  3. In all this time we have really neglected the side kick to coffee. Donots or doughnuts for you spell checkers. Not a part of my daily routine but yesterday I went to a place called Donot Inn and after my sandwich I had a sour cream donot. Yum! Surely some of you former cops can expand on this subject😄

  5. And here's the culprit of that chewed on record, with me and Dylan in the background at a cookout in the early 00s. Apollo did hundreds in damage to a good portion of my treasured LPs one day when I didn't play with him for a half hour outside before I left for work at 5:00 am. Not sure where that kid is now, used to ride on the dog's back and did that day too. Could not hold a grudge against a super hero though, he would growl at parents when they disciplined or yelled at their kids, good thing he listened!

  7. Hello Klipsch fans! New guy here, just bought my first set of Klipschorns and I'll be learning all I can by reading posts here before I start asking questions. Just wanted to check in and say howdy, been enjoying my little Marantz 2240 with a pair of KG4's for years but stepping up my game now and found a great deal on the K-horns. (1972 C models I was told, Type K.D.F.R on the tag inside) I got them for $1200 and was told one bad tweeter diaphragm, just ordered two new tweeters from Crites so I'm only in them for $1400 so far. Anyway glad to be here and looking foreword to learning all I can about these beasts. Regards,Dean

  8. Actually, the absorption across the top of the cabinet mostly absorbs midrange acoustic energy that re-radiates from the top of the cabinets, but is spilled from the midrange horn, starting at about 2 kHz, down to the woofer/midrange crossover frequency interference band. (Higher frequencies from the tweeter are typically diffracted and absorbed more effectively by themselves.) This is the famous midrange "pattern flip" or "collapsing polar" horn characteristic to spill excess acoustic energy below the point of half-wavelength vertical mouth dimension--corresponding to that stated 2kHz start-of-pattern loss in the vertical direction. PWK apparently liked to use wide-and-flat (pattern flipping) midrange horns in order to avoid having to add notch filters to his crossover networks to compensate; otherwise he would have had to use the notch filters with (better performing) controlled directivity horns. I believe that Klipsch Corp. has generally not used those type of midrange horns since a few years before PWK's passing--except for updates to PWK's own Heritage designs--in deference to his memory. This is the source of what generally gives the Heritage series of loudspeakers their bad name among novices that haven't learned to put down carpet on the floor and to use the loudspeakers in rooms with higher ceilings than 8 feet--in order to avoid the timbre-shifting acoustic energy from being re-radiated back to the listener in the ~400-2000 Hz band. 13. Your right and it seems like parts and pieces of things they like gets put into new designs. I still don't understand all the different lines, reference, RP and their still may be others, Icon or whatever it was called and I might be missing some? That's different, and an odd color, the Pal colors would have been nicer to me anyway. No copper cones just copper boobs. Leaving to go up there in the AM for a week, will be with Roy, Jim, Kevin and Craig every day so I will be on the lookout. But most of the time will be in the museum, new curtains donated by a cinema Klipsch deals with for the giant windows in the new building by the airport and hanging some 600's from the ceiling, that will be interesting, to say the least. The ceilings are about 30' tall and the KP600's are big and heavy, they have special flying hardware, a thick metal beam that weighs about 75 pounds by itself to start. If we don't get killed trying to fly them I will try to get some pictures. The 600's were donated to the museum by a forum member JC (thank You) and transported by Kevin to the museum. Kevin left his home in Lafayette Louisiana drove to Georgia picked them up and delivered them to Hope AR, all of this never cost the museum 1 cent, this is the kind of volunteers we are lucky to have working for the museum. A man lift (or whatever they are called) was rented so we don't have to work from ladders and to help with the speakers. We're going to fly two of these from the ceiling. It will be playing for pilgrims when they visit the museums, should have an 1802 working on the floor between them.

  14. Another one out of the box tonight. Synchronicity. Saw the Police at the Omni this tour! "Oh My God" has an interesting percussive beat with subtle different tones to it that this pressing and the F3s make you hear them in a better way. Could be that it's just not that often when I can blast the rig anymore, high noon on the pot just make my Klipsch sing!

  15. The late Wes Phillips of Stereophile evaluated the Palladium P-39F against the $100k+ YG Acoustics Anat Reference II Pro and came away favorably impressed with the Klipsch speaker. He gave the nod to the YG Acoustics speaker on bass, since it actually had built in subwoofers, but favored the midrange on the Klipsch speaker. Is anyone surprised, "the midrange is where we live".

  17. In regards to a comparison test in Hope a couple years ago. There were Khorns, RF7ll, P-39, and I assume Jubs, maybe more (I wasn't there) in the same room. I have no doubt that they all sounded better in most people's opinions than the P-39s, numerous people said so. But we all know that any speaker can sound better within a different environment. That day, in that room, with that amp, the P39 wasn't considered a very good sounding speaker. There are a few threads on here where people absolutely love the Palladium line. There are 3-4 forum members here that own Palladiums and Khorns, and they all claimed they liked the sound of the Palladiums better. Sound is objective. I think the Palladium was a huge risk for Klipsch, especially in the finance department. They had a lot of people around the world working on it, I think even BMW helped in the design. Who knows how well they were marketed, I'm sure any Klipsch product would benefit from a healthy marketing budget. I think they swung for the fence, and didn't quite hit the home run in terms of sales. I do know there are numerous reviews about the P-series, and I've never read a bad one. One guy even mentioned you better be prepared to spend many times the cost of Palladiums to find a speaker to outperform it, even a 100k pair of Wilson Audio speakers fell short.....in his opinion.

  21. pull the tweeter and mount it onto a piece of wood then slide the tweeter back so that you align the diaphragm of the tweeter to the diaphragm of the mid horn that will make for a significant improvement in sound quality. This will be a much more significant difference that what you would hear between a flush mounted mid horn and a back mounted mid horn.

  22. A local record store here has a pair of Tannoy Westminster’s as their house speakers. They occasionally turn them up a bit and all I can say is wow! Powerhouse speakers. Should be for 40k I guess. I wonder how they would compare to Khorns? https://www.tannoy.com/Categories/Tannoy/PRESTIGE-GR/WESTMINSTER-ROYAL-GR-OW/p/P0DER#googtrans(en|en)

  24. What driver should I use for the two 12 approach? The Eminence neo high output or LF? I won't be using passive crossovers and will have plenty of clean power to drive them, so maybe the LF would give a bit more bottom extension? I guess I need to setup a PC to run some modeling software..

  25. Hold it right there! I have to stay away from that sugary stuff. My belly has been over my 501s for too long and that's just with the normal food. And we only eat out once a month or so. It's bad since Amilie's built a shop near us, their croissants are just perfect texture and taste wise. Don't know how they can do it `cause you can't even buy real bread anymore since "they" perverted the shortening. The food is good, the spinach-leek-potato soup.... gotta try it with a sandwich if you are ever near one of these restaurants. Their itty bitty macroons.... bet they have two eggs in each one! Ever heard the phrase "melt in your mouth"? That's what the pastries and cake frosting are like there. I'm partial to the Greek pastries but the other euuw people make some good stuff!

  27. Another Mac tube setup finds Heritage,, and the sun came up today😀 As you're finding out, it really is a nice combo, and noticing the flooring brought this to mind: I find that some sort of acoustic "treatment", which could be carpet/area rug, canvas or cloth type artwork on the walls, and similar can do wonders to tone down the "harsh". All of those hard surfaces can get the upper mids really bouncing around in a place like that so a little strategically placed room art/decorations can help.

  28. Thanks guys, I'll put up some pics soon and a funny storyline about what they look like now and my plans to change the look. I'm a retired cabinetmaker turned truck driver so I have some skills but not as much time as I'd like. Happy Monday, off to work now.

  29. What you will hear will be the equivalent of focusing a projector lens. The tweeter does not have to be raised from the top of the cabinet at all. You can experiment with horizontal and vertical orientation of the tweeter. I would expect for you to prefer the vertical orientation as that is what the horn was designed for. This is not a subtle improvement it is a very dramatic improvement.

  30. I’m also new to this forum but been an avid Klipsch owner ever since I inherited a Heresy i a few years ago. I’m now using a Wil Vincent Dynaco ST70 & very happy with its performance. Prior to this amp I was using a solid state Citation 16 with an HK preamp. That too sounded good with the Heresy but my goal was to go with tubes on my dad’s speakers. Couple years ago I replaced my HK preamp with a hybrid Counterpoint 1000. The sound definitely improved. My next goal was to be able to pair this with a decent tube amp. I was fortunate to have friends let me try their tube amps - from Quicksilver, Conrad Johnson & Cary. I was also able to try a Monoprice hybrid integrated. Spent a number of hours listening to each amp. All of them were very good. Then I came across of an original Dynaco ST70 from a local stereo shop. The owner was playing it with a La Scala paired with an old Fisher preamp. Man that sounded good. I then looked around where I can get a Dynaco ST70 & came across Wil Vincent’s piece. A few calls to him with lots of questions then I pulled the trigger & ordered one. He didn’t make any promises that his amp was better than the others but he was confident I will like it. He was correct. Sorry for my lengthy post. Just want to share my experience on this wonderful piece. On a side note, one of my best friend just recently bought a 1983 Heresy that was moded with Crites’ gear. We are planning to do an A/B comparison test with my original Hersesy using my stereo equipment. Can’t wait.

  34. I notice you have some NAD gear. I recently added the new NAD C 268 class D amp to a second system and am very impressed with the Hypex technology and resulting sound quality. There is absolutely no noise or heat build-up with the amp. A high-value product. ps. When I go to the theater and dinner I wear a Rolex, when I go to the gym I wear a Timex. I don't have to be on time at the gym.

  35. That's true, there are some who will not even look at any speaker unless it's over a certain price. I heard someone say " it's for the guy who wants to impress people with the invoice". I would think it's no one who has Klipsch, even full retail the Palladium barely fits into the very bottom of that price group, and it does not come close for many buyers, to cheap, can't be any good.

  37. This could be a repeat, but had so much fun with it earlier with the proper decibels. Several of these tunes have been covered by many, and yea there's some good versions out there. Sometimes the original lets you hear what the composer of the music had in mind when they played it.

  38. My question was absolutely NOT rhetorical. Many Forum veterans are well aware of my "credentials". While I've never intended to make a living at this, I have plenty of "professional" experience, as a musician and recording. And I wouldn't just post it here on the Forum for listening. I would distribute the real thing as I have done for a few Forum friends. Or, of course you could purchase it directly from my client's website. The experimental stuff is in my personal possession and would need to be listened to in my listening room. There is more to playing recorded music than vinyl. There is so much wrong with the "phonograph" record I could write a book about it. If we had only stuck with Edison's cylinder phonograph, using today's technology we would have a truly wonderful analog sound reproducer, albeit with all of analog's drawbacks such as easily damaged (and not repairable), continuous degradation with every play, it's lousy signal to noise ratio (dynamic range), degradation over time from simply "sitting there". The list goes on and on and on. Seriously, even if you were lucky enough to get the very first vinyl pressing of a recording, between the original analog tapes, the mixing and mastered tapes and the LP production process itself, you are at BEST, 8 to 10 generations away from the "original". In the analog world every successive copy carries with it the cumulative distortions and noise from the preceding copies. Vinyl? LOL. Vinyl was always considered the "poor man's HiFi". Back in the day no self respecting "audiophile" was without a reel to reel tape deck. And what do you think you're going to get from vinyl using the 4000th pressing from the same stamper? The 50,000th? The 1,000,000th? (yes, the major record companies would produce that many copies from one stamper)

  40. At some point chasing incremental improvements become 90% of the overall cost. To go from say .0005" accuracy to .00005" can be done but your costs will climb into outer space numbers. Quite often .001" will do just fine for the purpose of the device in mind. I see many audio things sold that the buyers can't possibly benefit from except a placebo effect. I can measure differences in capacitors but past a certain point I have no doubt my hearing is not acute enough to benefit from tighter tolerances. I think capacitors do matter and so does the speaker and up to a certain point I do hear distinct differences but that last 10% is of no interest to me. I figure 90% of the way to audio Heaven puts me way ahead of most of these name dropper audiophile's and that's good enough. Remember I am talking real measurable differences here and not some marketing guy pure BS which also is quite pricey and even more not worth it. An aside on throwing money at things. One of my favorite quotes came from a guy I sold a set of KPT456's too. He was an Audiogon refugee and depressed because those clowns had convinced him if he did not have 80g to spend he would never have a satisfactory system. So I told him to come on over and I would fix that problem for him. 456's + music files on my PC + one crown xli800 and it was priceless to watch his jaw drop. Needless to say he went home with the 456's and considered them better than that 80g Audiogon stuff he had heard. His comment that I am referring to went like this. He had always been told by anointed Audiogon types that Klipsch was too life like and not capable of playing notes to their full potential "pure tonal qualities" and so he had never considered klipsch until in desperation one day he saw one of my Craigslist ads and decided to call.

  42. Yes, some Klipsch customers shop for used speakers. I bought all of mine (7) new, partly to support Klipsch. I probably should sell my Khorns and get a pair of Jubilees, but don't quite have the time and energy to do that right now -- and I would have to hear the Jubs first. If I did such a thing, I would put them behind a grille cloth wall. I don't have a profile of the "average" Klipsch customer, but I have a hard time thinking of such a person and K Mart in the same breath.
