  2. Kind of quiet here. Everyone must be busy with summer or have quit drinking coffee Bathroom demo complete at LF's place. Cabinets installed in kitchen. Still looks like a war zone. Painter to start interior prep and painting next week. Some young guys coming to prune the over grown bushes tomorrow. Getting impatient with progress but have to remember what we have done so far. Wasn't able to connect with Dave while he was here as we both were really busy Have a great Tuesday. Reminds me of minermark's taco Tuesday comments

  4. Happy Tuesday gang. Gonna be a hot rest of the week but I have to get a yard project done ....early. A work friend gave Better Half Unit a raised planter and I need to attempt to plant some stuff in it and try to keep the plants alive. She, on the other hand, gets to go to work in a nice cool environment. I think this may be retiree discrimination. Do I have a claim? Chuck ... sounds like progress on the renovation project. That's good news. A big woof from Baxter to Jake. Later folks and cheers.

  5. Good Tuesday morning. The fancy LaVazza Espresso Roast is all gone, so now it's back to Maxwell House. While not as smooth and flavorful as the LaVazza blends, the Bunn A10 makes it taste very good.

  8. The build begins tomorrow morning at 7am. We have no idea how long it will take us to complete the project. There will definitely be some challenges to overcome as Shaun doesn't remember anything that has been built for the project. There are no plans, no diagrams....hopefully this build thread will be able to provide guidance as well as problem solving skills. Our plan is to begin constructing the bottom shelf, then move upwards to the frame and then the upper portion. I will keep my DSLR handy to take some photos throughout the process and we are going to attempt to do another timelapse. I have no idea whatsoever as to how often to set the GoPro to take photos. I'm guessing maybe 30 seconds? It's not a big deal if it doesn't turn out...just thought it would be fun to see. Shaun said he's really surprised that I still trust him with this project...in which I replied, "I still trust you with my life". It's going to happen and we are both extremely excited to build this together. Can't wait for you guys to see it. I likely will not post anything until late in the evenings after he goes to bed so that we can get as much done as possible each day. Stay tuned! It's going to be awesome!

  15. Very cool project.... Lascals's were the 1st Klipsch speaker I ever owned. We got ours some 25 years ago found em in the Sunday paper. That's my daughter sitting in one them. My wife and I would find her sitting in the bass bin when we played them. My Lascala's are still one of my favorite Klipsch speakers. Looks like your project is going right along..... You need to video the look on the kids faces when you power those up. Years ago my shop helper came to my house. He was always doing goofy audio things in his car. He was unable to understand the efficiency of a speaker. I powered up the LaScala's..... his jaw just dropped and his eyes got big.... after the 1st track I asked him "so how many watts do you think that was?" He was like "that's gotta be 1000 or so" I was laughing........I told him we were hitting them with about 20 watts.... he couldn't believe it..... I said hold on.... I'm gonna put 100+ watts to em. At that time he was about 18......he was hooked...... I sold him my Cornwalls when he was about 25 with the understanding if he ever wants to sell them I must have 1st shot. To this day we are still friends...he'll be 30 this year.... has three kids and I am the god farther to one of his sons. He still loves coming over to my house and playing with all the gear. He still has keys to my shop and gets to play the shop Klipsch as well. Klipsch and music got our friendship going.....and it's still a big part of it. Enjoy your Klipsch....... enjoy the project MKP :-)

  21. Yes. Happy Father's day to all that it applies to. Slow day here. Opened up some cards and got a bottle of Blantons this morning (yay!). Most likely not open is as its national martini day and I'll just stick to those today. I then took my daughter out in her Jeep and attempted to teach her how to parallel park. We'll see if any of the lesson sunk in as her driving test is Tuesday. Mark, glad you moved on. You'll never win an argument with an idiot. What color taser do you think the Boss would like?

  25. Christmas in June. Two large boxes appeared on my front porch. It took me a moment to recognize a Parts Express shipment of parts needed to build four more single drivers using RS 1147/FE 103 drivers. My weekend will be busy.

  30. I think the Pals are very good speakers but way overpriced. They should just keep them in the lineup and correct the pricing. I think the sale price they even have now might be a little too high as a regular price.

  31. people at the pilgramidge said they saw palladiums being built and they thought there were not being discontinued. my guess would be they were assembling last of the product pieces they have and the palladium line is finished. too high of a price tag for the klipsch name.

  32. That AR must have been created by Larry Spence. His work is impeccable and after he custom built a teak plinth for my Dual 1229 my wife loves it as a center piece in our living room. Playing thru my vintage forte 1's passed down from my dad my old vinyl sounds awesome. I did the Crites mods and added an HSU subwoofer and wow

  35. I just wanted to say a huge thanks opusk2k9, jimjimbo, ZEUS121996, and my father-in-law CECAA850 here for picking up, transferring, and transporting a set of Forte II's from the Chicago area to Houston. We've got them in a 6.1 setup (Heresy II's for the front and rear, Forte II's for the fronts, and the new Forte II's for the surround sides) and they sound amazing. I'm fairly new to this community, and I hope that eventually I can meet up with ya'll to at least buy you a beer for your help.

  39. There are a few very good previous threads here I cannot seem to find that someone can search for, regarding the throat cleaning. I understood it was not rocket science, just a matter of minimizing or eliminating any partial blockage or "step" in the driver/ gasket/ horn throat joint. Not requiring of machine shop accuracy. Some K400 it seems have casting "flash" there, that was never cleaned up at original assembly. It really seems anyone with basic shop sense can do it with a pencil grinder, followed by some hand cleanup w sandpaper on a wood dowel. Lars

  44. Update on our rebuild. Made facsimile labels to preserve the serial numbers as the refinishing / painting will make the stamped numbers even more difficult (if not impossible) to see...this will be the only label on one of the cabinets, on the other three they will be sandwiched between the original labels and the plexi covers (none of our labels still show any numbers). Had good success with removing the badges. Citristrip seemed a pretty safe product to use around kids (following the precautions). After removing what looked like three layers of paint, heat was applied to soften the adhesive (a tip from a friend who rebuilds bicycles) and a tape measure "floss" was used to release. Note: acetone was used to remove residual adhesive from the back and it didn't damage the logo surface, Thanks to everyone for the ongoing advise, making the process really interesting...

  45. There are some very good reasons why it will sound better in your new room: 1) La Scalas, like Khorns, need to be several feet from your listening position in order to "coalesce" into a more-or-less single image (due mostly to time misalignment of tweeter-midrange). If you move the tweeters to the top of their cabinets and move to the back of to align with the midrange driver, you will hear much more improvement in the imaging. 2) Higher ceiling is a big, big deal. The Heritage series of midrange horns all have collapsing polars and will improve their in-room performance when there is sufficient carpet absorption on the floor and the first reflections from the ceiling bounce are further than the typical eight-feet ceilings. 3) Getting the La Scalas spread wider increases the sense of envelopment fairly dramatically, which is one of the two biggies in terms of realism of reproduction (i.e., sense of envelopment) Some of the above is discussed in Toole's excellent book. Chris For some reason I read this in Morgan Freeman's voice, and it made an even bigger impact. Thanks for the input!
