  1. My cough-ee is much tastier after being sonically bombarded by the tube driven midrange squawker on the Chorus 2. It's a much warmer flavor, with a fuller tastestage. And yes, I do prefer the dynamic palatableness of a vinyl mug over compressed glass.

  2. Thank you so much. Excellent and accurate. The old Hammond B-3's and C-3's are slowly disappearing but guys like that understand them and are keeping a few around. There are new digitized versions from Hammond-Suzuki but they cost a fortune and are not the same as a genuine vintage tone wheel. I donate time for electronic/electrical emergency calls, and sometimes a weekend pullin new wire. This is my local baby. http://www.municipalorgans.net/?p=209

  4. Pretty substantial snow out here, but on a 1-10 scale I'd only give it a 6 or 7 by Colorado standards. 8 to 9 inches in our backyard. There are some locations in the mountains which got much more, of course. The local media never give up and have some poor gal driving around Boulder with a camera guy to show us just how 'bad' it is. My old Pathfinder is more than up to the task. All of that aside, I do think we'll stay in today and oven roast the pork roast I hoped to smoke outdoors, not so much for the snow as for the fact that it's too damn cold and my old bones don't like it!! Have a good Sunday all and stay warm.

  5. I left the light on in the hallway and don’t feel like getting up to turn it off -- does that qualify as an electrical emergency? i know you wouldn’t have a problem finding my pad as it’s in your old stomping grounds!

Just ask and you shall receive unfettered, neutral information on any audio product currently available or that has been available for the last century. Why go anywhere else? I mean, really....

For free this is quite entertaining. Cannot wait to have some time to play with their preinstalled sound effects. 1/2 pot of coffee down, going for more

  13. I served as well and it was peace time also. I don't get thanks and frankly don't want nor expect them. I have an honorable discharge. I felt like I excelled in the service and after a couple years active I started to take service seriously & spent the next 3 years trying to move up, The Army was going through some changes at the time getting more PC and it seemed it was more who you are and who you know than how good you were at your job (62E Heavy Equip Operator main, 12B combat engineer secondary) with that in mind and a wife and 2 kids I decided it was time for me to exit with 5 years in The best thanks would be for the government to honor all the promises they make when they recruit you.

  14. I actually appreciate it when someone I don't know thanks me for my service. What is the most warming is on Veterans day I get a hug from my wife as she thanks me for my service. But I also didn't 'sacrifice' as thousands of others did by losing limbs or any of the multitude of service related psychosis as I didn't serve during any war. But I saw how hard the military can especially for wives and kids. They bear a huge burden during deployments and from also being uprooted every couple of years to move to another, completely foreign, part of the world. Trust me, being stuck in traffic in your nine-to-five job and worrying about who wins Dancing with the Stars pales in comparison with what these people have to face. We shouldn't forgot them either.

  20. I spent most of the afternoon in the Home Theater comparing my current HK AVR3600 with the two Onkyo Receivers (TX-NR808 & TX-NR1008) I picked up recently. Before I began comparing, I anticipated the Onkyo TX-NR1008 and TX-NR808 to sound the best for HT (due to Audyssey) but expected the HK to sound better than the Onkyo's for music. It's been several years since I have not used a 200 watt/ch amp in my HT so I was curious how each sounded with just their internal amps. I began with the 1008, then moved to the 808 and lastly to the HK 3600. For BD, I watched the Galvatron Chase scene from Transformers, Dark of the Moon, and a few scenes from The Dark Knight Rises. For Music, I used Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds: Live at Radio City, Nora Jones & Eagles: Hell Freezes Over In testing the Onkyo's, I ran Audyssey in the 6 recommended positions and set the crossovers, gains and settings the same for both receivers. I did not hear any audible difference between the Onkyo TX-NR808 and the TX-NR1008. I guess that is to be expected since they use the same processing, same power. The main difference between the two receivers is 7.2 vs 9.2, 1 HDMI Out vs 2 HDMI Out and a few additional inputs, none of which would have effected the SQ. The Onkyo sounded fantastic for both HT and for Music. As I stated in another thread, the Onkyo has TOTALLY changed my opinion on how they sound for music. I am very pleased with how the Onkyo handles music. After testing the two Onkyo receivers, I hooked up the HK AVR3600. The one thing I noticed immediately was that the HK sounded brighter, more detailed than the Onkyo receivers did. It was crisper, sharper, whereas the Onkyo was more laid back. It reminded me of how my RF-7's sounded compared to my previous RF-83's. The 83's were just more laid back, yet still detailed. Same was true for the Onkyo. To my ears, I actually prefer the brighter, more detailed sound of the HK. This really surprised me, especially since the HK had the lowest MSRP ($899 for HK3600, $1099 for Onkyo 808, and $1399 for Onkyo 1008). With that said, I do realize that I have three LaScalas which are EXTREMELY efficient and easy to drive. The Onkyo's might have a clear advantage if driving less efficient speakers. Not sure. The HK, even though it was only 85/ch, had no problem driving all 7 speakers. I am very curious how the HK 3600 will compare to my Onkyo TX-NR5008 once it gets back from repair. I am anxious to find out if the Onkyo TX-NR5008 will sound better due to the much more powerful amp section, Audyssey XT32, THX Ultra2 Certified, Independent 1 Teroidal + 3 Transformers, and had a $2700 MSRP. You would think with a $899 vs $2699, there should be a significant audible difference.......guess we will have to wait and see.

  21. I am so tired of audio reviewers acting like lap dogs for manufacturers. I have spent many hours reading reviews before I bought audio equipment. At first I thought I was incredibly lucky that my " instincts" were so good. The reviewers seemed to always confirm my uninformed opinions as to the "best bang for the buck," "incredible tonality," "wonderful soundstage and headroom" of everything I wanted to buy. Imagine my surprise when I began to realize EVERYTHING they review has these same characteristics! There ought to be a law!!!

  22. My father served in WW II; my son served in Afghanistan. Despite a draft number of 66, I fell through a crack and was not sent to Vietnam. How do we sincerely express gratitude to those who served? I'd like to hear from vets. The article linked below shows that the answers are not universal or easy. http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/please-don%E2%80%99t-thank-me-for-my-service/ar-BBhPFEn IMO, no matter what your political feelings, or whatever your position is regarding the policies of those who have the responsibility of deciding to send US troops into harm's way, we should show the men and women who served that we are grateful. I donate to Wounded Warrior Project because I'm grateful that my son returned safe and sound. I ache for those who did not, as well for as their loved ones. Naturally, every expression of gratitude to a veteran cannot be prefaced with the foregoing, but how to avoid the shallow mechanical thank you described by Hunter Garth? PLEASE, PLEASE do not sink to policy discussions. If you don't want a better understanding of how to express sincere gratitude to those who served our country, please start your own thread.

  23. Altec VOT really maxed out in the 70's as huge halls were the norm - by the mid eighties - they were gone , too big - too monstruous - the biggest sub man ever built was the A4 - -the staff used to sit in the cab to feel the bass -it would rattle the fillings out of your teeth

  24. Been taking care of my food cravings prior to the start of my serious cutting back tomorrow. Yesterday I had pulled pork, slaw, home made chips with ranch dressing for lunch and for dinner pizza and a beer. Good but less than the imagination had conjured up. This morning blueberry pancakes and crisp bacon. Lunch out was blacken chicken sandwich and fries. The pancakes were the clear winner. So tomorrow I start the Stillman diet (meat, eggs, cheese) only. Need to lose 8 pounds to get to 180. Took the Jake-a-thon to the dog park this morning. About 25 dogs there. He is worn out and sleeping behind the bushes. 61 degrees and cloudy. Not much else going on. LF still away. Nice pics Gary and Todd. Cheers Gents

  28. Good afternoon guys. So we are getting a good snow storm today......really messed up my plans. Had to pick up my daughter from her work, I don't want her driving in this mess. I'm going to get this truck in the shop then I'm out of here. I'll let the snow melt off the truck and I will work on it tomorrow. Check in later....a good day to all. MKP :-)

  29. Took some of the leftover beans and rice and mixed them in without some eggs and pork. I read that a good balanced breakfast and a good start to the day has coffee and eggs. As for the sauce on the burrito, I am not sure but it was good

  32. I have two pr. of about the same vintage. My OPINIONS: The price is high, even if the drivers all work. Don't be concerned with the "flaw", except as a bargaining issue. If you buy them, you will probably want to have the crossovers updated. Play any genre of music you want to listen to, and if you miss thump-hard bass, add a sub. SSH

  33. That's the thing, Steven. Some people know the game. They jump in and whine and stir the pot and then, they step back and say, "Me? What'd I do? It's all your fault." Then, they claim it should be destroyed, and the heavy hands of the gods come in and destroy it so that everyone can get along. It's really pretty dumb, but that's the way it goes. "If you can't play together nice and share the toy, we'll just take the toy from you." Such might not be the policy but for the "smart" ones who come in and play little games for the purpose of causing a lock. They think they are clever by ruining your topics.

  44. Some more first impressions. i have got to listen to only a little bit of material so far. first thoughts on these tower: WOW the bass these are capable of is just astonishing. and the woofers barely move. i feel as if i remember my RF-62's moving a little more. pretty impressed so far. gonna give them a few days of tv time to break in a little bit. first thoughts on the RP-450C: this might be a good move on klipsch's part to fill the price void from what was the rc-62ii and the rc-64ii. like what i am hearing so far. although i do wish it was sealed or front ported. RS-250S: haven't done any movie listening yet. only some tv material and really only hearing from the front three so far. I do love having a bit more speaker than the RF-42ii home theater as I'm used to more plus my svs gets to shine a bit more. Absolutely love the new design on these. the baffles are so clean with new grills. my wife loves the new grills and the new surrounds much more the REF ii stuff. so being a little softer in the treble than the REF-ii stuff and being nicer looking was clearly a good move on klipschs part. more to come as i listen more
