  2. Glenn, the problem your buddy has now is the same problem he had a year ago. I re-read the entire thread and the advice for your bud now is the same advice then. Chris A was pretty good with his advice early on, so was Oldtimer, and frankly Glenn so were you. I think you've got this figured out but your buddy is not listening to you. As much as he loves his B&W's they simply are not up to the demands he is putting on them. He simply can't keep throwing power at his B&W's and blowing tweeters. That's pretty much the definition of "this isn't working." I run Khorns, mis-matched MTM dome tweeter for the center, and a 12" sub. My mid-level Onkyo 717 is pushing 110 wpc and it sounds great at medium levels. When I turn it up a notch and even two notches the Khorns go from really good to freaking unbelievable, even with my mid-level AVR. It's not just that he Khorns are loud, the sound stays balanced even when pushed hard. I'm sure they have an upper limit but I've never found it. If he wants to pressurize his great room he is going to need Big Boy speakers. The laws of physics don't care about your buddy's feelings. If he wants more horsepower the best advice is to get a bigger horse.

  4. I would love tankless but haven't heard much good about the electric ones. Perhaps in a new construction a tankless starter, amplified with a tankless point of dispensing would work?

Here is the SLEW of photos for you................and the two stacked for photographic reasons... There you have it...........it will get commissioned tonight over in the RTM forum ...................Gary

  9. Another rainy, dreary day here in NorCal so I decided to brighten up my mood by taking out my baby Pioneer SX800A tube recv'r and connecting it to the 'Scalas. Spinning various Sheffield Lab LPs on the SL1700-MKII and all's good now....

  10. Morning gang 40 and wind. I see here local news drama is covering a capitol protest of some kind. One thing we can count on living within broadcast range of a state capitol, Any nut with a piece of cardboard and a felt marker can be on the daily news. Sausage gravy/biscuits is an interesting thing to wake up to, i wonder what she wants? Wind is said to be bringing in another storm. Coffee time.

  11. From a newsletter I subscribe to from the Isle of Man TT website: "The SG6 will feature the V4 Aprilia CRT motor with Norton’s own V4 engine being raced in 2018. Heavily based on the TT racer geometry wise, the V4 SS road bike is almost identical to the SG6 TT bike in terms of frame stiffness, weight distribution and chassis." 17. I have a tankless WH albeit propane powered. Don't know what the manufacturer calls out for maintenance on the Eco Smart but what ever it might be make sure it gets done. Mine leaked all over the basement floor ruining a few items(fortunately not the KHorns or Lascalas) we were storing in the utility room. When I called up the company rep he said "have you been doing the maintenance?" I said WTF you talking 'bout? He said you have to run vinegar or CLR through it once a year. I said who the F does that? He said I bet you will now! He was right, as a matter of fact that's going to be one of my indoor chores this rainy weekend.

  18. Good day Weekend loading Rv Cabinet work continues, im thinkin maybe if i did NOT conceal the camp 12Ga, this project would be moving much faster. But then again if i dont make a reasonable effort to keep weapon(s) out of public view, i deserve to be shot with my own gun. OR, i could be just like the urban cowboys of Texas, and just hang them in the Rv window(s). Note: After research and a can of the "New" Locktite Foam", i have found this Foam does NOT stick to common Kirkland brand trash bags, just like Teflon, it peels right off.

  21. Copper piping throughout with lead free solder and water soluble flux. Water hammer arrestors on all the fixtures. The only time I would use pex is if there was a chance the lines would be exposed to freezing temperatures but there's no chance here. Guys that do it for a living like it because it's fast but we've got plenty of time.

  22. Looking at your thermometer you might need consider with less numbers to the + side and more to the -. Seems you have a greater chance at going past -50 than approaching + 200! Damn, that's cold!!!

  23. WOW....that's a lot of amperage. Most older homes don't have that much power for the whole house. So, you're doing the whole plumbing job for your brother? That's quite a chore.....fine job sir.

  24. Brutal! Had a frozen pipe that didn't burst (Yay!) - water flowing again. Up to -5 this morning and it feels downright balmy! Woo Hoo! Happy Friday everyone!

  25. Looks good Carl, glad to see actually soldered joints and not a bunch of those shark bite things. I'm still not completely sold on them, but many swear by them. I've been considering a tankless on demand heater. I did save a site you recommended a while back about water filters.

  26. This is the valve manifold I had to build for the filter. It allows isolation of the filter if necessary while allowing the water to still be on in the house.

  27. This is the water heater I installed last weekend at my brothers. It's an on demand heater. The device on the floor is a whole house water filter and the heater is the box mounted on the wall.

  28. Most of the phase delay is probably from the crossover filters in the Ashly analog crossover. IIRC the drivers in the Palladium are within a couple of inches of being in line in the vertical plane. So everything else is due to the crossover filters. The period of a 4700 Hz acoustic wave is 0.2 ms (i.e., 1/4700). So that discontinuity that you're seeing in the excess GD curve at 4760 Hz is about a one wavelength time misalignment at the crossover between the midrange and tweeter drivers--leading to that big rise in the group delay at that frequency. 33. Fizik, Where did you get that information? Unfortunately you are incorrect unless the RF7 woofer is an identical match for the 1036 in the KLF20, which I very much doubt.. If you swap the woofers it will definitely change the sound. The porting may need to be changed and the crossover to accommodate the changes in efficiency, response, and impedance of the RF7 woofers. None the less, it would be a great project if you have the tools and the ear to do the crossover work from a looks perspective. BIG BIG Caveat: The klf20 woofers are very good (maybe better than the RF7) and can sing better with a little more air in the box.

  35. Hi, welcome to the forums. What happens when you plug in the mic and turn on the Onkyo? It should take you to a Calibration Menu. If it does not, is your receiver under warranty? Might can call Onkyo to see about getting a new mic or returning the unit? As mentioned, if you need to calibrate manually, the only way to do it accurately is to use a DB Meter. I use a Radioshack Analog Meter like this Some prefer the digital version like this Either will work fine.

  36. That's awesome you have the skills and time for all that, saving him some coin too. Are you using copper piping? I know I'm old school, but I still like copper. Think of the millions of homes with it. I know Pex is good too, and much faster. Copper just looks more professional.

  37. From the septic tank to the roof vents and everything in-between on waste and all the water and gas piping as well. I let him hand me stuff . He also got to do some hand digging as well as drilling holes for the vent pipes to go into the attic. Anything that needs to be joined is my job as well as lay out.

  38. I never could find an output setting on the TV, so I called Vizio and they suggested looking on the Klipsch remote for an input setting (which I could not find). I fiddled with the soundbar and found the input setting button (which I dont think was specified in the Kiplisch manual setup instructions). End of story - is that we got it to work. Sounds great. Wonderful sound bar for the money, but really, they shouldn't allow their customer support staff to be out of the office for an extended period of time. Thanks to all that replied to help me.

  40. So I have done a little more fiddling and work on the project...still liking the sound very much, Bob's crossovers are simple and work very well integrating the bottom end with the horns, The tweeter has lots of detail that the K77 could not muster

  48. OK, so I happen to have B&W 802 Diamonds along with Klipschorns in my living room. I also have B&W 805 Diamonds for the rear that I haven't put in yet due to trying to figure out how I am going to mount them. I also have a B&W center and sub. I have been running two channel only, but because of this discussion, it may move me to set one of my Belles in the center and put the B&W center on top of the Belle and run a comparison. The only reason I haven't done it yet is moving the Belles out of storage by myself. The B&W's are not party speakers! They get as loud as I want, but not earschplittenloudenboomer like the Klipschorns. They are the best direct radiator type of loudspeaker I have owned, but they will blow if pushed too hard. They are rated for 200 watts, but they are prone to blowing tweets and mids. A pair of diamond tweeters are around $1400, so they are not cheap to replace. Anyway, sounds like I need to do some experimenting and report the results.
