  2. 15 years old is mere childhood for a well built tube amp. 40 to 60 years old with a good restoration is more like it. Think Fisher, Scott, Dynaco and keep an eye on the Garage Section. If you buy right you should have no problems selling it for what you paid if you don't like it.

  3. UPDATE: Got them all set up and wow is all I can say. Best sound I have ever heard from a speaker (granted I am not an audiophile). It is amazing. The sound stage is just incredible and you FEEL it. Next step is to send the crossovers on over to Bob at some point for a rebuild. Thanks for the help everyone and I guess I am officially part of the Klipsch family now.

  4. Not much on showing "what I got" but thought some of you old school bike guys might remember these baby's - just brought out of a deep sleep - -2002 Kawi ZRX1200R fancied up a bit. She is a blast to ride. Big bore kit, Muzzy full system, advancer, pods - She will pull your arms out of their sockets if allowed -- Enjoy -

  5. Got the Jubes in their corners finally. I had to remove a pellet stove that never gets used to make this happen. @Coytee ,the futon is facing the speakers now😎

  6. I heard it was because of their European sales. Regardless, Kudos to Klipsch!

  7. I'm just not convinced that's the case. Last I heard the Hope plant is pretty much maxed out, they are doing as much as the union will allow. They crank them out as fast as they can.

  8. Used to have a '79 928. Awesome Have driven 935's and even a 962 on a S. FL track (Moroso; now called Palm Beach International Raceway). Absolute BLAST! You must be an OK guy ... Haha Fast Porsches and Klipsch speakers ... doesn't get any better than that But I admit I no longer have any Porsches as I don't live on "the edge" anymore. Bit older now so driving a Mercedes diesel SUV ... biggest thrill is checking the MPG meter

  15. A Dr buddy of mine had a 930 slant nose. 4 speed manual. It was a blast to drive but handled like you were driving a sledge hammer. When the weight shifted in the rear you better hang on and don't even think about lifting throttle in the turns.

  16. Souped up? 5th gear? I smoked my tires in my 81, 928 Auto in EVERY gear! Ya just never saw it, you know that! That was back when I was just an average breeding stallion though! Wish I still had it! 😎

  23. OK; here's my old 911 C2 turbo ... web pic but actually pretty close to mine ... had it "souped up" to 650 HP ... even in 5th gear it would spin the wheels on the highway ... jeez; got too old and it really got dangerous ... sold it

  25. Right, we’re talking 40 year old speakers here. Dual phase plug midrange is definitely an upgrade over the old K-55-V. The K-77 tweeter is a sound I got used to, but it sounds like a kazoo compared to the B&C de-120. Cleaning up the network is normal maintenance at this point.

  26. Who cares, he can ask whatever he wants and you're free purchase or not to purchase them. PM as stated above is definitely the best avenue for these type pricing inquiries.

  29. Welcome Mudcat, your father left you some very nice speakers, and will last a long time. I'm glad you're keeping them in the family, many just come here for pricing or to list them for sale.

  30. The blue bluetooth light is blinking rapidly and is unresponsive. It does not show up as a bluetooth device on my phone. Also, it will not switch between sources. I have held down the back two buttons to perform a factory reset and nothing happens at all. I've left the unit unplugged for extended periods of time as well and no luck. Please help!

  31. Here the anti siphon valve is typically set up with one big one for the whole system. It has to be 12" higher than the highest sprinkler head which are normally the ones used on bushes. Back flow preventers are normally the double valve type. Your work looks nice!

  32. Hey Dean, Interesting articles! The NYT article in particular. It is my general contention that any good amp, not over driven, will not materially change the sound of the speaker (with some exceptions allowed). I do hear some differences in amps, but always VERY tiny ones. Nothing that would make/break a speaker. Rooms do that. There was a just audible difference between Class A and Class AB on my Yamaha CA-800. I did not always hear it on all songs, but I will call it clearer, probably less harmonic distortion. The CA-800 did have less woofer control that Marantz MA-500 driven with the Yamaha's preamp. My Wave8 monoblocks, if driven gently and not allowed to come even close to clipping sounded nearly identical to my Acurus A125x5, for the first hour or so, with maybe a little less bass control. By 3 hours they were fuzzy/dirty sounding (heat?). Pretty surprising for an amp raved over online. I had Parasound amps for a while. They had a tiny touch of warmth, if you listened critically. I have never noticed a difference in sound between the B&K M200 and Acurus A250s I have used for sub amps. I have had my La Scalas in dead rooms intended to be better for HT. Perhaps that is why none of the gear came out sounding harsh. Dang! That a lot of gear run through this system! Now with my Acurus amps (I miss the easy operation of my ACT-3 with Klipsch upgrade), I just listen to music and movies. No more dissecting tracks to determine the material of drum heads or whether the violin has a good woody resonance. All of the amps I have had would do that, but I think the Acurus amps disappear and don't "do" anything. squadron, try setting the tone controls and any EQ to flat. Turn off the sub and set the Fortes to large. Fortes should not need a subwoofer. Listen in 2.0. Move the Fortes about 3 feet out of the corners, but against a wall and give that a try. Move them around some to find a good spot. Then add the sub back as LFE only (mains set to Large). Rooms can be finicky things, you may even need to add tapestries to the walls and floor to control reflections. Since you did not describe "terrible", this is a beginning suggestion. BTW, a center speaker and surrounds will not fix a terrible room.

  33. Is anyone lifting their Forte iii speakers off of the ground in order to get the high frequencies more level to the ears when in sitting position? Is there a dramatic difference and would you recommend it as standard practice? The other question I have is regarding the problem of the grille sitting flush with the cabinet on the Forte iii and people having some problem getting them off without damaging the wood with fingernails (as Ro60 has mentioned): Is there a trick to getting them off, or should I consider keeping washers on the grille as well when I receive them? During a youtube review, the reviewer also mentioned the problem and showed the damage on the corner of his cabinet. Thanks!

  35. No break in 86 but the 214 shows previous service of so many years. Some clerk screwed it up in 86 when I re-enlisted. Not the only time that person (I know who) screwed with paper work. VA: add the previous to the current DUH!

  38. When I first came to the forum I used to consistently refer to Klipschorns as "ear bleeders" - having only ever heard them with a Crown DC-300. I still rate that up there with one of the most god awful sounds I've ever heard. An amplifier can definitely make or break the sound. I think DBT is pretty much a waste. https://www.nytimes.com/1987/02/01/arts/sound-amplifiers-test-their-listeners.html http://www.enjoythemusic.com/tas/183/editorial.htm With HT receivers, even relatively nice ones -- all of the money goes into the front end (the processing section), while the amplifier sections tend to be somewhat anemic.
