finished design. Gives the speaker little bit of an updated look. I used Paul Simon, Fleetwood mac and Santana as references. Remember sound differences are compared to k77 not to each other. I am 29 have good hearing. My k77 tweeter little less sensitivity then the square k77m. Crites CT-125 Ok so it took me 15 min to install these bad boys, super easy. Warmed up my tubes, for 15 mins. Took a listen... It was totally different sound then k77. Listened to fleetwood mac, It was very smooth! That in your face klipsch sound was gone... Voices sounded mellow, instruments sounded smoother. I changed it to Santana, same result, K77 has the dynamic punch, hear the bell getting hit in the song right in front of you. With the Ct-125 it sounded feathery light. K77 was shot of vodka, Ct-125 was a sex on the beach. What I was hearing was less sensitivey, with a higher requency response. At the same time instruments sounded more distant, less dynamic. Midrange and bass became more present. Gave the speaker a whole warm fuzzy midrange bass feeling. Now for opinons, I listened to them for hours. I couldn't engage in the music anymore, Maybe as background music, lack of dynamics was very disappointing. I felt like I was listening to 1960's speaker, smooth mellow but not engaging, with higher highs just at lower volume. It wasn't a Klipsch anymore. I installed k77 in one speaker to compare in mono. Dynamic were back! feathery detail was gone, but rather have dynamics, Honestly I felt like the lower sensitivity gave it me an impression it couldn't keep up with rest of the speaker. I was happy with the bass with k77 so with the ct-125 too much of it. At first I couldn't believe how it sounded so different, I thought maybe something was wrong. Checked the wires etc.. Called the manufacture, about my impression and concern, didn’t get much help, Eliptrac HF B&C DE120 tweeter When I installed these guys I waited the 15 mins. I played Santana first. Wow it sounded like a klipsch speaker! Dynamic, had a natural balance, compared to the k77, voices were calmer. K77 everything sounded dynamic, with the Eliptrac HF B&C DE120 tweeter was just as sensitive, honestly more dynamic as in it felt like these was a lot more depth. K77 would bark at you at times but the Eliptrac HF B&C DE120 tweeter would choose when to be in your face or not based on the recording. Sound stage improved vastly over the k77 tweeters! I could hear breathing or mistakes in the musicians playing. It also had the light highs when then recorded called for it. Very good tweeter! If the k77 was a shot of strait vodka. The Eliptrac HF B&C DE120 tweeter was a fine 25 year old scotch smooth warm with a nice bite and sensce in depth flavors. Conclusion It's all about the music! Both make good products and have different view points and goals. Now the CT-125 is very well regarded tweeter! If your looking for a midrange bass rich speaker, very mellow, very far away from k77 ct125 is for you. But if your looking for dynamic klipsch sound, I like very dynamic speaker, I feel like the Eliptrac HF B&C DE120 tweeter is a drop in replacement for that. It updates the k77 from 1957. Just like how sonic caps improved the motor run caps. Updated technology. I love this tweeter! I really can’t stop listening to my stereo now. Fatigue is gone but the dynamic are all there with all the extra details in the high end. In terms of price. I paid $220 for the Eliptrac HF B&C DE120 tweeters CT-125 is $160. The B&C DE120 drivers $70-80 alone but the APT50's are $25-35 drivers. From a technical point there just more quailty in the B&C DE120 driver. Thanks Again Post some pictures soon!!

  12. This is disgusting. There is an AIG shareholder suit against the government for, wait for it…… bailing them out. We all remember what was going on. But here is the gist of the lawsuit. AIG was worth about $15 billion at the time (they were insolvent and on the verge of bankruptcy). The government contributed about $190 billion for ~90% of the company (which was worth about $13.5 billion at the time…and there were no buyers in the market) and charged 14% interest. AIG’s former chief executive, the man in charge who let his company take enormous risks and drove them into the ground, is now suing stating that they were treated unfairly. “Unfairly” because the government, using our tax dollars, paid them 1400% of what the stock was worth when they would have been bankrupt if not for the bailout. We all got majorly screwed, nobody was held accountable because they are all above the law, and now the perpetrators are suing because they did not get enough. I said in the ebola thread that I do not wish that on anyone, I have changed my mind. http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2014/10/09/a-i-g-had-no-better-offer-bernanke-testifies-in-trial/?_php=true&_type=blogs&_r=0 Maurice R. Greenberg, A.I.G.’s former chief executive, is suing the government, claiming the terms of the 2008 bailout, which started at $85 billion and grew to $185 billion, were too harsh. The suit seeks $40 billion in compensation for A.I.G.’s shareholders, and claims that the government overstepped its authority in demanding an initial 79.9 percent equity stake and combined 14 percent interest rate in return for its bailout loan in September 2008.

  14. Got bored and went to the BIL wood shop. Wanted to add a little of the old school look, back when most gear came in a wood case. Built some wood trim for the xmc and my amps. These are black walnut with gun stock oil on them. The picture makes them look lighter than they really are.

  18. the NFL just signed a massive endorsement deal with Bose, which includes exclusive product placement during certain hours of game day, etc. I'm sure a great deal is at risk if the players don't conform. Personally, I think that's a very small price to pay for suckling access on the NFL teat. Don't like it? Give up your millions and get a day job like the rest of us where you can wear crappy Beats headphones all day long.

  22. Tough post to follow. Spent my birthday yesterday looking for a motorcycle for work, and generally relaxing. She made meatloaf, real mashed potatoes, and had a peanut butter cake made before day was out. Guess I will be cleaning the kitchen some as today is not my birthday.. King for a day though. Not bad! She said she looked for the Major's coffee but did not see. OOh well, Good Day. Enjoying my time not tangled up in blues or cables. Now to think about retirement and what the process is...

  24. I've heard of a plan (that gained no traction by the way) very similar to this. It was mandatory military service for illegal aliens with citizenship after an honorable discharge. It's fallen by the wayside along with drug testing welfare recipients for eligibility purposes. Both programs failed as they involved common sense..

  25. For those wondering what "new subs" we have in the pipeline that we've yet to announce, what I can say is this: Klipsch has no current plans to release a sub that is better than the R-115SW at this time. We feel extremely confident that this is a great subwoofer, and it was even built with RF-7 systems in mind. It's that good, especially at the price point it's at. It really opens up the door for economically adding a dual-subwoofer setup that doesn't sacrifice on quality, in any regard. These are seriously bad-*** subs.

My ebay selling has been in the tank for years anyway with their fee's, so fk them. First cup down going for the second. Tarheel must be keeping busy. a good thing.

Just picked up my THX Ultra2 subs and amp from Almas yesterday and will be starting the drywall soon. I'll be in touch when it's ready for a listen.

  36. Some of us have no choice but to have at least two systems. I don't remember the last time I watched something on the HT in the family room that I actually wanted to watch. Back to the SACD question... it would have helped if the SACD version actually sounded better than my original CD. For example, I wondered why I preferred my Dire Straits CD purchased in 1985. Then I found the Dynamic Range Database thanks to someone here. http://dr.loudness-war.info/album/list?artist=dire+straits&album=brothers+in+arms Resolution doesn't mean much if you start squashing the dynamic range.

  37. Mornin gang: Looks like we have yet another fire bug in these parts, just up the road from me in Auburn, four fires started yesterday afternoon. A few homes already lost, as usual our local news sucks, will be calling in to fire command after 6am and get the skinny on these. May be going to work again, we shall see. First cup of the Major Dickinsons going down smooth, I see by the package of coffee, it's just like Blended Scotch, they tell you it's Blended but they dont tell what it's Blended with

  39. Yes they are slightly bowed, going to pull the shelves and add a 3/4 brace down the middle. They are made out of 3/4 oak plywood I guess I need to buy lighter gear!! LOL You could flip them upside down for a while and straighten them out before you brace. I've had to do that in my kitchen before.

  40. Not sure I agree with that but it's cool to agree to disagree. I'm with wvu80, it's not my preferred method of marketing...has nothing to do with being politically correct. I just don't see it being necessary in order to make a bold, edgy statement. And just for the record....I don't care for BOSE.

  42. Just a heads up for the HTPC enthusiasts.. I am watching Transformers Age of Extinction Blu Ray with an Atmos track and decoding it into True HD with an older Yamaha RX-V3900 AVR and I must say it sounds pretty damn amazing on my 1997 Klipsch 5.1 setup (yes I love quality speakers that LAST). I will have to listen to a true Atmos setup to really appreciate the difference. CHEERS!

  45. Don't forget to tip. I think that's illegal except in Vegas ? On a trip in Nevada we seen lots of pink trailer houses out in the middle of nowhere. Appeared to be business as usual. One of the pink trailers had a power line running to it. Also had a twin engine aircraft upside down between the house and the road. We figured some pilot was buzzing the place and did not see the power line. Laughed some more and speculated that the plane was left as advertizing. Anyone know a pilot that might have buzzed a ***** house or two? Just asking.
