Merry Christmas everyone, enjoy the time with friends and family. That line sounds like a good start to a rockin song....keep it going! I think I am going to like 2018, I can feel it. I've been self employed for 24 years, but recently received a very nice offer from a very good company. At first I told the guy thanks, but I'm not sure I want to make this jump, but he has upped his offer, and now I'm seriously thinking about taking him up on the job. I actually feel blessed to receive this gift, and appreciated. Merry Christmas everyone, and have a great 2018 There's a pretty good group of people around here.3 points

Get your roast in a turbo oven by visual unless your ambient temperature is always the same. Roasted to only slightly darker than the first bunch last night, but it was 30 degrees colder on the porch than for the first batch and instead of the 5 minutes extra or so I expected the batch took about 2 hours. Still came out fine and hassle free, but I really had no idea that the ambient temp would have such an impact. Of course, visual is no problem since the roaster is glass. Actually thinking about doing the next batch inside since this method doesn't produce the smoke that open roasting in cast iron, my established method, does. Just take it outside to blow off the chaff. Will report after next roasting on the difference. Enjoying my solitary Christmas morning cup of Columbian Supremo from last nights batch while I wait for the others to stir. Cold and clear, chance of snow tonight and for the next few days. @TFR1 (Jerry) made a 4 hour round trip yesterday to visit and pick up some parts for his Cornwall rebuild project. We had a really great time, and had a chance to listen to some speakers that Jerry had not heard previously. I do believe that he will be giving considerable thought to building a pair of Super Heresy's after experiencing my inaugural pair built by @ClaudeJ1. Once again Claude, they continue to impress! Jerry is an extremely nice, reputable fellow, so even though he is new to the forum, please give him consideration should he reach out to purchase parts or solicit advice. Thank you Jerry for taking the time to visit and talk. I hope we can do it again soon. Happy Holidays. Jim2 points

Merry Christmas to all. Hey it's still early out here. Enjoying a few cups with Irish Cream Liqueur. Trying to work up the gumption to fire up the waffle iron. It was only 78 -80 degrees here yesterday not to Christmassy. But today looks a little cooler and overcast. Best wishes to all.2 points

One take on this could be if it were so easy to duplicate "tube" sound via solid state why is Bob Carver now only making tube amplifiers instead of cheaper, more reliable solid state amps that just sound exactly like tube amps? My guess is there will always be something missing in solid state that just can't be captured for good or bad. The best part of all of this is that we, the consumer, get an endless buffet of choices on both sides of the aisle while the geniuses at play try and perfect their craft.2 points

They are back together and in place for Christmas. Man, once that last coat went on and dried, then light sanding with 0000 steel wool, and a coat of Liquid Gold, they just came to life. They are all done except for bass bin grills and some minor black touch up paint. Man, they look and sound great! The pictures don't really do them justice on how the finish looks. Merry Christmas to all!2 points

Those diaphragms will just blow out and stop working if driven too hard, doubt its the crossover.1 point

In the immortal words of Arnold Schwarzenegger playing Terminator 3.0: "No Problemo." So was it the tighter/lower bass, the extra midrange definition, or the "extra tinkles" of the super tweet that won him over?1 point

chickened out - felt straight went best with Belle's lines - my builder got to this point - then gets a weathered barnwood finish and riser strip - that's 5/8" Baltic birch - -guess an 811 horn would do in a pinch for a midhorn1 point

Thank you guys...i appreciate it. Yes, it's been years that I've searched and 2 years I've talked about building these so it's finally nice to make good on my rambling. Lol.1 point

In the world of subwoofers there's not really the same matching as you'd match your other speakers. Ideally you'd have at least two capable subwoofers that can keep up with the output and loudness of your other speakers. Having two helps balance the bass within the room. It is my personal opinion that a subwoofer should be at least one size larger than the largest woofers in your front main speakers. If I had RF-7s, then, I would want 12" or 15" subwoofers. Your RF-7s are formidable speakers so they'll need some decent subwoofage. SVS makes some amazing subwoofers at excellent values. I'd look into them.1 point

Right now, I'm not actually "a business" -- pretty much just a hobbyist that builds stuff for people when they ask (which isn't very often). With that said, I did build these for profit -- for Christmas money. If this is a problem -- please just delete the thread. You can read about this build on my Facebook page. https://m.facebook.com/Klipschcrossovers/ Basically just a pair of Type AA's with some really nice parts with the midrange knocked back just a wee bit. $525.00 - ready to ship.1 point

Our goal for this project has been met. Thank you all for your generosity. We could not have made this acquisition without all of the our help. Christy1 point

I've often thought the same things as you. I would have expected the 30 to be crossed lower than the 20 made more sense but not the case according to Klipsch. The steeper crossover could actually be for power handling since those numbers are likely very rough. The 30's likely intent would be for louder usage (along with higher efficiency) that the 20's aren't typically going to see. I have dual klf-20 woofers in my hand built speakers and even in a wide open area attached to a 23x24x9 room, can crank shaking the foundation so not sure how much more you would want though the 30s can do more. I will say that if the 30's had a mid bass, they would be an extraodinary speaker as the twelves can sound a little tubby in the midbass-crossover region. Dropping the mid to 700-750 with tweaks to the crossover might resolve that. Something the 20s I have heard don't have. If you did go for a steeper slope on the mids and woofer, that might tighten up the imaging some due to lowering the driver overlap.1 point
